Sitting here in kooky having a lunch date with my wife... server asked what we wanted to drink. My wife ordered her drink (Dr Pepper AND a water). Waitress never looked at me and just walked off. I shared my wife's water. Brought back the drinks sat them on edge of table and left. Came back asked if we wanted an appetizer. Ordered fried pickles. Tried to say we wanted ranch but she cut us off and said "ok" as she was walking away. Brought back the appetizer and took our order and didn't see her again until she brought the food back. The glass of water was more than halfway empty and she looked at it and walked away. Didn't see her again for 30 min and our drinks were empty for 28 of those minutes. After 30 min she came back to ask if we wanted to go boxes. I said not yet, and had to call her back to get a refill. Poor service. And these are the types of servers who complain about not getting tipped. A tip is a reward for a good service not a mandatory part of the check. read more

Memphis is slowly opening restaurants due to COVID. We stumbled on this place. So glad we did. They were working with a skeleton crew but it was a pleasure to meet the team. I looked on Yelp to find highly rated and reviewed restaurants that were close to the hotel and Kooky Canuck caught my eye. The menu was just different enough to set itself apart from a typical burger joint. I, unfortunately, arrived past happy hour on Monday but the beers were reasonable at $5.50 for something local. I chose the Canadian burger and it was messy but really good! The "bbq" sauce reminds me more of a maple syrup since it was REALLY sweet but it went well with the savory and salty elements. If I ever find myself back in Memphis, I'll definitely be back, especially for those large mugs of cocktails the lovely bartender was making! The entire restaurant and bar were socially distanced and all staff were wearing masks appropriately!!! read more

Honestly this place had the ability to make it a great experience and just fell short. I was honestly expecting an over the top experience but our server just seemed annoyed by us. I always like to have a conversation with the wait staff to kind of sense out how they might be all night and she didn't even crack a smile at my jokes (yes they might have been bad, but the other people in my party laughed). When my wife ordered a drink she didn't even know if it was some they still had. Took a good while before they brought it back to us. When she did. She just walked away and didn't take our order for at least another 5 min. We ordered an app and meals and the app came out about 2 min before the main course. After that we barely were talked to. And this place was not that busy for a Saturday night and maybe that's a sign of why. Just not the best experience. Good food, good service, good price - was a bit busy, but it is a nice afternoon, so folks are out. We were in town for BBQ Cookoff with my college roommate. (He's a Memphis native.) We wanted a change from BBQ, so he suggested this place. We split an order of the fried green tomatoes and I had the Holy Smoke burger. The tomatoes are enough for four people. As far as the Holy Smoke burger - the menu and the server warned me it was hot. Yes, it had some spice - but it wasn't THAT bad - the top of my head didn't even sweat. It had a smoky taste, so there might have been ghost pepper... maybe? But the heat didn't last very long, so it could not have been much. The fried jalapeños were a nice touch. It was perfect at cooked medium. The fries were the right amount of crispy without being "sticks." My wife had the catfish Po'Boy. It was huge. Also very good. Despite the entire place being very busy, our server, Jamie, kept up wonderfully. The entire staff was moving, non-stop. Went here last month at 9:15 PM. Host said they are closed. I told her it's only 9:15, online it says you guys close at 10 pm. She said ok, I will seat you guys but order your food in the next 10 minutes. We sat down, waited 15 minutes and no one came to us. HERE IS THE MOST EXCITING PART-our supposed to be server, "NAOMI" started cleaning empty tables, mumbling complaining that we sat in her area. NAOMI started cussing, telling the bartenders she is pissed off. We can actually hear her from where we were sitting at!!! My husband said, "I think we should leave, I don't want to eat here anymore because she might spit on our food." Naomi heard this from the bar where she's at. Has been several years since I've eaten here (moved), but there are several things that are still as good as I remember, but one that changed The wings and sauce were great, the strawberry jalapeño is unbelievable, as is the dill ranch dipping sauce The cheese logs are still the same great oversized cheese sticks The burger patty itself has changed though. Very disappointed in a resturant I frequent often and recommend to my friends that don't live downtown or live out of town. Ordered take out of the prime rib stroganoff, which by the way I rave about. However I received roast beef stroganoff w/ carrots but no prime rib. Called and was told it was prime rib. Wasn't in the mood to debate. Needless to say I WILL NOT frequent the resturant or recommend. If you take a chance and order the stroganoff tell them to hold the roast beef. We really enjoyed our lunch here. There's paid parking close, if you can't find on street parking. The cheese bites app was great. The strawberry jalapeño sauce was yummy, but a bit spicy for the kiddos, so we were so happy our request for pizza sauce was fulfilled. Kids ordered the chicken strips (delicious) and burger (I didn't try, but she ate most of it, which is a great sign), husband got the Fat Boy burger and said it was great, I ordered the Donair, but was misunderstood as the Halifax Donair. It was delicious, but I was looking forward to the Poutine. When I mentioned it to the server, after realizing the mix up, she graciously offered to bring me a plate of poutine.
