Went with lifelong friends. First time for everyone. Decor was up to par for the location, which gave a tropical ambiance. The margaritas were amazing with plenty of variations to choose from. But the best part was the food. The short rib tacos were out of this world. The chicken and chorizo enchilada was spectacular. Don't know what sauces were in them, but the flavor was not only authentic, it left one's mouth craving for more. It had been a while since we had been to Coconut Grove and we wanted to try somewhere new. This was the perfect spot! This place is beautiful - we sat outdoors and it was so aesthetically pleasing. High ceilings, plenty of fans for ventilation, a lot of greenery and neutral colors. The service was solid. Food was good and priced fairly especially compared to others in the area. For my entree I ordered los tacos de costilla cargada (braised short rib tacos). All taco orders come with three. Their tortillas are made in house and are so delicious. They were pretty generous with the protein amount and they tasted very good (4/5) $20 I also tried their queso fundido which was good and very indulgent, think of the cheesiest pizza you ever had. Worth a try. I tried their mole negro (chicken mole) as well. It was pretty good but seemed a bit skimpy on the protein and the chicken was a bit dry. For my drink I went with the mango petacon mezcal which was very refreshing. I asked if they could make it spicy, and I enjoyed the subtle kick. For dessert went with churros which were good and came with a bit of coffee and ice cream to mix with. When I got the bill there was a discrepancy, I was charged full price for the drinks but the server offered happy hour prices. Thankfully the situation was quickly rectified. All in all this is a great option to try while in this area. A lot of similar spots in this area are overpriced. I like that koko offers delicious food in a beautiful area at a reasonable price. We made the rounds through Coconut Grove and one of our favorite Mexican spots so far ends up being KOKO. Good vibe; I'd call it modern fusion Mexican. Right when you walk in, you notice the open kitchen where they handcraft tortillas from scratch and toast chips over fire . We kicked things off with some mezcal cocktails (EL QUE ES PERICO & TULUM VIBE) that were really well done--smooth, thoughtful, balanced. Good start. Then we dove into ceviche, which tasted super fresh and hit the spot. We also had the TETELAS CINCO DE MAYO which was also unique and tasty. They made fresh tortillas in-house, and we had carnitas tacos that were great--just right. There was also grilled octopus that was really solid, too. Getting in was a bit of a wait since the place was packed--and we didn't have a reservation--but honestly, that just adds to the appeal. When the vibe's right and the food's good, sometimes the wait's part of the experience. Overall, it was a great time. My wife and I researched Koko before planning to have lunch there and it was excellent! Norman was our waiter and he is just the most kind, super professional, friendly and engaging person to have the pleasure of meeting. While I was sharing a Quesadilla Huitloche and a Macheteada (Mexican Salad) with my wife-delicious and well presented by the way- we talked about Mexican cuisine and the trip my wife and I took to Mexico. Next, my wife had the Fish Tacos and I had the vegetarian tacos with a rich, sweet black mole sauce. Both items were a hit. Just a warning you may want to check on timing. We asked our server for several recommendations. She helped us choose the perfect bottle of wine and the meal we were looking for. The short rib dish was a standout--perfectly braised, tender, and packed with deep, rich flavors from smoking for 12hrs the bone-in cut of beef. . It was beautifully plated and paired with sides that elevated the dish even further and served with delicious blue corn tortillas. The Cinco de Mayo special was creative and full of vibrant, bold flavors, showcasing the chef's talent for combining traditional and modern culinary elements. The server told us the backstory of how this dish came about (no waste of a spoiled byproduct) which had us questioning our choice, but it was by far the best traditional Mexican dish I've had in the states and abroad in Mexico. We tried the SHORT RIBS and shared it, it's large enough to be shared by 3 people. We tried the fish tacos and they were great too. We loved their different hot sauces. I tried the old fashioned and the ambiciosa margarita and both were great. We were treated to some awesome flavored shots by Brandy and they were great. The decor is plush and there is lots of seating, we went early afternoon, but I imagine it gets packed during peak hours. Our Order: Appetizer: (1) Tzirita de Michoacan Entree: (1) Tacos de Verduras con Mole Negro and (2) Tacos de Hongos con Rajas Poblanas y Epazote The Tzirita de Michoacan was their spin on an Italian Burrata dish which was fantastic. Great table appetizer! Glad it came with unlimited tortilla chips too. Both of the tacos tasted the same to us, so really a personal preference on vegetable selection. The mole was not a traditional mexican mole with deep chocolate flavors, but rather more subtle flavors, which made it more palatable for us. The tacos were fresh and felt very lite. PS: You absolutely need a reservation on weekend, the walk-in wait for 2+ hours. However, bar seating is open to anyone. read more

TLDR: Great vibes, great food, great service. I came with my wife for her birthday dinner. It seems that dinner reservations are recommended, at least on a Saturday. We were lucky to get a table though. The atmosphere is upscale casual. The design is pretty remarkable as they blend the outdoor and indoor seating areas seamlessly with the bar in the center. The decor is modern but with Mexican themes. The margaritas were recommended by our server so we tried a passion fruit and mango margarita. Both were delicious with great flavor and presentation. For an appetizer we had the queso fundido chorizo. The queso and chorizo complimented each other perfectly. It comes with some corn tortillas to enjoy with. Additionally there is a plate for the table of salt and salsa you can use to augment your meal. For entrees I had the mole verde and my wife had the suizas enchiladas. The mole verde had been one the best meals I've had since moving to Miami. The flavor of the mole was fresh and exceptional. It paired well with the Chilean sea bass which had a crispy sear and was perfectly flaky. It comes with corn tortillas and a house rice which both act as starches to bring the dish together. Additionally I had several bites of my wife's enchiladas which were exceptionally cheesy. I think the experience at Koko was enjoyable with great service. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. I'm only knocking off a star because the food was not as authentically Mexican as I would have expected; ie: I was served peas, carrots and corn in my side of white rice and never have I ever. On my next go round I would pass on the Mexican street corn-not exactly the flavor profile we were looking for and possibly skip the mole negro. No one does mole like an actual restaurant in Mexico, so no harsh judgement, but I would definitely order the ceviche again, it was a 10/10. My husband and daughter spilt a skirt steak- not pictured, but it was nothing to go into too much detail about. We sprinkled some salt and slapped some of their salsas on it from their, I'm guessing, in house salsa and ate away. Oh and "yes!" to their Nutella filled churros. We spent most of the wait at the bar, where bartender, Michel, made us all yummy drinks while we waited. He was fantastic, and made the long wait for a large party a bit better. Also, they did give us all free tequila shots because we waited so long. Besides the long wait, the drinks, tacos, and vibes were incredible. I ordered the "el que es perico," spicy, with no simple syrup which was delicious. If you like cilantro and passionfruit, you'll love this drink. I also got the tacos de hongos, which are amazing, and come with guac and a side of black beans. The server was very attentive, and helpful to my dietary needs, as I am gluten free. Second, I was really surprised that a restaurant in Miami doesn't have a high chair. It's clearly not the most kid-friendly spot, which is a shame because the food is great most of the time. Came to Koko for a birthday dinner. The atmosphere was amazing, it very much feels like a rainforest. The short rib tacos were absolutely delicious, as was the guacamole and cheese dip. Seating here can be slightly uncomfortable especially if you are tall or have to stay seated for a while. The restaurant was full possibly because of Miami Spice but me and my guest had a very nice time and you can't beat their set menu deals. They do offer valet parking or you can try street or nearby garage. I recommend a reservation at all times. Nice spicy salsa with vibrant flavours made this one a treat. Vegetarians are more than welcome as they have a section just for you. Nice bar area inside and out and such a relaxed yet professional vibe. Just discovered Koko here in coconut grove and I'm so mind blown to also discover that they're related to Bakan in Wynwood! Wow , what a pleasant surprise. I absolutely love and adore Bakan, so when I did my research on Koko I was immediately convinced and knew that it was it was gonna be fire. The ambiance here is beautiful. Phenomenal inside and out door seating. The vibes were impeccable. The service was superb. Our food was beyond delicious. Our drinks were made perfect. I can never stress on how good the micheladas ojo rojo are. My go to always. I have to admit , I was a little disappointed that there wasn't any ceviche when at the time we ordered its so good that they ran out by 9pm. Next time for sure , so I went with the agua chile de camarón con mango fresco which was always a great pick in my book. The tacos are all fire, guac also fire. I mean I've never tried anything from Bakan that made me say nahhhh this ain't it. Literally every chose is a flavorful experience waiting for you to try. I highly recommend Kokos & Bakan in Wynwood as well. You guys are great! Keep delivering top notch service and a top notch cuisine. I recently came to Koko with a group and our experience was absolutely fantastic! The service was incredible - Matthew was personable, funny and dealt with our crazy group so well. The group started with the guacamole and the queso fundido - arguably the best queso fundido I've ever had. It was delicious, rich and so so good - served with fresh, warm tortillas. Personally, I had the watermelon marg (with tequila) and split the tuna ceviche and the bakan ceviche with someone else. Both were absolutely delicious, but the sauce on the tuna was so unique, fresh and flavorful. Everything tried different things and there was not a single complaint - plus they were able to easily accomodate a vegan and someone who is gluten-free in our party. The food was great, for our main we ordered the ribeye for two which was delicious. it came with fried beans, guacamole, and a bunch of toppings to make your own tacos. The Ceviche was great, guacamole was perfect. I think they're also very hyped up for their in-house made tortillas which I admit were really good! For fun we ordered the toasted grasshoppers which i did not eat but was told they were okay haha. I did come another time for lunch and their dorados de pollo were great (basically flautas). I visited Koko on Halloween night. I was staying in the Grove and we wanted to have dinner and drinks before going out. As we were walking up I was instantly impressed by the open bar atmosphere. I loved that you could either do indoor or outdoor seating. The decorations were mordern and sophisticated but not so fancy that you feel out of place. We opted for sitting at the bar and it was the best decision we made all night. We were greeted by Marquees and he really made our night. I ended up ordering the figure it out and my friend ordred the tulum vibe. I liked the tulum vibe better because I left like the ginger overpowered all the other flavors of the drink. For food we went with the tacos de costilla cargada as well as the aguachile guero. The tacos were amazing. I would come back for those for sure. The portion was perfect for one person but since we were sharing we got the aguachiles. The flavor was amazing and the portion I felt was huge for an aguachile.
