Best sushi in the Clear Lake, League City, Friendswood area, for sure. It's a small restaurant, but I love the intimacy of it. It's decorated nicely with plenty of light. We immediately loved the vibe of the place. We had a great, knowledgeable, interested waiter named Cay (as in Cayenne). He was really fun to talk to and one of the main reasons we'll be back. For our appetizers we had the Gyoza which was delicious, and we had the Himachi Jalapeño dish. FANTASTIC sauce!! Plenty of sliced yellow tail for the price. We shared two sushi rolls. We LOVED the El Dorado Roll! No soy sauce necessary. And we enjoyed the New Orleans Roll. For desert, we tried three different mochi flavors. The plum wine mochi was the best. We had not had a chance to really celebrate but we were out making the rounds and since we were in the neighborhood we decided to try this place out. This restaurant is very close to where I live so I really wanted it to be good. The restaurant is small but cozy and well-decorated. But, I found the temperature inside to be uncomfortably warm. Wife and I each ordered a different bowl of ramen. The ingredients on top of the broth were fresh and tasty. But neither of us particularly liked our broths, which I think is the most important component. Neither of the broths had the amount of flavors we are accustomed to tasting at other ramen restaurants. Its almost like they toned down the amount of flavor to cater to Americans. Also, eating ramen in a warm environment can be a bit uncomfortable. The service was good. So, a part of me wishes I could give Komeya a better review. I may go back and try the sushi, in which case, I may bump up the amount of stars. read more

This was the first bowl of real ramen I've ever had. I was expecting it to be similar to pho but I was way wrong. This was a while ago so I don't recall exactly what it was called but it was definitely pork in a rich, almost creamy broth. I ordered an original ramen and sat down and I was greeted by a young man named kian he seemed very outgoing and friendly. We always go here for a great sushi and ramen dinner. The waiter Ben is very attentive and Ron the chef always makes a fantastic presentation. Food is absolutely fresh and delicious. The only reason why it has two stars is because of the waiter and sushi. I order the steamed dumplings which was good and the waiter recommended the Space Center Roll which was really good. I also ordered the spicy miso ramen and boy!!!! It had ZERO flavor. It wasn't at all spicy and all they had were chili oil and Sriracha sauce. I gone to high end Ramen restaurants and they have had flavor in their ramen without adding anything extra. The noodles were over cooked and hard to chew. After a few bites I pushed the bowl to the side and the waiter saw and asked how was it I told him I wasn't pleased and to cash me out. They still charged me for the bowl of ramen. Ok so, I'm not the type to write reviews but today (July 26, 2019) I went here for the first time with my boyfriend at around 4:30 and honestly it was the most awkward serving experience we've ever had in our life. The server had no social awareness. We ordered a seaweed salad for our appetizer and when we were waiting for our appetizer he comes back and says "while y'all are waiting for your ramen, would you like an appetizer?" Like uhm... we just ordered one and then when we asked about it again we hear him go in the kitchen and say "WHATS A SEAWEED SALAD?!" He also kept imputing himself into our conversations and making jokes that weren't funny and were making us uncomfortable. He told me he put a roofie in my boyfriends drink and while he was pouring my boyfriend waters I moved my cup so it would be easier for him to fill it up but then he left and took a step back and said "haha, just kidding." It was so rude. Whenever my boyfriend asked for the bill he handed it to me in my face and said "you're paying right" and I just handed it to my boyfriend like so inappropriate and when he took the tab he said "so an $100 tip, right?" LIKE NO PAL. 2 stars is for the food, it was good but nothing special. The server just made it the most awful experience we ever had. First, let me say that I did not eat here. I am a man of principle and customer service. Yes the quality and taste of food plays a major part in my decision to return to a restaurant, but so does customer service. I bought a restaurant.com 25 dollar certificate for this restaurant in May, 2 months ago. I have never had a problem with restaurant.com. I arrive and go inside where to eat. I kindly ask the waitress if the certificate is for this restaurant. The waitress immediately says that they do not take coupons. I explain to her that this is a certificate that I purchased and not a coupon. She leaves to talk to the manager. When she returns she advises me that the "chef" said that they will not honor this certificate even though it is for this restaurant. Now as I said earlier I am a man of principle. I told the waitress that I am not going to eat somewhere that will not honor something that I have already purchased. This business sold the certificates to get business, as restaurants do. I truly believe that once the business builds enough returning customers they no longer need to sell certificates, and can rely on their quality of their food. I left and was followed out the door as if my dollar was going to make them or break them. I advised the waitress that I did not need to eat there, but would leave a review on Yelp. The waitress said please hold on and let me talk to the "chef". She returned and said that the "chef" wanted to honor the deal that was purchased, but could not give us the 25 dollar credit. She said we would get 10 percent off our food. She then tries to explain to me that restaurant.com sold these certificates without the business authorizing it. Hmmmmmm... Well we did not eat there. The moral of this review is that if a restaurant cannot honor what they have already been paid for is a restaurant that cannot afford to be in business. I haven't written a review on here in awhile but I feel compelled to. We came in about an hour after opening on a Sunday. My husband and I had driven past this place several times and wanted to give it a shot since we've been to several great ramen/sushi places in the Houston area. We sat at the bar, they seemed kind of busy. It took a very long time to place our drink order but when we did the server was very friendly. We ordered 2 waters and 2 small hot sake and also placed our order at the same time, calamari, a poke bowl and a spicy miso ramen. Once again, it took more than 10 minutes to finally get our waters (and one of the servers asking twice what we ordered and if we had gotten our drinks.) We eventually did get them and then the waiting began again. The calamari was bland and chewy, it looked more like onion rings (and only 6 for $8.) When we finally received our food it did not come at the same time but a few minutes apart. The ramen was severely disappointing. The broth had no flavor, not even salty as you would expect and DEFINITELY not spicy. The noodles themselves also seemed to be boiled in water that wasn't even salted as they were also lacking. The noodles also were very, very overcooked. I could smush them between the chopsticks. The best part was the toppings (egg, bamboo shoots, etc.) It tasted closer to instant ramen from your local store shelf than anything close to what I would expect from a ramen bar. My husband's poke bowl was mediocre. It looked pretty but the snapper had a weirdly fishy aftertaste. Overall, neither one of us could bring ourselves to finish the dishes and $50 was ultimately wasted. The waiter, Cay, though was very nice and friendly, a bright spot in a negative experience. But we definitely won't be returning. read more

This is a charming restaurant in an excellent location. The chef takes some risks with his innovative sushi roll combinations, and the sashimi is very fresh and delicious. The ramen is exceptionally good, particularly with the rice noodles. I have dined here several times since they opened, and while they definitely had some growing pains while they found their way (like many restaurants), I find that their current waitstaff provides excellent service and they have a new sushi chef who does a fantastic job. I find myself eating here quite often because the food is addictive, healthy, and delicious. read more

However, the portions are small for the price. The ramen is about the same price as Jinya but tastier! They skimp on the extras in the ramen. The poke bowl has very little tuna. We decided to try Komeya on a Friday night for dinner. We arrived at 6:00PM and were surprised to find the restaurant almost empty. From the outside, it doesn't look like much. The inside though is very well decorated and is very cozy. It isn't a very large space, but they have arranged it well. The owner, who we met, is a very nice man. We were quickly seated and asked if we wanted something to drink. My wife ordered a Pepsi, but they were out of it that evening. We both had water. Our waiter was very, very bad. He seemed very interested in the only other table which had two girls at it. We were pretty sure he was hitting on them. There were two other waitresses there on the evening shift and they seemed to do most of his work for him. As we sat, several other tables came in. I suppose their rush starts closer to 6:30. We ordered spring rolls and a seaweed salad to start. The spring rolls were very good. I would say they were more like egg rolls in that they were larger than ones I have had in the past. The seaweed salad was very crisp and fresh. Again, both were very good. Our waiter finally made it back to us and took our dinner order. My wife got the original tonkotsu ramen and we ordered a few sushi rolls for the table: shaggy dog roll, Philadelphia roll, and the volcano roll. He disappeared for a while and soon after, one of the waitresses brought us the first roll. When the waiter came back, he brought us plates, one of which had dried food stuck to it. How gross! He should be checking these things. We had to ask one of the waitresses to please bring us another plate. The ramen and other rolls came out soon after this. The ramen was awful. In our opinion, it was completely inedible. Words cannot describe the soapy taste of it or the putrid smell. We had to wait for the waiter to come back to ask him to take it away from the table. In the process, he came and brought me a different bowl of ramen that I did not even order. That was also awful and got sent back. The sushi, however, was excellent. The Philadelphia roll was very fresh with nice pieces of salmon in it. I highly recommend this. The shaggy dog roll was missing the usual crunch on the outside that I am used to, but had a very good flavor. I would reorder it. The volcano roll was very, very nice. It is a baked roll and was a nice portion. The only complaint about it was that the eel sauce was a little more fishy than expected. That being said, we ate the whole thing. Overall, I have to give this place 3 out of 5 stars. I had to deduct 1 star for the poor wait staff. Even though there were three of them on the small floor, we still found ourselves waiting and trying to find one of them. The waiter in particular needs to step up his game. We deducted the second star for the horrific ramen. If you are going to advertise yourself as a ramen bar, make sure you can produce a good ramen first. We will definitely go back for the sushi, but will steer way clear of the disgusting ramen. read more

It's a family place with the kids pitching in. The food when it arrived was really really good!
