We loved our visit to KR Steakbar. We stopped by on Saturday night. The service was attentive and smooth, particularly for the first weekend of operation. Our server was knowledgeable and helpful, although we had to laugh when she prefaced some of her answers with, "I usually tell people that ...,' given that the restaurant has been opened less than a week. Really, though, she was lovely. The ambiance and décor are great. The place has a nice vibe and is elegant without being stuffy. We did not get to check out the bar, but it looked fun, as did the communal tables. We tried a couple of the signature cocktails. There were some good ones (my wife had the Sophia and I had the Toronto). We both liked our cocktails. The food was great and we left stuffed. There were four of us, and the server suggested we order a few items from each of the sections and share. That was a sound plan. We tried two items in the Salumi, two appetizers, two sides, three pastas, and two steak dishes. There was nothing we did not like. From the Salumi, we loved them both. We had had the capicola and the cacciatorin, the latter was made with boar and was my favorite of the two. The appetizers were very good. We tried the pork shoulder and the sardines. The pork shoulder was extremely tender and flavorful. The combination of the beans and onions with the pork was very nice. If you like sardines, you'll love this one. It is grilled whole and served with onions and fennel. In a word, Yum! Next came the pastas. We did the ox tail ravioli, the spaghetti, and the tagliatelle nero. All were very good and cooked perfectly al dente. The spaghetti was one of the table's favorite dishes. It had a fabulous uncured Italian bacon with it. For me, the ox tail ravioli was the star of the pastas. Next came the sides and meats. We tried the polenta and the rapini. The polenta was great, and the rapini was excellent. They actually went very well together, too. For the meats, we tried the lamb and the rib eye. The rib eye was extremely tender and very flavorful. The lamb was delicious. It was served with onions and balsamic glaze. I nearly licked the plate. Okay, I licked the plate. We capped off the meal with desserts. All were pretty good. Id come back here and would like to bet sooner or later id find something worth coming back for. Kevin Rathburn knows steak - as evidenced by KR SteakBar. Dry aging steaks add so much complexity to a high-quality cut. It creates an ultra-tender, deep umami. The shell steak preparation of fresh horseradish shaved over the cut adds a useful zing. For appetizers, the octopus was had just enough char to give character. read more

The ambience of the restaurant was great. Bar was great, which is where my friend and i sat. First and foremost i would like to address the minimal hospitality of the hostess; when asked if there was any seating in the main dining room she said "no not at the moment but you can join us in the bar and i will check with my manager and see if we have anything available." When i asked if she knew about how long she repeated the same thing. We then proceeded to the bar. I asked if there was a coat check for my huge bag because we were sitting at the bar and it was rather large having just getting in from a trip, she said no when i asked if there was anyway she could accomodate me and put the bag up she said no very rudely!!! She never came back to let us know anything about the wait or anything... I will say the bartenders were great at making up for the rude hostess. The chick peas were a hit but the oxtail ravioli was a robbery!!! read more

Any of Kevin Rathbuns restaurants have the best steak I have ever eaten and I have been all over the US eating steak and this - by far - is my favorite! It is pricy, but no more so than Chops, Bones, Ruth's Christs, etc. and the quality of beef, and the way they age and cook it, is hands down, the best! They have very good wine and spirits as well and the menu has a large variety of items, from lamb, to pasta, to vegetarian dishes. Everyone will be able to find something they can thoroughly enjoy! read more

Server asked us three times if we had bread brought to us as if he couldn't tell for himself. He got our wine order wrong which is not that big of a deal except the food was just mediocre. Pasta was bland. Trout app lacked taste and salt. Brussel sprouts were my favorite but over salted. Spinach was good. The Shell steak with horseradish had a funky smell to it...like burnt plastic. I frequently use KR as a place to entertain clients and guests when visiting out of town. I was HIGHLY disappointed in the unprofessional behavior delivered by the bartenders as we arrived 45 mins prior to closing time. To be treated as an inconvenience after asking for 1 cocktail at the bar was unacceptable. He walked away in mid-sentence throwing his hands in the air like a juvenile, roll his eyes, then proceeded to call the other bartender b/c he did know how to make a specific drink?? I will never recommend KR again. read more

About two weeks ago I went to a great networking event at KR Steakbar. Previously I had not hear of it. The food and drinks were great. It was so good that everyone (about 12 executives) at our table were commenting about how good the food was. And it kept coming (salad, appetizers, sides, entree, etc.). It all tasted as though they took personal time to make every dish: freshly made pasta and sauces, charcuterie, salads. The food was so good that I came home lauding it to my wife. I had lauded it so much that I began to wonder if maybe I had misjudged, but tonight... I decided to take my wife here for date night. If you are married and love your spouse, you want to share your best experiences. So we came here and it was different... As I spoke with our server, I quickly found that the menu for the private party I attended was different from the regular restaurant. But we were here and I figured, if they made the food I ate, they could make a good food for our dinner. So for our dinner we ordered the meatballs, pappardelle, risotto, filet, brussell sprouts and spiradello (I probably misspelled this, because it was a chef special). All of the food was great. The steaks were cooked perfectly. One was medium and the other was well. And all of the sides were not just great, but perfect. The staff was friendly. They gave good direction for the menu choices and overall had great attitudes. read more

Very cool atmosphere, great service, and delicious food! It's within an industrial area but what a great find! We were seated next to the kitchen so it was in a crowded, busy section. My friend and I were bumped many times. FOOD: The menu is a little confusing but our server was great at explaining it. Since I don't prefer cheese and don't eat meat, I had to order all on my own. My friends shared the courses, which is what you're supposed to do. Each course(antipasti, piccoli piatti, pasta, and contorni) is like small plates. The main course(terra e mare) is your own entree. I didn't get an antipasti to start. I started with Calamari which is lightly breaded calamari with fennel, green onion, aioli sauce for dipping. It was light and very tasty with the sauce. I had the Orecchiette pasta which is caramelized onion, pinenuts, and ricotta, but I asked for it without the cheese. The thick gnocchi-like pasta had a mild taste. For my entree, I had the Whole Redfish which is a whole fish with head and tail with blue lake beans and bagna cauda(fried onions). It was a massive dish definitely enough to share but I was the only one eating fish so I had a lot of leftovers. For the table, we got Potatoes and Brussel sprout sides. The potatoes are finger link potatoes with rosemary and garlic. The brussel sprouts with calabrian chili and lemon were so delicious! For dessert, we got the Olive Oil Cake with salted cream and candied marconas, and the Ricotta Fritters with apple butter and cider poached apples. Nothing wrong with this restaurant, but not as good as Kevin's other restaurants. We would return but would do it on a Cost + $10 wine Monday and would sit at the bar. We had birthday dinner reservations and it happened to be on a cost + $10 wine night. We love this concept as it allows us to choose a more expensive bottle (but with the price reduced to their cost + $10) than we would normally. They served us the bread basket with oil. The bread had salt on it which was very good. The oil was just oil and not a very tasty oil at that. We had the arancini appetizer and the mozzerella with asparagus puree and sesame seeds. The arancini was wonderful. The other appetizer was just okay. For entrees we had the lamb dish and the shell steak. Both of us thought the shell steak looked like the filet instead of the shell. The waitress assured us it was the shell. It was good but not nearly what you can get at Rathbun Steak. I ordered the lamb "cooked to the chef's specifications". Well, my bad. It was medium well and just seemed very overcooked to me. The seasoning also tasted like taco seasoning. Because it was a birthday dinner we were offered a free dessert. I wanted to try the lemon pound cake because it came with candied farro and farro is my current favorite grain. This did not dissapoint. The cake was flavorful without being heavy. The candied farro tasted like sugar pops cereal and the whipped ricotta was just like whipped cream. The service was interesting. The waitress was training a new waiter. When he was taking our order he couldn't answer questions about the menu. I wouldn't put a server on the floor that didn't know the menu inside and out. In fact, I would have them taste all or most of the dishes so they could speak knowledgeably about them. That said the service was attentive without being intrusive. read more

Great place - staff, food, ambiance all were solid. We had artichokes , lamb tartar, and Nduja sausage for starters. We then had the papparadelle, scallops, and Shell Steak. My husband and I stopped in for an early dinner Saturday march 2. We were looking forward to a great meal of wonderful tastes as we expect at Rathbun's. We were disappointed. The positives: the service was attentive and helpful, the room is small, cozy and attractive, and a couple of the dishes were delicious. The negatives: the menu was challenging and limited, the bar has no standing or mingling room whatsoever (people waiting for their table were in the hallway to the bathrooms), and the steaks are "5 or 6 ounces each", as warned by our server and proven true. If you like tripe, sweetbreads, lamb heart tartare, sardines, or octopus, you will find plenty to choose from among the appetizers. For more mainstream palates, the appetizer selection is limited to artichokes, "lettuces with lemon and oil" (exactly what it was, nothing more nothing less) and mushrooms and lettuce - the only 2 choices resembling salads on the menu - and oysters. The mushrooms and lettuce was good - the charred lettuce was a black purée on the plate that was yummy. The spaghetti with guanciale, black pepper and egg was also yummy. As was my rib eye steak, 5 or 6 ounces for $28. My husband's "shell steak" - same as strip steak, per our server - was rare instead of medium rare. Even though both steaks were good, they came to the table room temperature. The rapini side however was piping hot, so I guess they held the steaks waiting for that. It was very creamy - too much in my opinion- and flavored strongly with dill. Not bad, but not delicious. The man we presumed to be the manager stopped by a couple of times, asking if our food was good. It would have been more helpful had he asked an open-ended question instead; we saw he was looking for that "yes" rather than real feedback. We offered some anyway. read more

I ordered the special which was a ribeye but the end cap which is less fatty as explained to me. Steak came out a little too burnt and wasn't what I expected. We've been to Rathbun's Steakhouse and had an awesome experience. We were looking forward to the same level of experience with the KR Steakbar, and were sadly disappointed. The appetizers were quite tasty but quite small. We had the meatballs and risotto balls. They were gone in a few bites. We ordered the "steak for two", which was wonderful at the steakhouse. Here however, it was really just a slightly large steak for one. Flavor was good, but not great. I've had better steaks at several other steakhouses in Atlanta for less money. At $77, it felt like a rip off. The waitstaff was quite attentive, and the room was comfortable and interesting. Overall though, I would not recommend it, and will not be going back. read more

Delicious food, small portions, creative cocktails, impressive wine list, very loud and casual ambience (too loud to be romantic), trendy chic farmhouse decor, be prepared to spend at the very least $50+ per person, perfect if you want to try creative tapas sized italian/steakhouse cuisine surrounded by a middle-aged local Buckhead crowd (not the overly done up/showy types but the tortoise shell glasses types). Went to KR steak bar for my birthday and it was amazing!!! It was a nice, romantic setting. They sat my boyfriend and I outside underneath the lanterns and candle lights. We ordered the meatballs as an appetizer and shared it and we both loved it. We ordered the Hanger Steak and it was very good it's only 6 oz so it's kinda small, it was enough for me but my boyfriend was still kinda hungry. We ordered the potatoes and spinach. The potatoes were ok but nothing special.. I'll probably try something else next time. The service was impeccable and the waiter was very attentive and went over the drink menu and dinner menu with us, he also made some great recommendations. I give this place 4 out of 5 stars only because of the portion size for men is sort of small and they took a little long to bring the food out and to being the check, but It was worth the wait. Love this little hidden spot. If it's nice out, I highly suggest making reservation on the patio. The food is always great and the service is top notch. Last time we went it with a reservation, they happened to be really behind (think short staffed in the kitchen) we had to wait a while to get our table. We had ordered a bottle of wine and they actually comped the $60 bottle as an apology for making us wait. Now that's taking care of ur customers. Their pastas are all homemade so always get one. The pappardelle pasta is the best ever, octopus is yum, Brussels sprouts side are a must, their ribeye is flavored and cooked wonderfully. Can't wait to go back and try new items! read more

A really great bar in a perfect location. I loved the atmosphere and the food is great for a bar. We sat at the bar with no reservation and stared longingly at the patio while enjoying a great cocktail, a wine or 2, a great charcuterie and cheese plate and then later we split a shellfish pasta dish. We were there for nearly 3 hours just chatting and snacking and enjoying the scene. It is a delightful although loud space. Next time, I'll make a reservation and sit on the patio. read more

Bring back the leather chairs! They make the bar really cozy. White tablecloths over patio furniture does not make sense when you look at the rest of the place. So we sat at the bar and Nick was great. Had a nice bottle of burgundy with what we think as the best food yet that we've had here. Orecchiette with lamb was so tasy and paired with a side of the mushrooms - perfect. Arancini with smoked mozzarella and the octopus were also very good. Love all of the Rathbus establishments. This one is new-ish so I hadn't been to it. They have a wonderful back room through the kitchen and we had an event for work there. The back room has a bar area and a room. The staff here were amazing and attentive, the food was spot on (massive prix fix menu with 5 courses at least). They gave us a great selection of varies wines for all tastes. This place is great for your private party! read more

Went for Buckhead Restaurant Week. Both the service and the food was excellent! Great value as well. Enjoyed a starter of beef carpaccio, main of filet medallions, and a delicious chocolate hazelnut torte for dessert. Would definitely love to go back again. read more

Went to the New Years Eve fixed price menu night. Never fair to review on that alone, so will update this if we go again. Menu had good choices, but entrees were too salty. Best food I have had in a very long time. Me and my date did the chefs pick (65 per person) and it was totally worth it. We had three appetizers, all with a little story behind each course, an entree of chicken, steak cooked to our own temperature, Brussels sprouts, fingerling potatoes. And two separate desserts (pistachio ice cream with olive oil cake was superb). It was so much food we took some home.i recommend the steak and pork-belly. Our waiter was exceptional as well. Three friends and I went last Wednesday to celebrate a birthday. When the waitress came to our table I specifically asked that the bill be split between the individuals. She then left and I had to wave her down to get her to come back. There were few people in the restaurant so I didn't understand why she ignored us. We ordered an appetizer and a salad which took a long time - in fact our main courses came shortly after the salad. Every time we needed anything I had to get her attention - although bus boys came and filled our water glasses. When we finished dinner it took quite some time to get the dessert menu and even longer to get the dessert - it was the bread pudding minus the gelato which we didn't ask for because we were tired of waiting. When the bill came it was not split and when I pointed this out she corrected it by splitting off only one person. I had to get up and follow her into the kitchen area to get a corrected bill. She ended up being very snotty about it. We won't be going back. read more

My honey took me to this place for my birthday, and it was an absolutely fabulous experience. The food is phenomenal, the service is very friendly and you can't beat the location. I enjoyed every minute of it. The server did a great job of pairing our entire meal from the appetizer, soup, salad, entrée, dessert and even the right bottle of wine. We usually go to Kevin Rathbun Steak for our special occasions, as it's our favorite, but they were booked for a private function the night we were going. We weren't at all happy with Rathbun's, so we decided to try KRSB. Use your GPS because it's so hidden away, if you blink you'll miss it. Our server was wonderful and spent a good amount of time with us describing dishes. We don't eat large portions, so we decided to just split an order of the Papardelle with the beef and pork ragu. I could have eaten that as my meal, it was a perfect size for me. It was delicious. There was just a hint of spiciness in it, the pasta was definitely home made and just wonderful. For an entree, I ordered the 6 oz. Filet with Eggplant and Roasted Garlic. My only complaint was that the eggplant seemed to be an afterthought. It could have been cooked a bit longer, but it didn't really add anything to the dish. Put some sort of sauce on it or something...it was blah. But the Filet was cooked perfectly, it was tender and just delicious. The garlic wasn't overpowering and it was just a great piece of meat. I did, however, miss my truffle butter that I usually have at KRS, but it was still really good. For our sides, we had the Potatoes (meh) and the Brussell Sprouts with preserved lemon and Calabrese, whatever that is. BEST SPROUTS EVER!!! They were quartered and seasoned with, I believe, garlic salt and a bit of lemon zest, and then deep fried. YUM YUM YUM. Can't stop thinking about them. Next time, I'll order the Pappardelle and the sprouts and I'll be in heaven. We'll be back! read more
