Falafel isn't tasty, usually tastes like it was made from burnt oil. (I don't eat anything else here). I rarely eat here because only once in a while it tastes ok. VERY expensive! A falafel platter comes with 5-6 falafel balls, Humus (chick peas &Chick peas), and you add your own salad. You get a pita and it costs $14! I'm always in the market for a good kosher restaurant, and Kosher Deluxe seemed to be a nice find when in the mood for some kosher chinese. The chinese food is over-priced (obviously kosher chinese is going to be a bit more pricey, but even Eden Wok finds that it can get by with lower prices) but acceptable when you factor in the lack of delivery charge that some of the other kosher-chinese serving establishments throw at you. This kosher deli/middle eastern grill caters to the diamond district crowd. While it does live up to its Kosher billing, I find nothing deluxe about this place (shouldn't every order come with lettuce/tomato and fries?) The grill has falafel and chicken schwarma (no lamb available). There's a free assortment of israeli salads, pickles, etc. to dress up your sandwich - it's like a Jewish version of the Roy Rogers Fixin's Bar (http://www.royrogersrestaurants.com/index.cfm/mode/push/Container_Id/386/Container_Top_Level_ID/384/view_only/1.htm) I've only had the falafel on pita which was one of the better ones I've had in the area (and only about $5) - i recommend grabbing some additional hummus from the salad bar b/c they don't spackle on nearly enough hummus. Also accept the side of tahini - good stuff. The back of the restaurant is a combination Jewish deli and kosher Chinese restaurant. I've had the roast beef sandwich on rye a couple times which comes with cole slaw and a pickle. It's a little pricy ($10?) but the roast beef and the rye bread are better than the average non-Jewish deli. The Chinese food is priced about 50% higher than the average Chinese take-out place. And it's kosher. What's the point of eating Chinese food if it's pricy and pork-less? It's like masturbating with a condom on. There's no table service but there is an eating area. It has as much ambience as you'd expect for a falafel/kosher deli in midtown. Shwarma on a pita with hummus, hot sauce platter. The salad pat is the best feature, it is not 'salad' per se, but and assortment of pickled things; cucumbers, onions, roasted eggplant. That and the shwarma and you are full, you should be for $9.70 or so. The guy up front is very fast, and knows how to serve up a good shwarma. There is also Chinese food in the back. I have no idea how those two came together. I stick to the shwarma up front. Restrooms are on the right, clean and well kept. Private stalls, 4 Flushes. This is your typical kosher fast food place which has a lot of options and is great for large families. Never ordered something here I didn't like. Sushi is good. Burgers are very good. I also recently ordered a soup from here which was really incredible. This is a great spot for lunch and I often have it delivered to my office. That said, I've also eaten in the restaurant several times. It's fast food so there isnt much in terms of ambiance but i will say its a great place for a fast group meal - there is something on the menu for everyone and enough space to accommodate large groups.... and if you aren't one of those people in large groups, there is also enough space here to avoid them and eat your meal in peace. read more

Ordered from here twice, once an American dish, second a Chinese one. Good price, decent delivery time and it being Kosher is a plus of course although I am not Jewish or particularly Religious. The Chinese dish was very unique to say the least. The Chicken and Broccoli are steamed but they are slathered in a semi-sweet sauce which doesn't taste bad. The Chicken looks different of course from your standard Chinese chicken. Although cut in the same way the look and texture is not as rough or rubbery and there is some sort of spice or seasoning in it (not sure of what it might be) which is light and not overwhelming. I'm not kosher in any way shape or form, but having friends who are very strictly so, lunch getogether venues tend to be pretty limited, especially in midtown. I've only been to this place once so far, but I'll most assuredly come back in the future. The atmosphere here is quite chaotic (basically a food court), but I like that there's so many cuisine options to choose from (though the chinese food is SoOoo overpriced I'd never feel right ordering that). Mainly, my satisfaction with Kosher Deluxe derives from a really REALLY good burger (the Sino Burger!). The texture wasn't that of a typical burger (rather more meatloafy), but it was perfectly seasoned and quite big and plump. I left the restaurant debating whether I should've gotten one to go for later in the day! The burger also came with fries and a soda, and I was allowed to substitute the fries with chili fries for an extra $2.50 (quite a good deal considering the pricing at this place in general). Unfortunately, the chili fries were just okay - the chili was a bit runny and salty. My friend had opted for the shwarma pita, which was HUGE (though she complained that they didn't wrap it right). I think the serve also threw in a complimentary fallafel. Overall - 4 star burger, 2 star fries, and a very convenient kosher lunch spot. read more

I wanted a Kosher deli in Mid-town, and my group was in a rush. I was surprised to see offerings for Shawarma and Kosher Chinese, but I craved a good Jewish deli sandwich. The hot pastrami was good, but small in size for the price. Definitely not comparable to the great Katz', but the vegetable soup was full of home-stuffed nutrition. My friends ordered the Noodle Kugel (slightly sweet with raisins and cinnamon), fried chicken (juicy, but a little on the bland side), and a knish. The schwarma and falafel were terrific. The salads were fresh and everything looked good. Bathrooms were clean.

Good stuff: The deli sandwiches are fine and I recently had an Asian-ish chicken breast with veggies and rice that was even better than fine. Their non-dairy brownies are a hit, but I love chocolate and have no standards. Not-so-good stuff: One time, there was a quarter-sized ball of unmixed flour in one of the brownies, but I just ate around it. The Steamed Vegetables with Beef was the most disgusting thing I've ever paid for. Really. Truly. Verily. If you're in the mid-40's and looking for some Jewish deli food without frills you can't go wrong with Kosher Deluxe. For $10 I got half a pastrami sandwich, a good portion of matzo ball soup, a soda, some french fries and some cole slaw. Oh - and half a pickle! We were staying at a local hotel this past Shabbos and I ran in to Kosher Deluxe (have never been there) about 1/2 hour before closing to grab some food for our meals. I ordered several items which were ready very quickly. However, they forgot to give me the salad and kugel. I called after they closed and the owner? manager? apologized but there was obviously nothing he could do. He promised he would remember us and reimburse us. We weren't able to get there on Sunday but we showed up on Monday and not only did he remember us and give us the food we were missing, he threw in a burger, too! Chinese was eh but way overpriced. Burger was ok. I ordered 2 Chinese dishes, sesame chicken and beef lo mein. Each entrée was close to $20, but the portion size was ridiculously small. Each entrée came in the standard rectangular kosher plastic Tupper ware and each was only about half full. The other half had plain rice. What a ripoff. Eden wok usually feeds my wife and I 2-3 meals for the same price. This was barely 1 meal for the both of us. Chinese was also really salty but otherwise tasteless. Would steer clear. We also ordered 2 burgers. They weren't bad, but we're pretty small. On the plus side they were only about $5 each so not that bad. Burger said it was a deluxe but deluxe just means lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. Not very deluxe. Not sure if i would order from there again, but definitely would steer clear of the Chinese. I've only ever had the falafels, and they're the best in New York. See, the trick to falafels isn't just the flavor(most places get that right) or the texture(most places screw that up). It's having the perfect array of salad to go with the falafel, good hot sauce, and good hummus. Kosher deluxe manages all these things, albeit at a higher price than I'd like to pay, but you get a ton of food for your money. With each falafel platter you can pile your plate up with as much of their 10 kinds of salad as you possibly can. We were looking for a kosher meat place in the theater district with not a ton of time available. This place definitely fit the bill. My wife enjoyed the "baby chicken" (pargiyot) sandwich but her Israeli salad was shvach (meh). I tried a chili dog for the first time (not many kosher places to find one of these) and was disappointed. The chili was way too beany to stay on the hot dog. I ate itbwith a knife and fork was still felt meh. It was also small enough I needed more. I had a schnitzel sandwich with garlic mayo and that did NOT disappoint me. The only place I could find that would deliver down to the financial district at 10pm. Of course, it was past 11 when the food arrived, and the delivery man was less than friendly, but, hey, at that hour, go for it! Opt for the laffa and you get an enormous sandwich but that costs more at $12.50 which quite frankly is a lot for a sandwich at lunch. Ugh. I used to come here because I was dating someone who kept kosher. She swore the food was amazing but the poor child didn't have a clue. When she craved a burger or Americanized Chinese, this was really the only spot in the area. I have had hundreds of burgers in my life at some of the best burger joints in the country. I have had hundreds of Americanized Chinese meals. There is no way you can convince me these foods are fantastic here especially at that price point. Kosher meats are expensive. I get it. They have fresh shawarma and self serve Israel salad bar...they have a fresh salad bar as well and sushi...they have a Chinese menu as well as American burgers steaks fries...this place is kosher with a great hechsher...they have baked goods cookies and the like...and Thursday Fridays they have chulent and challah...sit back and enjoy their large eating area.
