I had read about this restaurant opening in early 2026. I usually try to find some upscale place each year for an anniversary dinner and since we hadn't been here before, I read their reviews (which were good). I made a reservation, which involved submitting a credit card. This was in case you cancelled within 24 hours of the reservation or did not show up. In either case, they charged something like $50. All things being equal, I'd prefer not having this as part of the deal, but I didn't plan to change it, so whatever. The restaurant is located just north of Buckhead. If you are approaching it from the south, you drive by the restaurant before turning in. If you turn in before, you are in some apartment complex. They have valet parking, but it backed up almost to the sidewalk. Be careful when pulling in. Overall, this experience was what you think of when the term 'fine dining' is used. We entered from the bright sunshine into a dark, quiet interior space. There is a small lobby with the host station. We were seated right away. The interior is light enough to read the menu, but the lighting is definitely low. Our server stopped by soon and was knowledgeable about the menu. The menu has some sushi, some pasta, and a few non-steak entrees but their focus is largely steak. Drinks (cocktails or wine) are in the $20 - $30 range. We split a salad, which was sufficient and tasted fresh. My wife opted for the cod, which she liked. I got a small steak, which was a good cut and well prepared. We split whipped potatoes as our shareable side. At the end, we split a chocolate cake slice for dessert. Portions were adequate; we had a bit left to take home. The bill was a bit over $250, but it at least felt like the meal lived up to that price point. In summary - this is a great place for a special occasion meal. read more

First timers of Luella tonight.. went with a group of 6 total diners. We were very excited to see what one of our favorite "third places" has turned into... I wanted to be very impressed, however the only thing that really impressed me was our server Caroline. She was fantastic at every single moment of our experience this evening. Always knew how to adjust or to fix a misstep from the bar or kitchen and go above and beyond to make it right for us. For that, we all were very appreciative and thankful. The first thing that really stood out to us was the temperature in the building. It was extremely hot. When you require men to wear business casual attire especially in 90 degree Georgia summers... turn your AC on. I literally saw the AC unit on the wall by the kitchen and it said 73..... come on. You're charging $72 for your least expensive steak and you can't turn the air down a bit more?... Caroline thankfully brought our table a little folding fan to make sure we didn't sweat before we got our entrees... Meanwhile, drinks took FOREVER, leaving us sitting with empty glasses for 10+ minutes at a time, my martini was made wrong multiple times, my husbands steak was served to him well done when he requested it medium. (When you put a disclaimer on your menu about steaks cooked properly you should be extra careful to adhere to your own standards) and after we brought this to attention his steak was whisked away and replaced almost immediately. The plates they were served on were not warm at all which leads us to believe that the steaks are just sitting there waiting to be brought out to guests. Never have seen this kind of service in a steak house. Adding to this.. the prices on the menu are different than the prices on the website menu, even the addition on the website and the confirmation text about the 22% added gratuity policy for parties of 6 or more is misrepresented as well. Adding a 3% non-cash adjustment is just trashy in this day and age. Add it into your exorbitant prices. The decor sadly feels like a cruise ship interior and is extremely dark. It is overwhelmingly loud to the point I couldn't even carry on a conversation with my friends at my round table. I'm not sure if all of the sparkling reviews of Luella are "friends and family" but it just isn't as glamorous as it has been advertised. Atlanta is full of many amazing steak houses where you will be much more comfortable and enjoy your experience. I highly suggest you skip Luella and try out the more seasoned restaurants. read more

I was recommended Luella by friends and I had read online that the chef had something special going. My husband and I decided to give it a try for date night. We left feeling very underwhelmed. We had a 5 oclock reservation but got there a little early because we were unfamiliar with the area. Valet took our car and than we were stuck waiting outside for about 15 minutes because the door didn't open until 5. Even when opened the staff didn't seem ready. The hosted desk had owalas and other random objections. Our table when seated as missing a candle. The music was loud and kept changing volume/songs like they were trying to figure out what to play for the first couple minutes. Staff was walking through chatting drinking our styrofoam cups. We heard several parties saying they were returning after visiting a couple of weeks prior because they loved the new menu , which seemed promising. I think that may simply be because it's something new and different for the area. My husband and I both ordered cocktails. I got the Rosemary's Baby Daddy, and my husband ordered one with Japanese bourbon. Mine was INSANELY too sweet. I expected a refreshing, herbal lemon drink, but there was really no flavor other than sweetness. The only rosemary in the drink was the sprig floating on top. Even while looking at the menu online beforehand, I found it confusing: sushi, pasta, steak, pork chops, veal, cornbread, and caviar. There didn't seem to be a flow that made sense, and even our waiter seemed somewhat confused by it, saying, "Oh, this is our tagline we are suppose to say we are an Italian steakhouse with Japanese influence." We tried a little bit of everything: the burrata, the "off-menu" lobster tempura roll (I truly think they were simply trying to use up lobster because it was essentially just a lobster and rice roll, tempura-fried and absolutely drenched it was swimming in eel sauce and spicy mayo), the wagyu ravioli, the Steak Spinalis al Limone (we ordered it sliced, and it was cut lengthwise, which I thought was strange), and the bananas foster cheesecake (other than a slice of banana on top, there wasn't much banana flavor to it). They do have a really cool, well-designed bathroom, but other than that, everything else was just okay. The food was also incredibly delicious and packed with flavor. The stuffed mushrooms were a real highlight--they were a special, imported from Italy, and then there were the stuffed Wagyu ravioli. The chocolate cake was the perfect finishing touch, making the whole meal complete. We were genuinely excited to dine at Luella and made our reservation well in advance. At no point during the booking process--especially on OpenTable--was there any mention of a child‑related policy. Because nothing in the reservation flow indicated otherwise, we had no reason to think bringing our infant would be an issue. Then, on the day of our reservation, we received a call informing us of the policy. Only after receiving this call did we discover that the restaurant does have a nebulously worded "no children under 10" rule, but it's tucked away in a buried section of their website rather than presented anywhere a guest would naturally see it while making a reservation. To be clear: I fully respect a business's right to set its own rules. What I don't respect is a lack of transparency and basic courtesy. This policy should be disclosed upfront, especially when a reservation explicitly notes an infant. Instead, we were blindsided with last‑minute notice, forcing us to scramble and adjust plans for family who had traveled into town. This was entirely avoidable and, frankly, rude. If Luella wants to enforce age restrictions, that's their prerogative. But hiding the policy, failing to surface it during the reservation process, and only mentioning it hours before the meal is unacceptable. For a restaurant positioning itself as a premium Buckhead dining experience, the lack of professionalism was surprising and disappointing. Absolute vibe, this place can be both chic and laid back, people in suits and ties and jeans and boots. We sat at a high top in the bar and it had great energy so I'd recommend this place for happy hours and late cocktails. Brooke provided fantastic service and was super knowledgeable about the menu. I've been wanting to try this place for a while so I finally decided to take myself to dinner this past Saturday. I arrived at about 7:30pm. I had no reservation and the bar was mostly full but the manager Andrew found a single seat at the bar. My bartender was David and he made the best drinks. Both gave great recommendations on food. We started with the Gouda fries, great choice. For entrees we had the crab & artichoke lasagna, roasted half chicken, Brussels, and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were complimentary because the kitchen wasn't satisfied with the first batch of Brussels they prepared so they gave us the potatoes while we waited for a new serving. Had dinner with my sisters to celebrate a birthday. I live in NY and was in town for a few days. I mention NY because you know my bar is high in regard to fine dinning and steak houses. The entrance catches your eye when you walk up. That is a sign you're in for a treat. We were seated right away, in the back room with the fireplace and the Christmas tree. That was the perfect vibe we needed. Now for the food. The waiter, so sorry I forget his name was so pleasant. I also loved that he was proactive with his recommendations. We shared the following. The Crab Cake, Rosemary Focaccia, Tomahawk, Brussels Sprouts, Gouda Fries, Carrot Cake, and Chocolate Cake. The portions are generous and everything was amazing. We came here for my best friend's birthday this year - we always find a nice new restaurant to celebrate at! So we got a reservation They have a dress code, so I made sure not to wear anything sporty or dressed down. My partner and I are lesbians and we dress a bit more androgynous (think pants and button down instead of dress or skirt). They let our group through the door but only the members of our group wearing dresses. The woman, who opened the door to let us in, stopped me and my girlfriend at the door looking us up and down. She asked if we'd talked to security. We hadn't. We had left our car with the valet and waited for the rest of our party to get there for probably 10 minutes. The woman at the door waited for a man in a suit, who I saw at the valet earlier, to come check us out. She points at us to make sure that we're ok to enter. The man says we're fine, and they finally let us in. Meanwhile, our group was waiting for us inside. So what was the issue? I don't always assume profiling or discrimination, but it was pretty clear that they were judging us based on our (perfectly acceptable) clothes. Simply because we were women without skirts or dresses? We later saw a couple of men in khakis and sports vests on, and we wondered if they were met with the same treatment we were. I wanted to enjoy my meal, but I couldn't stop (and haven't stopped) thinking about being met with so much judgment despite following dress code. Our money paid the same as everyone else's. I'd like to think this was a single lapse in judgement of one person, but I felt so embarrassed and targeted for seemingly no reason since they let us in anyway. Just be careful. Most places in Atlanta I've been to feel safe and welcoming. Luella did not. If you're looking for a good meal with an LGBT+ inclusive and kind staff, try Postino just a few minutes down the road. P.S. Food was fine. Music was too loud. Tables were too crowded together making it rather stuffy and uncomfortable. I made a reservation well in advance and was turned away at the door because of my shirt. While I understand and respect dress codes, the policy felt overly rigid and inconsistently applied. I was wearing a high-quality mock-neck shirt that was clean, fitted, and appropriate for a fine dining environment. I was denied entry by staff who claimed my outfit was 'too revealing', despite being fully covered. It was an incredibly degrading experience that left me in tears before I was ever even seated. What makes this particularly upsetting is the blatant inconsistency and apparent bias in how the dress code is enforced. I was singled out and subjected to an unprofessional and degrading 'check' at the door, yet I witnessed other patrons being permitted entry while wearing outfits that were far more revealing than my own. Only after being put through this ordeal was my party finally seated. While the food was good, it could not make up for the discriminatory treatment I faced. As a Black woman in Atlanta, this kind of subjective, exclusionary 'gatekeeping' is completely unacceptable. This is not a renovated Ivy. This is a refreshing space with a menu spanning a lot of flavor profiles. From standard steak, Caesar salad and potatoes to sushi rolls and pasta. Everything we had was delicious - salad was gigantic as was the side of Gouda fries. Steak was perfection. The Brussels were a little too saucy/soggy but some may not like them crispy - I know for future to ask for them crispy and would probably pass on the lasagna (just a bit too fishy ... I know it says crab but it was just overpowering for the artichoke). The focaccia was delicious up outside - we skipped the truffle butter as truffle can drown out other flavors. Service was outstanding. Coat check is a nice touch - so many restaurants fail at the details but having a coat check, a dedicated sommelier, and attentive staff helps make the difference. read more

Let's start with the good... Space is impeccable, (albeit loud in the dining room,) the bar program is elite, and the bartenders are a vibe. I would definitely recommend drinks and apps. They had a really good Schramsburg blanc de blanc that was lovely. Front of house could use some work. Our party was delayed, but two of us were there within the 15 minute grace period and I called to let them know we were running behind but in route. Hostess advised we were fine and they'd see us soon. We arrived and our table wasn't ready. ~30 minutes later, I inquired about our table and we were seated. Evan, our sever was a joy!!! Attentive, fun, and professional. He really made the night. We started with the burrata and it was excellent. Perfect start to the meal and probably the best thing we had. We opted for family style so we could try a few things... Black cod, 10 oz Wagyu strip, Brussels sprouts, and Gouda fries. Cod was good, steak was ok, made better by the crab and truffle butter, Brussels were...Brussels, and the fries were more like potato chips than fries. They'd be great as a bar snack. Bananas Foster cheesecake was yummy...not too sweet and a nice ending to the meal. For what we spent- ~$500 for 3 people with drinks, I expected more. And the 3% CC surcharge is just weird in 2026. I went to Luella with a group of six on Saturday, May 23rd. What started off rocky ended up being a great experience for all of us. As someone who was a frequent visitor of this location's previous business, I was excited to discover that it's still one of the top spots in Buckhead--just with a different concept. We had a reservation for 8:30 PM and arrived early around 8:05 to grab a drink at the bar. The space is beautifully designed and spacious, and we enjoyed taking in the décor and overall vibe of the main bar. The bartenders were quick, knowledgeable, and welcoming. It's definitely a great spot to sit and have a drink. We didn't get seated until around 9:20 PM--nearly an hour after our reservation. While that was disappointing, the hostess staff and assistant GM were communicative and apologetic multiple times, acknowledging our frustration. Many restaurants will "take care of you" in situations like this, but I've rarely seen it done to the level Luella delivered. Chance, the assistant GM, went above and beyond by covering multiple drinks and three different appetizers to make up for the delay. I wouldn't be surprised if he came from the Ritz-Carlton, given their reputation for turning mistakes into memorable experiences. Now, onto the food. Everything tasted delicious, although one member of our group received a steak that was slightly overcooked (ordered medium, came out medium-plus). I especially enjoyed the beef carpaccio, which had tiny potato chips on top for added crunch--excellent touch--and the wagyu beef ravioli, which practically melted in your mouth. The gouda fries were fantastic, and one order is more than enough to share among two to four people. My wife ordered the surf and turf roll, which offered a nice contrast to the ravioli and our starters. Everything from the food, to the service, to the ambience was so good I decided to come back for an early vday dinner with my bf. Before I get into the cons, I do want to mention that the only reason this review is a 3 is because of one of the managers who accommodated us and immediately took action into correcting the cons. I think his name is Ju-won. Your hospitality and diligence is highly appreciated and would only consider going back because of him. We had reservations at 9pm and walked in at 8:55. Our table wasn't ready yet so they sat us at the bar as we wait for our table.. no worries. We ordered a round of shots and drinks as we wait. When our table was ready, the host said she would transfer our drinks to our table as any restaurant would. The bartender at the bar (brown skin with dreads) insisted my bf carry 4 drinks by himself and said "you not gonna get that bro?" Bro? Extremely unprofessional and unacceptable. Our server did not write down our order, nor did he repeat our order make sure everything was correct. We had to wait for dishes that he misheard us order, middle tables were extremely close so waitresses and waitors will bump into your table. Food 8/10. It's nice being able to order sushi, pasta, and steak all in one place. Expect a wait for each dish, especially sushi. Caesar salad had lemon slices which was a pleasant surprise. Gouda fries was pretty mid. Broccolini was amazing. Can't go wrong with rigatoni, it's comparable to carbone's. Ambience 10/10. Dark & sexy. read more

The place is beautiful! The play thing we didn't like was how close we were to the table next to us. In NYC, I get it but not Atlanta. Service was amazing. Our waiter was a lot of fun and helpful. This is a newer steakhouse so we weren't expecting Bones/Hals level service but damn it was very subpar. Our waitress was obviously very new and it showed. She didn't remove our wine glasses when we ordered cocktails and had to ask someone else to. We were there for a birthday and she never acknowledged it and couldn't even pop a candle on the dessert when the table next to us did. She also forgot to give us our credit card back after we paid. The food was solid though! Caesar salad was good but the romaine could have been more fresh, it looked pink. I asked for two cherries in my Shirley temple and got none lol. Unfortunately, while the setting is exceptional, the service left a lot to be desired. There were several moments where a lack of transparency made the experience uncomfortable. Our server said, "I'm going to bring out some bread to get us started," served with a delicious truffle butter -- which sounded complimentary. It later appeared on the bill as a $20 charge that was never mentioned. We were only offered bottled still or bottled sparkling water and agreed to bottled still. However, we were then served tap water and still charged for the bottled water. It genuinely felt like the expectation was that no one would notice or say anything. The sommelier was extremely aggressive with upselling. I clearly stated which bottle I wanted multiple times, yet he continued pushing more expensive options. It was uncomfortable and off-putting rather than helpful. There is also a 4% fee for paying with a credit card instead of cash, which only adds to the feeling that the entire service model is built around presumptively closing a sale rather than creating a great guest experience. Overall, it felt like the staff had been trained to sell first and serve second. You leave not feeling taken care of -- but instead feeling pressured into paying for things you didn't ask for or didn't receive. With a more transparent, guest-first approach to service, it could truly live up to the beauty of its space. read more

As a welcome neighborhood upgrade from the Ivy, I was really hoping to like this place, but left feeling underwhelmed and ripped off. I brought my wife here for her birthday dinner, as all of our friends were talking about wanting to try it, and the few that had been had good experiences. The first impression was a good one - the ambiance and decor are top notch, and our servers were on top of us up until we ordered our entrees. The cocktail and drink selection is quite large, and the small plates all seem to be a hit - we had the Burrata which was very good. For entrees, my wife had the Cacio e Pepe which was very good, and I ordered a steak (Spinalis) which was extremely overseasoned and tasted like straight salt. The desserts were decent, we had the Cheesecake which was good but not great, and they comped my wife a Cannoli for her birthday, which was nice. Unfortunately, the service was a huge letdown once we ordered our entrees. Our server was constantly busy with other tables and very rarely checked in on us for additional drinks - we probably would've ordered 2-3 more, but never got the chance. And when we did get the chance to order additional drinks when entrees were served, they forgot my wife's cocktail for over an hour until we ordered dessert and reminded them for the *second* time. While we were waiting on the chance to order additional drinks, we finished our water glasses and were completely without drinks for roughly 45 minutes! To add insult to injury, the bathroom was out of paper towels and had no way to dry your hands. This shouldn't happen at a restaurant of this tier!! To pile on to the service mishaps, the prices here are already competing with the highest in town, and then they nickle and dime everything. We were offered only bottled water options when we sat, which ended up being $11/bottle (even though tap was available when we later asked), valet was $5 (then tip on top of that), and they charged a 3% credit card fee. All of this amounted to a $400+ bill for one small plate, two entrees, one shared side, one dessert, 2 cocktails, and 2 glasses of wine, which is, quite frankly, absurd. Really, really wanted to love it so badly. However, the food fell flat for me. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't amazing by any stretch. It was probably the most unmemorable meal I've had in a restaurant in quite a while. I didn't hate it but I didn't love anything I tried. The crabcake which friends had raved about was just OK. The spinalis had no salt (which I found ironic since other reviews mention this place as being too salty). Everything was just "meh". Service was excellent and the decor was nice. Will I be back? I doubt it, there are far better steak house options in Atlanta that I'd rather opt for. The idea of Luella was far better than the execution. read more

as soon as we walked in entry, we were not even greeted they say they run a strict dress code when we all put together and they let a white lady walk in with ripped jeans, but not my friend of color. they saw the tiniest bit of lace and got intimidated even dressed in heels... it is right across a car wash in which they share a lot with which is very degrading to the outside ambience of the restaurant.... read more

1. So loud we could barely hear the server or each other. 2. Server asked if we wanted bread before we even looked at the menu. We said sure. Had no idea there would be an $18 charge for 5 small pieces of bread (for the six of us) with olive oil and truffle butter. 3. Food was overly salty. We mentioned this to the manager when he came by to check on us and he seemed surprised but after reading other reviews this seems to be a common complaint. 4. Credit card fee was charged on top of the menu prices with no mention of that on the menu, website, or at booking. When we asked the manager about the fact that it wasn't disclosed we were told that they had discussed this and decided not to publish that policy. 5. Service was very slow. 3 1/2 hours for dinner was an hour plus too long. 6. $9.00 for a Coca Cola out of a can. 7. Don't think they really care about any of this based on a conversation with a manager when we left and a followup phone call with a different manager after the fact. One and done. read more

This place was awesome! Food was extremely high quality, and the selection of options from pasta, steak, entrees, sushi, and appetizers was fabulous. The staff were also extremely welcoming, friendly, and took great care of our table with a great level of attention to detail. The ambiance was impressive, with a true luxury experience that our party enjoyed. I will definitely be back again soon! read more
