Komorebi was actually my third choice after after unsuccessful attempts to dine elsewhere. I'm not a believer of fate, but I'm glad I found my way here. Perhaps it was slightly due to low expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was mostly empty which is usually not a good sign. To be fair, we walked shortly after they opened for the day. I loathe imitation crab, generally avoid cream cheese and I don't think fruit belongs in sushi. The friendly server made recommendations after I informed her of my aversions. Everything was spot on. The Mafia roll was probably my favorite. The tuna was so fresh and the rice held together nicely. Any sushi chef will tell you the rice is the most important component of maki or nigiri. I've only been once, so I'll have to try again. so many great reviews but I'm honestly disappointed :( the sushi took some time to come out which I guess made sense because there was a lot of people... but the sushi was mid.. tasted like ayce sushi quality which is unfortunate., and the rolls literally one end had no fish it was just rice (blurry pic in my review oops) and there was another end that was just avocado when it was salmon avocado.. felt a little skimped on. This is one of my absolute favorite sushi spots in the city and has quickly become in staple for delivery in my home. For the price point, the value simply can not be beat. The sheer amount of options for maki, plus offering a maki combo, makes sure that you'll never have to break the bank to eat here. Let's put it this way, they made no mistakes - fishes were good quality, portion was decent, service was quick and attentive,price was reasonable, decor was modern and cozy. Miso soup and the salad/dressing are both stand out, just great versions of what they should be. The Rollapalooza is another favorite and I get it with every order. Really good and it travels well. We've done a few COVID deliveries and it's been great each time. The only item we've been disappointed by are the lettuce wraps which we felt were just overpriced and nothing special. But normally I go for a tuna roll, salmon avocado roll, and the mafia roll. The mafia roll is great and unique. I hadn't seen black sushi rice before but it works really well and I love the combination of fish. The tuna on top adds an extra layer to the dish as well. The tuna roll proves the fish is very high quality as it's light, smooth, flavorful, all the things you love about sushi. And I felt it was all reasonably priced. This restaurant is TERRIBLE. As someone who eats sushi literally about 2 times a week....I asked that the hamachi hand roll has the fish chopped up. (this was a delivery order that I called very early so it was not like they were busy and they just opened). The manager lady called me to say WE CAN NOT CUT UP the sushi for the hand roll and will just put in 1 piece of fish. I thought maybe she did not understand the simple request. She said we do not cut up the fish for hand rolls. She was VERY RUDE and hung up on me and cancelled my order! What a great place to visit in wicker park. It is a great place to go for a date the space and ambiance are mellow with some good music at the perfect volume in the background. We went for valentines. The ingredients are high quality and the flavors are perfectly mixed. Food: 1) calamari salad - well proportioned with an Asian inspected dressing. The calamari were tender which I feel like is difficult to find. 2) shumai - perfect little dumplings with a soft wrapper. The shrimp were well done and they really showed the perfect flavor of the shrimp. 3) uni shooter - it comes in a large shot glass almost too large for the uni. But it is an interesting way to get a shot of uni 4) Baked Sake Roulade - interesting dish with crab rolled in salmon. It says baked but it's not really warm. It has a nice char on the salmon and then melts in your mouth. I'd be happy eating this by the pound. 5) Snow White - specialty roll. A mash up of fried soft shell crab and king crab wrapped in a soybean sheet and a thin film of rice. The soft shell crab gives a nice crunch and of course the flavors are awesome. 6) Tequila - specialty roll. A Hispanic fusion type roll. Tuba an yellow tail with some cilantro and lime. A jalapeño gives a tiny bit of spice. It's a light roll and the fish absolutely melted in your mouth We loved every dish. We will be back. read more

I think my 'love affair' with Komorebi is over even before it started. Whilst, we've only been here thrice in the last 4-5 months, we've been a little let down compared to the previous visit. This last visit this past Friday was when I decided to 'break up' and move on. Here's the good, the bad and the ugly. Good : BYO, take reservations, street parking (hit or miss), across from a Jewel (if you forget to BYO), good miso soup, good variety for vegetarians Bad: They get busy on the weekends, fish portions are small; they are expensive Ugly: They (sushi chefs and servers both) get overwhelmed when they get busy as was evident on our most recent visit. Place was definitely packed (no denying); however it took over an hour for some of our food to arrive. It took another 20-30 min for the rest of the food to arrive; rolls were extremely disappointing and made in a hurry with very little fish. To add insult, they added 18% gratuity for terrible service which they did remove once I inquired if they thought they deserved 18%. Having eaten a lot of sushi across Chicago and with the majority being BYO, I am sadly not going to return here. PS: the pics with my review are from our first visit. We started with the house salad (it was very good but just had way too much dressing), the miso soup, and the uni nigiris (very fresh and golden in color!). Then we over ordered. I saw this on the menu and thought it sounded great: Sushi Supreme [43] - Chef's choice of 10pcs of nigiri, rainbow roll, and dragon roll. I asked the server how many pieces of rainbow roll and dragon roll came with this entree and the server responded "it's a full roll, 8 pieces". I interpreted that as 4 pieces of rainbow roll and 4 pieces of dragon roll. We ended up ordering 2 orders of the Sushi Supreme and was super surprised that each came with: 1. 2 salmon nigiri 2. 2 tuna nigiri 3. 2 albacore tuna nigiri 4. 2 sea bass nigiri 5. 2 escolar nigiri (had specifically asked for no escolar but the chef forgot, in replacement got 2 more salmon nigiri) 6. 1 full dragon roll (8 pieces!) 7. 1 full rainbow roll (8 pieces!) Yes! Ordered 2 of the above for only 2 people. Definitely made an impression with the staff and the guests in the table next to us. The service and food were great. Komorebi has become a favorite of mine; easy to meet up on our way home from work. Typically we start out with garlic edamame while we peruse the rest of the menu. It's garlicky and a little spicy, which I love. We've tried some of the sashimi plates, this time the yellowtail jalapeno, but usually sick to rolls. They have a nice assortment of rolls; we usually attempt to get at least one new selection each visit. The fish quality and presentation have never disappointed. My only disappointment is that this place is closed on Sundays. Every time we think about ordering for delivery, it's Sunday. TIP: BYOB read more

Update: So I NEEDED to come back on here since I've gotten a chance to dine in a few times and finally tried a mozzarella roll. There's a few different mozzarella rolls on the menu but I can say that the one we tried (dynamite) was bomb... I could not stop eating it. There's just something about oven cooked rolls that I cannot get enough of. This one comes with super white tuna and scallops on top. Also got to try the spicy tataki - this one is literally on fire! On the spicier side too! My favorite is still the baked sake roulade (salmon wrapped king crab). Again, oven baked... Meguan was refreshing with the mango! Honey miso and chili paste gave it a kick. Surprisingly we all really loved the dragon roll from here, so fresh and flavorful that you would not get tired of eating this. Even before the apocalypse began, I was on the prowl for quality Sushi in Chicago. I think we finally found just that at Komorebi. Due to the unfortunate events of the end of the world, I have not been able to dine at this wonderful establishment. However, the dashers of doors now gift me this delicious sushi once a week. If you really want the soothing taste of the ocean to melt in your mouth, I recommend the shrimp dumplings. I can devour 16 of them in one sitting! My wife and I love sushi but finding good vegetarian sushi options that are tasty and have variety is surprisingly still difficult in the city. After stumbling across Komorebi accidentally, we now call this our favorite sushi place in all of Chicago. Their menu options are all delicious and the unique varieties they have are amazing. So much better than the standard avocado rolls that other places provide. Also they are BYOB, which was a huge perk in the summer. I look forward to going here again after the pandemic is over to enjoy some sushi in the summertime. In the meantime, delivery still work and it is just as tasty. read more

It's not often Komerebi throws up a dud, but tonight was it. The quality of the rolls was poor in how they were put together and cut. The fish and toppings were just laid on top and fell off when picking up the rolls. The tuna on the White Castle roll wasn't formed to the roll, there was not the typical greens on top of the Ocean Vinaigrette roll. The crab toppings on the Anne Thumb's up fell all over the place before even taking it out of the container. It looks like there must've been someone new making the sushi. This place 100% deserves its 4.5 star rating. This sushi was the BEST that I've had in Chicago. The rolls are unique, but doesn't overpower the fish that's in the roll. You still taste all the flavors within it. It's also not drowned in a sauce topping, so you really get to enjoy eating the roll without tasting majority flavors from a sauce. We went on Christmas night and there were a ton of delivery drivers coming in waiting to pick up orders. Not sure if this because it was Christmas and this was one of the few places opened, or if they just get a lot of delivery opportunities lol. The service was a bit slow, and I wonder if this slowed it down or not. I think the waitress knew it was taking a while because she apologized and gave us edamame on the house. It was a nice touch and hopefully it's not a usual occurrence. The interior of the place is big and spacious. With that being said, the decor gave it a cozy, cute feel in there. I liked it! For rolls, we got the Acapulco, white castle, and mafia. We got a 4th one but I can't remember the name. This place is absolute hog trash. All the reviews that talk about the delivery service are spot on. Waited 2+ hours for the food. Called them and was told the driver picked it up over a half hour ago.. Except that no one actually picked it up and the driver number they gave me was not even in service. While I was on the phone with Grubhub they cancelled the order. But hey, at least they gave me the option of driving to the store and picking up the food - I'd just have to pay a second time in person. Fantastic gesture. read more
