    Nasi Kuning
    Carlo G.

If you're craving Indonesian food on the cheaper side in the Culver/Westside area, this spot is a decent option. I visited this restaurant on an early Monday evening and there were little to no patrons there. The interior is small, but comfy and there's also an outdoor seating area. There were a lot of different things on the menu, but I ended up ordering the Nasi Kuning because it came with a bit of everything. Firstly, the tumeric fried chicken. It was good and crispy, but on the dryer side which I don't prefer, but a lot of Southeast Asian cuisine likes their meat well done. Next is the yellow coconut milk rice which was flavorful and fluffy. The egg balado and perkedel were good, but I was a bit disappointed with the fried noodles. They seemed old and not very flavorful. This was all a good portion size for $16.50 and I left pretty full. The staff here are super nice and even asked me if I was Indonesian haha! There's also a parking structure behind the restaurant you can park at. Overall, I think this is a solid Indo restaurant and while it's not mind-blowing, I'd still recommend.

A gem of a find! It's a refreshing change of flavors in the asian food scene on this side of LA. The Sate has a mild sweetness with the creamy peanut butter. Beef potato had a nice little kick. Soto Mie was not that spicy but tasty. Tender beef chunks and the cabbage comes together nicely. Great flavors and great price. Would definitely come back again to try their Nasi Goreng.

Best Indonesian food in LA for me! They introduced the dish in a wrap paper. I felt lik unwrapping a gift. We ordered perdkel (potatop) , chiken sati and nasi bungkus (beef ,rice , egg , chicken and greens) very delicious Prices are great! Restaurants cleaness and the service is very great! Staff are friendly and professional. They gave us great suggestions for food. Vines are comfortable.

Ambiance: it's a family style Indonesian restaurant with limited seats inside, and a small cozy patio outside, and it's a poplar takeout place serving regulars nearby Service: friendly and attentively refilled water Food: plenty of skewers, noodles and rice dishes, combos have the best value here CHICKEN SATE - *** Soy marinaded chicken pieces in sticks BEEF POTATO - ***** Dry marinaded beef topped with homemade balado sauce, tender and juicy, highly recommend SHRIMP BALADO - **** Grilled shrimp with homemade balado sauce, tomato, & scallion, light refreshing taste, recommend BABI - *** Sweet soy marinaded pork in sticks PERKEDEL - *** Indonesian fried patties made of mashed potatoes, minced meat, & scallion, soft texture NASI KUNING - **** Yellow coconut milk rice with a side of Turmeric fried chicken, Egg balado, Perkedel & Fried noodle, variety of ingredients, recommend SOTO MIE - ** Mildly spicy beef based noodle soup, with egg noodles, shredded cabbage, diced tomatoes, mild flavor, not spicy Price: generous portions and affordable prices, about $25 per person for a fulfilling meal

The actual nasi bungkus before I inhaled it

Food: 10/10 nasi bungkus is a definite! Sambal terasi, pempek, sate ayam, nasi goreng, soda gembira gado-gado are amazing! I love their sambal terasi! It's close to my preferred taste and so good in my palate. Service: Fast, attentive and accommodating to us as first comers. They gave great recommendation and are nice people Ambience: I don't need great ambience to enjoy good food. I need real good food to enjoy. I still want to comment this place is clean and tidy.

Use to pass by this place almost everyday when I use to live down the street, never tried it, now I have been coming here frequently. Food here has so much flavor and great portions. I highly recommend the Soto Mie and the Nasi Kuning. Service is great and ambiance is just a basic mom and pop restaurant. Give it a try!

Had a Mie Ayam craving and ordered it here. The dish had all the components, smell, flavor of a legit indo mie ayam, including the broth, veggie, and meatballs. However, the noodle type was a bit different from what indonesians would typically use, which is completely fine for me. I'd say my craving was satisfied and the prices are friendly. Plenty of parking too. I really enjoyed my meal and will absolutely be coming back. :)

Air chips. Not sure of the menu name but really good. We had garlic and the shrimp flavor.

So delicious. Very simple restaurant with cool wall art and artifacts and music playing via music videos. The food is delicious and affordable. It's nice to see a restaurant in LA keep things simple so going out can be affordable. Ended up going back a few nights later. Highly recommend for inside dining or takeout.

We started with the Roti Paratha, which arrived warm and flaky alongside a rich curry dipping sauce. For shared plates, we ordered the Bali Sea Bass and Stir Fry Water Spinach. The sea bass was beautifully prepared with layers of spice and aromatics, plus just enough heat to keep every bite interesting. The water spinach arrived sizzling at the table, adding to the experience and making the dish feel fresh from the wok. For noodles, my son ordered his usual favorite, the Mie Tek Tek, while my daughter chose the Mie Ayam, which she thoroughly enjoyed. To drink, we had white wine, Terra beer, and a Thai iced tea that came with a cute presentation. There was a small hiccup when our beverages were forgotten, but the staff handled it well and kindly comped our appetizer, which we appreciated.

We had the baked pork chop so food took about 20 / 25 minutes or so to come out. Tasted just like childhood! Milk tea also tasted very familiar. I was happy about these two items. The grilled chicken with black pepper sauce was just so so in comparison. Gave it 3 stars because there were flies flying around the patio. Covered trash cans might reduce this problem a bit. Price is also on the higher side. $6 milk tea was not very worth it. She told us that we could be seated at the bar immediately, which is what we opted for. She placed us at a lower portion of the bar with two seats, which was perfect. The bartender, Justin took our drink and dinner order and I have to say, he makes amazing cocktails! We had egg rolls for an appetizer, which arrived very quickly and went well with our cocktails. I ordered a rye old-fashioned and my wife ordered a house creation, "Jesuit's Tea Party," which she enjoyed. For our entrees, I ordered Hainan Chicken and my wife had the Walnut Shrimp. The restaurant was previously called Status Kuo and then rebranded to Little Fatty. It is also attached to a bar called Accomplice Bar. [Parking]: Metered parking only and I was able to find a spot two blocks away on Grand View Blvd. [Reversation]: For parties of 6 and smaller, reservations can be made on Resy. For parties of 8 and larger, there is a minimum spend of $75 per person prior to tax & gratuity. No-show fee = $15 per person. [Experience]: The receptionist greeted our party just outside of the restaurant and checked us in. Outdoor tables were available, but our party opted for indoor seating. The lighting was dim with a romantic and casual dinner vibe. At the end of the meal, the staff offered our table hot towels to clean our hands. [Menu]: Menu highlights on Resy include Chinese BBQ Pork, XO Fatty Noodles, Walnut Shrimp. Other Yelp highlighted items include Orange Chicken, Beef Roll, and Hainan Chicken. Burger Tuesday is offered ONLY at the bar. A bowl of rice is an extra $4.00. The staff also gave our table a cute cocktail menu with drinks named after each LA neighborhood. *** Squid Ink Xiao Long Bao (shrimp and pork soup dumplings, fresh ginger - $18.00): Only came with 6 pieces of dumplings. The dough was a bit thick and the flavor was just alright. XO Fatty Noodles (rolled rice noodles, XO sauce, bean sprouts, garlic chives, fried shallots - $22.00): The noodles tasted slightly salty. I couldn't tell whether I had sliced pork belly or flat noodles in the dim lighting and it turned out to be thick slices of flat noodles. Orange Chicken (orange soy-based sauce, dried chilies, orange zest - $22.00): Super crispy orange chicken, but it was crunchy type of crispy and tasted a bit dry. Walnut Shrimp (mayo, candied walnuts, sesame seeds, red cabbage - $25.00): his dish came with lettuce and looked really nice. The flavor was solid and it tasted very healthy. *** Personally it was an overpriced experience for mediocre Asian fusion food. I would much rather visit Jade Rabbit in Santa Monica for cheaper and more delicious Asian fusion food or Din Tai Fung in Santa Monica for a more consistent dumpling and noodle experience. The only reason to come here is for the date-night vibe. Honestly, the food tasted more like Northern Chinese fusion cuisine than Taiwanese fusion cuisine.

Extremely cute, green, and well decorated. Price was extremely reasonable- spent around $230 (including tip) for all the below + a drink. Let's get into the food. Appetizers: Pork Dumplings - 8/10 (GF rating 8/10) These were great. The inside was solid, outside was acceptable, and crunch on top was great. The sauce absolutely made it. Quite a good choice. Curry Puffs - 9.5/10 (GF rating 10/10) Delicious. You won't regret getting these. Pastry outside is amazing, inside is even better, tamarind makes it EVEN better. Just keeps getting better. Get them. Chicken Larb - 9/10 (GF rating 7.5/10) Very tasty. The sauce it's in is amazing and the flavor profile is just great. Highly recommend. Crispy Pork Belly Salad - 8/10 (GF rating 9/10) Also very good. The flavors all fit together extremely well. I'm not a fan of pork belly but this was done great. Main: Beef short rib - 10/10 (GF rating 10/10) Holy shit. We were so full at this point, it was unfortunate we couldn't finish this, because it was so good. Most tender beef I have ever had. I went at it with a fork, expecting to have a tiny bit of give, but it just fell off the bone, effortlessly. Easier than gliding through softened butter. I also normally don't like fatty pieces due to the texture/chewiness, and was worried I wouldn't like this dish as short rib is quite fatty. I absolutely LOVED the fat on this. It was impeccably rendered. Genuinely the best beef short rib I have ever had. The sauce and cilantro + peanuts it was paired with was a perfect flavor combination as well. Came with a delicious bread as well (naan-esque?) Dessert: Underwhelming, unfortunately. Got all 3. Thai Tea Pudding - 6/10 (GF rating 2/10) Pudding underneath was decent. Boba on top with the sauce was not. Boba not marinated in honey, just chewy bland boba! The custard itself was also not very reminiscent of Thai tea. Vanilla Soft Serve Sundae - 6/10 (GF rating- 5/10) Vanilla ice cream itself was very good. The salted caramel, not particularly, nor the Milo brownie on top of it, and the peanuts didn't pair well with it either. Very mid. Strawberry Basil Shaved Ice - 2/10 (GF rating 7.8/10) GF LOVED THIS. Of all the desserts here, she thought this was the best. I just didn't like this one a single bit. The shaved ice on top was fine but it was a very thin layer and was more about what was underneath (passionfruit pieces, tapioca-like balls, and coconut), which just wasn't it for me.
