Very cute place that is great for dates! The food here is fusion between Asian and Mexican of course - hence the loco in the name. I have to agree with other reviews that the ramen was pretty subpar. It was completely bland. No amount of chili oil or soy sauce could help it. Fortunately if you avoid the ramen, there are still other great items on the menu. For instance, the ninja tots are soooooo tasty. I was very happy with how those came out presentation and taste wise. My entree of the sashimi salad was also pretty great. Thick chunks of salmon, tuna, and yellowtail with pretty fresh greens and softboiled egg. Those eggs were perfect in my date's bowl of ramen too. If only they could improve their ramen broth here, I'd give them 5 stars, because the service was also great. The ramen was the only thing I was upset about but even then everything else was so great. I think it helps that I luckily wasn't the one that ordered ramen. My date would have given a lower rating since he got stuck with a bad choice. read more

Love this place! I'm not a fan of raw sushi so their choices for shrimp and veggie sushi are perfect for me. We had shrimp tempura which I love because of its light breading. Then we had the Komodo Cali roll and Loco Dagon roll. Both were well presented and delicious. All this for about $30 and we were fulfilled. Service was fast and friendly. Great staff. I will say it was a tuesday and it was slow so everyone was sitting at the bar. I thought they were regulars, no worries but it was the staff. I had to look around for a menu before they finally got one. Staff was friendly but i told one waiter it was my first time and thats where he left me. I ordered the shrimp bowl. For $12 it was rather small in portion. The steamed white rice was cold but the dish had flavor. My order took 15-20 minutes, maybe a bit too long for sauteed veg and a plate of rice. I want to try this place again but we will see. (Lived in denton for over 20 years and have seen better prices=portion even in dallas) As a culinarian i would suggest to take 30 seconds and talk about or introduce a new customer to your place. read more

This was so, so disappointing. I've been waiting for this place to open for months, thinking there would be ramen and dumplings - something Denton lacks. I was surprised to find a sushi-focused menu that's only unique points were downright weird. I don't understand the tator tot dishes. The layer of cheese at the bottom of the container doesn't meld with the Asian flavorings on top. Each bite was overwhelming with things, but underwhelming with flavor. The high point was the tuna nachos - such a great idea but too much sauce that covered the taste of fresh ahi tuna. The rolls are overpriced for what they are: poorly rolled, unevenly distributed inside and the rice isn't sticky enough to hold it together. I hope they can redo the menu to truly be decent Asian fusion instead of just another over-priced, mediocre sushi bar. read more

This Asian/Mexican fusion joint has a unique salad and appetizer selection (recommend the loco eggrolls), the sushi is fresh to def, and their ramen game is on point (Southern Smoke, rare steak.) I'll start with the fact that I am a HUGE sushi lover. So seeing these reviews, I got excited. I've never been here before and I was ready to try some damn good sushi. However, when we got there, it was super hot with fans everywhere. Like I'm not sure why you are skimping on AC in Texas. But whatever, I love sushi too much to let this deter me. The menu is super small. I usually like a variety but that's a personal preference. We order 2 apps and 2 sushi items (one raw and one cooked) so we could figure it what we liked best and order more accordingly. There was only one thing I liked, and that was the fried chicken bao. That shit was delicious and the ONLY reason this place got another star. Otherwise, everything was SUPER over priced for sub standard food. We got one of the tots and it was alright but it was NINE dollars for just tator tots with some sauce. Really???? And the sushi itself was not fresh. The roll we didn't even finish and the (basically ahi) tower we forced down cause we were hungry. We didn't order anything else and we were extremely disappointed in the food. So sad :( read more

I got my food to-go, being that I arrived 20-25 mins before they were about to close. I ordered the "Spicy Salmon Roll" and a "Komodo Cali Roll". The spicy salmon wasn't the best, it was ok. It was put together quickly because it was falling apart and some pieces had more in the inside than others. I wouldn't order it again. The komodo cali was alright, it was way better with soy sauce. My waiter was very nice. I didn't catch his name, but he was great. He was behind the bar. In all I give this place 3 stars because the spicy salmon could have been better. My husband and I came here after I had a craving for sushi.. based on previous yelp reviews we were excited to try it out. The environment inside was nice and bright, which I really enjoyed, perfect for lunch time. We happened to go during happy hour which was nice- half off of apps. I ordered the veggie gyozas and my husband ordered ordered the kimchi dragon eggs and fun guys -tempura mushrooms, we also got a chicken bowl for our one year old which he loved. I was nervous about the dipping sauce for the gyozas it was a spicy orange sauce.. I hate spicy but this sauce was amazing!! It kept me going back for more I ate all six pieces! I also got an order of California roll, and the loco dragon roll and my husband got spicy tuna. The loco dragon roll was little too rich for my preference; however due to being pregnant and having a sushi craving I was already limited to what I could eat already. Overall everything was good. We would go back for the happy hour appetizers. read more

I recently move from out of state and was looking to having sushi all day. Arrived at 5, so before the Friday night crowd hit. It was early so not a lot of people yet. We were seated in the very back all alone. Nothing to even look at but brick walls. We received our waters and gave our appetizer order right when we were seated. Then we waited...in the back...all alone...hot with standing fan blowing in...ran out of water...about 20 min later. Placed our order and got that delivered in about 10 min. The food was really good, and I would come back if the service was better. We left and it was still pretty dead on the other tables. Word of advice, unless you are packed, don't put people back in that tiny (4 tables only) little brick room. They get bored and you forget they are back there. read more

Went on a weeknight and the service was good. Went on a Friday night and the service was sssslllllooooowwwww. I felt so bad for the table next to us that waited and waited for food that I almost tried to give them some of our food when it finally came! The ramen was sad - the broth had no flavor. Ordered ramen, salad and gyoza from food delivery service. The worst, most flavorless ramen (or any soup for that matter) I've ever had in my life. Literally ZERO flavor-terribly overpriced for water with some flavorless noodles and veggies. Salad dressing was also just ok. The gyoza was pretty good though. Food was just NOT good and even if you account for time of delivery/temperature changes/fees and prices that can negatively affect the quality/price of a restaurant meal ordered via delivery versus on site, Komodo was definitively marked off our "got to try" list after this disappointing meal. Maybe their sushi is better? But doubtful considering how lackluster and flavorless something as simple as the ramen was. Seriously, I've had better and more satisfying bowls of Top Ramen. Total bummer. On the plus side-the packing and presentation for delivery was really nicely put together. Ramen looked delicious and beautiful with brightly colored veggies.... It was my and my boyfriends first time here and we were amazed! The bartender Samantha was fantastic and the food was just as great. I've been craving some ramen so we decided to try it out... My friend and I went here on a Monday night around 8:30. We sat at the bar. The restaurant was pretty dead- we started with some sake and chorizo egg rolls, which were delicious. I ordered the chicken fried rice bowl. The chicken had a lot of flavor but the rice itself was a little dry. For a place that makes you choose which sauce you want, there was a really depressing lack of sauce. My friend got a sushi roll which she said was delicious. But I would go eat there again- if not for the bartender. I'm not really one to judge based on clothing choices but for a place pretending to be a little uppity I was surprised to see the bartenders cheeks hanging out. Not only that, but she was cackling very loud with the other stuff and screaming "fuck you" and "go fuck yourself" left and right at her coworkers. I'm happy they were having a grand old time but my friend and I were kind of incredibly put off by her behavior. All in all, if you're gonna eat here, order take out. As my friend said "the only roll I wanted to see there was my sushi roll." So, not the bartender's ass. read more

My daughter and I visited here for the first time today. I loved the atmosphere. I wasn't sure what to expect since it is essentially in an alley, but the interior was interesting. We both had miso soup, which was very good. My daughter had a ramen noodle bowl with steak, which she said was also very good. She liked that she could put as much spice as she wanted in it. I had the dragon razor hamachi, which was incredibly good. We also shared a dragon fire roll. She decided to save a couple of pieces for her boyfriend, and it took all of the control I had not to eat those last two pieces. The prices were reasonable for the fare. read more
