The ordering process is simple: walk up to the counter, place your order, grab a number, and seat yourself. I appreciated that they offer both breakfast and lunch all day because it meant we didn't have to choose between the two. I ordered the chicken tenders with tater tots and an Arnold Palmer. Everything was fresh, hot, and exactly the kind of comfort food you crave in the middle of a long road trip. Kyler ordered the Kitchen Sink, which came with eggs, bacon, hash browns, grits, and a biscuit. He asked if he could swap the cheesy grits and biscuit for biscuits and gravy, and they ended up bringing him everything anyway! It was a massive meal, but absolutely delicious. Beyond the food, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I also loved the fun, eclectic atmosphere. The colorful Memphis touches throughout the restaurant gave it so much personality, and there was even a bar area that made me think this would be an absolute blast for brunch with friends. Sunrise Memphis ended up being one of our favorite surprises of the entire drive. If you're passing through town, do yourself a favor and stop here.

The bartender was nice. I ordered the Ember&Passion cocktail. Although it was pretty good, it was quite mild. Unexpected with the ingredients in it. I was surprised that the level of expected heat was not very detectable. I give it 7/10. When I came here before in the winter, the temperature was perfect and I don't remember being too bothered that they don't have cocktail napkins. But yesterday it was quite warm in the restaurant and not having these napkins wasn't good. Nobody in the restaurant had any type of napkin under any drink! I noticed that just like mine, every glass of water from every patron had a puddle of condensation under the glass. Each time I picked up my glass of water, it would drip onto my food and clothes. My two menus got so wet. I suppose they made this decision to save themselves a lot of money. As for the food: My parmesan truffle fries were excellent!! Hot, crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked in the middle. Best I've had in a long time. The Alabama white sauce on the side was just your typical sauce. It tasted just like every other Alabama white sauce that I've had so was not disappointing. But I actually ended up not using it because it was too thin and it didn't add anything to the fries. The fries were excellent enough on their own. I ordered my burger "pink" but there wasn't any pink to it, but I wasn't that bothered about it. Burger and the toppings were tasty, except for the fried green tomato. Looking closely at the picture, you can see that it was SO SMALL compared to the size of the burger. When a restaurant does that, don't they realize that it makes for a glaring disappointment?! It apparently came from near the end of the tomato, and not the middle. If you are going to offer a fried green tomato on a burger, then I feel as if you should only use the larger slices of the tomato, and save the smaller ends for maybe putting in salads. I've always been obsessed with fried green tomatoes. After having my first two bites of burger and still not reaching the tomato, I took it off to eat by itself. Sadly, it tasted terrible! I was surprised. Obviously, they didn't season the tomato or the batter. (Salt and pepper go a long way.) The burger toppings apparently made the tomato batter not only soggy, but also this strange thick texture. Like mushy and chewy at the same time. 1/10 Worst problem: FLIES!!! So many flies! When I just had my drink but no food yet, I noticed them but was not bombarded by them at that point. It wasn't until my food came. All of a sudden I was literally surrounded by them. They were everywhere! No exaggeration. I actually had to use only one hand to eat and the other hand to constantly move back and forth over my food. I eventually gave up and set the plate of some of my fries about 4 inches in front of my burger in order to hopefully draw the flies to the fries so that I could eat my burger. Unfortunately, after only four bites of my burger, when I set it down to take a drink of water, a fly landed on it within one second. Obviously, that was my last bite, and even when I was moving the plate closer to the end of the counter, two more flies landed on it. The glass of straws was inches from me. That, and the book closest to me seemed to be where they gathered to wait for their opportunity to dive bomb me. So many of them! It turned my stomach when I realized that I had been drinking from a straw with my water and I'm sure there had been flies on it before I got there. Every person that gets a straw in their drink at this restaurant has had a fly sitting on top of it. When the bartender told me about the desserts, it turned my stomach to think of just how many flies were in the kitchen. Had I known the fly situation was that bad when I first got my drink, I would have never stayed there, and I certainly would have never ordered food. I do think it is a real shame because the winter months are a totally different experience in that restaurant. But because of how horrible it was this time, I just can't ever come back.

Not to nitpick but to want to be considered a more upscale restaurant which means charging guest more money than say a local Applebee's then knowing how to appropriately garnish or drizzle sauce to elevate at plate is important (see my picture of the chicken dish). All and all not my favorite restaurant but definitely not the worst!!

On Friday May 19, 2017 I had a terrible experience at Kooky Canuck. First I made reservations over the phone for 9:30 p.m. and I was told I had up to 15 minutes to arrive. I was on my way and about 9:25 I received a call from the restaurant asking very rudely were I was at and if I was still coming. I told them I was almost there and that the manager told me when I made the reservation that I had 15 minutes to get there before they gave the table away. I should have went with my first mind to cancel, but since my nephews graduation ran so late most of the other places were going to be closing sooner than Kooky Canuck. By the way when we arrived the place wasn't crowded at all. There were plenty of tables and no one was waited to be seated. We had a party of 12 and the waitress was horrible. She brought the small hot bottle of ginger ale and didn't bring a glass with ice, she messed up the other drink orders. Then she put the other orders in or so we thought and she forgot to take one order. She came back and took the order and his food came out way before everyone else. Three of us ordered turkey burgers and all three were mushy on the inside. We told the waitress and she said I don't know anything about that. So I guess it was a cook that came out and explained I say guess cause he wasn't dressed like anyone I wanted to cook my food. He told us the turkey burgers are made in the morning and they ran out so they made some more and they didn't set long enough that's why they were mushy. The bread crumbs they put inside the turkey burger didn't set long enough. Um okay weird. Two of the ladies that ordered sent their turkey burger back and didn't eat. I sent mines back and asked the waitress if they had honey hot wings that weren't hot and she said yes and she assured me they weren't hot. I got them and I asked her to put them in a to go box since everyone else was through eating. When I opened the box to check I could smell the buffalo sauce immediately. I said I thought you said they weren't hot she said oh not to me. I sent them back and yes of course I didn't get to eat either. The waitress was also complaining that her husband had already gotten off work wherever he work and she was anxious to get home to him. She was even outside on the phone when we were looking for her at one point. Like I said horrible experience. I had to stop at the grocery store and go home and cook something to eat. Please take this email seriously the service at this location is bad and the food is worse. The other people that did eat in my party said the food was just not good. I will say first off that I love this place, and if I don't go at least once or twice a month, something is wrong. 5 stars on the food. Everything on the menu is in enormous portions, with the largest item being a King Kookamonga, a 12 pound burger that approaches 20,000 calories. No kidding. They have a dessert that is essentially a 55 gallon drum (kidding) of ice cream and other goodies, I believe its called the Avalanche. But, that is not the norm. Most items are generous portions that a hungry individual will be more than happy with. Everything from burgers, steaks, chicken, salads, fish... It's all there. I recommend a 'normal' burger, such as the 4 cheese. The taste is amazing, and I claim it is the best burger in Memphis. Forget Huey's, what a joke. I've had most of the claimed 'best burgers in memphis', and this one kicks their butts. Also, they make their own dressings. Try the ranch on your fries, you wont regret it. And for an appetizer, bbq eggrolls. You just have to have faith that that is a good combination. It is. I have brought friends and family from out of town here and they all agree, it is one of the best burgers they've had. 5 stars for cheap beer! If you want to be intoxicated without taking out a mortgage, this is your place. A 34 oz draft for 3.99? I couldn't bring my own at that price. And if you come to any of their hosted special events, the beers are only $2. That's pretty much the biggest bang for your buck in downtown Memphis. The atmosphere is cool. It can get loud when its crowded, so its not the place for a quiet date. The place is usually packed if there is any kind of event happening downtown, or its a friday or saturday night. Be prepared to wait in that case. Sundays for lunch are a great time to go, you can usually park right outside on second street. The most convenient place to park is the peabody place garage less than 1 block away, it's only $1 an hour. Shawn, the owner, is great. He is usually visible and interacting with customers. Just an all around great guy. My only complaint is sometimes the service leaves something to be desired. Of course, this is entirely dependent upon the server you get, but most of them are great. It's been a while since I've gotten poor service, so maybe those people have since moved on. If you want an EXCELLENT burger, walk right past Huey's and into Kooky Canuck, you wont regret it. read more

A Blessing in Memphis - Kooky Canuck & Connie Deserve 10 Stars! I'm here in Memphis from California under incredibly difficult circumstances--my brother is in the trauma unit at the hospital. For two days, I've been unable to eat because every place near the hospital has been disappointing to say the least. But THANK GOD I found Kooky Canuck! From the moment I walked in, this place was a godsend. The atmosphere, the food, and most of all, the incredible waitress Connie, made all the difference. I asked her what I should order, and without hesitation, she recommended the burger with sautéed mushrooms. Let me tell you--it was divine! After two days of feeling defeated and throwing away food, this meal was not just delicious, but comforting in a way I didn't even realize I needed. And Connie? She was an absolute angel. Her kindness and hospitality were a breath of fresh air. You could tell she truly cared about making me feel welcome. She didn't just take my order; she made me feel like a valued guest, which, in moments like these, is priceless. I have to highlight this, too: Kooky Canuck is a bar, and as someone who doesn't drink, I've often experienced subpar service at similar places. But here? Not a chance. The service was top-notch from beginning to end, and I never once felt out of place. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. The food, the people, and the atmosphere were a true blessing during one of the hardest weeks of my life. Thank you, Kooky Canuck, and thank you, Connie, for showing me such kindness when I needed it most. If you're in Memphis, don't walk--RUN to this place. You won't regret it! Don't Bother. Why does downtown Memphis have have a Canadian themed restaurant? Same reason we have a giant glass pyramid with a Bass Pro in it, I suppose? Whatever ... it's a cool looking place with a fun menu that I've wanted to try for ages. I finally managed to visit but had a bad experience. We walked in ... place was 2/3 empty ... the greeter didn't say hello, just picked up her menu and walked off. We assumed (correctly?) that she had meant for us to follow her. In spite of there being maybe ten open tables, she sits right next to the kitchen. It was noisy, there was a lot of foot traffic and the chair stuck out into the busy walkway - so I politely asked her to move us. She said that we'd have to wait a minute. So we waited, and waited, and waited while she ignored us and pretended to be busy. The rest of the staff ignored us too. Another couple came in and she gave us a fake smile and seated them right away. We walked out. I don't think that we deserved to be treated like that. I have eaten at Kooky Canuck many a time and always had good food and service. It is one of my GO TO places when up in Memphis whether I'm with family, girlfriends or visitors from out of town. Thursday night we had a group party of 14 there and couldn't have been more pleased. It has such a variety of food to fit everyone's taste, but we had to try the King Kookamonga (was very good, besides fun). What especially stood out for us was the way the Kooky Canuck's worked with us. The manager, we called several times with questions, our wonderful waitress , Sonia, to anyone of the staff we had a question of. They were so accomodating and helpful with everything from the 'Elvis' impersonator, to keeping our specialty cake in the cooler for us. Sonia our waitress was not only friendly and personable but literally a step ahead of us on everything and with many helpful suggestions. I will continue going back for the good food and service but I really am going to put the word out how super they are for groups. read more

Kooky Canuck is a great mainstay of downtown Memphis. It saddens me to see a patron write multiple bad reviews why?? because he did not get bread with his meal - how "concerned" should the manager be??? Should kooky run out and add dinner rolls and hushpuppies to menu!!! How sad is it that your entire evening was ruined over a piece of bread - and that's kooky's fault. I've been a patron for years - going there for Grizzlies games and concerts - their food is great and Sean and Lana are great owners.Next time - get a 34oz beer and don't worry about the bread. BUT - I was actually writing this review to comment on the great service I received from Lori before the Jason Aldean concert - my friends and I had a wonderful time - the COOKIE was excellent. read more

Had a fantastic experience at Kooky Canuck in downtown Memphis! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was fun and welcoming. The food was outstanding--everything was fresh, flavorful, and the portions were huge. The catfish po-boy and club sandwich were prepared perfectly. The service was exceptional. Our server, April, was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. The bar drinks were excellent, with great happy hour specials. The music and lively vibe made the whole experience even better. Whether you're looking for a great meal, drinks with friends, or a fun place to relax, Kooky Canuck delivers. The best Waiter of the year award goes to Delores. LOL! I came to Memphis from Nashville on business and to visit my family on Saturday and decided to stop by one of my favorite places to eat. I was greeted with the worlds most generous present of Delores; the biggest smile that lit up the room. She was polite and quick with getting things done. When I look for great service from a waiter. I look for someone who's polite, well groomed, listens, relates, and always checking to see if things okay. She had it all! The food and drinks was great as always. Never been in downtown Memphis before, so I searched for local restaurants for good food and atmosphere. Kooky Canuck got my attention by the unique menu of oversized burgers and drinks! Indeed, drinks are huge and only 9.99 for 34 oz of cocktail! (On Tuesdays , they say, it's actually only $5.00). Food was also very delicious, especially their famous Memphis burger and Maple burger! However, the best part of my experience at Kooky Canuck was our server Sonia! She took a good care of us and made sure our night was very pleasant. Fantastic, doing a drive from the west to the east coast; Midwestern born. Been in Cali for 5 years, not one restaurant can do classic sweet tea justice. The tea here literally brought me to tears lmfao, I am so sorry to the sweet server for seeing me cry. The ambiance is very fun and laid back, there's no rush and push to leave. My burger was excellent but my wife was not a fan of the salad. In the middle of it was a huge chuck of iceberg, you know when they just throw a bowl together with no care for the person having to eat it. She enjoyed the sweet potato fries though. Service was fine but it was surprising when the rain started coming through the window and dripping on our table, the server said this happens all the time. I would recommend others go but stick to the burgers, they do them well. read more

I always ask for 2 water glasses, she kept them both topped off. I splurged and got the peach cobbler too. It was great, it turned out to be way too much food. I truly, honestly ordered the wrong thing. I didn't like my burger (the South Beach), and the nachos were just ok. They don't use real nacho cheese, so they harden together at the table. On the other hand, my friend got the prime rib and potato soup, which was awesome, as well as the maple steak. I was kicking myself that I hadn't ordered what he got. I used to live in Memphis about 15 years ago. I was in town on business long enough to eat at my favorite restaurant. It didn't disappoint. The fries and cheesy corn corn tasted like I remember. I had the Yonge Street burger. My server was Adan and he was very conscientious. He even chatted with me about Canada (where I grew up). Even the owner stopped by my table to say hello. read more

We came here for the avalanche and it was awesome kids loved it!!! We couldn't finish it. We found out they have $5 mix drinks all day Tuesday so we had to try some of that, which were amazing.
