I've been coming to this shop for years but now it's under new ownership and the way the new manager/owner runs this place is despicable. She insists on making an appointment before you come in. When you come in they tell you that they're overbooked and expect you to wait an hour to get serviced. I did have time to look around and the place looks filthy and the guy who does pedicure also does manicure and doesn't even wash his hands or wear gloves. Bottom line, not clean, it is a health risk and running like a sweatshop where your appointments won't be honored. Fortunately, there are plenty of options nearby. Stay away! read more

$20 for a gel mani! That is an insanely good price since I usually get them for $30-35 everywhere else!! I came here for a gel mani and spa pedi and I couldn't believe the total: $40!! The pedi was $20 since I did white tips (extra $5). The selection of gel and nail polish is outstanding! The only setback to this place is that you have to wait, it's always busy!! I also have noticed that they have a lot of regulars (which is a good thing)! My pedi smudged the same day that I got it done-but I was able to come in the following day and they redid the 2 nails that smudged for free!! They are fairly big on customer service since they seemed to always have customers waiting. They also "free hand" their white tips, pretty impressive. Most places brush on the white nail polish and just use acetone to shape the smile lines. They also take their time on you, so you don't feel so rushed like at other nail salons. I've been trying to find a nail salon on the island for a while now. After a not-so-good experience at this salon I used to go to, I began my search for a new one. I saw the good reviews that KoKo had received and decided to check them out. It's a small place, but pretty nice inside and I was sat down to start my manicure about 2 minutes after I walked in and chose a color. Paul was the one who took care of my nails and did a pretty good job. Like someone else noted, they do have regulars and that always seems good to me. On top of it, the manicure was only $8. I'm pretty sure like most salons they prefer cash but do accept cards. I'm definitely going to come back for service and try the Shellac which is only $20. If I could give negative 10 to this place I would. Today 2/28/21 I wanted to treat myself to a mani pedi, my regular place was closed so I decided to come here because I used to be a frequent costumer about 2 yrs ago. Pedicure was good, the guy who did it was ok. When it was time to get my dip powder manicure, it was the worst experience I've ever had! I already had old dip powder, usually to take it off they soak your nails with nail polish remover for a couple minutes. He did not do that. He asked if I wanted my nails short I said yes just a little. Instead of cutting them with a nail clipper he made them short with the thing that buffs the nails. He removed the old dip powder by sanding every last bit & made my nails paper thin! Not only that, they were so thin that when he was making my left ring finger shorter he literally almost disintegrated the nail because he made them super thin. I said to him he messed up so bad and he said "I'll put tips on". I refused bc I let my natural nails long so I don't use fake nails (to keep my nails healthy). I didn't say anything at first bc I trusted that he knew what he was doing.. I should've said something as soon as he made my nails short with the buffer... I paid for my pedicure and walked out crying. I've NEVER in my life had a horrible experience like this. I'm sure this place has good people like Paul, he is great. But please DO NOT GET KEVIN!!! He is HORRIBLE!!! He looks like he's in his late 40's early 50's, just PLEASE DON'T USE HIM! He will ruin your nails!! I paid for my pedicure bc I'm not the type of person just to walk out without paying but the fact they didn't say "it's ok we are sorry we won't charge you for that" is crazy!! The other nail tech saw what he did and they were just like it's ok we will fix it.. the hell they're, I wouldn't let anyone else there touch my hands... my nails hurt so bad bc they're paper thin & I won't be able to get anything else until they heal. I'm not someone that complains even when I'm not satisfied with how they come out or when the polish comes off after a couple days ... but this!!? This is just unacceptable an the fact that I walked out of there crying my eyes out is outrageous!! Now I see why they have lost so many costumes. read more

I have been a regular customer here for a few years now, coming every 2-4 weeks for gel manicures & pedicures. I have found that my nails almost always come out beautiful, but the service can be hit or miss. I've always taken my chances by coming in without an appointment but I will no longer do that anymore, as some employees are not up to par with the others (see below). However I continue to return because my nails almost always look perfect, they have a wide selection, and they are willing to do any design you bring a picture of. On the negative, watch out for the following people: the tall male manicurist with the blonde tips to his hair made me bleed 2x during the same gel manicure once, so I try to avoid having him do my nails now, though they did still come out nice when he did them. More importantly I am not at all a fan of Hannah, as she has rushed through my nails on numerous occasions & not done the job to my liking. This occurred yet again at a recent visit about a month and a half ago and she was also rude to me the entire time as though I were inconveniencing her, plus she was rough with me, pulling my hands and pushing down on my fingers when they got too tensed up, harshly telling me "relax!" and sighing at me. She has been this way toward me nearly every time she's done my nails and I'm a very regular long term customer. That is not how you treat anyone, especially a loyal frequent customer. If she isn't in a rush my nails do still come out nice, but if she's in a rush they come out noticeably sloppy. After this bad experience with Hannah, I went to a different salon because I was annoyed and had a bad taste in my mouth, but decided to return to Koko today to give them one last chance, as I have been very satisfied with my nails almost 100% of the time and they do have a very large selection of gel & powder colors & designs compared to other salons nearby. Today a newer employee named CiCi did my nails and she was WONDERFUL! She helped me select my color, carefully handpicked a combination of glitters for me in order to execute a design I asked for, made sure I was happy with the length & shape of my nails, took her time doing my powder gel manicure which came out gorgeous, and selected a polish for my toes to match. She was friendly, upbeat, and happy to help me. All I expect is for someone to do my nails well & be kind, but she went above and beyond to make sure I was happy! I will continue to come to Koko now thanks to CiCi and I will be booking my appointments ahead of time from now on to ensure that I see her. If you want the best, ask for my new favorite CiCi or of course Nancy or Paul. I learned the hard way to stop coming without an appointment. Thank you CiCi for restoring my faith in Koko, and thank you to all the other employees there who are fantastic and very skilled! read more

Their prices are unbeatable, their service is perfect and (most importantly) they are great and what they do. I've had many different nail techs and no matter the technician my nails came out great. Always satisfied. My sister now prefers Cece to do her nails but other honorable mentions are Sunny and Steven! The very last time I went I had another male do my nails and he was great! To be completely honest after going here numerous times and making them my main go to and reading all of the comments commenting on the decline of the business I have began to agree with the other customers. I have been a loyal customer for a while now but i have just experienced unnecessary stress going to this establishment and through all of the stressful situations i only got one apology which is disappointing. The last time i went there was the last straw on my decision to not come back to this establishment because i had an appointment with Mandy and was taken ten minutes later then my appointment time which I usually deal with and don't mind because that is the usual when coming here but after Mandy started helping me she decided to let me nails soak off because it was hurting to much but after 15 Minutes of my nails soaking and watching her assist someone else she finally decides to call over her coworker to help me with my nails who i didn't even have an appointment with or seen them prior to today so i decided i was sick of the rudeness here and am going to take my business elsewhere and will not be returning here until you fix certain things that are necessary in a nail salon like employees that can understand what I'm saying so they can at least do my nails the right way. read more

Okay. Just okay. I came here to get a manicure because I was in the area and based on yelp reviews I didn't think I could go wrong. 1. DIRTY-I hate dirty nail places. They do not clean their tools and use the same products on everyone without cleaning them. Just a heads up to all those who go to nail salon at minimal the salon you go to should disinfect their items with alcohol in front of you and use separate nail file and buffer for each customer. Call it a pet peeve but I rather be safe than sorry because God knows what diseases other people are carrying. 2. CUSTOMER SERVICE- could have been much better. The wait was long. I went on a Tuesday afternoon and they had a 30 minute wait so I can only imagine what their establishment is like on the weekend. Techs were a little rude and didn't offer me any assistance when saw me struggling to carry my purse to the nail dryer with my wet nails. 3. QUALITY- they did a rushed and messy job. I had to tell the nail tech to clean it up like four times. They soaked my hands in cold water. Did a have a** paint job and overall did not satisfy me. My paint job chipped right after I left the salon. They take for ever to do your nails I always fall asleep the nail salon is crowned and small and need renovation! And there not as sanitary . It's an old nail salon which a 90s 80s look I only go for a color change for emergencies. Only good thing I can say is they don't do your refills super thick ! Which is a good thing . I got a lumpy poorly done gel manicure. The guy must have been in training because people kept coming over to see how he's doing. I think it's perfectly okay to have a trainee do someone's nails, but that someone needs to be asked if that's alright with them and the price should be adjusted (for example they can offer half the usual price if you choose to let the apprentice perform the service). This was my first gel manicure so I wasn't sure what to expect. My friend was getting the same service done next to me so I quickly realized something was off. My nails were cut terribly, and I'm always too shy to correct people so that's half my fault. I guess. Then my nails were not painted one hand at a time, but by painting the pinky on my right hand then the one of the left, then the right ring finger then the left one, and so on. Each time I had to pay attention so that I could give him the right hand and place the other one under the dryer-light-thing. This complicated process was not only exhausting but increased the chance of error, namely that I nicked a polished finger when I had to put my hand under the light for the umpteenth time. Did you know there are like 3 or 4 layers of polish in a gel manicure? Yeah. Exhausting. All this and I didn't get the pedicure that I also wanted and booked because by the time I was done they were closing. They couldn't given a heads up because I wanted the pedi more than the mani. The manicure barely last a week. It was cracking near the cuticles and lifting off my nails. (It's like complaining that the food was horrible and given in such small portions...) This turned out to be a blessing since I just peeled it all off and got everything redone elsewhere with a regular manicure. This is why I do my own nails usually. (Btw, my friend's nails looked perfect when the woman doing them was finished and she also finished minutes before the guy working on mine was done. It seems to depend on who you get.) read more

Great nail spa! Came here based on all the great yelp reviews. I got a gel manicure ($20- great price for the area) and the service and all were great! Unfortunately, within a couple days the nailpolish color began to turn color, it started as a pretty pink and began to turn splotchy-white (no, I was NOT going for a tie-dye look)! I had gone away for the weekend and could not go back in for about a week after I initially got my nails done but they were so nice and accommodating. They re-did my gel manicure with a different color for free and were very nice about it. Sometimes places can give you a bit of a headache in this type of situation but this place was great! I had a different person each time but each of them did an awesome job- my nails looked great! They allowed my previous gel color to soak for a while in acetone before trying to scrape the heck out of them like my previous gel manicure experience here in Long Island which ruined my nails for months, so I appreciated that too :) I also got a pedicure the day that I went back and it came out nice! I had to wait a little while between manicure and pedicure because the place became very very busy but because of the friendly service and flexibility I didn't mind. Don't bother going unless you make an appointment/have endless time to wait! I don't think I have ever waited so long in a nail salon on a Wednesday evening in all my life. I was literally in the salon from 5:15 p.m. until after 8 o'clock at night. The technicians were disorganized and incessantly bickering with one another on who to serve first. Their technique, it seems, is to assign a technician to two customers at once, making the time it takes to get a simple manicure at least double. Now, don't get me wrong, the quality of their overall service is fine. I got a relaxing spa pedicure which comes with a free manicure, 10 minute foot massage, and five minute back massage, and since I was getting a gel manicure instead that day, they graciously gave me a fifteen minute back massage instead. In short, I think I would go back to KoKo Nails & Spa, but most definitely with an appointment. Call me impatient, but sitting in a cramped salon for over three hours is just a bit much for me. read more
