Legit homemade style Hawaiian food! My family goes back over 5 generations from Hawaii, and I've eaten waaaaayyy too much Hawaiian food over my time on this planet. I never can resist a solid homemade spam musubi. Kona bento makes spam musubis just like my mom--slightly mishapen, nori seaweed wrapping around the entire rice rectangle, and slightly seasoned cooked spam slices in the middle. Granted these ain't cheap or healthy, but they are da bestest...broke da mout. My doc hates it when I eat these though.... The food here is very homestyle--the owner was raised in Oahu, but has been in Oregon most of her life, and she does a fantastic job here. So I just had gotten off the bus #61 at table rock and Vilas. I was going somewhere and on my way back to the bus stop I see this little gem and wow it smells SO GOOD! I see this young man cooking in a little shed. I'm not sure how he made magic in there like he did, but he came out and gave me a teriyaki box with chicken to try. Yummy!!! The rice was perfect and so was the chicken! Nice and tender, flavorful and the right amount of sauce, not too little, not too much. This place has heart. I love the little places with the nice people who care about their customers. When a friendly person makes food for me it tastes so much better and comforts me. I need more comfort and kindness in my life, and if you want to get back on the bus with a smile you absolutely must have one of the chicken teriyaki bento boxes! I went here on the suggestion of a co-worker. I am super disappointed I spent $14 and then was pressured into tipping (for what?). Why: The food sucks. I got the teriyaki "beef" bowl. The beef was extremely chewy, hard to get through even. The beef also had a very weird taste upon the initial bite, I still can't figure out what it is. Then you get the grill flavor, then a mediocre teriyaki flavor. The beef should be the highlight of this plate, it wasn't. The plate itself. $14 for beef, rice and teriyaki sauce? No veggies? I think you can pay $3 for veggies. If you get bento in California, or almost anywhere else you get a selection of veggies included in your box/bowl price. I highly recommend not going to this establishment as it is insanely overpriced for what you get, the quality is terrible. The good: They rinse their rice, the rice was the freshest aspect of the entire dish. I still want veggies though. If they tweaked a few things and weren't bending people over in terms of cost while using the lowest quality ingredients possible I would definitely give them a second shot. read more

Great spot for some delicious food It does take a bit to order then get your food since they make it after the order but it's worth it. I had the teriyaki beef and it was delicious and moist and tasty. It's also pretty cheap for a meal here. Highly recommend for a lunch spot if you're in town. read more

I recently moved to Oregon and I came across this place driving by. The staff was super friendly you can tell one of them seems like the owner or the main boss but she was so nice and welcomed me wit such enthusiasm because I said i have never been here before. The food is delicious I got the teriyaki chicken and beef Bento box and added veggies. This brought back so much memories of a sunday family bbq meal. Overall nice friendly ladies, yet too expensive for a beef bento that only contains 3 sticks. Plus their fee pricing on their website is outdated. I anticipated to pay about 20, yet not closer to 30 for two bentos and a drink. In my opinion, they're the most expensive bento place I've ever gone too once again the quantity of food does not match the portion of the price. read more

I had the worse chicken strips from the Kona Bento I have ever had at the race track. They were so thin you could hardly tell it was chicken. They .were barely warm and tasted like they had sat for an hour. Not sure if it was because they were so busy but being busy had nothing to do with the poor quality of food. Spam musubi was amazing, the island taco's were spicy with amazing flavors. I liked how they put furikaki on the musubi for flavor. The spam was grilled to perfection. The ladies working inside are super quick in getting our food out to us. We ended up having coconut cupcakes for dessert after dinner that night. They were ok, not much flavor. We drove through to pick up a quick lunch. Ordered the spam musubi and the chicken teriyaki musubi. On the plus side, the rice was definitely freshly made and these were good sized musubi. Wanted to try their tacos after seeing the pics on their website. The tacos look quite large. What I got didn't look like the pics at all. Very small tacos for $11.00 or $3.66 each. Their prices have gone up quite a bit. The menu items that use to be $8.00 are now $12.00 and are the same serving size. Their prices use to be more on point for take out. The prices are now comparable to a couple of other Hawaiian food restaurants in the area that offer sit down dining and larger servings for about the same price. read more

I have gone thru the "drive thru" twice. Just because it is a drive thru doesn't mean it is fast! Wait times are more like a sit down restaurant. NOT a quick option. I have stopped here twice now driving through Oregon. The chicken teriyaki bowl is so good. The Mac salad is amazing. And the spam masubis are pretty good. Super affordable and it comes with a lot of food. The only thing is I wish the staff would wear masks while making the food. I did notice they put on new gloves with each order though. They list items like protein pancakes, but if you request them it's only in a package of 20 with two days advanced notice. I've requested sweet potatoes on four separate occasions, and it's never available even tho it's part of the chicken dish listed. Many items require a 45 minute for preperation. Had Kona's Bento, 'Teriyaki' Chicken today and it was tender and very good. I paid 2.00 more for extra protein and it was worth it, got an extra chicken breast!! Rice was sticky as it should be and good also. Linda had the Mac & Cheese and said it was good but mac and cheese will never cross my lips so I have to go by her opinion. Teriyaki sauce was good but in a very scrimpy small cup of sauce. They also gave a small cup of sriracha sauce with the Bento but I'm not a fan of that flavor for asian/Hawaiian food. Linda said it was 'hot'! I tried to get some Pupus but they said that some days they don't make any so I can't comment. Overall, I'd say they are a very nice place to stop and get a meal. read more

First time I went I tried ordering the grilled chicken tenderloins with veggies, I was told I had to place my order 30 min prior, also asked for de Vegan cupcakes and the employee there was not able to tell me what ingredients it had and they were out of them anyways. So today I called in my order at 11 to make sure it would be ready by the time I picked it up. I git there at 11:37 and was told it still needed 10 min to cook so I waited.
