The cure salmon dish. Good, kinda strange.
    Bryan W.

Good food and great happy hour. My wife and I stopped by during a visit to Denton's Halloween which is super cool, but I digress. The place is real homey and very approachable. We stopped in around 5pm and found they have happy hour which was a nice surprise. We ordered a few items off that menu, but also wanted to try some regular items as well. The tuna and krab cones were really nice and light. Perfect to share over drinks. We always get an order of escolar when we find it. It was nicely cut and scored which made for an excellent chew. The last item to arrive was salmon dish called the cure. It had nice, thick slices of salmon with torched skin over a bed of soba noodles. It was okay and kind of strange. The torch really did a number on the skin. I would have preferred and hot skillet sear since the torch left it bitter and dusty from the ash. We are glad we tried it but wouldn't get it again. The service was great. We never ran out of drinks and had no questions on the progress of our order. We will come back every time we visit Denton.

Was in town for a conference and used Yelp to scout out some nearby food options. Parking in the area is a bit tricky, but once you manage that, the walk around this little strip is easy and enjoyable. Lots of food and bar options nearby--it definitely has that small college town vibe (because it is one). I grabbed a seat at the bar and was greeted right away. Service was fast and friendly, which I appreciated since I was on a time crunch. I probably wouldn't return just because I'd want to explore other places if I'm ever back in town, but this spot did the job. What I ordered: Veg Out Roll Smoked Yellowtail Belly A mocktail (bartender's creation, since there's no mocktail menu) Food was fresh, well-prepared, and hit the spot. Solid choice if you're in the area.

Amazing place to snag a seat on a Friday night. Wow is all I can say. The food is amazing and the drinks are top tier. The bartenders are knowledgeable and give good recommendations. Make sure to get the LARGE loaded tots to share because they're addicting.

I went with a friend on a Friday evening and had a great experience overall! The restaurant was decked out in Halloween decorations which we loved. We had the loco egg rolls which have chorizo, I've never had that combination and loved it! I also got the southern smoked ramen and my friend got the yakisoba. The only thing about my ramen was not impressed with are the eggs, even in the picture, their cook looks a bit off like they either overcooked or had them sitting a while. Another thing was we ordered diet Mexican Coke and was served flat about 3 times until the machine eventually worked. We thankfully had an attentive and great server that noticed they were flat and gave us a warning each time, and to let her know if they were flat. Because of her kindness and transparency it was no big deal, or else we would have been more hesitant to complain about them. I'd definitely come again.

This Asian-Tex fusion spot in the heart of the college scene (right between UNT & TWU) delivers big flavor and great vibes. The bao buns are soft, flavorful, and packed with variety, the fried rice hits every comfort-food note, and the cocktails are bold and fun--just the way we like them. Perfect for a casual bite, date night, or hanging with friends. We'll definitely be back!

Favorite sushi spot in Denton. Not one bad thing to order off this menu. Our servers are always super friendly and helpful. You have got to try the salon belly!

Did not have "eat some freaking excellent sushi in denton" on my list. I have been well and humbled. We visited my brothers family and he took us here. Very attentive server who helped us choose between all the things. She gave great advice--we got the yellowtail belly for dessert. Lol Fun decor, comfortable, and a great place to spend the evening.

Omg we love Komodo loco! When I pass by here just being in denton, I can just dream of eating the deviled eggs * drool* you can tell the quality of sushi is great. Brought some cousins from cali here and they were in love! The vibes are cool, it's a bit dark but it's worth it!

I felt compelled to leave a review after reading a rather ridiculous one. My boyfriend and I are a bit of foodies and love trying new restaurants, rarely coming back to the same restaurant twice. However, Komodo has become one of our regular spots because YALL ITS THAT GOOD! The food is phenomenal, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, the vibes are great, and it's clean. Reviews should be based on the quality of food and service, not minuscule details that had no impact on your dining experience. Before publishing something online, we should all think to ourselves, "is this helpful? Is this kind?", if the answer isn't yes to both, then don't post it. The restaurant industry is challenging enough and patrons shouldn't be picking apart irrelevant details and then leaving bad reviews because of it. This is someone's livelihood and that shouldn't be taken lightly. The world would be a lot better of a place if we were all more thoughtful with the words we speak and post. Kyle--we love Komodo and I'm already craving the bluefin crudo again! Can't wait to come back!!

What was left of the roasted peppers before we finished them off
    Jason J.

Great little place just off the main roads. It looks a little divey from that outside, but is clean and comfortable on the inside. Our service was excellent and everyone was incredibly friendly. We had the roasted brussels sprouts as well as the roasted peppers for appetizers and both were delicious. I had the southern smoked Ramen with extra spice added. It was excellent, and the spice level was perfect for me. Others had the sushi, which they really enjoyed. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area

This place is phenomenal! I was m town for a vid wrench and was not expecting anything super great. Luckily, my coworker suggest we try here and I admit I was blown away! In fact, it was so good I came here two nights in a row. The location is great with plenty of public parking down the street. The vibe is pretty hip and fits the food quite well. Both nights we shared several apps, and I ordered a sushi roll and a bowl of ramen. Everything that everyone had both nights was incredible! And on top of that, prices were great. I would definitely come here again, if ever back in the area.

    AI generated slop
    Cornbread C.

One of the best asian places in Denton. With a fresh twist on asian food it's easily one of the better restaurants just off the square. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service is excellent. But I gotta take off the stars because the owner uses AI generated images as decoration. It's distractingly bad and in a city with two art universities I'm stunned that the owner doesn't highlight some local talent instead. I highly recommend this place and would otherwise give it 5 stars.

We had a reservation, which is recommended because the restaurant was very busy on a Saturday night in May. We opted to sit on the patio because the weather was gorgeous. I am not sure if the patio is climate controlled in the summer or not. But on that night we were there, the weather was mild so it was very pleasant. They have happy hour on Saturdays so I started with an IPA on tap and the wife had a Prosecco, also for happy hour prices. This is a tapas restaurant so I will try to remember all that we had. Manchego cheese board: excellent. The crisps and jam were perfect with the cheese. Potato torilla: excellent. The flavors melded very well and it was very tasty. It's filling so keep that in mind. Ceviche de jalapeno: excellent. Not too spicy, the shrimp and seafood was fresh with no fishy smell. The plantains were cooked perfectly, not greasy. Brisket on crostini: excellent. Forget the name but they are a winner. Brisket is good quality and the flavors come together nicely. Chicken skewer: excellent. They smartly use chicken thighs so the meat is juicy and tender. Tuna tartare: good. It actually was my least favorite. The quality was very good but it did not have much flavor. I needed some heat, some acid, something to give it a kick. We were absolutely stuffed and did not try dessert. Our server Marcellus was excellent. Very helpful and pleasant throughout. He never disappeared for too long. Overall, we had a great meal and will undoubtedly return here again.

We arrived early and grabbed pre-dinner cocktails on the patio, which honestly set the tone for the evening. The fire pit tables + evening atmosphere were perfect. We kept it classic with Old Fashioneds and martinis, and both were very well executed. Simple, balanced, and clearly made by someone who knows what they're doing. There was also a blueberry graham cracker cocktail (can't remember the name, unfortunately) that was surprisingly delicious and easily could've been dessert in a glass. The tasting itself was an 8-course menu and absolutely incredible. Since this was a one-night pop-up, I won't go into detail on the food, but every course was thoughtful, creative, and genuinely delicious. One of those meals where you're excited for the next plate the second the last one's cleared. Service really stood out. The team was attentive without hovering, cleaned up seamlessly between courses, and made sure our drinks were never empty. They also offered solid wine pairings that complemented the menu really well and elevated the experience overall. One extra thing that really sealed it for me: after dinner, the second chef Taylor and the owner/manager Tanner came over and hung out with us for a bit. As someone who's a bit of a foodie nerd, I genuinely appreciate when chefs and operators take the time to talk food, concepts, and the thought behind the menu. It made the experience feel personal and intentional, not just transactional. If this pop-up is any indication of what Rye is capable of, it's definitely a place worth returning to. She was friendly and knowledgeable about all aspects of the preparations. Executive Chef Taylor Rause was frequently in the dining room, too, assisting in service and in explanations, sometimes tying the food back to personal experiences, which was delightful to hear and understand. The overarching theme of ancient grains permeated the entire tasting menu, creating a delicious and unifying thread. The small courses ranged from good to outstanding. Standouts for us were a pavé of celery root and green apple with a spelt crisp, a tiny masa tortilla stuffed with turkey chorizo, and a stunningly smoky wagyu spinalis with an unbelievable Bordelaise. A couple dishes missed those high marks a tad, such as a chicken leg with an einkorn biscuit that was light on flavor and a bit under-seasoned. All of us likewise felt the desserts lacked some of the same uniqueness of the previous plates. But these are small quibbles in an otherwise memorable experience that was capped by a brief visit to the kitchen, a good chance to wholeheartedly thank Chef Rause and Chef de Cuisine Jay Vopatek for a great night. High recommended.

We had already read the Yelp reviews and sort of knew what we wanted. Two of us shared: - Margarita rocks - Pan con Tomate - Crispy Pork - Jerk Chicken Paella The Pan con Tomate was amazing. Really cool presentation too. The Crispy Pork was real nice. A bit dry due to making it crispy. Really meaty too. The Jerk Chicken Paella was great. Cheyenne told us the jerk seasoning wasn't very spicy. She was right. I would have liked it spicier though but understand the decision to appeal to a broader section of diners. The socarrat was amazing. They make the paella in a small (8"?) cast iron skillet. It made for a perfect caramelization of the rice (socarrat). The dish had jerk seasoned chicken thighs and vegetables. Yum! I would have loved to have the Coconut Cake. But we were full and it was $22.
