Over the years, I've had other handymen pass on the project. I had a handyman who was able to fill the rotted areas with wood filler, sand it, and restain it. I've even had a gate company tell me that they could not save the gate; it would need to be completely replaced. Bill was able to cut out the rotted pieces of wood, replace them, and restain the whole gate (he also repainted the decorative hardware on the door as well). Moreover, he discussed the project with a buddy of his and they determined that the gate was sitting over a muddy part of landscaping which is probably what facilitated the deterioration of the wood. We found some leftover pavers in our storage shed and Bill extended the pavers so the gate would sit over pavers instead of mud. Before he embarked on the wood gate repair, Bill also installed a valance/shade over a window. He made the necessary calculations to ensure that the valance/shade would be centered on the wall and window. He also made sure that the valence was leveled. Bill is honest, meticulous and detail-oriented. If you want someone to treat your project and your home, like it's his own, I would give Bill a call.

After meeting with Adam and several other contractors, I decided to go with Patio Guy not only…read morebecause of his five-star rating, but several other factors that were important to me (and probably you as well): 1) He could deliver and install my new cover within a week vs. the other guys taking months; 2) I wasn't limited to just the AlumaWood product (which wasn't modern enough for me), and (3) his price to install with an upgraded cover (insulated) was far below his competitors constrained by higher overhead and slower delivery times. I ended up selecting a Duralum cover that his company also offers, and I'm glad I did. It's just the look I was going for. I was also impressed with Adam's business model, which is built on quality and efficiency at a very reasonable price without cutting corners or sacrificing customer service. Now for the best part: A guy named Brody, his lead installer. In addition to being a super nice guy, his work is meticulous. The back of my home isn't linear, so there are bump-outs and protrusions, making the installation more difficult and time consuming. This wasn't the slightest challenge for Brody and his team. The finished product is snuggled tightly against my stucco and professionally sealed on the roof to prevent any water dripping through when it rains. I watched him work, measuring and cutting the aluminum to match my home so the fit and finish is far greater than I imagined. As you can tell from the photos, I still have work to do (concrete coating, fence repairs, etc.) to match the beauty of my new cover.

Have worked with Kohler for just about a decade now. They have serviced our pool / hot tub, which have a variety of different complexities, including the fact that the pump, filter and other equipment are quite a bit BELOW the level of the pool. We also inherited equipment that was about 12 years old. Kohler has always helped us watch our budget while providing first class, professional, incredibly responsive and friendly service. When we had one particularly complex issue the owner himself not only came for several days (including on a weekend) to deal with it, but gave me his cell number. The staff they use to service and replace pumps, heaters, filters, etc are incredibly knowledgeable and provide a wide variety of options wherever possible. Alicia is ever helpful, kind, and friendly whenever I have questions. Our pool has remained looking great, clean and fresh for over a decade with far less spend than virtually any neighbor I know. It's a pleasure working with them. read more

The staff is always very knowledgeable and professional in the store, I often go in to have our pool water analyzed and buy chemicals, their prices for supplies and pool toys, items, etc. are very reasonable and comparable to other pool stores. Recently had Kevin Johnson (technician) come out to clean and teach me how to clean filter pump (do this 2x/year). He was a wealth of knowledge on a myriad of pool subjects ranging from amount of electricity used by typical pool pumps and ideas to mitigate this to controlling algae growth in the pool water. We just moved to the area this summer, have a house with a pool and I like to do the service myself but need to get advice and supplies on a regular basis. Have had very positive experience with all the staff at Kohler in Encinitas and would recommend them to others. read more

I stopped going to Kohler under the old ownership. I switched to Del Rancho, but after a bad experience with them and Leslie not having a replacement part that I needed, I went to Kohler. They had the part that I needed and the staff were well trained and able to help me. I recently had one of their techs, Mike come out to troubleshoot a problem that I was having with my pump leaking. Mike was very efficient and knowledgeable. He fixed the problem, and the fee including parts and labor was very reasonable. As a business owner who provides in home services, I know how difficult it can be to deliver great service at a reasonable price and Kohler gets an A+. read more

Marc stopped by when he said he would, gave me a detailed written estimated of time and materials and a projected completion date. Along with very competitive pricing, the job was extremely professional and on time. After the install, all aspects of operation and maintenance were gone over in detail. The final straw was the excessive credit card fees they charge acknowledging it's the "cost of doing business". But they inflate the charges they are actually paying. Do not recommend. Also while the pool service person is fine he definitely doesn't spend enough time on the pool. Happy to be moving on to another company.

I happened to call the day before July 4th weekend (or course!) when I realized my pool and spa heater would not turn on. Kevin, the owner, answered the phone himself (rare these days to have any live person answer the phone!) and told me he would have Lance, the equipment tech, get back to me. Despite it being probably THE busiest day of the year for these guys, Lance did indeed call me back within minutes. I let him know what model heater I had and exactly what the problem was, and Lance let me know he would have to order the part so he would not be able to fix the same day. I never in a million years expected it to be fixed that day anyway, and was completely stoked when he called me back a few days later to let me know he had the part and could swing by and install it. Lance is the consummate professional, it only took him about 10 minutes to get my heater back up and running again. I very much appreciate the immediate response time and professionalism exhibited by both Kevin and Lance, it is almost unheard of these days.
