Komodo Loco in Denton is one of those places that just gets the balance right--great food, fun vibe, and something a little different from the usual spots around the Square. The Asian-Latin fusion menu is creative without being weird about it. The sushi rolls are packed with flavor, the ingredients taste fresh, and everything feels thoughtfully put together. It's the kind of place where you go in planning to try one thing and end up wanting to come back to work your way through the menu. The atmosphere is laid-back and lively, perfect for grabbing a casual dinner or drinks with friends. Staff is friendly. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Denton and want something a little more interesting than the standard Tex-Mex lineup.

Good food and great happy hour. My wife and I stopped by during a visit to Denton's Halloween which is super cool, but I digress. The place is real homey and very approachable. We stopped in around 5pm and found they have happy hour which was a nice surprise. We ordered a few items off that menu, but also wanted to try some regular items as well. The tuna and krab cones were really nice and light. Perfect to share over drinks. We always get an order of escolar when we find it. It was nicely cut and scored which made for an excellent chew. The last item to arrive was salmon dish called the cure. It had nice, thick slices of salmon with torched skin over a bed of soba noodles. It was okay and kind of strange. The torch really did a number on the skin. I would have preferred and hot skillet sear since the torch left it bitter and dusty from the ash. We are glad we tried it but wouldn't get it again. The service was great. We never ran out of drinks and had no questions on the progress of our order. We will come back every time we visit Denton.

Great food!! Great service!! I've never eaten anything here I didn't order again. Highly recommend, and Komodo is even great for those who don't eat sushi. Piggy Tots are soooo delicious!!

Was in town for a conference and used Yelp to scout out some nearby food options. Parking in the area is a bit tricky, but once you manage that, the walk around this little strip is easy and enjoyable. Lots of food and bar options nearby--it definitely has that small college town vibe (because it is one). I grabbed a seat at the bar and was greeted right away. Service was fast and friendly, which I appreciated since I was on a time crunch. I probably wouldn't return just because I'd want to explore other places if I'm ever back in town, but this spot did the job. What I ordered: Veg Out Roll Smoked Yellowtail Belly A mocktail (bartender's creation, since there's no mocktail menu) Food was fresh, well-prepared, and hit the spot. Solid choice if you're in the area.

Honestly, this was such a great spot! Went there for the first time and realized it was happy hour with loads of options. Our waitress Victoria was so nice too. We got a couple of maki rolls, their loaded tots, miso soup, house salad (amazing dressing), a signature roll, and the bulgogi yakisoba. All dishes were great! Really enjoyed the variety offered. Also, loved the atmosphere and warm vibes.

Amazing place to snag a seat on a Friday night. Wow is all I can say. The food is amazing and the drinks are top tier. The bartenders are knowledgeable and give good recommendations. Make sure to get the LARGE loaded tots to share because they're addicting.

I went with a friend on a Friday evening and had a great experience overall! The restaurant was decked out in Halloween decorations which we loved. We had the loco egg rolls which have chorizo, I've never had that combination and loved it! I also got the southern smoked ramen and my friend got the yakisoba. The only thing about my ramen was not impressed with are the eggs, even in the picture, their cook looks a bit off like they either overcooked or had them sitting a while. Another thing was we ordered diet Mexican Coke and was served flat about 3 times until the machine eventually worked. We thankfully had an attentive and great server that noticed they were flat and gave us a warning each time, and to let her know if they were flat. Because of her kindness and transparency it was no big deal, or else we would have been more hesitant to complain about them. I'd definitely come again.

This place is phenomenal! I was m town for a vid wrench and was not expecting anything super great. Luckily, my coworker suggest we try here and I admit I was blown away! In fact, it was so good I came here two nights in a row. The location is great with plenty of public parking down the street. The vibe is pretty hip and fits the food quite well. Both nights we shared several apps, and I ordered a sushi roll and a bowl of ramen. Everything that everyone had both nights was incredible! And on top of that, prices were great. I would definitely come here again, if ever back in the area.

This Asian-Tex fusion spot in the heart of the college scene (right between UNT & TWU) delivers big flavor and great vibes. The bao buns are soft, flavorful, and packed with variety, the fried rice hits every comfort-food note, and the cocktails are bold and fun--just the way we like them. Perfect for a casual bite, date night, or hanging with friends. We'll definitely be back!

Did not have "eat some freaking excellent sushi in denton" on my list. I have been well and humbled. We visited my brothers family and he took us here. Very attentive server who helped us choose between all the things. She gave great advice--we got the yellowtail belly for dessert. Lol Fun decor, comfortable, and a great place to spend the evening.

Overall, I really love Komodo. They really bring a unique spin to popular dishes. The menu is mainly Tapas style so bring some friends and try multiple tasty dishes! --Eat-- Rice Bowl- I've built my own bowl twice with bulgogi steak. I'd recommend getting your sauce on the side because both times were a little salty. I like the sweet garlic Thai sauce and cilantro lime crema. The rice has a lot of veggies in it which threw me off at first, but still enjoyable. Order extra meat. The original portion was not enough with the giant bowl of rice. Beef fajita roll- as someone who is not a sushi fan, I loved this unique spin! The roll consists of steak, rice, veggies- avocado, onion, red bell pepper, pico, and topped with chipotle aioli and chimichurri. Totchos- I'm obsessed with the pulled piggy and elote totchos. The pulled piggy has pork, queso, chipotle aioli, pico, and Korean BBQ sauce. The elote needs to become a permanent menu item. It brings corn to a new level. If you like crispy brussel sprouts...the crispy lemon soy brussel sprouts are INCREDIBLE. * --Drink-- Mango Sake- this was my first time trying sake. I thought it was refreshing. My friends were not fond of it. It's definitely an acquired taste. I probably won't get it again for the price unless I split it with a group. read more

I'm not sure how Denton produced 308 reviews that gave KL 4.5 stars. I was visiting my brother in Denton and saw the reviews and gave them a try. First the good, Acacia chardonnay by the glass as a house pour is a nice selection. As for the food/menu. The beef tataki was a seared tenderloin with pico and guacamole. That has no place on the menu at a sushi place, it throws of the flavor of anything else you eat. The meat was tough, it may have been seared by it wasn't seared right before I ordered it. Was chewy, cold, and had a bitter flavor to it. I didn't finish it, had half only because I was hungry. Had one bite and ordered a spicy tuna roll to help kill the flavor. The spicy tuna roll had so much cucumber in it I had to pick most of them out so it would taste acceptable. Most spicy tuna rolls I have had are made with avocado, not on this menu. I had salmon sushi also just to measure the freshness of their seafood. Not a fair test, it was a Monday, worst day for sushi freshness but considered it palatable. The bartender said the beef tataki was their favorite, should not have fallen for that. Please Denton, leave and go have sushi closer to Dallas. The rating on Yelp should never be there. it's a 3 to 3.5 at best. When you search sushi in Denton...Kroger and 7-11 show up. Not kidding. Guys, look up Keiichi in Denton. No reservations left in 2022 and it's September. They get the same score as Komodo Loco? Just silly. The place has character but needs a menu re-hall in my opinion. read more

Our go-to for sushi in DFW. Unique fusions and fantastic flavors. Service is sometimes slow, but our servers have always been pleasant and knowledgeable. The ambiance is upbeat, as well. Highly recommend if you're looking for something fun and out-of-the-box in DFW. Great to hang out on the Denton square after or grab a drink from a local bar and listen to live music...or indulge in craft coffee and dessert from a number of places within walking distance. read more

Consistently delicious! Their creative take on Asian food keeps every dish interesting and delicious. They have been so good about being safe during the pandemic. Omg my favorite sushi place! The food is so darn delicious and drinks are so good ! Great for date night - GNO - or even family dinners. You won't be disappointed!!! Parking is a little difficult but I didn't care - a little walking didn't hurt. Everything there is so fresh and I can't say it enough --- so delicious! I'm been visiting Denton for quite sometime but never try this place. For my experience this place shouldn't be the top three of Yelp best sushI in Denton. First of all this place isn't run by real Japanese sushi masters. The only reason I give a three stars is because they do have some good Japanese whiskeys. Denton always seems to be lacking for good Asian food, but THIS place is amazing. It is at least in part an "Asian fusion" restaurant, but the ramen and sushi are always fantastic quality. The dishes with Mexican influence have been delicious so far too!! I would go here every week if my wallet would let me- and while it is somewhat pricey you definitely get your moneys worth. I usually get to-go orders, but when I dine-in the staff has been amazing too. read more

Komodo Loco was established in 2016 by three local Denton boys with a passion for food. We're a nontraditional Japanese restaurant featuring a wide variety of dishes with Asian and Southwest flair, and while some folks might be tempted to call us a fusion place, we don't want to be too gimmicky. Instead, we say we provide fun, fresh meals that are innovative, delicious, and not too fussy -- a little something for everyone! And because we want Komodo Loco to be a place where you can hang out and enjoy the atmosphere just as much as you do our shareable tapas and specialty cocktails, we've put a lot of time and effort into cultivating good vibes around here. I have a gluten allergy and this place is so amazing with accommodating it. They have gluten free soy sauce for a lot of the recipes that require it. I'll be honest I get the pad Thai every single time I've gone but I have taken several people and they have tried various things on the menu and have had nothing but praise for the meals they ordered. I've also indulged in their macaron sandwiches that they have which, while pricy, are so worth it! The strawberry cheesecake is gluten free and so delicious. Definitely give it a try if you visit.

I recently visited this spot in downtown Denton, and from the moment I walked in, it had more of a pub-like or American restaurant vibe which wasn't too surprising. I had heard a lot of good things about their ramen, so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. The broth was non existent and overall flavor was just okay, nothing that I couldn't make instantly at home . I added chicken, which was also average. The blackened shrimp with Caesar salad, on the other hand, was a pleasant surprise. The shrimp were well-seasoned, and the overall dish worked nicely. I appreciated that our server was friendly and flexible, allowing us to make a few customizations to our order. While the sushi options didn't really appeal to me this time, I do plan to come back and try a few other items that caught my eye especially the Poké Bowl, the Komodo Tower, and maybe the Bayou Tower. Overall, not a bad experience. There's potential, and I'm curious to explore more of the menu on my next visit. read more

This place was a big part of my decision to move to Denton. I lived in San Francisco for 16 years and got used to really excellent Japanese food. Moving to TX, I was bummed about losing the cuisine. Komodo Loco is not only top notch ramen, but the service and ambiance is second to none. Music is always on point, the servers, bar tenders, and management are attentive and engaged, and there's rarely a wait. Special call out to Nate, who's style, conversation, and service are a huge part of what makes this place special. Do yourself a favor and try the signature cocktails; the Depeche Mule and Cowboy Bebop are personal favs. Also, if you're not drinking Sapporo with your ramen, you're doing it wrong. read more

I added some fresh spicy relish to it and it was amazing! I also had one of their signature cocktails that was really unique & good. One of the owners stopped by our table & told me they could customize some other menu items to avoid the meat/seafood for me. My husband had sushi and raved about it!
