We went with orderup for this restaurant and was slightly disappointed. They lost two stars because our spicy pork bulgogi had a very strong fishy background flavor for some reason. Yuck. The Volcano roll was very close to boring/dry, since they seemed to have gone "light" on the spicy mayo. And the only thing relatively enjoyable was the Chesapeake Harumaki and our Fire Salmon roll. Waited 35 mins for drinks and little over an hour for food (with a reservation) on a Friday night, but didn't look that busy. They allowed a drunk obnoxious lady go on a tirade and disturb everyone else. When she asked for another glass of sake (when she was clearly already wasted) they gave it to her. An hour after ordering we still hadn't received our food. Server never explained, gave updates, never checked on us. And when we asked the waitress was indifferent. The atmosphere is nice, the restaurant is spotless, the staff is friendly and knows their stuff. The seaweed salad was good, and not full of filler. Sashimi deluxe was neat and tasty. The rolls were a little sloppy but not a big issue. The green tea was very good. My least favorite thing was actually something we didn't order; the chef sent us a salmon sampler, which was nice of him, but it was drenched in mayo sauce which I don't care for. A dab here and there is a nice accent but at this level it just obscures the flavor the the actual ingredients. That was my biggest complaint though, so I will definitely be back. read more

Went here last night for the first time and I was impressed. The sushi, service and modern atmosphere were excellent. We enjoyed the seaweed salad, gyoza, 2 rolls and a poké bowl. Everything was fresh with complex flavors. So much better than Volcano sushi down the street. I'll look forward to going back. Wish they were open for lunch. This is the best sushi place in Norfolk in my opinion. The sushi is as fresh and delicious as it is gorgeously presented. I took my young son here, and they were so kind and accommodating. They asked if we needed the spicy sauce on the side, and gave us a taster of their absolutely delicious salad with apples, mango, seared fish, cabbage, and Chile sauce. The menu looked great, a selection of Japanese and Korean favorites at a reasonable price. They also have a make-your-own poke bowl option. But we sat waiting to order for over 20 minutes, and watched every other table in the place (six total, with three whom had arrived after us) get served. Went to check out Koshi tonight and oh man what a treat :) We tried a variety of apps, kani su, rockfish ususuzukuri, garlic lime edamame which is seriously the best edamame I've ever had! I had the Koshi way Poke bowl for my entree as well as a couple rolls to split within the table. The dominion roll was so delicious Everything was so fresh and the all of flavors paired perfectly together. We then ended our meal with some creme brule that was to die for. The food is delicious here! It's a new restaurant that just opened. The ninja row was neatly made and just right spicy. Very clean restaurant. And the atmosphere is trendy. The people are very alert and fast. If your not interested in raw fish they have a variety of Korean dishes that are amazing too. You have to try this place out. Sushi was excellent...ordered a combination of sashimi and rolls. Kids loved it! Tempura was crunchy and delicious (albeit with two tiny shrimp...the colossal veggies made up for it!) Miso was not my favorite; over seasoned with only a few bits of tofu and hardly any seaweed. Pricey, but my review is limited by the fact that we ordered takeout rather than sit-down dining. I enjoyed every aspect of the service we received! The food was amazing, the staff were very nice and accommodating. I really appreciated that they had the helper chopsticks for my kids. I'll start out by saying I'm a sushi snob thanks to having just moved from Hawaii. I went to Koshi last night for my first time. I was greeted and seated instantly. Our waitress, Rachel, was beyond helpful and the service was fantastic! I ordered the seaweed salad, volcano roll (without mayo), the double spicy tuna and the tuna ninja. The seaweed salad wasn't drowning in oils or sauces. It was perfect. I could tell the fish was fresh by the taste. The rolls I ordered were amazing! Even the avocado in the roll was fresh. This place reminded me of my favorite sushi place in Hawaii that I would eat at least once a week. Everything was fresh, made to order, and delicious to say the least. The prices are reasonable for a sushi menu. Koshi truly is five stars in my book. I have been searching for the best sushi place here since I moved back and Koshi lives up to that. We had sushi and a starter recently. The sushi was not good. It was bland and mushy. My rice was over cooked, my shrimp tempura was mushy, and my salmon was like paste. I've never had salmon before that had this texture. The edamame was good. They also do not have any regular sodium soy sauce in the restaurant and this was disappointing. Low sodium soy tastes awful. The service is impeccable with head chef Phillip creating amazing flavors and captivating dishes that I have never tasted before.
