DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PLACE!! My husband and I found this place by chance and thought we'd give it a shot. I'm so glad we did! We ordered the Spicy Rice Cakes (Tteok-bokki) which was soo good! If you like mochi you will like this! It's slightly firmer in texture but it's deliciously bouncy and the sauce is mildly spicy and full of flavor. We also ordered the Stir-fried Glass Noodles and Vegetables w/Beef (Japchae) these are savory noodles with no spice with various sautéed veggies. They claim both of these are appetizers but they are huge portions! We also ordered the Grilled Pork Belly. They said this is their specialty and OH BOY IS IT!! They bring a grill/hot plate thing to your table and cook the pork belly right there next to you! They also bring out all sorts of sides such as kimchi, fresh lettuce, picked cucumber, cooked mushrooms, fish cakes, garlic, bean sprouts, lettuce with what I believe was gochujang sauce on top, flakey sea salt and possibly more if I'm remembering incorrectly. They even give you suggestions on how to eat it and it was the MOST DELICIOUS DISH! I am not a fan of fatty meat (and I ordered pork belly, I know!) but they crisp it up so nicely in the pan that I did not notice the fat. The plain meat by itself with a little sea salt on top was Divine but when you add it with some sautéd onion, garlic, bean sprouts, and kimchi on fresh lettuce..... there are no words for how delicious that is! And that is just the food! The customer service was phenomenal and the atmosphere was chill and cozy. Moral of my story is, EAT HERE! Give this place a try and I'm sure they won't disappoint you. 20/10 would recommend! I will be back because this place is GOLD! read more

Wow this place is so good! I can't wait to go back. I will totally get their grilled pork belly for two again!! So fun to be able to eat it with the lettuce wraps and the cook on the pork belly is perfection! They explain how to eat it and cook it for you. Had a great dining experience here! Service was quick and warm. We really enjoyed the fishcake, spicy cucumbers, bean sprouts and kimchi from the banchans. There doesn't seem to be free refills just as a heads up. The seafood pancake really blew me away. I expected a high quality dish but the edges on this pancake were so crunchy and delicious, it was filled with a good amount of seafood too! We got the grilled pork belly to share between 2 ppl and it was more than enough food. The server helped to cook it and I flipped it a bit more to really render out the fat. The combo with onions, bean sprouts and kimchi worked amazingly well together. The dish comes with Samjang and salt and pepper dipping sauces. Would highly recommend this spot! Great food, great service, and great ambience. This place serves a variety of Korean food! They also have a good variety of side dishes which were all delicious. First, we got a combo which was the galbi and the assorted tofu soup. It comes with an egg and rice. We also got the beef soup which is really good as well. It has noodles and the beef was very tender. Then we got the grilled pork belly which was made right in front of us. It was very rich and savory with crispy edges. At Korean Tofu King you can expect authentic Korean ambiance, service and cuisine. Everything my mother and I had was soul good (yes I mean soul lol). I do have to ask though what is in the salad dressing??? It's seriously so addicting. If you're used to Korean BBQ, this is a different vibe. While you can order some grill top options, they're best known for their combo meal that comes with a protein, rice, assorted vegetables and a soft tofu soup of choice (kimchi, seafood, assorted etc). It's what I recommend you do if trying them for the first time so that way you get a bit of everything, and is even better if you're with multiple people that don't mind sharing. Formerly The Gogi in Plano but now Korean Tofu King as of Oct. Ordered the galbi/veg tofu soup combo. Croaker does not come with entree as listed on menu, instead they sub in an egg omelet/roll with the banchan. Galbi order consists of six pieces that were a bit gristly so I wouldn't get that again. Veg tofu soup didn't come with mushrooms as listed on menu. Politely pointed out both of these menu misprints to staff & they were receptive to the feedback. Service was nice & pleasant. Plenty of japchae for leftovers. 20% off for grand opening, they think it may run until end of the year. read more

I was excited to try a Korean restaurant in Plano but I was really disappointed... I came here for Friday lunch. My friend ordered the beef bento box and I ordered the spicy pork and tofu soup combo. The sides that came with the bento box were the same side dishes that came out. The beef was all fat and not enough meat. My tofu soup was bland and spicy pork was just ok. They should really should make more effort to make the bento box worthwhile. Add gyoza and small Korean panckakes, and salad. Those don't cost much. And you can even make the tofu soup smaller but with more flavor. Portions were good and service was good. Not sure if I would be back. read more

This place is so good! Total hidden gem. My wife and kids had the kalbi jim and loved it, super flavorful and tender. I went with the spicy kimchi tofu soup and it was amazing. The tofu soup comes with rice in a hot bowl (just like at Cho Dang). I got medium spicy but might go for spicy next time. I do slightly prefer this meal here over Cho Dang. I was a customer of The Gogi for years at this location, but they retired! KOREAN TOFU KING is the new Korean diner at this address. "Tofu King" has a really big menu, not just TOFU. This place is very neat & clean. Staff is very courteous & helpful. The Kim Chee Beef soup with Tofu was tasty & filling. The Ban Chan was so fresh, maybe the best I ever ate! A small Caesar Salad was a bonus, with delicious dressing. Other diners around me were Korean and a table of Chinese ladies, enjoying conversation while dining. KPOP video was up on the giant big screen, but not loud at all. There is a "private section in the front, ask the staff if you can have quiet spot. Food - 4 Service - 5 Value - 5 We came here a few weeks ago and with the 20% for their grand opening, it was a good value with large portions. Some of the menu items needed updating (e.g., no croaker, but a egg pancake was substituted instead -- we actually preferred the egg pancake anyhow). Their vegetable tofu soup also said that it included mushrooms, but we didn't find any...and then when we asked about it they said it doesn't come with mushrooms. Service was great and staff took feedback and passed it on to the owner. The decor still has some things that say "The Gogi" on it so it's a little confusing when you first walk in and see that. read more

Ordered the tteokbokki and galbitang for takeout. The teokbokki was good, but the galbitang was extremely dark and salty. I've never had galbitang this salty and dark (it's supposed to be light and clear). I had to water it down until it was finally palatable but now the flavor is also watered down too. This use to be The Gogi. They're under new management and it's good! The food was very well made. Galbi was tender and flavorful. Beef bulgogi was not overly salty and was also tender. The soups are a must try! They're huge portions that packs a punch. We did 2 combos with a side of rice cakes and had leftovers for dinner. I would highly recommend this place. Worst Korean tofu stew I've ever had in my entire life. Not an exaggeration. I'm also Korean btw. So I went with my husband and MIL. Both of them ordered medium spice level, and I ordered spicy spice level. I assume that spicy should be spicier than medium, but I guess not. When I ordered with the Korean lady, I had my finger pointed at the word "spicy" on the menu but I said the word in Korean. Anyways, she said it back to me in English and said "spicy" so I said yes. Btw, I ordered a spicy small intestine tofu stew. When my soup came out, the broth was clear white broth. There was absolutely zero spice in it. I should have taken a picture of that but I didn't. I told the servers about it and they took it back to add some spice to the soup- no big deal. They brought the soup back.. but the only problem that I can see is that my soup is now the color that would be between mild and medium (based on my husband and MIL's soup color). I also tried it and it barely has any spice.. in fact, my husband's medium is spicier than mine. Another thing that sucks is that the intestine overcooked slightly when they went back to boil it longer to add spice in. I flagged down a lady and explained that my husband got medium, I got spicy, and that my husband's medium is spicier than my spicy dish.. and then she asked if I want more spice. I said yes. She proceeds to squirt sweet capsaicin sauce into a sauce dish and hands it to me. What am I supposed to do with this? Yes, capsaicin sauce is super spicy but I expect my Korean tofu stew to be properly seasoned.. which doesn't mean I should be just pouring a bunch of capsaicin into my soup. I expect it to be Korean pepper flakes, chili peppers, and maybe even some Korean pepper paste (not sure how they make theirs, but any of these would be common). The soup was unappetizing & I know for a fact that if their own family member showed up, that they wouldn't serve this to them. They should have started over. I barely ate my soup because it was so bland, tasteless, watery, and the intestine was too chewy like gum. When asking for the check, they asked if I wanted to a to-go box, I just said no. We typically tip well, but only ended up tipping 15% here for subpar service and experience. read more

I only went to the Gogi a few times and didn't think the food or the service was worth the money. I have been to Korean Tofu King many times. I have ordered the beef bulgogi, pork bulgogi, chicken bulgogi, and kalbi ribs. All were great and not overly sweet. If you like spicy pork bulgogi, they will add extra spices to it. The Korean side dishes are excellent, offering a generous selection that includes cabbage, radish, cucumber kimchi, and bean sprouts. Service is impressive even when busy.
