Located in Central Beaverton with no parking directly in front so you'll have to find parking either on the streets on the side or pay to park in the parking lot across the street. Plenty of table seating as well as the Sushi Bar. Was greeted right as I entered and was able to see my sushi roll being made right in front of me. The Geso Karaage was very good; nicely fried and crispy while still tasting light and not too oily. It didn't make me feel bad after eating it like a lot of the other places I've had it at. The Toro Toro roll was amazing. Nice fatty seared Toro on top complimented by spicy tuna and avocado on the inside. The roll was well balanced and you can taste the combination of the wasabi, mustard, and ponzu working together. A great place and somewhere I'll be coming back to whenever I'm in town. read more

I've been coming here since they opened. It's sooooo good and staff feel like family. My husband enjoys the bentos and they have quite the assortment of rolls too choose from. I like their chirashi bowls if I'm in the mood for variety of sashimi with some rice. What an absolute gem! First of all, great service. Both servers checked on us frequently, food and drink was brought out promptly, and it was all done with respect and a smile. We ordered the premium nigiri combo and sushi combo A. All cuts of fish were fresh, flavorful, very high quality, and BEAUTIFUL! The fact that both combos came with miso soup was a surprise to us as we have rarely seen an accompanying dish with a chefs choice combo at other restaurants. I appreciated the portion sizes of fish in each piece as well. We also ordered a salmon skin roll for an appetizer which was very good. It was pretty busy on a weeknight, but not full enough to where there's a line. Not ideal for a large group since it does feel a bit tight. Service is great and food comes out pretty quck. There were so many options that I'm definitely coming back to try more. You'll likely order two rolls and be able to call it a day. The Tangy Tang Roll was easily the most unique one. Koya Sushi used to be my top choice for sushi in Beaverton. i'm not sure what's happened, but it seems like they've been gradually slipping in quality. aside from their classics, like the hang ten roll, my favorite roll is (or was....) the toro toro roll. however, my handful of experiences ordering this roll in recent history have been wildly inconsistent and disappointing. they make it differently every time. sometimes they sear the toro, sometimes they don't. sometimes they forget the asparagus. the last time i ordered it, the fish smelled and tasted weird. this time, instead of layering a slice of seared toro on top, i'm fairly certain that they used regular tuna, crushed it up, and then topped the roll with that. for being a $25 roll, it's the least appetizing roll on my plate. the texture is all wrong. i'd rather throw back california rolls all day long than eat this even once. at this point, i think i'm breaking up with Koya. Update: Byung-Ho, thank you for your attention and response to this issue. unfortunately, there was no way to notify your staff of any issue to ask them to remake the roll because this was a take-out order. however, i have raised an issue in the past when we dined in, and the roll was not re-made at that time. the toro on top was seared too much til it was completely cooked through, and when i spoke with the staff about it, they told me "that's just the way it's made." i knew that wasn't true because i'd ordered this roll many times before. anyway, i posted a picture with the review showing how it was made incorrectly this time. crushed tuna on top of the roll is not how it's supposed to come. i hope greater attention is given to this roll and that takeout orders are inspected more closely in the future. read more

I met a friend here for lunch on New Year's Day. Because of the holiday downtown Beaverton was very quiet so parking was plentiful. When I entered the restaurant I was promptly greeted and seated. I ordered a hot tea and perused the menu while waiting for my friend to arrive. There was only one other table seated, so the restaurant was quiet, but vibrant due to the party of 4 and the friendly staff. The menu was slightly overwhelming, in the best way possible , with so many options of delicious rolls. We opted to start with the Sunomono salad (pickled cucumber) and then chose 3 rolls, the PDX (spicy tuna, seared salmon), the Fuji (spicy scallop) and the Shrimp Crunch (shrimp tempura, crab). Every item was beautiful, fresh and tasted so incredible! It's hard to choose a favorite because each item was unique. My only regret is not ordering more. The presentation artful, quality to be top tier, and atmosphere was clean, modern with a bright vibe. The dining area was small with a long sushi bar so I would assume at dinner time the tables and bar fill up quickly. We started off with one of Koya Rolls called Red Eye Roll (delicious and fresh). I ordered the Bento Box w/3-piece nigiri sushi and Pork Katsu. My wife ordered the Bento Box /Cali roll and Tofu Teriyaki. Our orders were delicious, fresh, and plentiful. Service was friendly, attentive, and outstanding. Note: They did not have their own parking lot, street parking only. The parking wasn't an issue for us, we found a 2-hour spot two blocks away. I was looking for sushi places in Beaverton and the 5 stars Koya has caught my eye. We came on a Friday evening around 7pm and there was about a 30 minute wait. The restaurant is on the smaller side and it was a full house. Koya has an extensive menu of sushi (sashimi, nigiri, specialty and classic rolls), donburi, katsu, curry, and appetizers. Their sushi has quite a variety with tempura rolls, baked rolls, and even vegetarian rolls. Koya looked like the jack of all trades, and I was excited to give this place a try. We ordered Hang Ten Roll, PDX Roll, and Spicy Salmon Roll. Service was friendly and efficient and our orders came out a few minutes after ordering. Despite the 5 star review, I thought everything was just ok. The rolls tasted good, but the quality was not 5 star worthy imo. I've had better sushi in Portland. While the presentation was beautiful, the quality of the sushi preparation seemed a bit haphazard. Would I drive out of my way to come back? Probably not. But the hype around making the national top 100 by Yelp while acceptable, and deserving, I feel other places nearby can rival it on price, freshness, fish thickness servings and variety. So it's definitely worth a visit, but it's not a must try where one is willing to wait 30+ min just to get a seat. Just go during non peak hours. Outdoor seating is available when the weather is good which makes for faster seating at times. It's on my list, but it's not something I have to have and my first go-to. Oh man after my first visit this place hasn't met the same expectations. Since my first time and first review I've came here two more times and each time it's been a bit disappointing. We ordered the spicy edamame which was definitely spicy but really good. We also had the sakura roll, baked seafood roll, ninja and hurricane. The baked roll wasn't really raw not sure what was actually baked. Also the hurricane wasn't even torched. The spicy tuna is really red which usually good spicy tuna isn't so it takes away from the freshness. The service is also a hit or miss. It's pretty inconsistent in service and quality of food. Worth the hype Smallish space getting massively popular But they got our party of 2 in fast. Then multiple servers team tagged everything, which sped up their process and our dining. That works well for this concept. Fish was absolutely great. 100. I might know some other small joints with even better fish, and some that cost a lot more for it (I'm not telling). But for the price, the value of nigiri/sashimi including some less common options is super. We're not big roll fans though, so can't comment. Our meals outside of sushi were solid, higher end flavors for what they were (karage, salmon bowl, etc.) Overall Koya elevates the izakaya.
