Wow. I was walking around the Westwood Farmers Marker and stumbled upon this gem. We tried the lemongrass chicken plate with coconut lime rice and their pork belly rice. The flavors of these plates were insane. The rice was so fragrant especially cooked with kefir lime leaves, and the chicken was so so juicy, the pork belly so so tender and i LOVED the sauce that accompanied the plates. Flavor profile really reminds me of a mix between Vietnamese and Thai food (which kind of makes sense lol) but it still has a unique flavors/twist to it that I thoroughly enjoyed. We had Kreung Kitchen show up at our local LNY festival. My wife and I decided to share the sample platter and it was so good. I decided to pay extra for the coconut rice and short ribs to really try the best they had to offer. This plate was $30 so definitely not cheap but for festival fare, I'd say this is about what you'd expect nowadays for 2 portions worth. I've been eyeing Kreung Kitchen for many weeks. Tonight, we finally got a chance to check out the pop-up in Culver City. All I can say is that tonight's atmosphere and meals exceeded our expectations. Before I get to the food, I have to give a massive shoutout to Sam, the owner, and Christina, his partner, for being welcoming, sincere, and kind hosts. They truly embodied the culture of what it means to be Khmer people with their good vibes and energy. They instantly made us feel like family the moment we met. First, I should mention that I'm Khmer, and I agree with the owners of Kreung Kitchen - there aren't many Cambodian restaurants in Los Angeles, which is quite frankly a real bummer, as Cambodian food is incredible. Having just moved here, I was really craving Cambodian food. Second, tonight's food was really fire. This evening, we got the grilled chicken, twa ko, and slow-roasted pork belly, and everything was well-seasoned, well-grilled, and cooked to perfection. You know it's Cambodian food when there's lemongrass! They also made tirk trey koh kong, which is an incredibly addicting dipping sauce. By the end of my meal, I was dousing everything in it. My partner also really enjoyed his plate, and we're already planning our next trip out to see them again! We've gone to their pop-up in Culver City twice now. The first time we got the beef skewer combo and the skewer and chicken combo. The second time we got their combo #3 which had all the meats avail that day which was so many! It came with pork belly, beef skewers, chicken, and short ribs. The pork belly melts in your mouth--this is just a preference of mine but I like my pork belly cooked well done. But they cooked it to perfection. Happened to find this gem of a pop-up through yelp trying to find a random Asian meal while running errands. The food here is pretty amazing! It's pretty hard to find Cambodian food in West LA. It's run by a cute young family and everyone is so sweet! Their daughter is super sweet and a social butterfly and probable aspiring artist who loves to speak to all the guests and giving them her art work (5 second sketches, adorable!). It's a pretty wholesome experience. I got their combination plate which included lemongrass beef skewers, pork ribs, prawns, pickled cabbage, corn, and seasoned rice. The prices are pretty reasonable considering how much quality food you get, but I like to support small local businesses. I had a couple bites in my car and had to come back just to get a plate for my friend. They rotate at different locations and grill their food to order. I just had the most amazing food today ! It was a random food purchase while enjoying a wine flight at Bar and Garden. The food was tasty , flavorful, and just so freaking good! I ordered the combination which had everything and was more than enough for two people (although i ate it all!) the rice had so much flavor ! They popped up at my local brewery, Tortugo Brewing Co. I had the combo plate with chicken thigh and lemongrass beef skewer. Thighs were very good, but the star of the show was the beef. Wow! It was juicy, tender, and cooked to perfection. It had the perfect amount of char marks. The price is fair for the amount of food you get, but more importantly the food quality is reflective of the pricing. You can tell the chef/owner(s) really care about the ingredients they cook with. It is a small pop up located at Bar and Garden on Thursdays and Fridays near the Arts District of Culver City. When we got there, the owner, Sam let us try a couple of the beef skewers and we were hooked! We ended up getting the combo plate so we could try all of the different meats (beef skewers, chicken thigh, & pork belly). They were all amazinggggg. All of them were so tender and beautifully marinated. While it's hard to choose a favorite, the pork belly definitely stood out as it was the perfect amount of lean and fatty. Everything else on the plate was delicious as well and balanced each other out. We definitely ate every last morsel as everything was just so good and finished the meal feeling very satisfied yet surprisingly not weighed down. Afterwards, we went to tell Sam how much we enjoyed his food. He is an absolute sweetheart whose mission is to bring good Cambodian food to the westside.
