I am a Korean American who has been to Korea more than enough to know what real and authentic Korean food is really like. Well...This is it! I've tried everything Korean Garden has to offer. Their Bulgogi (beef, chicken and pork) is amazing. Their Bibimbap always has freshly stir fried vegetables. The Japchae? The best I've ever had (don't tell my mom)! My favorite dishes are Kimchi Bokkeumbap (fried rice) and Jjamppong (spicy seafood soup). The sushi is also insanely delicious! It is always fresh and made to order! If you don't like something in your roll, just ask them to not put it in. They will happily accommodate! The service is just as good as the food! They always greet you with a warm and happy smile. If you're a regular like me, you get to know everyone there. You find out that the owner, who is Korean, is cooking all of the food along with someone from the wait staff, who also happens to be Korean. It's Korean people making Korean food. I don't think it gets any more authentic than that! The first time I went to Korean Garden was the day I got back from the real "Korean Garden", Korea. My daughter and I went here for dinner the other night and it is the real deal! Not only are the prices reasonable, but the spicy Yukgaejang soup (my personal fav.) was as good as anything I've had in Korea town in LA. I'd heard good things about the restaurant from colleagues, though they always wanted to know my thoughts since I'd lived in Japan several years and have been to Korea a few times. Finally went yesterday and it was great--as good as anything I've eaten in Koreatown in NYC and in fact the pajun (scallion pancake) had more scallions in it than I remember seeing elsewhere. A nice mix of Korean and Japanese dishes and appetizers. So glad we found this place while visiting Mass Moca. Is it the best Korean food ever? No, but it was perfectly fine and given the lack of decent dining options in North Adams was a welcome change from the bar food/ pizza route. What was most impressive was the fact that the couple that own the place basically do everything from seating you to cooking to jumping behind the sushi counter to serving. A nice addition to North Adams. It's always tough to find Korean food in Western Massachusetts, so I was pleased to discover this place on our recent trip to the Berkshires. They serve Korean and Japanese, but our group stuck with Korean on our visit. I enjoyed the kimchi pancake and the bibimbap lunch special. Service was excellent, and the waiter explained what all the banchan were in case we weren't sure. The only disappointment was that the ginger tea was just a Tazo green ginger tea bag. The Korean sides were fresh and tasty. 2 of our group had Korean sweet potato noodles- reportedly good. The tempura udon was a LARGE bowl with lots of vegetables. Every time we go, our service is....very lacking. Our most recent trip, we waited 10 mins just to order waters. But food orders were speedily filled. Once we finished eating and we had our plates at the end of the table for them to get picked up, we were not approached for about 30 minutes. Our waitress walked by and ignored us close to a dozen times before a different waitress noticed us, took our plates, and brought us our check quickly! My favorite place to eat not just for the flavorful food but also for the friendly service. Having been to Korea twice myself I was very happy when Korean Garden opened up in North Adams and I was shocked at how authentic the food is. I love their bibimbap! I've even asked for adjustments to my dishes and they have gladly obliged. I went to this place for takeout a few weeks ago. After waiting for 45 minutes longer than I was supposed to, the manager discovered someone else had walked out with my food. This customer came back, and not only did the Korean Garden not offer me any discount for the wait and mixup- they tried to get me to take food with me that someone else had brought to their house. Then, when I expressed how grossed out this made me, they finally offered to re-do it. I was surprised at how fast the food came back out but when I arrived home, I discovered why. They cooked a meal that should've taken a half hour, in 10 minutes and it showed. The food was greasy and undercooked. They also packed my sushi (which was stringy and chewy once I tried it- I couldn't finish it) on top of the hot food in a bag. After everything I've heard about how amazing this place was, this was a huge disappointment. I am appreciative that they re-made my food but other than that, this was a $50 mistake. read more
