It's been over 3 years since I last ate here (where does time go) and finally got around to re-ordering that pork belly bowl MINUS the bean sprouts this time! They *still* haven't added in a brief description of what's in the bowl which kinda sucks, but whatevs. Props to remaining consistent after all these years! The pork belly bowl was pretty much how I remembered it. Honestly for the price point and the portion, it's really not a bad deal. I wanna say it was no more than $13? However, it was incredibly dead during peak dinnertime and I'm not referring to business. Flavio was our server he was training but super helpful and friendly. Had such a delicious lunch with my friend. The spicy tuna crunchy rice was delicious and my friend ordered the tempura california roll. He also gave us vanilla ice cream at the end that was so nice of him. Wasn't very busy when we got here but the food was delicious. Would def come here again to try more, shocked I have never been here before. We were in town and were in the mood for Japanese food. I came across San Sushi on Yelp, and immediately went for them after seeing their menu was quite expansive. We ordered the Jalapeno Albacore appetizer, Mixed Tempura appetizer, the Basic & Beautiful roll, a side of fried rice, and a kids udon. It doesn't sound like a whole lot of food, but it was filling. The kids udon portion was, to our surprise, pretty sizable, and we loved that we were able to share our plates and make a meal out of everything. The service was top notch; our server got our order out in a timely manner, and everything was delicious. The restaurant itself was clean, AC on full blast during the hot summer day we visited, and there were TVs and light jazz playing in the background. Really good sushi, but odd hours of operation. They are closed on Tuesdays, and then close between lunch and dinner on the weekdays, but then are only open for dinner on Saturday, and are open for both lunch and dinner on Sundays. Just pay attention to their hours before heading over. There's limited street parking, with some 15 minute spots, and a senior citizen only spot too. Some pieces were crunchy, but most were not fried enough and limp. Something that tempura should not be. $9 CALAMARI LEGS: fried squid, these were fried to crunchy perfection and served with a spicy Mayo aioli. $13 ALBACORE CARPACCIO: I've never seen albacore sliced so thinly in my life at any restaurant. It was my favorite dish that we ordered, but I'm still shocked about how small all the portions were. SERVICE: Was quick & attentive. Not many people in the restaurant when I came, but the staff was wonderful & did their job perfectly. OVERALL: I didn't think it was BAD, but I also think it's at the bottom of my list for Japanese/Sushi restaurants in this area. I came here for this first time because I was passing by it and was short on time. The portions are wayyyy too small. I personally will not be back. They did nothing wrong, I just didn't enjoy it. The food was pretty tasty and the prices were fair so I would give them a solid 4 stars. We had the to tonkatsu ramen, salmon bento box and spider roll. The ramen had flavorful broth (which is always a plus) and good consistency noodle. The Chasiu was yummy and good ratio of lean and fatty meat. The spider roll was good but I'm also used to larger portions at other places for spider rolls. Lastly the salmon in the bento had good texture but I feel like it was a little lacking in flavor. When you walk up the windows are a little dark and you see chairs upside down on a table in the corner so you may think its closed but try the door because they're probably open. Servers are friendly and attentive. Quiet for lunch on the weekend. Unless you get that random guy eating alone and feeling insecure so blasting his conversation on speaker phone at the table next to you. Food comes out pretty quickly. Calamari legs are good but don't expect too much. Dumplings are cute not very large but a bit greasy. My husband likes the spicy miso ramen and phillie roll combo. Rainbow roll and salmon avocado roll are pretty good. I personally didn't like the poke bowl. They should ask what kind of sauce we want or put it on the side. It wasn't very good so I was like wiping off the fish on the salad. Didn't really work though. Kids meals are really good. Chicken teriyaki was fresh and a good amount. We were looking for a sushi restaurant that was actually open for lunch on a Sunday (not many are) and found San. It was a nice spot for a relatively inexpensive but nice quality "American" sushi meal. Most of the rolls were california style, placing heavy emphasis on imitation crab. But 5 of us eating for $130 at a sushi restaurant is great! At a place like Roku or Nobu it easily would have been $400-500 for all of us. There was a focus on rolls, ramen, and appetizers instead of nigiri, but it didn't turn out to be a bad thing. The spicy tuna crispy rice was the standout of the meal and the garlic edamame was nice and fresh. The rest of our rolls were all good but the tonkatsu ramen was lackluster. Stick to the sushi here, go to a ramen place if you want a good bowl of ramen. read more
