Komodo Loco in Denton is one of those places that just gets the balance right--great food, fun vibe, and something a little different from the usual spots around the Square. The Asian-Latin fusion menu is creative without being weird about it. The sushi rolls are packed with flavor, the ingredients taste fresh, and everything feels thoughtfully put together. It's the kind of place where you go in planning to try one thing and end up wanting to come back to work your way through the menu. The atmosphere is laid-back and lively, perfect for grabbing a casual dinner or drinks with friends. Staff is friendly. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Denton and want something a little more interesting than the standard Tex-Mex lineup.

Great food!! Great service!! I've never eaten anything here I didn't order again. Highly recommend, and Komodo is even great for those who don't eat sushi. Piggy Tots are soooo delicious!!

Good food and great happy hour. My wife and I stopped by during a visit to Denton's Halloween which is super cool, but I digress. The place is real homey and very approachable. We stopped in around 5pm and found they have happy hour which was a nice surprise. We ordered a few items off that menu, but also wanted to try some regular items as well. The tuna and krab cones were really nice and light. Perfect to share over drinks. We always get an order of escolar when we find it. It was nicely cut and scored which made for an excellent chew. The last item to arrive was salmon dish called the cure. It had nice, thick slices of salmon with torched skin over a bed of soba noodles. It was okay and kind of strange. The torch really did a number on the skin. I would have preferred and hot skillet sear since the torch left it bitter and dusty from the ash. We are glad we tried it but wouldn't get it again. The service was great. We never ran out of drinks and had no questions on the progress of our order. We will come back every time we visit Denton.

Was in town for a conference and used Yelp to scout out some nearby food options. Parking in the area is a bit tricky, but once you manage that, the walk around this little strip is easy and enjoyable. Lots of food and bar options nearby--it definitely has that small college town vibe (because it is one). I grabbed a seat at the bar and was greeted right away. Service was fast and friendly, which I appreciated since I was on a time crunch. I probably wouldn't return just because I'd want to explore other places if I'm ever back in town, but this spot did the job. What I ordered: Veg Out Roll Smoked Yellowtail Belly A mocktail (bartender's creation, since there's no mocktail menu) Food was fresh, well-prepared, and hit the spot. Solid choice if you're in the area.

Honestly, this was such a great spot! Went there for the first time and realized it was happy hour with loads of options. Our waitress Victoria was so nice too. We got a couple of maki rolls, their loaded tots, miso soup, house salad (amazing dressing), a signature roll, and the bulgogi yakisoba. All dishes were great! Really enjoyed the variety offered. Also, loved the atmosphere and warm vibes.

Amazing place to snag a seat on a Friday night. Wow is all I can say. The food is amazing and the drinks are top tier. The bartenders are knowledgeable and give good recommendations. Make sure to get the LARGE loaded tots to share because they're addicting.

I went with a friend on a Friday evening and had a great experience overall! The restaurant was decked out in Halloween decorations which we loved. We had the loco egg rolls which have chorizo, I've never had that combination and loved it! I also got the southern smoked ramen and my friend got the yakisoba. The only thing about my ramen was not impressed with are the eggs, even in the picture, their cook looks a bit off like they either overcooked or had them sitting a while. Another thing was we ordered diet Mexican Coke and was served flat about 3 times until the machine eventually worked. We thankfully had an attentive and great server that noticed they were flat and gave us a warning each time, and to let her know if they were flat. Because of her kindness and transparency it was no big deal, or else we would have been more hesitant to complain about them. I'd definitely come again.

This place is phenomenal! I was m town for a vid wrench and was not expecting anything super great. Luckily, my coworker suggest we try here and I admit I was blown away! In fact, it was so good I came here two nights in a row. The location is great with plenty of public parking down the street. The vibe is pretty hip and fits the food quite well. Both nights we shared several apps, and I ordered a sushi roll and a bowl of ramen. Everything that everyone had both nights was incredible! And on top of that, prices were great. I would definitely come here again, if ever back in the area.

This Asian-Tex fusion spot in the heart of the college scene (right between UNT & TWU) delivers big flavor and great vibes. The bao buns are soft, flavorful, and packed with variety, the fried rice hits every comfort-food note, and the cocktails are bold and fun--just the way we like them. Perfect for a casual bite, date night, or hanging with friends. We'll definitely be back!

Did not have "eat some freaking excellent sushi in denton" on my list. I have been well and humbled. We visited my brothers family and he took us here. I'm from Dallas, where there's legit food everywhere. This ish is boo boo. Don't waste your money here. We ordered steak ramen, a dragon fire roll, and an order each of the kimchi and pulled pork totchos. Couldn't even eat the ramen because their noodles were so overcooked they just tasted like bland mush. The kimchi totchos were alright at best and the sushi was nothin to write home about either. $40 wasted. read more

This place was a lot of fun. The staff were very friendly and knowledgable about the food and drink selection. I honestly didn't have anything I didn't like. Really interesting selections. I will be back for sure really cool location too access to lots of Denton's best. The food has really gone down hill. I ordered a rice bowl that honestly tasted like a microwave dinner, overcooked and drenched in sauce. We sent a lot of food back, I didn't complain but found it strange we were never asked how the food was. Service was not very attentive. read more

Komodo loco....well if they get their fish from Komodo then that would explain how slow the service was!!! First the not so good.....My son and I had our Daddy/Son date and maybe it was a busy night but we got our appetizer (Miso) after the entrees were served! The server said they were busy, but being a server once it does not take 20 minutes for a cup of miso. So maybe he was in the weeds or maybe he just smoked some weed but the server and staff was nice atleast. That being said, the food was great and fresh. We had the Dragon Razor which was on point and the tuna tower was a master piece....I usually judge the chef by a spicy roll and although it was a bit anemic, it was tasty!!! So all and all, great food and service was ok, but then afain it could have been the server and night (was there at 7:30 on Friday, so maybe go a different time) read more

Dinner was Fantastic! We enjoyed spicy edamame, brussel sprouts, and dumplings for our starters. Everything was amazing and we were super excited for the main courses. We were not disappointed! We had pork belly bao, fajita roll, pork tatchos, smoky ramen and the yellow tail sashimi. Wow! Everything was outstanding, we will definitely be back again. Okay, I am obsessed! The fish they use for their sushi is absolute quality. Trust me, you wont find any sushi place in Denton that has better fish. Also, the portions that Komodo Loco serves are perfect and you might end up with left overs. Cocktails are great, desserts are great and service is great. After moving to Denton from Dallas 5 years ago I was really missing good Sushi. This place is by far the best place in Denton. The fish was fresh, the bar is full service which is rare for a Sushi bar. We tried a variety of things and all were outstanding. Nathan was our server and he was top notch. We got to meet the new owners and they were very engaged and wanted to know what we liked or disliked. Overall a great experience. Prices were fair and portion sizes were perfect. Can't wait to go back. read more

There aren't too many ramen places out in Denton, so seeing this had me excited. I really wanted this to be a new spot to return to, unfortunately it didn't fill that need. The ramen was a bit disappointing, when it was brought out the server instructed to use either the seasoning sauce, but not too much as it would change the flavor, and use the spices to my taste. The broth was very lacking even with the sauce (which is weird I've never used sauce with ramen...thought I was eating Pho). The spice was decent. The saving grace was the eggs which were soft boiled almost flawlessly and the chashu pork, which was grilled to perfction and so so tender. I'll try it again but not anytime soon sorry! read more

When here from out of town, I went 2 nights in a row because there was more I had to try. 1st night I had the mean green and horashio's bayou sushi rolls. They were both awesome. Second night we had the pulled piggy tots, dragon fire roll, and sashimi combo. All were excellent. I will be back. Definitely one of my go to spots in Denton. read more

Service is great, we had Nathan as our waiter. The kimono dragon deviled eggs are sooooo good! They have a limited selection of fish since they keep the freshest available. We tried the unagi that was off the menu for today, and it was excellent. The only disappointment was the sushi rice. It was bland, not enough sugar and vinegar added. Also the rice to fish ratio was really off. I like my nigiri for the great combo, and they just didn't meet the standard for it tonight. We also had the komodo sour, which is their take on a rye whiskey sour. It was sweet spicy and refreshing. I would go back to see if the sushi rice improved. read more

My wife and I went in and weren't very impressed. We like trying new places especially ones with as many positive reviews as Komodo Loco has. Unfortunately, we didn't have that great of an experience. Each item we received was dripping in grease. Our tots literally had a bowl of grease at the bottom. The rice bowl was the same. Our drinks took a very long time to get to us and then we never got a refill. It was busy so I understand it's hard to juggle a million things to do. I'm not complaining in any way, just saying I can't recommend it as the food was well below par, especially given the price point. read more

On our first evening in Denton we went here starving, hoping for quick food. We were not disappointed. Komodo Loco supplied an amazing fusion of MexicanJapanese food that went boom in our mouths. The egg rolls were fantastic, the buns were amazing (pulled pork in particular), and the fire roll was crunchy and tasty. The Sashimi salad was just okay. Not bad. I've traveled near and far in my life. I've met some amazing people, and some amazingly horrible people in my day, but no one holds a candle to the person I met today at Komodo Loco when it comes to top shelf service with a smile! He said his name was Nate, but I would call him Sir. This man not only new the menu better than he knew himself, but he brought me my food in such a wonderful manner that I ate every last bit with a smile on my face so wide you'd think it was the Mississippi River. I believe his service alone was enough to make this amazing food taste even better, and subsequently easier to digest allowed me to experience a better B.M. which made my day less stressful. I say thank you to Komodo Loco for having allowing Nate to shine as bright as he did for me that day. Stay gold Nate, stay gold. Cheers! read more

First timers and we can't wait to go back. Not a single bad food or cocktail choice was made by our table of 6. From menu staples like shishito peppers, edamame and a seaweed salad to exciting and fresh takes on lettuce wraps (bulgogi), the poke block and dragon eggs (deviled eggs kicked up a notch with kimchi and bacon) Komodo has a great answer for every hungry question. Priced below what you would normally pay for a dining experience at this level, this is a cant miss. Komodo Loco takes dining in Denton into rarified air. What Queenie's is to carnivores, Komodo Loco is to the sushi/ramen aficionado. It took us a year to make our way through the door under the glowing red light on Oakland street, it won't take more than a week do it again. read more

This is by far one of the best places I have been too in Denton!!!! The ramen is spot on, the service is superb. Nathan was our waiter, and did an amazing job. The chef came to our table and mixed our Komodo house tower;it was so great. Met with two of the owners Mika and Kyle, both are super nice, we had a wonderful chat. They truest care about making their restaurant a great experience. The saki selection is hands down the best I have seen in Denton area. Be sure to try the Kurosawa. If you like Japanese cuisine you have got to check this place out!!!!! Very fun Japanese American fusion. We will be back!!!! read more

Komodo Loco was established in 2016 by three local Denton boys with a passion for food. We're a nontraditional Japanese restaurant featuring a wide variety of dishes with Asian and Southwest flair, and while some folks might be tempted to call us a fusion place, we don't want to be too gimmicky. Instead, we say we provide fun, fresh meals that are innovative, delicious, and not too fussy -- a little something for everyone! And because we want Komodo Loco to be a place where you can hang out and enjoy the atmosphere just as much as you do our shareable tapas and specialty cocktails, we've put a lot of time and effort into cultivating good vibes around here. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride -- it may be a little wild, but we kinda like it that way.

Wish we had looked a litte harder on this selection. We thought it was a chicken Alfredo. So this is defintley packed with cheese, more of a Mac and cheese bake. Everything was good! The john McClain was a bit too much for me with the egg but happy was able to try it! I would love to come back and try more off the menu!

I recently visited this spot in downtown Denton, and from the moment I walked in, it had more of a pub-like or American restaurant vibe which wasn't too surprising. I had heard a lot of good things about their ramen, so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the hype for me. The broth was non existent and overall flavor was just okay, nothing that I couldn't make instantly at home . I added chicken, which was also average. The blackened shrimp with Caesar salad, on the other hand, was a pleasant surprise. The shrimp were well-seasoned, and the overall dish worked nicely. I appreciated that our server was friendly and flexible, allowing us to make a few customizations to our order. While the sushi options didn't really appeal to me this time, I do plan to come back and try a few other items that caught my eye especially the Poké Bowl, the Komodo Tower, and maybe the Bayou Tower. Overall, not a bad experience. There's potential, and I'm curious to explore more of the menu on my next visit. read more

This place was a big part of my decision to move to Denton. I lived in San Francisco for 16 years and got used to really excellent Japanese food. Moving to TX, I was bummed about losing the cuisine. Komodo Loco is not only top notch ramen, but the service and ambiance is second to none. Music is always on point, the servers, bar tenders, and management are attentive and engaged, and there's rarely a wait. Special call out to Nate, who's style, conversation, and service are a huge part of what makes this place special. Do yourself a favor and try the signature cocktails; the Depeche Mule and Cowboy Bebop are personal favs. Also, if you're not drinking Sapporo with your ramen, you're doing it wrong. read more

I LOVE this place! The food, drinks, service & atmosphere were great! I'm vegetarian so I ordered the ramen soup with tofu and it was was fantastic! I added some fresh spicy relish to it and it was amazing! I also had one of their signature cocktails that was really unique & good. One of the owners stopped by our table & told me they could customize some other menu items to avoid the meat/seafood for me. My husband had sushi and raved about it! We live in Austin, but plan on coming back next time we visit Denton! Austin needs a Komodo Loco!!! read more
