Shell Steak* 8 Oz
Shawn A.

Great steak/pasta place. Went there with a group for dinner. Sat in the bar for a bit for drinks, great atmosphere and excellent drinks. We got to our table and the service was fantastic. Our server walked us through the menu and gave us time to look through it before taking the order. We tried three different apps; the Pork Belly, tuna, Burrata. All of them were excellent. I got the Shell Steak for my entree and it had great flavor. Everyone else in the group raved about their meal. We split a number of sides; Brussels sprouts, fingerling potatoes, sweet potatoes and eggplant fries. I hate eggplant and loved the eggplant fries. All of the other sides were great too. We split four desserts and all were wonderful. This is a must try place!

KR Steakbar remains one of our absolute favorites. This Italian steakhouse hits the mark for any occasion--whether it's a casual bite at the bar, a family dinner, or a more exclusive, private evening. The menu delivers across the board: Italian classics, beautifully cooked steaks, fresh seafood, and flavorful veggie dishes. We especially love the patio when the weather's right--it's such a gem. While my husband and I go as often as we can, this was our first time bringing my dad and stepmom, and they were big fans, though I do have some recommendations on a few dishes... The spinalis cut of steak is a must--easily the best in Atlanta, in our opinion. Always perfectly cooked and served with a whole grilled garlic clove and a lemon half. New items we tried this visit: * Wagyu carpaccio - Fantastic flavor, though the thin slices could use a better utensil for easier handling. * Tuna appetizer - Nice idea, but we'd have preferred more cucumber and brightness, and less of the hummus base. Flavor profile was pretty flat. * Trout entrée - A bit overcooked, and the arugula beet salad was soggy, but it was still enjoyable overall. * Classic basil pasta & cacio e pepe - As always, both were absolute home runs. Shoutout to our waitress--she was incredible. I wish I'd caught her name, but she was young with gorgeous red curly hair. Truly one of the best servers we've had anywhere.

Dinner at KR Steakbar was wonderful! I made reservations previously on Resy. The restaurant is located in the Peachtree Hills neighborhood in Buckhead. The restaurant itself is really sleek with dark lighting. There were lots of diners for a Thursday which was a great sign. They offer valet parking. The waitress introduced herself almost immediately after we were seated. She went over the specials for the evening and asked if we had any questions. I chose the "Appleasure to Meet You" cocktail which was delicious. It consisted of apple infused tequila, botanicals and sherry. We shared a Caesar salad before our entrees arrived. I ordered the spinalis and my husband chose the 20 oz. Ribeye. We shared the pappardelle and eggplant fries. Everything was great, but the spinalis was phenomenal! It's on of the best steaks I've had. The egg plant fries were unique and were dusted with powdered sugar. I ended the night the fabulous brown sugar cheesecake. Overall, I'd absolutely recommend coming here for a date night or special night out. Each staff member that we encountered were extremely welcoming and friendly.

Truly an incredible experience with dim lighting and delectable dishes. Setting: There's both an open-kitchen and speakeasy in the back. My partner chose this spot for the open-kitchen, but we got seated in the speakeasy. No complaints though, it was an intimate vibe! Service: Our waiter was kind, meticulous, and very efficient. Food: We ordered the arancini, trumpet mushrooms, and the filets (6/8 oz). All of them were well-flavored and paired nicely.

Let's meat up @ one of the best Steakhouses in Atlanta. @krsteakbar by @chefkevinrathbun is a hidden gem tucked in Buckhead. It's an Italian Steakhouse w/ a cozy & chic ambiance. There's complimentary valet, just make sure to tip themBeautiful outdoor garden patio, I just love the vibes here. It was packed even on a Tuesday's night lol. Shoutout to Ariel for taking great care of us. I highly recommend to get the Wagyu Carpaccio & the Spinalis. The Spinalis with roasted garlic & balsamic was cooked to perfection. Just on the other side of the kitchen lies a hidden speakeasy "The Bureau" but it's only open on the weekend. I love speakeasies so def will be back to check it out (:

Mmmmmmmmm.

Traveling Chef, in Atlanta for two months, and my hotel was two miles from this place. Came in one night after looking for a good steakhouse that wasn't Ruth's (you know who), and the like. this place knocked my socks off. from the cocktail menu, which was fantastic, to the upscale, yet unpretentious atmosphere, it was awesome. And the food........ best meal I've had ATL, hands down. The filet was unbelievably tender, and overperfectly cooked. but the Brussels with lemon preserves and calabrese... damn I wish I had thought of that. Five @!?$ing stars yall, Chef Jessica Gamble, your a monster!! keep it up!!! Thanks for truly masterful meal, and next time I'm in Atlanta, I'll be back. Chef Ben.

Was very disappointed with this place for my meal. My partner enjoyed his meal. I had a hard time finding something I could eat. I don't eat meat and they do not have a big seafood options. The pasta was not the best and I ended up sending the food back. The dessert was pretty good. The service was pretty slow. It was a Tuesday night and wasn't that busy. Wish they had more options on the menu. They do offer valet parking for a fee and self parking for free. Nice clean bar feel. Would recommend for steak lovers only.

This is my second time to KR SteakBar and was a retirement celebration for 12 people. We got seated in the center, curtained area which created an intimate setting for a group dinner. Mo was our server and he and all his many helpers were very attentive to our group of indecisive orderers. The good was outstanding, and we tried just about every food group on the menu...pasta, steak, fish...no disappointments! Of course nobody thought they wanted desserts, but about two-thirds of us ordered anyway a broad variety, then shared them. Hands down winner was the double chocolate bread pudding. A great experience that I would repeat all over again.

The service was amazing! The food was delicious everything I had. Even ventured out and tried something very different from my norm but still delicious. We sat in the speakeasy which had a quieter vibe than the main dining room. The ambiance of that room could be considered romantic if in a date.

This place was very dark and very noisy. I didn't know you had to make reservations to eat here (my mistake) so when we arrived, the hostess told us we couldn't be seated. All of a sudden, a cancellation popped up and her entire mood and attitude shifted. It went from "you're not good enough to be here" to "let me show you your table" in 0.5 seconds. The tables were very small and the acoustics in the place were awful. I could not have a conversation without yelling. Not to mention, we got a rocky table upon sitting down. So much to the point we couldn't lean our elbows on the table without spilling the water. We informed our waitress, who attempted to fix it. Then, another waiter saw her struggling so he came over to help. You know what his first words to us were? "I saw your table shaking when you first sat down." So they knew they had a problem and declined to fix it until we brought it to their attention. Plus, as he tried to fix it, which was rocking violently, he managed to spill our water glasses all over the table. The waitress had to come back and clean up his mess. The food was good. I did enjoy our entrees but I would say that a $20-30 dish should come with a side. Instead, we paid $20-30 for each entree and an extra $12 for our side of Brussels sprouts. The bread was also really good. You can also see from the photo attached how dark the restaurant was- I had to use my phone flashlight to be able to read the menu. Even though the food was a good experience, the service was not. From the hostess giving us the stink eye upon entering to a waiter who saw we had a problem, didn't fix it, and when he did fix it managed to spill water all over our table, I was not bowled over with confidence. I am unsure if I would come back. Especially with prices like that, I'm not sure it's worth it. Also parking was difficult. There is very little street/parking lot parking, otherwise you have to do valet parking.

Bolognese and a happy camper!

KR Steakbar still has solid service and dependable food, especially the pastas, although I wish they updated the menu more often. We enjoyed the tonnarelli cacio e pepe and the pappardelle with pork & beef bolognese- even if the cacio e pepe sauce was reminiscent of biscuits and gravy sauce. It would be great to have a more reasonably priced Chardonnay instead of the $18 one, but service was great- servers who weren't even in our section engaged with me and my son. Unfortunately our desserts in the speakeasy took a complete nosedive. The butterscotch bread pudding was absolutely covered in pumpkin seeds, and the accompanying gelato chalky. Even worse was the pretty much inedible chai creme brulee that tasted like nothing but nutmeg. We literally took two small tasting bites and pushed the dish away. Surprisingly our server was completely oblivious to our practically uneaten desserts. We would return to KR at some point, but not for the speakeasy and definitely not for dessert.

Course 4/5

What an absolute 5-star dining experience! I went with a group of three others, and we sat in the dark, moody speakeasy part of the restaurant. It was a charming atmosphere, and the service was incredible. We decided to go with the Chef's Tasting option, which is $95/person. Our friends had done this before and assured us it was a great value, and it really was. You tell the waitstaff if you have any allergies or food aversions, and they create a menu just for you. It's 5 courses, and very filling - we had leftovers. The tasting began with a charcuterie board with a couple cheeses, nuts and a few meats. The next course was appetizers, and included Burrata, Romaine salad, Pork Belly, and Seared Tuna. The Pork Belly was my favorite, and the salad was also excellent. Course three was the pasta course, and they brought us Angel Hair and Tonnarelli (one of my friends is pescatarian, so they erred on the side of meatless for several dishes). Both were great, but I especially loved the flavorful Angel Hair, with pieces of lobster and crunchy breadcrumbs. For the fourth course, we had Spinalis (their specialty steak - OMG this was incredible... so much flavor, perfectly cooked), Scallops (also great), Salmon, Pan Roasted Chicken (well-cooked but forgettable), Brussels Sprouts (very cripsy), and Polenta (super rich). Dessert was cheesecake with apple pie sauce and green apple ice cream, and Tiramasu. I could have done without both desserts (they were good, but I'm a chocolate dessert girl), but that may have also been because I was so full by that time. If I were to just come back and order off the menu, I'd go with either the Angel Hair pasta or Spinalis. Amazing. What a great fine dining experience.

Are nice shorts acceptable?

From what I saw the night I was there. They should totally be fine. The crowd looked like mostly post work dinner drinks/ food.

Why isn't website working? Edit 1/5/2021 - Seems they fixed the website 👍🏻

They change the menu often and the website does look funny but they're open. Tuesday through Thursday from 5 pm to 9 pm and on Friday & Saturday from 5 pm to 10 pm

We did arrive here a bit early for our reservation but were seated right next to the open kitchen, so it felt quite crowded and cramped. It's a very, very small restaurant and it was freezing where we sat because we were under the vents. Our server, Mary Catherine, was a treat and she took good care of us. She took our drink orders, though I didn't drink tonight. For appetizers, we started with the calamari and stuffed clams. They also offered complementary bread and olive oil basket that was served warm, yum! Our food orders came out pretty fast actually. The calamari was not your typical fried calamari - it was delicious and loved the mix of raw onions in it for that fresh bite. I'm not a fan of clams so I didn't try this, but heard it was just breading and can't really taste the clam taste. For my entree, I ordered the spaghetti pomodoro with meatballs. I had been dreaming about this since making the reservations and it did not disappoint. The pasta was cooked al dente and the sauce was wonderful. I did think the meatballs were a tad too salty for my taste and I'm glad I opted out of the freshly grated parm because I feel like that would have made everything saltier. After our meal, they brought out free dessert for the birthday celebrants. Nothing but raves were said after our dinner here and we're definitely looking forward to coming back here again.

We were seated in the back which is still festive but brighter and less cozy. Like many mentioned, the waitstaff wasn't interested in making the experience memorable and wanted you in and out as fast as possible. The portion size of their $18 olive and pesto appetizer was appalling. Six olives (yes, six!), four slivers of cheese, three artichoke hearts, and a ramekin of delicious pesto. This feels like a tourist trap in a quaint neighborhood. We both got pasta entrees and they were good, but expensive considering no meat was included. The drinks were festive and actually felt like a good pour considering how expensive they are. 2 stars for that. We ended with the crème brûlée which was somehow over cooked and not creamy. I'm sure the owner will be aggressive about this honest review. To be fair, my sister loved the experience but she's hardly traveled and is delighted by mediocre things sometimes. I really wanted to love this place because we just moved to the area and I wanted to have this be our new cozy date night place. It won't be. We were greeted by the hostess as soon as we walked in and the restaurant was already very busy for a Saturday 6 pm dinner. Our server was fine, and the food was decent. I opted for the blackberry fiz mocktail, which was super sweet at first, but with a good mix, it was super refreshing. For starters, we shared the eggplant balls (a must get here!) and the bread service. The eggplant balls were definitely shareable and were probably our favorite thing we ate. The bread service you could probably skip - we wish it was served with vinegar instead of just oil and an olive tapenade. For entrees, I ordered one of the dinner specials, grilled branzino served with broccolini and potatoes. My husband ordered the ravioli. I really enjoyed the branzino, it was tender and the skin was cooked crispy. I loved that the broccolini was charred enough, but wish the potatoes were cooked a bit more. The capers added the needed saltiness to the dish, though I wish this was served with lemon or something to balance out the flavors. My husband enjoyed his ravioli but found it too heavy with the cream sauce. We thought this was a decent place for dinner, but nothing really stood out besides the eggplant balls.

Something has completely changed about this spot. It used to be one of my favorites, a nice moderately priced sit-down Italian restaurant tucked away in downtown Decatur. Maybe they've grown too big for their britches as we southerners say, but this most recent visit was likely my last. Staff attitudes were terrible, the execution of the food was a joke. My siblings and I had hyped this restaurant up to our mom and thought she would enjoyed being wined and dined. We arrived admittedly about 10 minutes after our reservation time (thanks to the city of Decatur's hostile parking policies), after attempting to call the restaurant and let them know we were circling the building. I say attempting because the number rings straight to an AI voice that doesn't allow you to speak once it asks you a question. I even tried sending messages through the OpenTable app. Either way, the restaurant claims you have a 15 minute grace period. Once we finally walked inside, my sister leaned over and whispered that their posted food inspection score was a low B. We exchanged glances but figured maybe they were inspected on an off day. The host (once she finally stopped avoiding eye contact with us) spontaneously let us know that since we weren't on time, we would be "getting a table in the back by the kitchen". What an odd policy to announce to your patrons that you're going to be punishing them with bad seating. The table was indeed by the kitchen but given how many tables this restaurant has tried to cram into the dining room, none of them are spectacular. I looked around and saw folks at tables bumping into the ones next to them, that's how tightly everyone is seated. Our server was friendly enough, and was able to recommend some good dishes. Word to the wise, while they bring bread to the table, it's one half-slice per person. We learned the hard way (because our server never mentioned it) that asking for more bread (the exact same amount as before mind you) is $7. You could buy a freshly baked loaf for that price. The actual food was fine, not bad but nothing like we've had in the past. It arrived fairly quickly. Where the dinner continued nosediving was when my sister, after seeing that we all had ordered small side dishes of pasta, decided she'd like to order some as well. By small side dish, I mean a fistful in a soup cup. I add that detail because when she asked the server, the server stated it would be AT LEAST a 20 minute wait. We asked her to repeat herself because surely we heard that wrong, right? 20 minutes for spaghetti?! She left for a few minutes, then came back and said her manager confirmed that even if she asked the kitchen to rush it, the soonest would be 18 minutes. You see a pattern here right? This restaurant seems like they relish letting their customers know who's in charge...and here's a hint reader, it's not you. Where the evening actually became appalling was a result of our closeness to the kitchen. They have a sous chef working dining room-adjacent doing the final dish prep before the food is picked up by the runners. I know kitchens usually don't utilize gloves (the whole, hands can be frequently washed but the same pair of gloves will touch multiple surfaces thing). However this gentleman unabashedly practiced some of the worst cross contamination practices I've ever seen. He'd grabbed fistfuls of Parmesan cheese to garnish a plate, then reach in his pocket for his phone. Then he'd arrange leaves of lettuce for salad, then TOUCH HIS HAIR. We watched him on two occasions have, either family friends or familiar patrons, walk up to him excitedly and he'd hug them and shake their hands and pat their shoulders, and once done would immediately grab forks and knives and spoons by their business ends, squeeze lemons, slice bread, fist the cheese container....absolutely disgusting and completely explains the health inspection score. If anything it should have been lower. We were only 5 feet away from the guy and he made eye contact with us several times so it's not like he was embarrassed. A long haired woman came over a few times and did the same as him, though she did put black gloves on once or twice. To top it off, once we received the check was we saw plenty of upcharges and surcharges that our server neglected to tell us she would be adding, so her tip reflected her oversight. To wrap it up, not only is the service and food not worth the price, but this place is actually unhygienic. Unless they change their practices, you're eating here at your own risk. Wish Yelp was like IG and I could @ the health department....
