This was my first time coming to this location. I was sad that the Kahala Kozo Sushi no longer exists, so I looked online to see where the next convenient location was and decided that this King Street was on my way home. Well, well, well...lo and behold, when I walked in, the woman behind the counter was the woman that used to work at the Kahala Kozo Sushi!! It's a love hate thing. When I crave it I'll love you, when I don't I'm just meh. It's a simple and quick lunch for a busy day. The quality and quantity of the sushi here is not bad. We got the hurricane maki and dragon maki. The hurricane maki is shrimp tempura inside with salmon on top and little bits of lays bbq chips. The dragon maki is shrimp tempura inside with spicy ahi and teriyaki sauce on top. The hurricane maki was toooo sweet. I didn't like that they put lays chips on top of the sushi. It tasted weird. I have ordered from this place for several years and was appalled to see what I did today. For lunch, I ordered a chicken katsu bento which is my favorite. While I was waiting I was watching the woman in the back make sushi roll for other orders. I saw the person drop an egg strip from the container. She closed the container and put it back in the cabinet below the counter. Then she bent down, picked up the egg strip and put it in the sushi roll she was making. I thought she would have at least rinsed it. Actually I thought she was going to throw it away. I told the cashier person what I saw and she mentioned it to the person in the back. The person in the back denied it!! I told them that she lied. They won't even acknowledge and apologize. I feel bad for the person who will get that sushi roll. It's a sushi takeout place, that means it's a simple combo of food quality and price. This place was bad in both areas. Food... We got the unagi don bowl and the chirashizushi bowl. For ~$15, the unagi bowl was pretty spare, both in terms of amount of food and food quality. The unagi was not very good, and the amount was pretty small. Because of the first part, I was probably less offended by the second, why would I want more of something that kinda sucked, amirite? Chirashizushi bowl.... ok, chirashizushi is still sushi, so plain rice instead of sushi rice is not correct. And throwing a tiny amount of low quality poke on top of some plain rice, with some random chunks of misc. seafoody stuff, it was genuinely bad. So, considering it's bad food, at what price point does it make sense to order either of these...? None, right? But I'm gonna say that the unagi don maybe would have passed muster at $8, and the poke bowl chirashizushi maybe $7? Maybe that would have made it all less horrible? Instead it came to $25. Was craving sushi and saw the great prices. But realized it was not up to par. Sushi was very thinly sliced so couldn't taste the fish that much. It also doesn't look as fresh as it could, but considering the cheap price, I suppose it was the reason. My friend and I were debating what to grab for take-out dinner and we excitedly decided upon kozo. This location is right next to Sweet Home Cafe so it's perfect for UH students. Kozo holds a soft spot in my heart because I have grown up eating their sushi since I was little. It's the perfect place if you're craving sushi and need something quick. The reason I knocked a star off is because the service here is not too great. Food: I usually get the dragon maki. This roll has shrimp tempura and lettuce inside, with spicy ahi on the top. Mmm it's seriously the bomb! My friend suggested I try the dragon don, so I think I will get that the next time I come. Another item I order on occasion is the lunch box or S-nigiri set. Both are great options if you are looking for assorted sushi. Hand rolls are also good here if you just need a snack - I love the Ume cucumber and spicy ahi rolls. I will admit the fish quality is not the best here. But what Kozo lacks in quality, is made up for by the convenience. Service/Price: Service can be a little spotty at this location. I honestly prefer the location on Kapahulu or Kahala because the workers there are much nicer. This location also seems to be much stingier. I checked out Kozo's menu online and found they were the only place within budget so here I am... I ordered Kahala and Family set. I made my order 2 days out to ensure it would be available for pick up the time and day I needed. It came out to $70. I honestly just wanted a variety of sushi for everyone so I don't even know what was in each platter... The staff was great and provided plenty of napkins, chopsticks, wasabi and shoyu. The same day I placed an order, I also bought some sushi myself just to try it out. My sister and I shared a dragon roll, tenpura set, and moriwase nigiri. It was very filling. It wasn't the greatest sushi but it was cheap and filling. Very friendly service here and the food arrived quickly. The place was clean and their menu has plenty of pictures so it was helpful. The parking here is very tight. It's shared with a bunch of other restaurants/stores so I understand how difficult it is to find a spot. read more

And it all came out to a little over $8. Compared to the kozo sushi in hawaii Kai, this one has MUCH better service, seems cleaner, more food selections, and better food Parking, however, is sometimes hard to find in this plaza, and the spam in my hand roll seemed pretty small (and it's an up charge of I believe 0.20 to get the sauces in the Handroll. Definitely not the best sushi available by far; however, it's convenient and affordable enough, depending on what you order. I usually come here when I have a craving for hot Udon and sushi. The hot Udon itself is honestly something you could by prepackaged at nijiya, or Don Quijote. It's nothing special, just noodles and broth with some green onions.. but it hits the spot. Also, I usually end up getting either Philly maki or egg maki as Well. Once in a while I'll do nigiri or hand rolls, but it's usually not filling enough. the flavor is nothing fantastic, but is decent enough. Really awful customer service. I highly recommend you pick ANY WHERE ELSE. We came yesterday and my bf went inside to order. He came back out a couple min later because he needed 5 more cents. The lady had taken $20 from him and was just waiting for 5¢. He went back in and I started noticing all the customers that came after him had already gotten their orders. She never told the kitchen his order and she decided to just keep his money instead. UM.... Lady you were short 5¢ and you thought my bf would run off and leave you with his cash? Please, the least you could do was get our order started. Eventually he came back to the car with our order and said how incredibly rude the counter lady was. He said she was CHARGING for wasabi. She tried to charge him for extra packets of shoyu! I checked our handrolls and maki rolls and there was no wasabi. I went inside myself to grab. This woman says wasabi is NOT INCLUDED with any of the sushi. And she went on to try and show me that the sushi menu specifically says so. Nowhere did this establishment state that they charge for sushi garnishes. I was so in shock that this place does not provide WASABI WITH SUSHI. Wow wow wow. It's really just the principle of it. Yes I'm appalled that they don't give wasabi, but I'm even more appalled at how CHEAP this place is. One of the employees finally handed me my frikking wasabi after I had to argue with this woman. I'm so disappointed in the way I was treated by the staff at the Moilili location today. I called them to ask how long my order would take and was told 30 minutes. I arrive 30 minutes later and the order is ready. So far so good, until I ask how long it'll take to order more food. I don't want to be told to wait another 30 minutes, so I asked this innocent question so as not to waste anyone's time. The clerk said it depends on what I order. I ask how long certain items take to make. She snapped back at me "You need to be more patient ok?!" Boy was I pissed at this point. I ended up placing an additional order with her because who wants to waste more time looking at different places for food because of one rude clerk? I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. In this case, we paid for our sushi, which tasted like all the other Kozo Sushis. However, the customer service here was not the greatest. As we walked in to order we weren't greeted & was the only ones in the place. When we finally got to order the cashier at the front seemed like she was upset that we were there. She took our order promptly but told me the total after each item we ordered as if she was rushing to take our order. Once received we noticed that there was no wasabi in the Maki set, nor was it on the side. My boyfriend went up to ask if we could have some since it usually comes with wasabi, the cashier then told us that she would need to charge .50 if we wanted it, even if we never received any to begin with. .50 isn't the problem, there was no problem in paying that, but this is the first time a sushi restaurant asked for us to pay for condiments it usually comes with.
