First, in case you don't know, kolaches are pastries from eastern Europe. They are usually slightly sweet bread, filled with a variety of things, from fruits, to meats and cheese. They are addictive, and very filling too. Kolache factory is the closest place to my house to get them, and probably the best I've had in Austin (granted, I haven't been to many places). They have an amazing assortment of kolaches.It's pretty easy to pick out 4 of them and still stay under 6 bucks. I've tried, and enjoyed, the ham and cheese, apple, BBQ beef, turkey and dressing (holiday time only), jalapeno sausage and cheese. They have special holiday recipes right now, including turkey and dressing, pumpkin, and pecan. They are only open till 2pm, so it's really only a breakfast / lunch place.. read more

Anyone who gives this place a bad review should eat at home. The sausage and gravy kolache cures my hangover within the hour, the fruit kolaches are perfectly sweet and gooey, the staff doesn't bother me with heavy conversation when I'm obviously half dead from the night before, and they have a drive through. KOLACHE REVIEW: I had an "Ah-HA!" moment when I found this place. On my journey to seek out the best kolaches in Texas, I've been hitting little donut shops and eating a lot of fancy "pigs-in-a-blankets" passed off as kolaches. Upon arriving at this place--with a kolache-specific name--I got the feeling that I just upped my game. They have a nice variety of different kolaches--different meats, breakfast fillings, and, what I'd not seen before, is the original fruit-filled kolaches that the Czechs brought to Texas in years gone by. I saw the empty rack for the meatball kolache, that has been my Holy Grail since the kolache search began those many long weeks ago. I knew I'd reached a new level in the journey. I ordered a sausage and gravy kolache, a spinach kolache, and a raspberry kolache. The sausage and gravy kolache (don't tell my cardiologist, BTW) was great--nice, savory ground sausage, and NOT oozing with gravy; just enough to keep a nice moisture and add a bit of flavor. Spinach kolache was a nice departure from pigs-in-blankets, too. The spinach sits on top, instead of hiding inside the pastry. A great flavor, as well. The raspberry kolache was a nice treat, though not much different from a jelly donught with the jelly on the outside. Still very nice. The one ding I need to dole out, is that the girl behind the counter either misheard me, or didn't care--she heated the wrong kolaches. My meat and spinach kolaches were cold, and the raspberry was hot. I don't like hot fruit fillings unless there's a nice vanilla ice cream melting over it. Otherwise, the fruit must stay cool. And the other two kolaches were cold, and had a "leftover" sense to them. But still, I do see the potential of this place, and I will return! read more

So Ive been a loyal morning customer ...devouring meatball and spaghetti sauce kolaches everyday for the past 5 years. Yep, I like to take care of my body. One afternoon I had a hankering for more kolaches so I came at closing time to get my fix. After I made my purchase a worker came by with a big trash bucket and started to throw all the unsold kolaches away... He swept his hand on the trays violently sending those kolaches to their sad deaths. I was appalled at the waste! I asked why they didn't donate those to a soup kitchen or to a loyal customer such as myself..and the teenage boy just shrugged and I said "eh I don't know about that..." I've been trying to contact the owner of this place to no avail... I need to educate and scold him on not wasting food. Until I talk with him or her...I'll be eating at other Kolache establishments. read more

One Word SAUSAGEANDGRAVYKOLACHE! I had just dropped off my sister's dog, and was feeling a little peaked from a little Sunday night bout with Lone Star. I saw this Kolache shop and decided to give it a try. I was unsure what to order, then I saw a sign that said, SPECIAL: Sausage and Gravy Kolache. I wasn't buying it at first. I said, "Do you mean to tell me, there is Sausage and Gravy inside of that Kolache?" The response was affirmative. So I bought one, I had to resist buying all they had, I limited it to one though. My wife's family is Czech, I know Kolaches. This isn't my favorite style of Kolache, but it did have SAUSAGE AND GRAVY inside of it! It was pretty damn good really. Kolache was $1.69, which seems high, and they had no coffee brewed which seems illegal or something. I'd go back for that particular Kolache though. Great idea. read more

I want to start by saying it really pains me to write this review... My husband and I used to live by the Kolache Factory on N Lamar and we never had a bad experience there. We recently moved up north and I cannot say the same about our experience at the Parmer location. We picked up kolaches to go this morning. My husband is a vegetarian so he is limited in his choices. He ordered an egg and cheese and a potato egg and cheese kolache. The potato egg and cheese was the last one they had made on the tray. I am not a vegetarian so they put mine in a separate bag so they didn't get mixed up. They labeled his bag EC & PEC just to be sure. We got home. He ate the egg and cheese no problem everything was right. Two bites into the potato egg and cheese and he realized there was no potato.. looked down and instead there was bacon! That means the last "potato egg and cheese" on the tray was actually a bacon egg and cheese! It needs to be said that this is not okay! Not only was my husband forced with the unpleasantries of having to spit out and throw away his food.. we paid for this! It's exceptionally frustrating, and this place is lucky all I'm doing is leaving a crappy review... There are a lot of vegetarians in this town. Things like this cannot happen. So let me start off by saying that I have grown up eating kolaches, and very good ones at that. When I come to visit my boyfriend in Austin, I tend to find myself craving the soft bread with the meet inside, that calls itself a kolache. I am used to "morning kolache" where they use Hawaiian bread as the roll, YUM!! So, one morning I ventured into this kolache factory and was surprisingly very pleased. I got one sausage and cheese (to compare to my morning kolache place) and then something new, the BBQ beef kolache. The sausage and cheese kolache in no way shaped up to the one in my hometown. The bread is soft, but not Hawaiian. She sausage wasn't as juicy and was one of those ones with the cheese inside of the meat. Ew! The BBQ beef however was delicious!!! I was just treated very poorly by the male representative for this eatery. While ordering thru UberEats, the app said my order was ready. Upon arrival I was told the order was not ready. This area is very loud due to potential traffic. I told the representative that I could not hear him. Instead of speaking up a little bit, he chose to speak in the same low monotone pitch as before. He then had me wait 10-15 mins. before receiving my order. He was very rude and condescending. This was not a good experience from this small business. If this person doesn't like his job, he should find another one. read more

Excellent variety of kolaches. It will take me several trips to try all my potential favorites. The bacon egg and cheese was hearty and filling. The jalapeno and cheese was smaller, full of jalapenos, and accented with some cheese. It would make a great party tray for tailgating on game day! Wanted to love it but just not Impressed. Went to the drive thru and bought 2 kolaches (sausage, egg, cheese and a jalapeno and sausage one) and a cup of coffee. It was my first time eating a kolache and I wasn't sure what to expect. The kolaches we got were just dinner rolls stuffed with filling. The sausage, egg, and cheese one didn't skimp on the stuffing but it didn't have any flavor. The jalapeno and sausage one was stuffed with A LOT of jalapeno and a small hot dog sausage. Skip the coffee. It was beyond burnt and the purpose of the drive through is so I can get everything prepared to go, instead they handed me my creamer and sugar separately so I had to park the car and prepare my coffee. read more

I absolutely am in love with their Ranchero kolaches!!! I order NOTHING else. They are a perfect mix of everything breakfast with a bite! Jalepenos throughout! I have tried other variations of these delicious baked yummies and while they are good per se, nothing comes close to the famously delicious rancheros. I will love them forever! read more

We have visited this location a few times because we thought that the overall experience would be better if we gave it another shot. We wanted to make sure that our initial - terrible - experience wasn't a fluke. The good thing about this place is that it's on the way to both of our jobs and MoPac, and there's almost never a line or a wait. BUT, it appears that one of the employees there is obviously in the wrong line of work; She's clearly not customer oriented or even a morning person...which is key if you're working at a place like this. She doesn't listen when you're ordering, cops an attitude all the time, and over all this, she hands you your wares and moves on with her day. No "thank you" or anything. Nice. We've only gotten quality kolaches there once. The other few visits were so subpar that we won't return. Not only is the bread pretty nasty (and yeasty, like another reviewer stated), but as a general rule, the koloaches seem to have shrunken...by about half. Add the higher-than-you'd expect pricing, and you have a recipe for disaster. read more

Tried 3 places this weekend, this place, Kolache Creations, and Lone Star Kolaches. Got the sausage and cheese and the jalepeno popper which is cream cheese, bacon and jalepeno. The latter was very good, but that's the only one I'll come back for. The sausage and cheese left much to be desired, and the dough was nothing to write home about. These kolaches are slightly magical. They are SO freaking good - I've had the egg & cheese numerous times and I love that they have a wheat option! Who says you can't have whole grain just because you're eating fast food? The jalepeno and cheese is also one of my favorites and the cream cheese chocolate is an absolute showstopper. Five star worthy, but one big downfall - the service is unreliable and pretty slow. Sometimes the people behind the counter just seem so miserable that it makes me avoid that place in the morning - you don't really want someone to put you in a bad mood before you've even started your day! So, I want to start off by saying that we did get kolaches delivered. It was clear though that they were never hot from the start as the delivery service used was prompt and they weren't even a tad bit warm. When I crave a kolache I completely expect them to be warm and the cheese gooey. Had these been warmed and kept in foil I would give this place 5 stars. I am an avid fan of the kolache. I'm so addicted, that when I'm driving around and I see a new kolache shop, I MUST stop and try it. Being a vegetarian, I only eat the fruit kind, but my boyfriend eats meat and can vouche for the others. Anyway, last week I tried the Kolache Factory. It was probably the worst kolache experience of my life. First off, they got my order of "two sausage, two fruit" wrong. How hard is that? Plus, the kolaches are way overpriced. Most places sell them for about .75-1.00 or so, but the Kolache Factory sells theirs for 1.29 each. They're also smaller than other kolaches at other places. The bread they used was yeasty and doughy, as if it wasn't cooked thoroughly. The worst thing about the Kolache Factory, however, was the employees. Please hire literate people, or at least people who can read numbers. Seriously. As soon as I walked out of the store, I immediately said to myself, "I'm never going back there" and I encourage everyone to do the same. If you live in that neighborhood, try Lone Star Kolache which is seriously just on the other side of 38th street. They're better priced, and their employees passed third grade. Plus, I think they actually use those new-fangled inventions called ovens. read more

I read the reviews and decided that now was a good day to go for broke. I have always been a big fan of the Kolache Shoppe, but it is no longer on the way to work. I gave the "factory" a try. Not disappointed. I have yet to try the Ranchero, but it is on the list. My faves at this point are the Sausage Egg and cheese and the Sausage and gravy kolaches. I have tried almost all of the kolache shops in Austin after Kolache Creations closed (the one on Burnet Rd). This place has the best around, by far. They have the regular, expected flavors and then some that are unique . My personal favorites are the Bar-b-que and spinach. Staff is super friendly and helpful. This is my favorite place to get kolaches down in austin, so far. I have eaten mostly thier breakfast kolaches. They do have fruit kolaches and several other flavors. I dont always go here but when I do I cant help but get a dozen. The service is pretty good in the drive thru or in person. They have many options and are great for catering or a small get togethers. Best Kolaches hands down!! I was under the impression that I just didn't like Kolaches until I came across the Kolache Factory. Their Kolaches aren't the stereotypical mini hot dogs in cheap bread. They make fresh full rolls that are stuffed with almost everything imaginable! My favorite is the sausage and gravy Kolache which tastes like everything you've ever loved about biscuits and gravy. A couple of others to note would be Ranchero which has salsa as a secret ingredient along with eggs and other goodies. If you like Jalepeno poppers then they have a Kolaches that is filled with cream cheese and Jalepeno that is good. I would highly suggest checking this place out! read more
