I've read the other reviews and I am a very frequent regular at this Kozo Sushi location where they even have my name and number saved in their system! I think you have to remind yourself that you get what you pay for! However, I believe that this Kozo is just amazing. Our regular order consists of Spicy ahi bowl, spicy ahi hand roll, shrimp tempura hand roll, takoyaki, and gyoza. All of these are priced very affordable and tastes pretty good for me. The customer service is the best as well, they are always very kind and friendly through the phone and in person. The service is very quick as we wait no more than ten minutes after ordering our food. I have been trying new things from this location and each time they never fail to satisfy me. This place is such a great place to grab a quick lunch or dinner if you have a craving for sushi or Japanese food. They have such a great selection to choose from and all are amazing. They even have rewards program and allows you to get free dishes such as the miso soup, hand rolls, and others once you start purchasing regularly. In addition, they handle covid pretty well, having a limiting of capacity with customers in the ordering area, and a good system of how food is handled there. I definitely recommend ordering online or through the phone just for even faster service. The parking is fairly packed sometimes and empty at others, I think it just depends on the time of the day and the rush of lunch. My classmates and I stopped by this area after class to get coffee. While walking to sit at the tables outside, I noticed this sushi place. The air right outside the shop was aromatic. It smelled like delicious sushi rice. Not having had breakfast, I decided to go creeper stare at the menu pictures on the windows outside. As I looked at these pictures, my classmate walked over to look as well. We discussed how everything looked absolutely delicious, haha. Then we both walked in to order food. There were more menu options inside the shop. I really liked how the menus have pictures of the items, so you can actually see exactly what you're ordering instead of guessing from a written despcription. The food also looks exactly like the picture, it's not distorted in size or shape. The pricing on items is also reasonable considering it's seafood which is usually pricier. Some places will easily charge $10+ for tiny excuses for poke bowls. Right when we entered the shop, my classmate and I were greeted by our cashier, Christy (hope I spelled your name correctly). She was very friendly and had very good customer service! On the register I saw a sticker about a stamp card program they had, so I asked Christy about it and she gladly explained the program to me. For every purchase of $5 or more (excluding gift cards) you get a stamp. After 20 purchases, you can use the card as a $5 coupon. My classmate and I waited outside of the shop for the orders. When our orders were ready, Christy brought the orders to us. I thought that was very nice of her. I'm very glad I decided to order sushi at this place. I didn't expect the food to look like the picture! Everything was very fresh. It also tasted very good. The amount of shoyu and wasabi given to go along with my meal was perfect. We have been going to this Kozo ever since. We used to frequent the Kahala location but that has since closed down. What's really good about the Kapahulu location is that the fish is quite fresh. We always get the crunchy spicy ahi don. It's sushi rice, topped with minced fresh ahi, then on top of that crunchy veggie tempura. Then it's seasoned with a spicy sauce as well as an unagi sauce. We usually ask for a side sweet chili sauce to drip all over. The rice is cooked to perfection. The fish tastes so good and not fishy at all, that's when you know it's fresh. What's also amazing about this location is the punctuality. You make an order and they just whip it up. This place is always busy and you can tell why because of the quality. Dragon maki is my go to fast food sushi at Kozo. One might think I'm crazy but the best dragon maki is at the Kapahulu Kozo. I tried other ones and they just don't match. I also had the tuna roll but I found it a bit dry. It used to taste different so I think I'll just stick to the dragon maki from now on. What I wish they had was some side chicken to go with the rice!! However staff told me it only comes in the bento and because it's cooked in an air fryer they don't have it as a side order. Too bad. This has got to be my favorite Kozo! It's nestled right in between the Jamba Juice and Starbucks on Kapahulu. I can get my sushi fix and grab a coffee all in one short trip. It's location is super convenient for me and although the parking stalls are kinda small, I can always find parking. The cashiers here are also very nice. They have certain specials, too, that are posted on the walls and windows. Like a reduced price spicy ahi don! Woo!! Best part: they have a stamp card!! I'm a sucker for stamp cards. But since kozo sushi stores are franchises, they are not created equal and I've never heard infant other store doing the whole stamp card thing. There's no where really to sit inside, but there are a few tables outside. I usually take my food to go anyways.... Service: Quick, friendly and fast! Price: Very reasonable (no more than $10 or so for any menu item) Food: Ok :/...The presentation was very nice. But the cream cheese in my Philly maki roll (photo #19) was melting (looked more like mayonnaise), lots of rice and little salmon, and the nori (seaweed wrap) on the inside of the roll was tough and not crisp (like the nori was left out or old). Kind of feel like the nori was pre-made, left on the side for a bit, and when I put in my order they quickly cut it and served it to me. There is no seating area inside the restaurant. My favorite dish is the spicy ahi don buri, which is a small bowl of sushi rice, covered with a layer of their tasty raw tuna, mixed with fish eggs and their flavorful sauce. They have a wide selection of sushi, rolls, and bowls. Most items are under $10. You can get two things on the menu and it'll still be under $20. When it comes to price, it is hard to beat this place. I ordered the 15 piece sushi lunch box. It came with some nigiri, maki, and those tofu skin things. Everything in there tasted good, but the quality was not best. You can kind of expect that from the price. The ahi had a dull pink color, the salmon had no marbling, everything else was mostly rice. Kozo Sushi is honestly the best fast food sushi I've ever had. I swear, I remember when I first moved here to O'ahu and was introduced to this sushi spot for the first time. I was impressed and will always come back. Any of their Maki's they have are delicious. All their rice don's are scrumptious. And the selection for hand rolls are amazing. This time, I came in with a Yelpie of mine and ordered a quick snack. 5 handrolls, 3 chicken katsu rolls and 2 shrimp rolls. And check this out! They also serve it their food with the option of white or brown rice. We also ordered a udon middle with soup. Which was very very tasty. Came out to about $20+ dollars but it was well worth it. The service was alright, I feel that most of the time I'm not greeted and if I do ask questions, they're bothered. Always go to Kozo for instant sushi fix. Very consistent, not the greatest, but good enough if you crave sushi now. I usually get the S-nigiri, one each of ahi, Salmon, Ikura, chopped ahi, egg, squid, masago. Easy ordering, wait a short while and find somewhere to eat. Place is always clean and good setup. I worked at Kozo for 3 years! So I know all the good, the bad, and the ugly! From the ending half of high school to my first year in college I've worked at Kozo and wow...it was quite an experience. So the first thing you MUST keep in mind is that this is no sushi bar! It's like the sushi equivalent of a McDonalds. It's nothing fancy, its just sushi... fast-food style! Usually go to another Kozo but tried here. Prices a little higher than Kahala. More parking available than Kahala which surprised me since Starbucks is next door but was empty. Ordered online so went to pick up at set time but another customer was ordering. Waited about 3-4 minutes then its my turn and whem I informed them of my online order they pointed to a bagged order sitting on the counter. I saw it but saw no sign that would inform me to go and checkout on my own. That was a little annoying since its a plus to minimize standing around during these times. The takeout dishes were ok other than being short a chopstick. The associate was nice. I know its hard for all so just trying to takeout at different places when possible. Hang in there, Hawaii. DOES JUST FINE FOR TAKE-OUT SUSHI! Hit up Kozo all the time when I lived in Waikiki. It's not Doraku or Nobu, but it isn't trying to be either. For take-out sushi, you can do plenty worse. Prices are reasonable, service is quick enough, portions are huge, and I've never had anything there that didn't agree with me. I've been coming to this Kozo since high school. My go to order is the Dragon Maki or the Dragon Don depending on what I'm in the mood for. The dragon maki here is much better than the other locations. Dragon Maki- 2 pieces of shrimp tempura rolled in nori and rice. On top is a nice serving of spicy ahi (tastes previously frozen) with unagi sauce and green onions drizzled all over. Dragon Don- Same ingredients however instead of it rolled up in rice Ahi and tempura sits on top a scoop of sushi rice.
