Even though they have best pastrami and pickles at $18 a sandwich... Now higher price to $22 a sandwich & you get 15% les pastrami .... and I wanted a slice of cheese on my pastrami sandwich.... getting very cheap. Don't even ask for an extra pickle they wanna charge you two extra dollars like $22 is not enough for a five dollar sandwich. I will never go back there again Every few months they increase the price and you get less and less stoop lower than low charging you two dollars extra for pickles when you're ready paid $22 for a five dollar ..... save your money eat at home.

    Shwarma!

Eighteen years ago I used to come here for lunch once a week when I worked nearby at 10 West 46th street but i had not been here since. Then today I attended a conference nearby and decided to pay them a visit. The restaurant still looks the same - well maybe a bit cleaner - but I was somewhat taken back how it was half empty at 12:30 PM on a Thursday. Back then I'd come here for the cholent which at the time was pretty flavorful but today because I can get good cholent in my neighborhood in Brooklyn, I decided to taste their shwarma. Unfortunately I was disappointed. The meat was rather bland compared to the well seasoned shwarma I used to eat at Famous Pita in Brooklyn (before they closed) and in Haifa, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv in Israel (though I must admit it is a lot cheaper to get to Kosher Deluxe from Brooklyn than to Haifa!). The included array of vegetables were plentiful but a bit under seasoned. On the positive side, the tahini was flavorful and the hot sauce (which I only had because the customer in front of me requested it tipping me off to ask as well) had a nice kick to it. Prices are in line with other (overpriced) Kosher Manhattan eateries and most of the employees were friendly when I talked with them.

Falafel Sandwich (skip it, you can do better!)

The $10 falafel sandwich with complimentary salad bar did the job but unfortunately was not particularly good. Albeit not terrible, there are so many falafel options throughout the city, from local based shops to chain restaurants, that I feel I must be critical. The falafel did not have much flavor except salty and fried. The green in my falafel was missing completely. They slather some hummus on the pita which provided some creamy flavor but there was no tzatziki or hot sauce. I took some of the mango sauce to go but once I smelled it, I decided to skip, just didn't seem fresh or natural. The salad bar was decent but I just didn't enjoy it. Maybe it was the seasonings or quality of the ingredients, something was off. The sweet potatoes were good but the eggplant just tasted oily. There are tables and chairs available for sit down but I just took my food to go. I would've been happy to find a local gem near my office but Kosher Deluxe just doesn't cut it in my opinion. Spend your $10 elsewhere. Some of the street carts right on 46th St. have some really amazing options.

We have sushi = You will most likely not be eating at a good Jewish Deli.

Yuckaroo. I've been a bit under the weather and got it in my head that I needed matzoh ball soup ASAP. Headed over to Kosher Deluxe with high hopes...hopes that were quickly and utterly destroyed when I took my first bite. The soup tasted canned and had one of the sorriest matzoh balls I've ever seen; tiny, fractured, and dense. They also gave me a small bag of stale bread to throw in. Nice accompaniment! My girl's pastrami sandwich came on "rye bread" that had terribly soft crust and stuck to the roof of your mouth like Wonder Bread. The meat tasted pre-packaged and not fresh sliced like most delis. Overall...heinous. I kicked myself for not walking out the door immediately after seeing chicken nuggets, lo mein, and sushi on the menu board. This combo of items in any single restaurant is, without a doubt, the clearest possible sign that you are about to experience an utter catastrophe for the taste buds. Oh, and for what it's worth...this place smells and the floor and tables are filthy. I have to wonder, are the people rating this 3 stars or better doing so because it's good Kosher food or simply good food? As a stand alone meal, it was without a doubt one of the worst I've ever had in any restaurant, Jewish or otherwise. Avoid like the Ten Plagues.

Ketchup added, even though I ordered no ketchup.

I work a couple blocks away, so I starting going to Kosher Deluxe about once a week for the past few months. I usually ordered a burger, and occasionally, I would bite into an unidentifiable piece of something hard or gristly, but I usually let that slide, because it's quick and easy. Also, because I never had to deal with them messing up my order before. Unfortunately, that was not the case last Friday. I ordered a burger as I have previously, with no pickles or ketchup, and I checked the printout when I picked it up to make sure, as I always do. However, when I arrived back at work, lo and behold both ketchup and pickles were present, and my lunch ruined. My lunch break is not flexible, so I had no time to return to the store. I figured oh well, it happens. I'll just call them and see what they are willing to do. What a disaster. I could not believe how rude the lady I spoke to on the phone was after I told her what happened. She first told me I would have to go back and return the burger before they would do anything, because they didn't believe me. When I told her this was not possible, because I did not have enough time on my lunch break, she put me on hold while she went to get a manager. She never put the manager on the phone, though, instead she simply told there was nothing they could do, even when I asked for a credit instead of a refund. I then offered to send them pictures, because I am adamant when people think I am lying. She gave me an email to send the photos to, and she said they would credit my card after verifying them. Then, she gave a brief, insincere apology (the first I'd gotten out of the entire call), and hung up. I sent the email and have gotten no response and no credit. I've decided to upload the pictures here in an effort to warn others to stay away from this establishment.

It's a Kosher deli lunch spot establishment with salad bar and plenty of tables. Food: The shawarma + salad bar was pretty solid. The sauces: they were pretty tasty as well. The meat is right off the rotisserie skewer. The wrap/pita comes with hummus and meat which was not bad either. Staff: Everyone was straight business What else can you expect?

Everything was quick, no waiting. Food was very good. I had the chopped salad with salmon, my wife had the grilled cheese with tomato bisque. Everything was pretty much perfect. Where we sat, we could see the open kitchen and the open fire oven. My cousin's kids were really interested in it. It got a little noisy when more parties were sat, but we could still mostly hear each other. Plus the host took a pic of all of us and the storefront when I asked. Not everywhere will do that. Only negative I could say is that it was a bit pricey, but I figured that's New York City pricing, as it was $30 for my salad plus salmon, which is only like $18-20 here in Maryland. But overall, still an A+.

Only 3 stars or so for the food. It was ok, but didn't knock my socks off. I mean, it really was fine, but not the wow I'd been led to expect. And then less than 2 stars for the ambiance, which makes me sad. The decor was fine up to a point. Lovely bar stools. But the corner we sat in? None of the photos on the walls around us were straightened or hung equally. It was a bit disturbing (ie not relaxing) and confusing to the eye. And the music was this weird mash up of disco and 70s harder rock. Weird, as it is supposed to be a higher end dining experience. Hm. I would hire the server, but would look someplace else to spend my money on another meal in the area.

For my entree, I ordered the vodka rigatoni and a side of buttered broccoli. The vodka rigatoni was really good - liked the flavor and a decent size of pasta. The broccoli was really good for some reason to me. Also tried the truffle mac and cheese which was incredibly rich and tasted great. As a dessert, we had the chocolate pie which was dense, rich, and topped with a huge dollop of whipped topping. I really liked the atmosphere of the place, loud roaring 20s style with jazz playing. It was our first time eating at a Friedman's location. It had a nice diner feel to it, with a mix of booths and tables. The brunch menu has a variety of breakfast items, salads, sandwiches and burgers, starters, and entrees (fish tacos, grain bowl, fried chicken). I like that several of the items are naturally gluten free, and some can be made gluten free by request. We decided to go with three breakfast items from the brunch menu: I got the shakshuka, my sister got the Nova Benny, and we got the lemon ricotta pancakes to share. All 3 dishes were great. The shashuka came with grilled ciabatta, perfect for dipping into the sunny side eggs and tomato sauce. My sister loved that the poached eggs and smoked salmon of the Nova Benny came on top of a crispy potato latke. The pancakes were fluffy and the lemon ricotta and lemon zest elevated their flavor.
