I dropped in for breakfast about 830 on a Thursday morning, and the place was wall-to-wall so I grabbed a seat at the counter ... my favorite table in a diner. Immediate service from behind the counter, even though she had several tables out front and a coffee pot in one hand. As she delivered the menus, she went through the specials, which included a couple of items with chorizo sausage that almost made me change my order. I ordered a very generous ground sirloin, Patty and three fried eggs, skipped the potatoes and toast and subbed a beautifully cooked pancake and a fresh fruit bowl. While I waited for my food, not very long, I got a chance to watch the short order cook work the griddle, and what turned out to be one of the owners work four pans on the cooktop making eggs. There's a certain raw beauty to watching a short order cook on a griddle. It was clear watching people come and go, that most are locals. Over half the customers I saw come in greeted by name and their drink order put on the table without them, even having to say anything. Clearly, this place has an amazing following and the owner confirmed it's out the front door on weekends. What an awesome way to start my morning in Coos Bay.

We also ordered a couple of fruit milkshakes, because they use fresh fruit. I had a banana shake and my son ordered a blackberry shake. We both finished our shakes quite satisfied. The food was delivered to our table in a timely fashion & my chicken sandwich was the largest I've ever had served in the Coos Bay/NB area in the 25+ years I've lived here. While large, it was a bit short on the big taste I was expecting. Perhaps, as they fine tune their dishes, they'll offer a hot honey or other special sauces to make the most of this. They did however leave some sauce options for my application. The service was good and the seating and dining area appeared clean. We will try them again in the future.

A tremendous explosion of flavors came my way today from Plank House in the form of shrimp scampi…read more First, those aren't shrimp, those are prawns since they are of that size! Perfectly cooked they most certainly were. The amount of pasta is large enough that when combined with the prawns and the in-house made bread, that you could feed a hungry logger for sure! Look at the sauce the shrimp scampi is cooked in and you will see finely chopped bits of everything used in its preparation. Soak the bread in it for more foodie fun! Every bite of this meal was orgasmic in its impact. This was one of the best tasting meals of my life! What is sad is that not another person was around to eat and enjoy the bay view. The service is so friendly and on point too. Such a nice place deserves patronage. Then head upstairs to see more dining area, a cigar lounge, a virtual golf game and bar plus the magnificent bay view. This is my second meal at a Mill Casino restaurant. There will be a third and many more! The Mill Casino is Coos Bay-North Bend's hidden gem sitting in plain sight. Such nice staff work there too. Clean and modern, what more could one ask for?

German restaurants are surprisingly rare out west and I haven't eaten German food in decades…read more I grew up with a German immigrant step father and I think he was most homesick for the food. Even though I had a most complicated relationship with him, I still have fond memories of him and miss him. My son and husband ate here about a year prior and have never stopped talking about it and promised to bring me on our next trip. I have a weird dietary restriction, but I could eat off this menu and anything I wanted, which made me soooooo happy. I had the pork roulade and a raspberry beer for dinner. On Sunday I had the Bananas foster French toast. All of the food was excellent, well crafted and well served. We had the caramel pecan cheesecake and my husband, who is the biggest critic and curmudgeon around desserts, was in love with it. I saw a few reviews that the food wasn't authentic, but as it happened the table next to us was a German gentleman (from Germany ) and he seemed absolutely delighted with ALL of it. As was the ghost of my stepfather. It definitely has an old school dark wood, typical German vibe going back to the late 80's/90's. If you want something hip and trendy, well, go somewhere else. It was part of its charm in my view. I loved our kind, but sassy waitress. She made us laugh and took good care of us. Definitely a must stop.

We were greeted immediately when we walked in and waited while the group in front of us placed their order. The girl taking our order let us take our time with the menu and answered our questions nicely. She was super friendly! I ordered the Chopper burger with mac and cheese (for an upcharge), my friend got the Single Saber, then we got the bread pudding and peach cobbler for dessert. We got it all to go since they were closing soon and we didn't want to keep them late. The food was ready within about 10-15 minutes and was still warm when we got home. My burger was PHENOMENAL! It had a really good bun with some kind of herb seasoning on top and a delicious sweet BBQ sauce. The mac and cheese was also good and had a nice smoky flavor. My friends food was also good, they really liked the burnt ends but wished they came with some sauce. The desserts were alright but weren't the stars of the meal. We heated them in the microwave for two minutes before eating them so they were a little mushy but still alright. The bread pudding smelled like BBQ but didn't taste like it so that was weird. The cobbler was just alright. We have leftovers so I'm wondering how they'll be tomorrow when cold. The place itself is small and unassuming. It's hard to miss with the bright green paint. There is decent parking and both indoor and outdoor seating. Their prices were pretty reasonable for the amount and quality of food that we got. They also have all-day breakfast, so we will probably be back again during this trip! Definitely stop in here if you're in town. It is worth it!
