I walked in with my family of six to get hibachi from this establishment at 5:50 p.m. the hostess was rude stating that the next hibachi grill is not available till 7:30 we can sit and wait. Mind you there was no one in the restaurant at the grill. I asked for the manager and the manager said oh it's implied that you make a reservation. There is no statement of that on their website or anywhere in the business. It was my son's birthday and they wanted us to wait an hour and a half to get our hibachi grill. I asked were they understaffed they denied being understaffed and then said oh the schedule is based on their chefs. No one goes to an hibachi restaurant to sit at a table and have their food brought out to them as if I was at Olive garden. I would give zero Stars if I could. Me and my family walked out on my son's birthday because waiting an hour and a half for an empty hibachi table was not necessary. Please avoid this establishment read more

The grill is great and a fun experience. The sushi is also good. The service can be hit or miss - usually it's good, but I've been there a couple times where I've been neglected for too long, waiting on a refill for my drink. This use to be the "go-to" spot for sushi in el paso, but that quickly came to an end, when my friend visited me from out of town, and we both got horrible food poisoning the first night he was here - vomiting the entire weekend and physically disabling us. It was awful. After informing the manager, he said he took it seriously, but I'm not sure if his investigation was revealing. Anyhow, I can never eat here again, and it will take me a long time to develop an appetite for sushi because the experience was too awful (kind of like my first night drinking tequila in mexico) :( read more

First let me say how delicious the food is. Watching what i'm about to eat is such an experience! Our chef, Ricky, was so amazing. He was so sweet, and made sure that everyone had a good time. Koze has a urban atmosphere and is very hip for El Paso. I wished I could have given the restaurant a higher rating because I was looking forward to trying this place out. Unfortunately, the food and service was average and I was expecting more. I agree with another reviewer on yelp that service is unfortunately lacking. Our waiter never came to refill our waters until we asked. At the end of eating experiencing we had to wait an extra 15 minutes for the check. I ordered the crab fried rice, Tekka maki roll and playboy roll Crab fried rice - very tasty and flavorful. My only complaint is that I wished they mashed the crab into the fried rice instead of leaving a big lump on top. Tekka Maki roll - The saddest roll I've ever seen. It looks like a roll made by a 4 year old. It should have never been served the way it was. It was not worth the $6, rather it should have been $1. A family member wanted to post this review, but since I was more involved I thought I should be the one, if anyone, to write about the experience. I'm hardly on the east side, but when I saw Koze off the freeway I called my family to see if they wanted me to take some sushi back home to the northeast 45 minutes away. We were familiar with the west side location and thought we could hold it to the same standard, but were proved to be wrong. Once I returned home my family noticed a hair in one of the boxes with two sushi rolls. They immediately were turned off-as anyone would be... I don't think anyone orders sushi with a side of hair- and told me to go get something else. When I left, I called Koze and asked to speak with the manager to explain the situation. Long story short and after phone calls back and forth I never spoke with the manager and they just agreed to pay me back for one roll. I'm sure the food can be just as good as their west location, but the lack of customer service and basically treating me like I was a liar to protect themselves really pushed me to leave a review. Not everyone in El Paso wants or needs a handout and I was disappointed to be treated that way. I will also post the picture that Koze asked me not to post even when they treated me as a dishonest person. By the way... I am from El Paso and I want El Paso businesses to succeed. Sushi is very tasty and well made! Teppan chef was super nice and funny. We enjoyed the ambiance and the food. The server was extremely under educated on the menu, and when asked questions she just answered "I don't know I'm new" its ok to be new, just go ask someone who knows and answer the question. we ordered tea and it looked like water and she said she would brew another batch. Later in the meal she brought us more glasses of tea and it was completely bitter and not in any way drinkable. We told her we couldn't drink it but we just wanted water. At the end of our meal we received the salads that came with our meal. Soups and salads are supposed to come first and we were still charged for the tea which we couldn't drink. 4 stars for the delicious food and friendly Teppan grill chef. 1 star for the terrible waitress who didn't even try to answer our questions correctly and still charged us for the tea that was not made correctly. read more

I am excited to announce that we are finally beginning to see and enjoy new restaurants in the Eastside. My husband and I met family and friends at Koze Teppan Grill East. After reading reviews online that it was best to make reservations and we did. Once we arrived, the place was full of customers, I was certainly excited to have made a reservation. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated and the hostess was extremely accommodating and friendly. After they seated us at the Teppan grill, we were greeted by a nice and helpful waitress. We ordered a black dragon roll and it was absolutely delicious. The roll was filled with crab mix, cucumber, and avocado and topped with eel and drizzled with yummy eel sauce and a spicy siracha mayo. Finger slicking good! Shortly after the waitress took our order for the grill, followed by a flavorful cup of miso soup and a crispy and fresh salad dressed with ginger dressing. Shortly after our grill chef arrive. This is the point that I include some constructive criticisms, maybe our chef had a long day and night but for a teppan grill restaurant, he was not engaging with the people at our table. Now, I have been to other teppan grills, so I know what's it is like. But if there was newbies at our table, this would not have been a great table to be at. Ultimately, the chef did his job and cooked a terrific meal for all at the table. I cannot believe this place is right down the street from my house literately it takes us about 45 seconds to get home and of course because of the 375 loop about two minutes to get there with the turnaround let's start with the service we were greeted by a very nice young man who was ready for us to be seated it was a party of five and we were all by our selves when the hibachi Cook person came it was really nice and a little entertaining my daughter loved especially the sushi was just mediocre in my opinion when you have been to one hibachi restaurant you have been to them all the atmosphere is nice and like I said it's always best to make a reservation that way you can have your own hibachi table I really enjoyed the service we had a great week truth which made our experience a lot more delightful I would recommend this place! read more

The general decor looks modern...Wood blinds, soft lighting, dark furniture. Nice ambiance. We decided to just do normal sit-down dining, no grill for us. It was nearly empty so we were sat immediately. We were craving sushi so went that route versus the big entrees that most reviewers are raving on. Unfortunately things started off on a poor note, food-wise. Primarily the temperature of the food was off. The miso soup was barely lukewarm and the appetizer after that was warm on the outside but cold on the inside. The rolls we ordered tasted just okay. For the price, I was expecting a little more. Mine was suppose to be spicy but it wasn't at all. The roll's presentation looked great though. The server did their basic duties so the overall service was alright. However, a few days later when the bill posted, the total was wrong (almost $5 more). I like to think that the server simply typed in a wrong number and didn't take advantage of sloppy handwriting because we did in fact originally leave a 20% tip. Me and my bf wanted to try this place out since we pass by it every week. We read a lot of reviews about it being busy during the evening and their absolutely true. We went on a Friday night at around 7:30pm and we were able to get seated right away. A few minutes later there were loads of people coming in. So if it's date night, I'd recommend reserving a table in advanced! In regards to the food, we order the playboy, black dragon, and kamikaze rolls. All of them were delicious! BEST SUSHI IN EL PASO!! Seriously though, this place tops my list for sushi in the borderland. My wife and I love this place, and return as often as our pocket book will allow us to!! The restaurant itself is a fairly good size. They have taken a moderately sized area, and with some careful table arrangements, have made it seemed like a much larger area than it really is. There are four or five teppanyaki tables, and a handful more regular tables/booths. The decor and lighting are great. They work well together to create an intimate environment perfect for a date night with the Missus! The Teppan Tables are great. The chefs are always a lot of fun, and do a wonderful job of involving everyone at the table. The teppan table menu selection is fairly limited, but there isn't anything on the menu that isn't good. The chefs will also listen to you if you wish to customize your meal a bit. The teppan tables are also great for kids too. Our 3 year old loves it!! The regular tables are good as well. I actually prefer to sit at the sushi bar, because the majority of our visits have been just for sushi. The sushi chefs are like artists. It is amazing to watch them build sushi roll after sushi roll with ease. My favorites are the Spicy Tuna Roll and the Playboy Roll. The prices are about right for the quality. We usually go in and order 5-6 rolls, and spend around $70-80. They also have some good Gluten Free menu items to choose from! This place does tend to get packed for Holidays such as Valentine's Day or Mother's Day. They do accept reservations, but ake sure you reserve your seat or table early! Those spots go really quick! Update: I'm not sure what has happened to this place but it has severely gone down hill. The last few times we've had their sushi, it didn't taste that fresh. One of the times, we found something green and lettuce looking in our sake (ew). Today was probably the last time we will go there for a while. When we walked in it smelled like old grease. If you've ever worked in a dirty kitchen at a restaurant, that's the smell. After being seated I started looking around and noticed that everything was covered in grease. The sides of the grills, the sugar packets in the containers on the table, the lights, the hoods above the grills, it's everywhere. The menus even feel like they need to be soaked in degreaser/disinfectant. I looked towards the kitchen since i had a direct view where I was sitting and right when I looked I saw an employee eating food with his fingers while he was doing food prep. Gross. We got our food and it was definitely lacking. The chicken was tenders so it wasn't even good quality chicken, it ended up being tough too. The shrimp I got wasn't even deveined either which is a pretty basic step in food prep. Definitely not going back here. Sad because we used to go a few times a month. read more

I found this restaurant on yelp and made reservations for the hibachi tables on a Friday night. We were pleasantly surprised by the decor and ambiance! The experience was a pretty classic hibachi style dinning. The quality of the meat was excellent although on the pricier side. We usually come in and enjoy the teppan grill but this time the kids opted for some sushi so we sat in the dining area. As soon as we walked in, we were sat at a table that was more than 6 feet distanced from all other tables. Our waiter, Gus, was very attentive, courteous and fast. He took our drink order along with any appetizers and quickly came back with drinks, appetizers and our miso soups. Our sushi also was brought out pretty quick! I went to the Koze last week with my family. We sat at the open grill. My 4 year old daughter loved it! She thought the fire on the grill was such a thrill for her. I ordered the chicken and shrimp combo and shared it with my husband. I also ordered the California roll, Shumi, and Goyoza for appetizer. The California roll is mediocre, the Shumi is nothing to die for, and the Goyoza was "good". We were completely stuffed halfway through our combo, the chicken and shrimp with the sauce is really tasty. The atmosphere is really calm and laid back, really sophisticated.
