Ca.e at noon on a Sunday and we had the place to ourselves. Highlights - service amazing, food delicious, Banchan fresh, we will be back. Unfortunately this will be a special occasion place because the prices are high. Katsu, Tteokbokki, eel, soup and 3 scoops of rice (no alcohol) was over $110. They did give us a free appetizer becuase we bought 2 entrées. While there was plenty of food I wasn't sure if I wanted to pay that again. I love eel and it was delicious. We will come back but it would make more sense to have a smaller portion and a smaller price for lunch especially if you are alone.

Huge portions. Impeccable table service. Staff is endearing and informative and wanting to share knowledge about cuisine and culture. Prices feel reasonable. Clean and cute ambiance. I was not a fan of the fried shrimp. The cod appetizer pieces were nice. I was disappointed in my vegetable japchae--greasy. The banchan was well-presented and ok. The vegetable egg rolls were crispy. My friends said their dishes were decent.

Omg! I was craving beef bulgogi and had heard this cute little Korean spot opened right by Bakersfield College, so obviously I had to go check it out! From the second we walked in, I noticed how super clean and tidy everything was (love that for us). The host Temma was sooo kind and walked us through all the ins and outs of the menu, which made it feel extra welcoming. I went straight for the beef bulgogi because my tastebuds wanted a flavorful party. it was honestly sooo delicious; perfectly savory, tender, and just chef's kiss! My coworker ordered the fried rice combo with shrimp, chicken, and beef, and omg the portion was generous and looked sooo good too. They also have the cutest Korean sodas, I tried the strawberry soda and it was such a fun experience! It's definitely a must try!

Finally got a chance to try the new spot on the Eastside!!! Formally known as Shoyu Sushi the new place is now focused on Korean food dishes. Still owned and operated by Sunny and her daughter. The inside has had a make over and is a lot brighter. I went with my best friends/family so we were able to order a few dishes to share. The service was spot on. Super friendly and really great knowledge of whats on the menu and how everything is prepared. The dishes were super flavorful and cooked to perfection. My favorites on this trip were the spicy eel and beef bulgogi. Actually they were all my favorites lol. I'm looking forward to going back to try more of their creations!!!

This place is across from the BC football stadium. A nicely remodeled restaurant, making some exciting authentic Korean food. The waitress is super sweet, her mom is the chef, who also dropped by to say hi. The waitress told us her mom literally made the kimchi this morning! We started with the cod appetizer, it was soft, juicy, with a savory dipping sauce. The main attraction was the eel and crab. The buttery side eel came on a sizzling hot plate. It was out of the world good. The marinated blue crab comes in a gentle sweet hot sauce, it is fresh, and loaded with flavor. The short ribs were also very well done. The clear noodle dish with vegetables also impressed my buddy. So, great food, great service. You have to try this place!

The best Korean food in Bakersfield! I ordered the jjamppong and can confidently say it's one of the top five I've ever had. The broth was rich and flavorful without being overly spicy. I was also pleasantly surprised that it came with two large shrimp. My wife ordered the chicken katsu and loved the crispy crunch of the chicken. The katsu sauce was good, although she prefers it served on the side as a dipping sauce rather than poured over the chicken. The service was easily 5 stars. My wife and I also loved the banchan, especially the pickled onions, radish, and jalapeños. They even gave us extra to take home! Highly recommend this restaurant.

We were greeted before we even walked into the restaurant. Very friendly servers. The place is very clean, modern, and nicely lit. We ordered bulgogi, rose tteokbokki, raw marinated crab, and the spicy grilled eel. The only thing I'd ever had before was the bulgogi, everything else was a new experience. The server came over and showed us how to eat the marinated crab. The sauce on the crab is to die for, I could eat anything covered in that sauce. It was super flavorful and just enough spice. The eel was definitely interesting. It was super tender almost jelly like and it went perfect with the lettuce wraps and banchan. There were so many more dishes I wanted to try. The servings were big. We'll definitely be back to try more of the dishes.

Amazing owners and employees! Nowhere else can you speak so casually as friends and be served top notch Korean food! Portions are generous and quality A+++++++! We look forward to coming here again and again! Dinner plans are easy when it comes to this place. Soju and dinner makes the perfect evening!

The food was amazing. The beef bulgogi hotpot is to die for, I haven't been out to hotpot since i lived in Oakland and frequented Jong Ga House. East Bakersfield has a gem. The service was excellent as well, very knowledgeable staff, and the vibe was sweet and very group oriented.

The banana "freakin" pudding. Stupid good! She sells out fast!!!! So get it asap!

Just WOW! Thats it! ... ok wait.... YES PLEASE GIMME MORE!!!! I can't wait to try EVERYTHING! They have a number of items that no one else in Bako is doing ! The service is beyond great! They take the time to guide you through the menu . Everything we ate was delicious . Decent selection of adult beverages! We had a the unfiltered Nigori sake . (Always a great choice) . Beer chilled perfectly cold a$$ mug to boot! The place is clean and the lighting is perfect. Kimchi fried rice and shrimp udon were killer . Nice variety of banchan ! All delicious . Might have to come back manana!!!

We were greeted immediately upon entering. We sat and looked over the menu. Everything looked good, so we went and ordered one of the most expensive item on the menu. The place itself is very clean, the music and mood was very nice. We got our food and it did not disappoint. The braised short ribs were very tender, the broth was full of flavor. My ramen was one of the best I've had. Reminds me of Sushi Hanashi. There are foods that are just spicy and there foods where you taste the spice. This is the latter. Spicy good. Even the complimentary items were very good. Definitely coming back. If you want good Korean food, this is the place to go.

Popped into this place last night while finishing up my errands. I was pleasantly surprised to find…read moreout that they are open later than most of the restaurants in the same area. The restaurant is located on California and Stockdale in a nonchalant retail center and kind of tucked in the back. There is plenty of parking and it is safe as there are a ton of lights around. When I walked in the place was a little busy with a few families wrapping up their dinners. They have a few booths, one long community table in the middle of the restaurant and then they have a large booth that can probably accommodate 4 to 5 adult adults. The staff was very pleasant and friendly. And my server was kind enough to explain the level of spiciness for each curry and how they are prepared. There is a sign at the check-in encounter that states they do not use MSG in their restaurant... So I'm sure this is a major plus for people that are sensitive to MSG. I ordered the eggrolls from the appetizer menu, a Thai iced tea with Boba, and the chicken curry, which is a yellow, mild curry, and that came with a side of rice. The Thai iced tea was delicious. Unlike other places, I've had it. It was not too sweet, just sweet enough. The Boba was tender and chewy and was also sweetened so whoever made it knew what they were doing. The eggrolls came out and were served with a side of what I will call cucumber relish. The cucumber relish was delicious and so refreshing. It contained finally sliced cucumber, as well as minced red onion, and some sort of sauce, and a little bit of sweetness. It definitely complimented the egg rolls. The eggrolls are vegetarian egg rolls. They do contain glass noodles. While they were delicious and fresh, I found them to be a little bit bland. The vegetables inside the egg roll could use a little seasoning and they could have been cooked a little bit longer to get the vegetables to steam a little bit longer. While I like my vegetables firm, I definitely don't like them raw, especially inside an egg roll. The chicken curry was also very tasty. And while it is the milder of the curries, it had a little punch. That is OK by me because I like spicy things. The curry broth or sauce was very flavorful and creamy. The chicken was also delicious. It was diced or sliced white meat, it looks like they use chicken breast, and you could tell that it was seasoned and potentially boiled in a seasoned broth. So everything blended together and was flavorful. The chicken curry also had some potato... I personally would like more potato and maybe some carrots. The white rice was also good... It was pretty standard and customary however they could add a little bit more. While looking at the menu, I noticed that they had lunch specials and they were very good deals. I recommend this place either for lunch or for dinner... I am definitely going back to try some of the other dishes. My meal was so good. I ordered pineapple fried rice to go. And of course, I had to taste it when I got home. It was tasty but could use a little more seasoning. Since it's been overnight in my fridge already, I am hoping that the flavors had an opportunity to blend together and I'm looking forward to enjoying it for lunch later today. Enjoy! Ps. I posted a picture of one of my to-go containers... they are great quality and leak proof, which is a major plus when you have to take saucy food home.

Really nice service family owned really enjoyed it lots of flavors and really enjoy the atmosphere of a small sitting area so on some busy nights it does get pretty crowded if you go in earlier or later, you're always bound to get a seat. They're also really good. It's a takeout place if you just take it home and relax.

Great desserts! :) Service: Max was our wonderful, friendly and gracious host who answered all our questions about the menu patiently and served us well. To start off, I was stuck between rating this place 3 or 4 stars so I would say 3.5 stars. Also, I…read moredid takeout, so can't comment too much on the restaurant itself or service. I ordered the pad thai with combination of meats and it was absolutely delicious. This single item on the menu is what will keep me going back. The potstickers with the sauce were amazing as well. We also got the drunken noodles with combination of meats which we were not a fan of. Will definitely not be ordering this again. We were also disappointed that we requested extra meat and were charged for it, but it didn't seem to have extra compared to the pad thai. Another thing that seemed odd to us was that when paying at the restaurant upon pickup, the screen did not have an option to click "no tip", so that we could leave a tip in cash. Just something to keep in mind.

I'm concerned this is one of the top rated Asian cuisine restaurants in Bakersfield.... I only came…read morehere because it had good reviews. If you guys think this is great, we need to have a heart to heart. Let's start with the potstickers. I asked the waiter if I should get steamed or fried; he recommended fried. Well, let's just say I've had better potstickers from the grocery store's frozen section than this place... They were incredibly small and flavorless. If this is what is recommended, the steamed version must be inedible. Thankfully the Chicken Pad Thai actually had some flavor, but nothing to recommend to anymore. There is certainly better out there... This alone is definitely not a reason to go back. To make matters worse, it was pretty expensive... $31 for a plate and appetizer? No, just no. My favorite place at home for a huge plate and the same appetizer is $22, and my city is more expensive to live in. Heck, even amazing hole-in-the-wall Asian restaurants in Los Angeles (you know, one of the most expensive places to live) is cheaper than this place. And if this matters to anyone, the restaurant and restrooms are pretty beat up and dingy. It's not a comfortable or welcoming environment. If you're passing through like I was, don't be fooled by the good reviews. Keep driving.
