I kept hearing about Miya Miya from friends, so of course I had to go see what the hype was about. It's basically a food stand set up outside the Edge apartments in Santa Monica, kind of like those late-night taco stands you see all over LA. Super casual setup, but you can tell it's popular. I think they're planning to open a full shop eventually. Parking wasn't too bad, just metered street parking nearby. We got there around 3:30 pm on a Friday... and there was already a line. They don't even open until 4:30. One of the workers came and told us it would be about an hour wait once they opened, so we decided to stick it out. I brought a book, my husband had his games and stuff to study, so we were prepared to hang out for a bit. We didn't get our food until 6:30 pm so yeah, definitely longer than expected. Everything is made fresh right after you order, so even once you finally get to the front, there's another 10 to 20 minute wait while they assemble everything. Also, each person can only order 2 shawarmas, which makes sense because everyone's already been waiting forever and goes all in. The owner was very friendly hospitable and appreciative that everyone was waiting for their food. The staff were upbeat happy , listening to music and vibing while cooking everything. We ended up getting 4 chicken shawarmas (that's the only option) "Yaz way" which comes with spicy garlic sauce and Jordanian pomegranate molasses, plus the beef tallow fries topped with fresh za'atar. And honestly... it was worth it. The shawarma was SO good. Like 11/10. The chicken was super tender and juicy, packed with flavor. They dip the top of the wrap in extra garlic sauce and pomegranate molasses, so your first bite is insanely good... messy in the best way, dripping with sauce, tangy, garlicky, a little spicy. And somehow the last bite is just as good. The garlic sauce actually has a real kick to it, not overwhelming, but enough to wake up your taste buds. And the pomegranate molasses? That was the star for me. It adds this tart, slightly sweet flavor that cuts through the richness perfectly. It's such a unique combo and works so well. The fries were also really good, crispy and savory with that beef tallow flavor, and the za'atar on top gave it a nice herby finish. There's some seating nearby in the apartment complex area by Gelson's, so you're not just standing around trying to eat. I ate one shawarma there and saved the other for the next day, and it was still delicious, which says a lot. Would I go back? Yes... but definitely not for a 3-hour wait again If the line is like 20 to 40 minutes, I'm there. My friends and I all agreed this was decently good shawarma, but NOT worth the ridiculous 1 hour 40 min wait time. The workers could have easily served customers faster or given people a text notification when the order was ready for pick up, but to be honest it looked extra slow to build up the line/fake hype. The wrap itself was hella skinny and needed much more garlic sauce than the small dollop they put at the very top. Chicken was pretty dry after several bites. Even if you don't order fries (yum) or the yaz way sauce, they'll give you a little bit anyways to sample for free. Overall, save your money and time... it was not worth the wait whatsoever. There really needs to be a clear sign posted when items are sold out instead of relying on telling the last customer in line. Unfortunately, those customers didn't notify anyone behind them, so about 30 people continued waiting in line only to be turned away. We also drove a long distance to come here, so it was especially disappointing. If you're only open a few days a week, it's frustrating that there isn't enough meat to last even four hours of service. The highlight of this experience was honestly the owner, Yass, genuinely one of the nicest people you'll meet. He made a 2.5-hour wait feel bearable, which is saying a lot. But would I stand in that line again for shawarma? Not a chance. As for the food itself, it just wasn't for me. The flavors didn't land, the sauces weren't my thing, and the only thing I actually enjoyed was the crunch. I'm starting to wonder if shawarma simply isn't my food though my boyfriend would disagree. He liked it, and while he's equally firm about never reclaiming those 2.5 hours of his life, he'd eat it again if they ever opened a brick-and-mortar with no wait. Also, we hated the fries. That said, I'm genuinely rooting for Yass. He left a career in finance after losing his father to pursue this, and you can feel the heart behind it. Absolutely insane!! I've heard and seen so much about Miya Miya and finally got to try it. We did wait 2 hours which was insane - I loved it but can't wait for the actual storefront to open up so maybe the lines can be a bit faster & more days open. It's an outdoor space for now and is a stand which is amazing but definitely can cause much longer waits. The food is SO GOOD. The quality is truly worth it and the crisp was my favorite! Disclaimer: I would give this a 4.5, my husband would give a 5! We stood in line for 2 hours to get Miya Miya yesterday, and, overall, it was worth it. We got there at about 4:10 (it opened at 4:30), and the line was already insane. The flavor was SO good. The fries were crisp to perfection, and the garlic sauce is delicious. Each person can get two shawarmas and they are sooo good. (IMPORTANT NOTE: you can't order for people who are not in line! You can only get 2 shawarma pp for those IN LINE ONLY - this caused a lot of distress for people in front of us). We got two of the shawarma (yaz way), one fry to split, and two extra garlic sauces. I liked having a sauce to dip the fries in, but we only needed one. Good to know for next time! I also would have loved the option to get the spicy sauce on the side too, but hopefully that can be in the shop when it opens. The shawarma looks kind of small but is pretty deceiving - I was full after one, but I thought I could easily put down two. I did, however, eat a good bit of my second one about two hours later The food was bomb, and the people who work there are super nice. There are influencers everywhere, and there was an entire camera crew following Chef Yaz yesterday. It was pretty chaotic, but it hit the spot. Would I come back? Yes. Would I wait in line for another 2 hours? Also yes. BUT we didn't have plans yesterday and my husband and I were just planning on hanging out at home, so it was perfect. Just like everyone else, we came across Miya Miya from social media. We were nearby on a Friday close to opening time and decided to try our luck. The line wasn't that long but did go down to the corner almost. It took almost 2 hrs to get to the front of the line and this was at 4:30PM. We ordered at 6:15PM and got our food at 6:30PM. They were limiting order to 2 per person so we ordered 4 wraps, 3 of them Yaz way and the fries. It smelled really good and it did look good and crunchy. There is a ton of seating around back which was nice. However, we were a bit disappointed once we ate it. The meat wasn't as flavorful as we anticipated and the sauce wasn't either. The pomegranate molasses was probably the best thing on it but they do need to make the garlic sauce more flavorful for it to pack a punch. The wraps were also very thin and didn't have many pickles or much else in them. However, the fries were immaculate. They were perfectly crunchy and the zaatar spice was a great touch. They should add that spice to the garlic sauce or meat. The owner and workers were very kind. We figured out that the main reason the line moves slow is because the owner took time to speak to and get to know every customer which was very thoughtful. Yaz is great. I saw this place in a viral Instagram video claiming that it is the best shawarma that person ever had. I just had to try it as I have been to Istanbul and tried some of amazing shawarmas before. Strike 1: the line was huge. We arrived around 4pm on a Saturday. The line was super long and people in line said it is 2 hour wait. We committed. We got our food at 6:20pm. There is no reason for them to have such a long line- they would really benefit from a good operations manager. Currently it is a chaos because the same person who takes your order is also answering questions, tracking the line, bringing out ingredients they are missing in the shawarma assembly station. Strike 2: after we have waited for an hour, the owner comes out and says they are limiting orders to one per person to make sure they can serve everyone in line. They have been serving 2 per person for the first several hours and then cut it to 1 per person. While we were in line, several people were bringing in friends to join them ahead of us and they got away with it. Strike 3: Food was good but not great. Definitely NOT worth the wait. As we were leaving, we ran into the owner and he asked us what we thought and we honestly said the meat was not as flavorful as it is being positioned and he agreed that this is what happens when you get the meat from the bottom of the spit - the meat is not as well marinated there. He also said they "usually" don't serve the bottom of the spit but because of the hype they were today. The Positive: thy are opening a restaurant at the same spot in the summer. One would hope they figure out their kinks and maybe read Goldratt's "The Goal" to improve operations, then it would be worthwhile going there, ordering and getting your food in 10-15 mins. I did it. I waited in line for the Friday night shawarma. It wasn't as bad as the previous reviews lead me to believe. They've probably gotten the system down over time. I got there at 4:10 and from line to sitting down with my food, I spent about an hour. The meat was delicious. I had it Yaz's way and my partner had it OG. The pomegranate molasses was great, but the spicy sauce was a bit overwhelming. Don't let that deter you though because it was so windy in the eating area that I ate it incredibly fast. I'm a little sad we happened to go when the weather made it difficult to enjoy. I did try a bite of the OG and you could really taste the seasoning on the meat in that one. I think it was actually better that way. The fries were crispy and well seasoned. I'd wait in line again, but really looking forward to the day this is a sit in restaurant! This a review from about a month ago. Came here about 15 minutes prior to opening on a Saturday and there was a long line down to end of the block almost. Ended up waiting for 1.5+hours by the time we got our food. Got the wraps and tallow fries. The fries were too salty but the wraps were good. This was one of the best shawarmas we've had in the States. The wait time was definitely long--we waited about an hour and a half just to place our order, and another 30 minutes to receive our food. Despite the wait, the staff was very nice and welcoming. They had music playing throughout the area, which really added to the atmosphere and built our excitement while waiting for the food. Yes, the line is worth it. I finally stopped by last Friday and enjoyed a chicken shawarma wrap. Staff is friendly but I will say, some are just standing around doing nothing. Literally nothing. It takes a good minute for the wraps to be made and then grilled, so I don't know if the 2-3 people standing around had nothing to do, were being trained, or what, but I feel like they could step in to speed up the process. I got in line about a half hour before they opened (4:30) and there were 12 people ahead of me. They opened a few minutes late and once they did, I ordered and got my wrap by 5pm, so it wasn't too bad of a wait. The wrap is toasted so nicely. It's crispy and crunchy and beautiful. We heard of Miya Miya through instagram and decided to check it out the day we had off as they are only one day a week. There's definitely some pros and cons to this place: Cons - 1. The wait! We got there a couple minutes before they open at 4:30 and there was already a line around the curb. I have been to pop ups before and I thought we would wait maybe an hour or 1.5 hours. However their set up was pretty small and the people that were working it were not moving as quickly as they should for a long line that they had. We ended up waiting 3 hours which honestly is never worth it no matter how good the food is. The owner was however very nice and tried to make the process as smooth as possible. I would like to come back maybe when they open a store front but I feel like at this time I would not come back solely due to the wait. 2. The assembly line. They were just not moving fast enough for the process. The wait for the food was 10-15 minutes which does not make sense as they only sell two items and the chicken is cooked already. I have been other shawarma carts in New York where the wait would be hours long but the line would move fast due to how fast the workers were moving. Pros - The food! It was so delicious! At first I thought the shawarma was very small but when you take a bite you realize how rich and full of flavor it is. Definitely one shawarma was enough for me. We got one the Yaz way and one plain with fries and extra sauces. The yaz way was full of the garlic and pomegranate sauce. While this was good, it was borderline a bit overwhelming and drowned out the chicken. The plain allowed you to taste the flavor of the chicken so I would recommend getting this and adding your own sauces. The fries were delicious and seasoned well. Miya Miya Chicken Shawarma is SO good. The chicken is super flavorful and perfectly cooked, and everything tastes really fresh. You HAVE to get it the Yaz way...it honestly makes the whole thing pop. Arrived at 4:30 pm and waited about an hour to order. The chicken shawarma was so good. I got it the Yaz way and was absolutely stuffed. They only allow two chicken shawarmas per person, so I saved one for the next day, popped it in the air fryer, and it was still delicious. The beef talow fries were also delicious and crispy. The team was incredibly friendly. I felt comfortable asking questions and really welcomed. They are set up near an area with tables, and we were able to find seating to enjoy our food. SO GOOD! I arrived around 12:30 on a Saturday and waited about 45 minutes. Worth every minute. There's a 2 shawarma limit per person, but it's genuinely filling, and the leftovers reheat perfectly next day in a toaster oven or air fryer. Definitely get it the Yaz way. The pomegranate sauce is incredible (I'd buy a tub of it). & something about the way the wrap is fried makes it impossibly cravable. After seeing them on TV, Miya Miya had been on my must-try list--and I finally went on a Friday. The menu is minimal but focused: a chicken shawarma wrap, beef tallow fries and bottled/canned drinks. Service is friendly--almost too friendly. The cashier chats warmly with customers, but with a long line behind (easily 100+ deep), that friendliness slows things down. I'm sure I was not the only one who noticed as I observed other folk's face looking visibly annoyed. Expect a long wait of 1-2 hours. I arrived at 5:10 PM for their 5:30 opening, only to find they had a delay and didn't open until 6:30. An unexpected extra hour standing in line. Ambience is pure street pop-up--outside a Gelson's, casual and buzzy. They validate parking for 90 minutes. Would I go again? Yes. Would I wait over an hour and 15 minutes again? Was very excited when my friend and I found out about this spot opening up. Just to mention the restaurant itself isn't opening till closer to end of year but in the meantime you are able to get the chicken shawarma wrap & beef tallow fries during their pop ups on Friday evenings at this location. Fun vibes when we went and everyone was friendly and attentive. The fries were delicious. Perfectly seasoned, full of flavor, & crispy. It went well with the chicken shawarma wrap. My friend and I both did the Yaz way which we both think is the way to go. It wasn't spicy at all for us but added more flavor, especially the pomegranate molasses. The garlic sauce and pickles contrasted yet paired very well with the chicken. Truly a burst of tasty flavor. The Saj bread was delicious, thin and perfect to hold in all the flavors. Yazeed (Yaz) and Farhad are a passionate team that will take their time to get to know customers and give them a personalized experience. Beyond the fact that they make one of the best shawarma wraps in SoCal, I know that Miya Miya will succeed based off of the way that they approach one of the most important parts of the restaurant business: hospitality. Only one thing that I would change for Miya Miya is the inclusion of some dairy-free sauce options. I'm talking about pure garlic paste and house made harissa hot sauce. As a person that prefers options like that I think my experience at Miya Miya would be even better with that included. I still tried the house spicy garlic sauce though and I have to tell you... it's very tasty. If there was a way to make it nondairy I'd be stoked. Truly I loved my meal here and can't wait for the brick and mortar location; I'm confident that the food will be even better once they have a dedicated kitchen and possibly more options. We waited just about an hour in line, the chicken shawarma is $12, took a couple of bites--and then found a full strand of hair embedded inside the wrap. Total appetite killer. But for a spot with long lines, there's no excuse for lapses in cleanliness. Hair nets or protective covers should be a basic standard, especially for a place this popular. Quality control matters. I did have high expectations coming in and was aware of the long wait time. I would say the food itself was 4 stars however due to the insane wait time, overall it was 3 stars. I do think there needs to be a better system to get the food ready quicker. The food was good. I liked the crunchiness of the wrap, the pomegranate sauce and the chicken was really soft. However, I wish there was more filling inside and more pomegranate sauce drizzled. For the price, I did think the portion was small. There was so much hype around this and I am not too far away from it that I decided I needed to wait in line and try for myself. I went an hour and a half before because it originally said that they were open at 5:30 but it ended up being later so be sure to check their Instagram for time changes! The food itself was good, I did really like their different sauces they use and appreciate that the fries are spiced and flavored, but I don't think I would wait in that line again. I had envisioned the shawarma wrap to be more Greek style in the sense that it was more full/packed with other things but it was a lot thinner didn't have as much inside. I also didn't know there would be pickles which threw me off and I wasn't the biggest fan of. I think maybe once they have a store and the lines get shorter, I would definitely try it again but for now it was pretty subpar for me. read more

I arrived about an hour before closing, only to be told they were "sold out" and could not serve me, even though I could clearly see plenty of meat still on the rotisserie. The way the situation was handled felt dismissive and unprofessional. If a restaurant is going to stop serving before closing time, that should be made clear to customers instead of wasting people's time. This is by far the best authentic mediterranean Arabic chicken shawarma I've ever had in my life. Just wow so crispy and even garlic and other sauces across the entire sandwich. Perfect ratio of chicken and sauces - what an amazing consistency and harmony between the ingredients. We also got the shawarma which is mild spicy and it's the best to get! The fries are also amazingly crispy. Service was very good even though they limited us to 1 sandwich per person. Note: they currently have a limit of 1 shawarma and 1 fry per person to accommodate everyone who is waiting for 1-2 hours in line. But it's still worth it. read more
