I had occasion to visit Frasers again. This time with my wife, Dad, and Stepmom. We had a very happy and lovely experience. We started with calamari and a glass of wine. I ordered the special King Salmon dish for my dinner. It was cooked perfectly, very tender with great color and just a touch deeper color in the middle. For dessert I chose the Crème Brûlée. I think that was my first time ever having that! I will be judging any other times against Frasers. The wait staff was very friendly and helpful. We were served quickly and professionally. Excellent dining! The food was delicious, we were seated at the bar and had a view of the chefs, excellent service.

This food simply wasn't as good as I remember. I feel they've become too fancy , too contrived. The tomato and burrata dish was served with chilled roasted tomatoes, other pickled vegetables and prosciutto, a bit overseasoned but dry - see pic . No olive oil or basil. It felt more like a charcuterie board when it could gave been so much more just sticking to the classics.... for this dish the sky is the limit considering regional farm to table opportunities and getting it so overengineered felt just out of touch. The rack of lamb didn't live up to its previous self either. It wasn't a rack but a bunch of end pieces - double chops cut through the middle; and the fat wasn't roasted enough to bring out flavor. This was roasted at too low of a temperature where the outside crust cannot develop and the fat remains limp. Service was ok although I was never asked if I wanted another beverage, or water refill, or if the food was good. They have a bar, the Mahattan was served in a tumbler instead of a Martini glass, and I noted the beer came out of a can. read more

I was welcomed by a friendly staff without a reservation mid week; I was told the bar was full but I could be seated at a table. The tables are set with cloth tablecloths, salad fork, fork, knife, butter knife, a water glass, and cloth napkin. The colors are soft green with warmly lit sconces. I ate the goat cheese salad which had a very light vinaigrette and thinly sliced julienne apples. The salad was a 5/5! The salad was accompanied by a piece of sour dough bread and red pepper hummus! Yummy! I am a connoisseur of crab cakes of which I highly recommend a new recipe. There were 3 nicely seared crab cakes on a bed of slaw and a side of wasabi sauce. The crab cakes were some of the worst I have ever tasted. They were overly breaded inside and it tasted like they used the sourdough bread. The sour flavor took from the crab. I would have had two crab cakes with way less filling. I had a nice Cabernet paired with my dinner. The salad and ambiance gave it a 4; otherwise it would be a 2. read more

One of the best dining experiences we have had in a long time. We started out with drinks from the bar and were not disappointed. The sourdough with red pepper hummus was deliciously unique. Next, we had the young greens salad (with mussels added on) and the Caesar salad to start. The pears in the young greens salad with the mussels made it fabulous. My dining partner had the crab & shrimp lasagna - he practically licked the plate at the end. I had the long-bone short ribs and couldn't have enjoyed it more. We took home a good part of the large portion and had the next day. We finished with coffee; dining partner had the vanilla cheesecake (sooo good per my friend) and I had the almond cake with anise ice cream. Moist, flavorful and maybe a bit overdone on the outside; the bake time was likely needed as the height of the cake is tall. We plan to return in the spring on our next overnight trip so that we can enjoy more of the menu selections. Chef Fraser stopped by table to thank us for coming in and to make sure we were pleased. Simpli breathtaking. Ambiance was warm and inviting. Sat at the bar overlooking the kitchen. The chef greated me warmly and made sure I liked each course. Clam chowder was easily the best I ever had. I can't believe it's taken me so long to write this review! My boyfriend and I were RV'ing in the Oak Harbor area a few months ago and in the mood for a nice dinner. I had no idea such an amazing place existed in the area! We called for a reservation on what was a busy Saturday night, and were lucky to get a table at a reasonable hour. When we were arrived, we were greeted immediately and got a nice seat by the window, with a view of their open kitchen. I had looked up the restaurant on Yelp in advance (of course!) and recognized their owner working behind the counter along with the rest of his amazing team. We ordered a couple of cocktails, and started with an order of crab cakes to share. They were the perfect appetizer, served with a luscious-yet-mild wasabi-based sauce. Next, the dude got a ribeye, served perfectly and with seared asparagus, and I ordered the seared scallops with a homemade risotto. Since it happened to be St. Patrick's Day weekend, they had a sticky toffee pudding on special and - even though we were stuffed - we ordered it to share for dessert. It was sweet, decadent, and so delicious I kinda wish we'd ordered two (even though I probably would have exploded). What brought this amazing meal over the top was the amazing and friendly service we received. I've never thought of Oak Harbor as being a fine dining destination, but I wouldn't hesitate to make the drive here again for a special occasion (or if we're camping nearby again and don't feel like cooking). read more

Fabulous service, wonderful food, and an enjoyable environment. This was an unexpected treat. We started with cocktails and shared 2 apps. The brie and garlic fondue was luscious and perfect for the four of us to share. The dry ribs came with 4 pieces and they were very tender and we loved the little sauce (blackberry?). I had the duck pappardelle and loved the crumbled crispy skin garnish. I would have liked a little more :-). My other had the fried chicken and corn spoon bread and I couldn't keep my fork out of his plate. Also at our table was the crab and shrimp lasagna. It was beautiful and delicious. But very rich. Could have used something on the plate to give your pallet a rest. Lastly was the lovely rack of lamb with pistachio crust. We shared the profitero dessert and literally scraped the plate. My wife and I came here for our anniversary. We sat at the bar and I would highly recommend that experience to anyone. You get to sit right there as the talented chefs prepare the food, it is fascinating and smells incredible. Our food and drink were excellent and our server attentive. I am a vegetarian and despite living here a decade we hadn't been here because the menus we looked at online seemed to be pretty limited for vegetarians. That isn't currently the case. This is a lovely place in Oak Harbor. You walk in and there is an armoire with many coats hanging in it, good low lighting, tables with white tablecloths and the good vibe of people talking, laughing, enjoying themselves. So far, so good. I was dining alone and didn't have a reservation, but I called ahead and they said I could eat at the bar. There was no one standing at the hostess stand, so I stood and waited. And waited. And waited. I estimate I waited for 3-5 mins before someone checked in with me. There was a waiter who was taking care of a table near where I was standing and he attended to that table at least 3 times while I was waiting there and did not acknowledge me once. Not the best first impression. Finally someone came over, wrote my name in the reservation book, and took me to the bar. The bar was made of onyx and was lit from within - really beautiful - my spirits were lifted! The chefs are a little beyond the bar, so you can see them making all the dishes. They seem like a fun, chill group. Everything that comes out of the kitchen looks amazing, including their decadent desserts. My server came over right away and asked if I would like a drink. I'm a bit indecisive and had some questions and then still couldn't decide, so I asked her if she could come back in a few minutes. I knew what I wanted for dinner, so I ordered that. She never came back to ask me about my drink order, so I had to wave her down when she was walking by (I had already received my food). My cocktail was good. The food comes out at a nice pace; not too fast or slow. I had the goat cheese salad which was delicious and the black cod, also delicious. The chef was lovely with a substitution- I got these pickled veggies, which doesn't sound like anything special, but the flavor was out of this world. So much better than a side of flavorless zucchini or broccoli. As an aside, it seems like a lot of locals eat here, which is a good sign. On to dessert. They have beautiful desserts with 2 pastry chefs cranking them out. They have a dessert tray that they bring around to help you decide. That's not common nowadays and was a fun touch. My server was lackadaisical about describing the desserts: instead of "this is the chocolate espresso mousse with a vanilla bean whipped cream and crushed Biscoff cookies", she said "this is the chocolate mousse, this is the cheesecake." I'm sure she's tired of repeating the details about the desserts, but if you want to give excellent service, that's what you have to do. I was also indecisive about coffee or tea, but I told her I definitely wanted to get something. She never came back to inquire, so I just let it go. Overall, good food and atmosphere; unfortunately the service was not what you would expect from a fine dining establishment, but it wasn't so bad that it would keep me from returning again. Yum!!!!! By far and away this was the best place we dined at on Whidbey all week. Nothing else even came close. Totally worth the 45 minute drive from south Whidbey! The dining area is quit spread out, so you are not smushed up next to other diners. The service is stellar and the restrooms are lovely. Prices are high but reasonable given the service and food quality. We started with the Caesar salad. I got mine plain. Hubby got his with smoked mussels. The salads were so fresh and tasty and the mussels were delightful. Portions were quite generous. For our entrees hubby ordered red snapper and I went with the divine rack of lamb after a week of eating cloyingly sweet entrees at other establishments at, the savory chops were a breath of delectable fresh air. We visited twice. First time I did not take the risk and ordered lactose free items due to my lactose intolerance. Second time, they said they could accommodate it so I ordered a pasta with a cream sauce. Unfortunately they did not accommodate my intolerance and I spent a full night hanging a toilet on my birthday. Whoops! I guess they say fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. Finally, my advice, if you are going to have an open kitchen, at least wear gloves to show hygiene is important in your establishment. read more

So I've lived in Oak Harbor for 12 years and have never gone to Fraser's. I heard the food was amazing but it was upper class fancy pantsy food and restaurant, so I never went. Last night, I caved and gave it a try. Why in the world did I never even try?! The food was outstanding! The service was amazing! And the dessert...oh my. I had the scallops, my brother had the Sablefish and my dad had the pork chop. Some tomato's mozzarella and calamari to start. Oh god, it was absolutely delicious. I don't think I've had scallops that good in my life. They're not frozen and we're cooked fresh. Superb! The dessert we had was amazing as well. I originally made plans to visit Fraser's for New Year's Eve, but the snow and dark conditions returning to Coupeville on such a busy night cancelled that idea quickly. Instead I visited on my last night on the island after calling in reservations earlier in the day. The interior is not done justice by other's photos. It reminded me very much of a water-facing summer home. My dinner date and I both enjoyed the mussels as a starter then the house special of the night (wagyu, carrots, roasted veggies, the yummiest mashed potatoes ever, and a mushroom sauce out of this world). I especially loved the cheesecake I had as dessert! The chef himself was so very courteous to check on us at the end of our meal, as well. I have become extremely picky about my food following food poisoning at a highly rated establishment in Las Vegas earlier this year and as a result am pretty cautious on the recommendations I accept and make, but I must recommend this wonderful find in Oak Harbor. As an LA County native, the prices are more than fair for the caliber of food, the atmosphere is inviting, and the service is impeccable. Seeing as how I'll be relocating next year, this will surely become a frequented place. Please do try it out if you are ever in the area. read more

My only comment would be to lighten up on the sauces. My waistline is expanding! The desserts are always ALL very special and a highlight to end a fabulous meal. Can't pass them up! This is a terrific restaurant. Chef Scott Fraser is an artist in the kitchen. We spend a month on the other (south) end of Whidbey Island each summer and ALWAYS venture north at least twice to eat here. We had lamb cop's tonight with a wonderful salad and crab cakes. Last time it was seafood pasta, crab cakes, and creme brûlée for dessert. We like to sit at the counter and watch the chefs cook (requires a reservation usually). Great food, but not a "dress up" type place, although a coat and tie isn't out of place. Try it! You'll be glad you did! read more

Restaurant has a strange vibe. Large entry , coat rack and first thing you see is a for rent sign for a condo upstairs. The dining area gives me a sterile ballroom( no pictures , plants ) just white tables set up in random manner. We ordered a Manhattan which was watered down and they acted like we didn't know what we were saying. The owner made the drink and stared at my wife as if he knew more than we did. He came out later with an old fashioned he made for himself you could see it clearly had bourbon in it. He never came by to ask how dinner was or the wine. Fraser's is in a really pretty Victorian near the water in Oak Harbor but has no ocean view really. I think the majority of the high cost is due to the tablecloths, napkins and plate arrangements, which were very nice. The food is just ok. We had the tomato and mozzarella (they were out of burrito at 5pm) appetizer. It was ok, nothing special. Steak was ok, but their medium is everyone else's very rare. The potatoes and sauce were very good. My ppl shank had no flavor. The gnocchi was well prepared but the broccoli seemed raw still which gave the dish a strange texture. The sauce was good though. My husbands IPA was "eh", so just ok. Service was good, the place was clean, but for the cost, I didn't feel it measured up. read more

I will be using my most recent experience for this review. My wife and I had reservations at Fraser's for 7PM. We were celebrating our one year anniversary. Upon arrival we were sat, and also greeted by our server immediately. The server poured us glasses of water and asked if we would like anything else. Their soda options included: Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, sprite, root beer and orange soda. My wife had a root beer, while I chose to order off the wine menu. Their wines by the glass were very limited and most were only from Washington State, but I ended up choosing their Cabernet. For an appetizer my wife and I always choose their crab cakes, which comes with an Asian slaw and a wasabi sauce. We really enjoyed them however they had a little more of a crunch than we were used to nevertheless, still very good. For our entrees, I had the rack of lamb, cooked medium rare, and my wife had their special that evening which was a seafood paella. Both dishes came out with excellent presentation, my lamb was cooked to perfection and my wife's dish looked even better. Taste was absolutely wonderful for both dishes, there isn't anything we could find that was wrong with either dish. To finish off the evening, we ordered a raspberry cheesecake, made in house. Once again presentation was excellent and the food was even better! For the price of $160, before tip, for a couple having a three course meal in Oak Harbor's most upscale setting, the cost was great! We were celebrating our anniversary, and managed to book a same day reservation for 4:30 (I think they were booked the rest of the night which was expected for a Saturday. Since we were planning on going to the Drive in movies, an early dinner time was perfect for us (keep in mind this is also early December). It was nice and quiet, atmosphere was nice. They were attentive to serveware, making sure to change it out depending on courses served. Beverages were refilled promptly. Service was excellent. I like that the owners have been here for awhile and you can feel confident that your food will be well prepared and presented. I liked that there was a non dairy option as there were a lot of menu items that had a lot of cream or dairy, I wish there had been more options. I don't eat lamb but I hear that is another popular choice. I dont know that I would come back personally because I wasn't blown away by the dishes I had (see below), but there really weren't a lot of other choices on the menu if you have an issue with dairy like me. However I would recommend it to others who dont have my issues with dairy. For the start of our meal, (and not pictured) were the garlic ribs appetizer (comes as 4 ribs which I shared, it was lightly garlicky with dry garlic bits and the berry sauce was really unique), and the Caesar salad (which my husband said was perfect, aside from the olive cracker they served with it, but we are not olive fans). We were served bread slices from a local bakery (bread was dense, but I appreciate the shout out and support of a local business) and it came with a scoop of beet hummous in olive oil (it was ok, but not my favorite, but better than olive hummous which I have read they have served in the past). It looked pretty. The New York Strip Steak was cooked perfectly medium rare. Husband said it was fine, nothing negative to say about it. He feels he has made better sauce at home, but there was nothing bad about the sauce either. My daughter enjoyed her Smoked Pork shank and gnocchi carbonara, lots of protein on that bone. I can't comment on the taste but she finished it all and seemed to like it well enough. My dish was the Chicken & Southern Cast Iron Spoon bread. The chicken had a nice crunch but not a lot of flavor so that is what the honey was for (I read that it is a truffle honey butter, but I didnt really care for the flavor, I think I might have preferred a spicy honey or straight up plain honey). The spoon cake I thought was going to be like a cornbread but it was more like a dense eggy quiche with peppers in it. The pickled peppers on the side and the simple slaw were a nice accompaniment, the flavor of the slaw actually was the most memorable and tasty of everything on my plate. I didnt finish my dish tho, I took 3/4ths of it home, and have yet to be inspired to finish it. I feel like something was missing - all the elements were there (crunch, sweet, tang), but it was missing something, and I can't quite put my finger on it. The desserts were nicely presented and were nice for what they were. The creme brule had a crispy slice of dehydrated pineapple which was unique but didnt really have a lot of flavor (which was too bad), but it did add another layer of texture. The server was nice and plated the icecream from my dish in a separate dish for my daughter. Daughter said the ice cream had a caramel flavor? The Almond cake was ok, not too sweet, and the poached pear was a typical poached pear (it is nice to have tho since this is not something I would make at home myself). I felt the toffee crumbles and caramel smear were an odd addition and didnt really lend itself to the dish (but my daughter took to put on top of her ice cream). I think a cranberry or cherry sauce/ice cream would have been nicer than the caramel/toffee, to give the two blander items a bit of zing and tie in the fruit with the cake, as well as add color instead of from the singular strawberry. The caramel/toffee added sweet and contrast in textures but didnt really compliment well. I find almond pairs so nicely with tart berries like cranberries or cherries, maybe add more chocolate as well to add crunch. But this is just my perception (and suggestion, to make this something I would want to come back for), I am sure many others would disagree. Personal preferences and "how it has always been done". I really get the impression that they are really into textures and balance with their dishes, so I hope they appreciate that I noticed. I would definately recommend for a date night, birthday or anniversary celebration. I dont know what other options there are in this town, but my husband and daughter were very impressed with a local mexican restaurant here as well, so it seems that Whidby Island is a good place to check out good food and great service!
