Nope. I had a bad vibe when I walked in and saw only two tables with customers. We did the AYCE but I felt like that was a bad decision. The vibe of the place tells me that this used to be another restaurant with a theme but they decided not to change any of the decor or furniture. The food came out and each sushi roll was packed with rice. Way too much rice, and not enough of fish and filling. One sushi had a purple colored fish. My fiancee slapped the roll out of my mouth before I could eat it. Fish isn't supposed to be purple. Well, that shade of purple . Nothing was WOW THIS IS GOOD. It was all, damn do I have to finish this? We hid the rice in the soy sauce. There was only one server at the time, but with only two tables you would assume they would check up on you often right? Nope. I had to flag a server down to get more water. She took my water... and never came back. I asked her, where's my water? Shocked, got my water seconds later. this place is the best AYCE ive been to for awhile. i try a lot of places but this one is clean, fish is fresh, rice is perfect, awesome service we got premium menu 42.99$ per person and the premium pieces are worth it. the uni is fresh with no weird flavor. the tuna toro is also buttery and melts in your mouth. the sizes of the pieces were good and the rice is sweet and not too gummy or hard. love their yorba linda roll and blue fin tuna all fresh and i would order again all the appetizers were cooked to the right temperature and crisp. the baked mussels were really good too. overall i am satisfied with everything i ordered. our server Joy was also super nice and attentive. read more

I got worried when I saw that Maki Yaki was reportedly permanently closed, so it was a huge relief to find out that they just rebranded to Kohuku Sushi. I have been placing to-go orders from here for years, and the price and quality never disappoint. When I picked up my order, I asked about the new name and they said after 20 years with the same name, it was time for a change. Everything seems the same, but their menu and new website got a very nice upgrade with colorful pictures of almost every item. Our most common to-go order is the mixed shrimp and vegetable tempura ($12), a California roll ($6.50), and a super spicy tuna roll (12 pieces, $11.50). I don't think any other place in the area beats these prices. I don't think they raised prices either which I'm sure a lot of places would do after a rebrand. I'm very happy that my favorite sushi place is still here, just with a new name. read more

What they advertised and what they actually serve. I love a simple sushi roll but never was I ever serve this type of quality of tuna ANYWHERE!!!. I decided to order a tuna roll and miso soup. This was take out so of course I didn't see it until I I got back to work. When I opened the container This is what I see? It was sooo unappetizing. Makes you question if it's worth risking your health lol. It looks grey and brown. I was like okay maybe it's okay to eat? Then I smelled it. so fishy ! the texture on this when you pull it a part, it was slimy like okra texture. Being on my lunch break, I don't have time to order else where. So I decided to go back and get a refund. I didn't make a fuss. The man who is probably the owner, I don't know but he sure is acting like it. I said can I get a refund. He proceeds to "try" to give me a refund, he looks at another worker and then he said me, you think it's not fresh? I told him no sorry it doesn't. He said okay and you can see him get so frustrated. He proceeds to say again "okay, so you think it's not fresh. Whatever, Whatever!!!. " How many times do you have to ask me! Obviously it doesn't look fresh too me. THIS IS A SIMPLE TUNA ROLL!!! he's giving me attitude? All for a refund? I didn't even take a bite. I'm not happy with the quality! Smell, look, and texture! I have no time for this at this point. I told him it's slimy and looks grey/brown. Still Huffing and puffing like a child. it's that big of an issue, don't refund my money. keep your food. I told him it's okay don't give me a refund. Same owner as the previous incarnation that was Maki Yaki. The place has been nicely renovated and looks great. I guess for the AYCE there are still up to 3 rounds of ordering. The selection of rolls is great. I especially liked the Rainbow Roll and the Tirba Linda Roll. I did not have the resolve to finish a few selections that were listed as "spicy ", so left them for last. I spent $160 on a meal for two and was given a plastic spoon for my desert. While ordering I was treated like an infant, explanations of how sashimi is different from sushi and ultimately the quality of the fish was good but not the quality I would expect based on the prices. Upsetting experience. I went in to order 2 rolls of sushi to go. I asked the guy at the register if he was familiar with ingredients since my husband has a gluten allergy and needed to make sure nothing I ordered had gluten (soy sauce, and some types of imitation crab meat). He told me I can substitute the crab meat with spicy tuna but will have an up charge (even though they are removing one item for another), however, what he was clueless about is that spicy tuna also has some soy sauce which I did not know will after my husband ate it! Additionally, I asked if he can check with the sushi chef if their imitation crab meat had wheat in it (literally an easy thing to do by looking at the package ingredients) and he said he didn't know! Very disappointing experience and now I have a husband who's been glutenned because the employee was clueless that spicy tuna has soy sauce in it! People have allergies, your employees should be knowledgeable regarding ingredients. It's really not that difficult to know which of your items have gluten in them. We go to another sushi restaurant and all their employees are trained and educated on ingredients and allergies. It was great, I love the Rainbow Rolls. The fish was fresh and the shrimp was perfect. The place is a great lunch place.

Update: Not sure what changed, but in a month's time, the cut roll quality took a nose-dive. Chewy nori, cut rolls that are falling apart, avocado in the California rolls was virtually non-existent, too much mayo in the Krab, and paper-thin salmon and tuna on top the Washington & Ninja rolls. My miso soup had 2 cubes of tofu, smaller than sugar cubes, hanging out alone in the broth. I would never have imagined it last month, but Ralph's grocery store surpasses these rolls in every way read more

Probably the best AYCE sushi place in the area in terms of food quality to price ratio. They have à la carte menu as well. Fresh fish. Great friendly service. It's a mom and pop place and I love to support these type of small businesses. Great ambience as well. 100% recommend! read more

My family visited this restaurant while in town visiting a friend. We ordered a sashimi plate and some tuna hand rolls. The fish was incredibly fresh and had perfect chewy texture. I wasn't a big fan of sashimi before, but that night completely converted me. My sons also loved the hand rolls and soup udon. The seasoned fish in the rolls paired perfectly with rice and veggies. Kohuku Sushi (which used to be Maki Yaki, likely under new ownership now) The decor has a good, Japanese feel, and the staff was attentive and welcoming throughout our meal. We specifically went for the All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) menu rather than the regular a la carte options. ​While the service was good and the raw fish itself was actually OK, their AYCE experience left a lot to be desired, especially considering the premium price tag. ​I think its expensive, for the limitations and "gotchas" that come with it. The biggest kicker is the rolls. They are absolutely massive, but not in a good way. They load them up heavily with imitation crabmeat, which everyone knows is just cheap filler food. It felt like a deliberate tactic to fill you up quickly so we wouldn't order anything else as thats how we felt. I get that we could have just skipped the rolls, but the whole benefit of paying for an all-you-can-eat experience is having the freedom to try anything that looks appealing. ​Ultimately, it just wasn't worth the $100+ bill for the two of us. I moved to the area about 4 years ago for school so I've been coming to this location since the Maki Yaki days. Everything is pretty much the same which isn't a bad thing. The food is still top quality and the service is great. The AYCE went up a few dollars but that's because they offer more premium sushi which I feel is a fair trade. from maki yaki to now kohuku sushi, this place has been my favorite go-to sushi spot for over 3-4 years. i've been bringing people here whenever i get the chance & nobody has told me they disliked it once and always asks why when we're coming back :) everything is so fresh and delicious. haven't ever gotten sick from this place either! (a record if you ask me) all the staff are so lovely and accommodating, i've not once had a bad experience here. the overall vibe is also so cozy! wonderful lighting & music playing in the background that's not super loud. if you're here to eat alone or with friends, both their ayce & regular menus have a wide variety of things to choose from. there's gonna be something for everyone! 11/10, would recommend for anyone looking for a new go-to sushi spot read more

I get the Crunch roll and the California roll and both are always excellent. The prices are very good as well.
