Amazing crumb-buns and sticky buns!! This is the real reason I come to Avalon ;)

The creme doughnuts were fabulous, but very small. Not a normal sized doughnut. The cinnamon twist tasted old, not fresh. After some young girls in front of us that were sporting the bakeries T-shirt told us they come every day to get family members doughnuts and recommended the cinnamon twist. We were disappointed with that one. Their system of serving people is also very confusing and not ideal. There was a line when we got there about 15 minutes after it opened and we waited in the line. After several minutes and the line getting considerably longer behind us we noticed some people had tickets which we had not noticed in the beginning because we were so far back in their line. There was no sign telling you to take a ticket and I do not understand why we need to take a ticket if you were waiting in a line. So by the time we figured out you needed a ticket other people way behind us in line had tickets with a number in front of us. The system does not seem fair at all. Maybe there needsTo be a sign telling you that out front or a person handing out tickets as you're getting in line. Or better yet maybe just get rid of the ticket system since people are waiting nicely in line. Why not just serve the next person in line? I felt cheated out of my number. read more

went to Kohlers on fathers day 6/16/2013. I called ahead to place an order but we were not able to make it there to pay ahead of time, they only take cash or check, bummer. the next morning we got there at 5 min till 8 the line was already out the door, and we had to part 2 blocks away. I go in the wrong door and realized everyone was holding numbered tickets so I asked where they got them, and I was number one, they were serving number 70. I figured since I preordered I could just grab my bag and pay and be out the door, Not the case, I was informed by a younger employee just standing there watching the other girls work I had to wait in line when she clearly was doing nothing and continued to do so for the next 20 minutes. she didn't even offer to ring me out even when I told her I had to get back to the campground for our check out time. the line did move quickly with the 4 girls working behind the counter, in all I waited 25 minutes to pay and get out of there. the cream doughnuts are out of this world, highly recommend them I wasn't as impressed with their cinnamon rolls but hey we make some pretty fantastic ones here in pa so I might be spoiled. definitely worth the trip but order and pay in advance! read more

Once again a fabulous cake made by Kohler's Bakery! This is my 3rd graduation cake purchased here. They are the most delicious moist cakes I've ever purchased and always decorated beautifully ! Lots of wonderful compliments on how the cake looked and tasted! Thanks again Kohler's !! read more

You have to get there early before the doors even open because that is when the line starts. The amount of baked goods they go through on a day is crazy. But, they are so good coffee cakes sticky buns with walnuts and raisins are just two of my favorites. They have 7 or 8 girls working behind the counter at any given time because of how busy it gets. read more

I would love to rate this bakery 1 star to scare away the crowd. During a recent visit there were 70 customers ahead of me. This was 8 am on 4th of July. I imagine any weekend am the same scene. About the doughnuts...still warm from the oven. Creme filled, perfect, not greasy. The sticky buns are with raisins or nuts and raisins. Again perfect, not too doughy. Just the right amount of goo. I visited last summer to see what all the hype was about. The wait IS worth it. I never summered in Avalon as a child, but I am guessing the bakery looks EXACTLY the same. This is a good thing. No fancy pastries, fat-free, sugar-free, taste-free items here. Just lots of carbs, fat, calories...what could be better. Cash only, maybe checks also, not sure. I live in Cape May but whever in Avalon I stop in. Get extra for the car ride home, you know, for the closet eaters, but bring napkins to get rid of the evidence. We have gotten sweets from kohler's once a vacation ever since I was a little girl. This year, it was terrible. Twist donuts literally were dough inside, Danish were not raised and light, but instead dense and under baked. It was terribly disappointing. read more

Two words: Cream Donuts!!!! They have been my favorite since I was a teenager visiting my bestie in Avalon during delicious summer breaks. Since then I've expanded my tastes to the sticky buns (with or without nuts, depends on my mood!) and crumb buns while my kids love to dive into their fabulously tasty and adorable cupcakes. But really, you can't go wrong with any of their wonderfully fresh, sweet treats. Get there early, buy extras (because you will run out and then be terribly sad about it), and tell your friends. It's definitely worth it!!! read more

Kohler's Bakery is the best! I agree with Mickey M. If I could give it 1 star to make the crowd go away I would. I grew up spending summers at the shore and every Saturday morning is bakery day. My Dad patiently waits in the long line, but it is well worth the wait. Everything is great that we're tried... sticky buns, cookies, doughnuts, turnovers, jelly filled stars, snow flake rolls, etc. Kohler's is truly a family summer tradition that I love. read more

I go down the shore every summer with my entire family. We love it, when one or two of our morning their are spent eating donuts my Poppy picked up on his coffee run for GramGram(they are such a great couple)! I suggest you give this place a try. read more

In my humble opinion at any rate, Kohler's is the best bakery in the world! You will not find a better cream-filled donut anywhere on the planet, although Nellie's Supermarket bakery in East Berlin tries to compete a bit on that one I will say. And that's about all I have to say, except get there early people! As there are lines here for Pete's sake!!! I love you Kohler's, and thanks for still being with all of your fans in Avalon. Just wish you were in Coney Island too perhaps, but other than that, Kohler's is a superb family-grown bakery which always tried to please the Conner family, including my father who is no longer with us. In one of Dad's last years, when he could no longer arrive at Avalon in person, I sent my parents some of their favorite baked goods, among them the iced almond coffee cake (shipped out by me then from the Avalon P.O., since at that time Kohler's was not yet offering to ship their goods), and they were thrilled of course too. ;-) read more
