Quesadilla de Flor y Quesadilla de Hongas
    Marie E.

Went on an adventure to Mercado La Paloma with a couple restaurants in mind, one of which was Komal! This place did not disappoint. I've never tasted tortillas like this before, and if you know anything about Komal then you know why (go watch YouTube). The flavor is incredible, we had the quesadilla de flor (squash blossom flower), the quesadilla de hongas (blue oyster mushrooms), and the molotes (cheese filled plantain balls on mole sauce). The mole was the winning dish for me, the best mole I've ever experienced, so much so we bought some, along with fresh handmade tortillas. Service was great, and as mentioned in another post the Mercado La Paloma is a place where culture, community, and awareness come together. I will be back!!

    03/14/2026 - Flor De Calabaza Quesadilla $11.50

Komal is located in the Mercado de Paloma. I saw the Flor De Calabaza Quesadilla for $11.50 and that's all I wanted from them. I expected the squash blossoms to be cooked, but it was rather just added to the quesadilla for looks. So it was rather raw still. I like my squash blossoms to have a bit of crisp to it and this was far from it. I did like the blue tortilla though.

Delicious! Masa, meat, vegetables, salsa de chile, agua fresca, quesadilla, nopalitos - everything is a hit! I will definitely continue coming here. My favorite are the tacos with nopales and milpa salad

My boyfriend and I had seen Komal before at Mercado La Paloma and just somehow never made it there until now. What finally pushed us to try it was seeing Chef Fátima Juárez get nominated for a James Beard Emerging Chef award!! That's a big deal! We ordered online and got the tlacoyos, flautas de ayocote, tacos de suadero, flor de calabaza, and both aguas frescas, and it ended up being such a fun little spread. Everything tasted authentic. I also really liked the Mercado La Paloma setting. It's right across from Holbox and the marketplace is very casual. Fun fact apparently Mercado La Paloma used to be an old garment factory! We also loved the staff, you can tell they work so hard and make everything with real care and pride. Even the name is thoughtful - komal is a nod to the comal which is the traditional griddle used in Mexican cooking. Beautiful. Really glad we finally tried it! Also fingers crossed for the award results in June!!

If you come here for Holbox for seafood, grab other delicious tacos and quesadilla here at Komal made of flor de calabaza, pork or brisket. We came here to celebrate a few of our birthdays and my friends in the party went ahead and bought their favorites to share at the table. The quesadilla de flor de calabaza was delicious! The blossoms peaked out of the quesadilla and it was very pretty. The tacos suadero were delicious too. The tortillas were phenomenal and held the marinated meat perfectly. Chicken mole taquitos were also a hit. Though the Mercado de Paloma is a casual dining experience, businesses like Komal brings you delicious food from their Oaxacan culture and is presented to you artistically. The presentation is just as high as the quality and flavor of the dishes.

The iconic item in most Latin American households -- un comal -- is the also the name of this must try at Paloma Market. Bringing together the unique flavors of Oaxaca, Komal's signature is in their masa prep. Expect to try a difference in a handmade blue tortilla or yellow, as well as the masa for a tlacoyo or tamal. The verdict may leave you with an appreciation for corn turned to masa with skill that you'll wish you had known sooner. On my visit I enjoyed their flautas, wish it would come with a side of rice or greens, but ... the sweet-mole was exquisite! Note that depending on the time it may be loud and bustling at La Paloma, so if you're looking for a quieter experience go after the rush is over.

Originally was in the area for Holbox but we literally could not stomach the line so we headed inside the food court to, our surprise, another Michelin guide Mexican spot. Komal is known for their house-made corn tortillas and I must say, I was impressed. There was a short line when we arrived and a regular in front of us was kind enough to guide us through the menu as we were contemplating while we waited. This spot is definitely pricier than we expected for a food court Mexican place, but it was well worth it! We got the Molotes de Platano to start and we were most shocked by this dish. It was sweet appetizer with a chocolate mole base and ripe plantains on top. We also got the Tacos de Suadero and Taco Sonia. While it doesn't look like much, it definitely can fill you up. My favorite by far was the Flor de Calabaza Quesadilla. You have to get this if you love corn! The orange blossoms inside gave it a nice sweetness and all together, this dish was immaculate. Would highly recommend!

Decided to try this place for the first time. We ordered a couple of Tacos Sonia and the Brisket tacos. Also, we got a Mushroom Quesadilla. We started with the Taco Sonia. It was very flavorful and the tortilla was awesome. The salsa was a bit spicy, but really tasty with the taco. The Brisket Taco was good, but it was overshadowed by the Sonia. Lastly we shared the Mushroom. Quesadilla. It was very good as well with fresh mushrooms. We really enjoyed it. I remarked that this is probably my number 1 taco in LA, which is saying something! We came here on a Saturday late morning and the entire Mercado was packed. Get here early as the word is out.

If you like corn, you will like Komal. Even the tiles are like corn kernels! As someone who doesn't typically like corn tortillas, Komal's dedication to the craft of masa is not lost on me. The fragrance from the tortillas really highlights all of their other ingredients, whether it's the meat, cactus, or potatoes. The textures and flavors completely surpassed my expectations overall. We got the tlacoyos, taco sonia, tacos de suadero, tacos de costilla, and the flor de calabaza quesadilla. We loved all of them!! The quesadilla is a sleeper hit and probably the most-loved overall with the sweetness from the squash blossom shining through, although if I had to pick a personal favorite, it would probably be the tacos de costilla with the caramelized onions! The items are also surprisingly good for sharing, and that way you can try more things! There's no line (especially compared to Holbox) even though they're on the Michelin Bib Gourmand list and the service is very fast. Honestly, it's just a matter of time before this place blows up!

Ignore the line out the door (which is for Holbox) and head inside Mercado de Paloma to the right to find the much more reasonable wait for Komal. Holbox gets their masa from Komal, btw. Service was quick, and they found us at our table outside. Best masa and tortillas of my life, hands down. MOLOTES: 4/5. Plantains are not really my thing but I can recognize that they had an excellent fry on them, the subtle sweetness of the plantain was nicely complemented by the savory molé sauce. TACO SONIA: 5/5. Huge. The chorizo and beef were super tender and savory, I was sad when we finished this one. SUADERO TACOS: 5/5. So good! The slow cooked meat was succulent, and the veggies were a nice bright contrast TACO DE COSTILLA: 3/5. The fried potato was great, but the onions were only translucent, definitely not caramelized, which was the main reason we wanted to try it. CHUCHITO: 5/5. A love letter to their fluffy masa, and we savored every bit of it!

Taquitos de papa (crunchy potato) con mole. Delicious.

Komal has a delicious menu. This Mexican little gem has indigenous flavor and ingredients as opposed to traditional Mexican restaurants. I love this place.

I've been wanting to visit since j read about them a while back somewhere, either a blog or a magazine. We happenwd to have some time after a doctor's appointment and dinner rush hour and came by mercado la Paloma on q Thursday afternoon at 4ish. We are at Holbox first but could not leave the mercado before tasting some of Komal's offerings as well. The staff are super friendly and helpful. My partner being difficult always have to eat off menu, crickets quesadilla was in the menu, but he wanted to own instead, they gladly oblige as it was a slow lull between meals service. I was hesitant of the quesadilla, I'm used to quesadillas geared and made for Americans, waaaaaaay too much cheese. But surprisingly the Flor the calabaza quesadilla has just q touch, which is the right amount. A delicious choice for sure. Wanted TJ rey More items, bitcqs mentioned we had just ate at Holbox. Decide tontaje home a tamal, surely it will survive reheating at home. Not only did it survive, it was delicious. The servers thoughtful packed all the condiments separately so we could assemble it at home after reheating. The space is festive and bright. With friendly and helpful staff. Cannot wait to go back and try other dishes.

My family and I were supposed to go to Holbox but the line was so long, so we decided to go to Komal instead, which was on the Michelin guide! Komal is located in a Mexican food hall, which made it so convenient, because there's so many places you can try! Not a spot looked bad! I ordered the Tacos de Suadero, and was impressed! The meat was cooked well and very tender. Solid tacos! The ambiance was also very nice, because the food hall was bustling with people! If you're coming with a group, I would definitely recommend having one person order and other people looking for a table as the food hall is PACKED!

Get the ceviche de atun! The aguachile was bomb too. And the live sea urchin is always good.
