Wonderful casual spot for delicious food. Komal is located in a market with lots of other restaurants. Paid parking lot or free street parking is available. Service was relatively quick but can get backed up depending on time. We ordered a wide variety of items: Taco Sonia Flor de calabaza Taco costilla Taco de suadero Tlacoyos Agua del día - mango and pineapple Everything was delicious! My favorites were the taco Sonia and flor de calabaza. I loved the corn flavor in the flor de calabaza. We probably could've ordered one less item to feed 2 people.

My last visit, I just had a fantastic meal with their taco that reminded me of CDMX style or Taco Sonia and the tlacoyos. On my most recent visit, I came here after seeing a pretty large comedy show and wanted to grab a bite before heading home. Got here a little before closing so the Mercado had a chill vibe in general and there wasn't really a wait to order. I specifically wanted the squash blossom quesadilla or quesadilla de Flor de Calabaza. Oh my...just a beautiful dish that has so many different flavors and textures on one plate. And also meatless btw if that matters. I thoroughly enjoyed my dish especially since it wasn't busy in the Mercado, I was able to order some other goodies from other stands to to round out my meal. Always a treat when visiting the Mercado and especially when the lines aren't crazy. Because it was on the later side on a Sunday, parking in the lot was pretty easy to find.

Came to this spot because I didn't have the patience for Holbox (one day!!) Had heard about Komal and was especially interested because of the blue corn tortillas. The tortillas and the salsas are honestly the highlight! Loved the suadero tacos, very fatty and flavorful. The squash blossom tacos were unique and very beautiful. Will be back! Just note that it's a bit expensive but I think overall worth it. Also love that it's in a foodhall, fun environment to be in.

Although surrounded by some major competition in the same food hall, Komal is not to be forgotten about or overlooked. Fresh tortillas, delicious meat, and finely diced onions plus the citrus and spice from the lime and hot sauce create what I'd consider a perfect bite. No line, quick service, and great food! I would return.

I split a Flor de Calabaza Quesadilla here with a friend and it was decent, not super mind-blowing. What was disappointing was the lack of cheese in my half (my friend had more cheese). So it was pretty much just tortilla, corn, and the squash blossom that I was consuming. The ingredients were good, but the cheese was definitely needed. The corn was flavorful on its own. I did enjoy the side chipotle sauce though. It added a lot of needed flavor and heat. The presentation was pretty. They just need to work on cheese ratio and consistency. This is a food stall located within a bigger food hall in the USC area. Parking can get competitive since Holbox is also located here. I think I would try this spot again and get other menu items since the quality does seem to be pretty good.

    03/14/2026 - Flor De Calabaza Quesadilla $11.50

Komal is located in the Mercado de Paloma. I saw the Flor De Calabaza Quesadilla for $11.50 and that's all I wanted from them. I expected the squash blossoms to be cooked, but it was rather just added to the quesadilla for looks. So it was rather raw still. I like my squash blossoms to have a bit of crisp to it and this was far from it. I did like the blue tortilla though.

Delicious! Masa, meat, vegetables, salsa de chile, agua fresca, quesadilla, nopalitos - everything is a hit! I will definitely continue coming here. My favorite are the tacos with nopales and milpa salad

My boyfriend and I had seen Komal before at Mercado La Paloma and just somehow never made it there until now. What finally pushed us to try it was seeing Chef Fátima Juárez get nominated for a James Beard Emerging Chef award!! That's a big deal! We ordered online and got the tlacoyos, flautas de ayocote, tacos de suadero, flor de calabaza, and both aguas frescas, and it ended up being such a fun little spread. Everything tasted authentic. I also really liked the Mercado La Paloma setting. It's right across from Holbox and the marketplace is very casual. Fun fact apparently Mercado La Paloma used to be an old garment factory! We also loved the staff, you can tell they work so hard and make everything with real care and pride. Even the name is thoughtful - komal is a nod to the comal which is the traditional griddle used in Mexican cooking. Beautiful. Really glad we finally tried it! Also fingers crossed for the award results in June!!

If you come here for Holbox for seafood, grab other delicious tacos and quesadilla here at Komal made of flor de calabaza, pork or brisket. We came here to celebrate a few of our birthdays and my friends in the party went ahead and bought their favorites to share at the table. The quesadilla de flor de calabaza was delicious! The blossoms peaked out of the quesadilla and it was very pretty. The tacos suadero were delicious too. The tortillas were phenomenal and held the marinated meat perfectly. Chicken mole taquitos were also a hit. Though the Mercado de Paloma is a casual dining experience, businesses like Komal brings you delicious food from their Oaxacan culture and is presented to you artistically. The presentation is just as high as the quality and flavor of the dishes.

Nothing here disappointed the tacos were good, the flautas de papa con mole were soooo goooood. Mercado la Paloma is a cool spot in DTLA to have food and enjoy the day. The service was great! Nice people all around

Went on an adventure to Mercado La Paloma with a couple restaurants in mind, one of which was Komal! This place did not disappoint. I've never tasted tortillas like this before, and if you know anything about Komal then you know why (go watch YouTube). The flavor is incredible, we had the quesadilla de flor (squash blossom flower), the quesadilla de hongas (blue oyster mushrooms), and the molotes (cheese filled plantain balls on mole sauce). The mole was the winning dish for me, the best mole I've ever experienced, so much so we bought some, along with fresh handmade tortillas. Service was great, and as mentioned in another post the Mercado La Paloma is a place where culture, community, and awareness come together. I will be back!!

The iconic item in most Latin American households -- un comal -- is the also the name of this must try at Paloma Market. Bringing together the unique flavors of Oaxaca, Komal's signature is in their masa prep. Expect to try a difference in a handmade blue tortilla or yellow, as well as the masa for a tlacoyo or tamal. The verdict may leave you with an appreciation for corn turned to masa with skill that you'll wish you had known sooner. On my visit I enjoyed their flautas, wish it would come with a side of rice or greens, but ... the sweet-mole was exquisite! Note that depending on the time it may be loud and bustling at La Paloma, so if you're looking for a quieter experience go after the rush is over.

Originally was in the area for Holbox but we literally could not stomach the line so we headed inside the food court to, our surprise, another Michelin guide Mexican spot. Komal is known for their house-made corn tortillas and I must say, I was impressed. There was a short line when we arrived and a regular in front of us was kind enough to guide us through the menu as we were contemplating while we waited. This spot is definitely pricier than we expected for a food court Mexican place, but it was well worth it! We got the Molotes de Platano to start and we were most shocked by this dish. It was sweet appetizer with a chocolate mole base and ripe plantains on top. We also got the Tacos de Suadero and Taco Sonia. While it doesn't look like much, it definitely can fill you up. My favorite by far was the Flor de Calabaza Quesadilla. You have to get this if you love corn! The orange blossoms inside gave it a nice sweetness and all together, this dish was immaculate. Would highly recommend!

When I first arrived, I gave them the name of our reservation, and the staff had no idea what I was talking about. We were a party of 6, yet they seated us at a tiny table that was clearly not appropriate for our group. When it was time to order, my husband very clearly told the waiter which pasta he wanted and even showed him a picture of the item on the menu. The waiter looked at it and agreed. My food came out, but my husband's food never did. We eventually found out that his order was never even put in. What made it worse was when the waiter came out saying, "Oh my God, I thought you said you didn't want it." Everyone at the table looked at him completely confused because my husband had literally told him what he wanted and showed him the menu item. Instead of simply acknowledging the mistake and fixing it, we were left waiting. On top of that, trying to get anyone's attention was nearly impossible. We had to repeatedly try to get someone's attention just to get basic service. Then there was another issue with the entrance fee. My sister-in-law had messages showing that we were told that if we ate at the restaurant, we would no longer have to pay the entrance fee. We showed those messages to the woman handling the wristbands, but instead of looking into it or speaking to someone who could clarify the situation, she simply said, "I don't know, you have to pay." No attempt was made to investigate or resolve the issue. After everything that happened, they still added a tip to the bill, despite the extremely poor service we received. Overall, this was one of the most frustrating restaurant experiences I've had. Poor communication, poor service, lack of organization, and no effort to make things right. I definitely will not be recommending this place to anyone, and we will not be returning.

Everything tasted super fresh and the citrus gave it the perfect balance. The Bone Marrow Mole was rich, flavorful, and came with a generous portion and toast. For my main course, I had the skirt steak, which was cooked perfectly--tender, well-seasoned, and delicious with the green sauce. The homemade tortillas were amazing too. Since they live in an area with limited Mexican cuisine, I chose Guelaguetza, a James Beard Award-winning restaurant with authentic Oaxacan recipes, something completely new to them. They were excited to try something different, as they don't have many Mexican food options where they live, and I wanted to expand their culinary horizons. We were greeted with complimentary chips - some were drizzled with mole and Oaxacan cheese, which we requested refills of, and others were served with red and green salsas. The green salsa had a nice kick to it. For our meal, we shared two large dishes: the Festival de Moles ($53.00) and the Tlayuda Guelaguetza ($27.50). The Tlayuda Guelaguetza, which is also called a Mexican pizza, was layered with bean and chicharron spread, queso fresco, cabbage, quesillo, beef tasajo, pork Cecina, and pork chorizo. While I've always wanted to try Tlayuda, this one wasn't good, and I wouldn't recommend it. The pork chorizo was particularly unappetizing, and neither my parents nor I enjoyed the dish, feeling it was a waste of money. The Festival de Moles ($53.00) featured four individual moles - negro, rojo, coloradito, and estofado - with a choice of shredded chicken breast or pork spare ribs. We opted for a mix of both and found this dish to be excellent, and we would definitely order it again. They were very impressed with the moles, and enjoyed them for the first time. The only minor complaint was a lack of tortillas to dip with the mole, though they did provide some rice. We ordered several drinks, which significantly increased the bill. I was surprised we spent $200 on lunch for three people with only two meals. I started with the Pasion De Oaxaca ($16.00), a mezcal, tequila, passion fruit, grapefruit juice, and tajin cocktail that was excellent, perfectly balanced, strong, but not too sweet. For my second drink, I had the refreshing Aquas Frescas - Jamaica ($6), which was perfect after my meal. I even took it to go, and they kindly provided a cup. My dad ended up taking it, as he needed it with his medication (they're old!). My parents, who were trying mole for the first time, were very impressed and really enjoyed it. Our only minor complaint was the lack of tortillas to dip in the mole, although they did provide some rice. The food took a little longer to come out, even though the restaurant wasn't busy. I imagine this type of cuisine is labor-intensive, and you can't rush the cooking time for mole. You just have to trust the process! We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Guelaguetza Restaurante and will definitely be back. I can see why they're a James Beard Award-winning restaurant; you can get authentic Oaxacan flavors in LA! We're lucky to live here.
