They must taste amazing, 'cos everything I got my dog LOVED. I spend a bundle here on treats, and will likely continue to spend bundles here, because my dog is everything. read more

This rating is for our experience with the groomer. If I was rating the store, I'd give them 4 stars for their products, which are great, but really expensive. I returned to get my dog groomed, even though our previous groomer, Charlie, no longer works there. Instead, we got Brian. I was told he had been grooming dogs for 20 years and was assured he would be great. Well, when we arrived, I explained that I wanted my dog's hair cut down to 1/2 inch left. I explained that I was emphasizing that I wanted it to be 1/2" long because in the past I've told groomers that, but they'd left it longer, so I wanted to make sure Brian understood what I wanted. Still, Brian looked confused. So then he brought out a tool that they use to determine what clipper size to use - it had one inch rulers on it, so I able to point to exactly how long I wanted it on the ruler. Still Brian looked confused. He suggested that we go in the back and run the clippers through my dog's hair so I could tell him if it was right or not. I declined because my dog has severe separation anxiety and it would be worse for my dog if we didn't just do a clean break and have me leave from the front. So we talked more about the fact that I wanted my dog's hair to be a half inch long, pointed again to the inch marker and to the half-inch line, and told Brian that I needed him - as the professional - to know what clipper size to use. I figured even if he chose the wrong one to start with, then he would be able to see and determine if the hair was the right length or not, and change the clipper attachment as needed so that it would leave 1/2" on my dog. I was wrong. When I picked him up, his hair was one and a half inches long! Brian said that my dog was having a hard time standing, so I asked if that had been a problem, but Brian said no. At the time, I was with my friend and did not want to make a scene, but I also didn't have another 2-3 hours to stay and have Brian fix it. So we left. When I got home, I measured to make sure it wasn't my imagination. It wasn't. Sure enough, the length of his hair was 1.5 inches long - an ENTIRE INCH LONGER than I'd very specifically explained repeatedly with Brian. Because my dog has such bad separation anxiety, I did not want to bring him back to Brian and have it redone another day. Instead, after paying $91 ($15 of which was a tip) to get my dog professionally groomed, I re-did the whole thing myself. Of course it's choppy and doesn't look fantastic, but it was better than putting my dog through another visit to the groomer. read more

I think you are better off going to Amazon or Petsmart. It's not a small business; the layout is not safe for pets; the customer service and knowledge of products is less - the Petsmart on broadway is much better if that's what you are looking for (still missing Jameson Loves Danger on Clark); and the prices are at least double Amazon. Such a huge fan of Kriser's! This small chain offers a variety of food, treats, chews, supplements, toys, and other accessories/supplies for your furry friend! They also offer grooming services in the back where there seemed to be many patrons coming by to make appointments. When we stepped in, we were greeted warmly; it was a very relaxed vibe where you can peruse to your heart's content, which I much appreciated! They had some cute leashes, a great selection of treats that were competitively-priced, and even baked treats! Don't forget to sign-up for their loyalty/rewards program :D I also loved that the store was collecting food donations for shelter pets - LOVE LOVE LOVE. We've been going to Kriser's ever since we moved into the neighborhood 2 years ago. The staff are always friendly, helpful and talkative. There's a real sense of an animal loving community here. Pricing is a bit higher but it feels great to support a local business. I had a small issue with the pricing of a grooming service - a staff member told me one thing but apparently she was mistaken - but the manager was able to resolve it swiftly which I appreciated immensely! read more

They are real animal lovers with great people skills, and the store has a good selection of toys, food, treats, and dental supplies. We had a "groom-ergency" on the Friday before Thanksgiving and called every cat groomer we could find on yelp, hoping someone would be able to assist us with our 15-year old ragdoll cat. Kriser's was amazing! While they didn't have any opportunities that day to provide grooming services, the groomer offered to open an hour early so she could accommodate our high-priority request. We are so deeply grateful for the staff at Kriser's. They seemed to really understand the discomfort our cat was experiencing, as well as the stress it was creating for him and worked with us on a resolution instead of just turning us away as so many others in the neighborhood did. I thought my dog was terrified of the groomer, but it must have been the old place I was taking her to! Not only did she look super clean and happy when I picked her up, the groomer was actually able to cut her nails down, which is something we haven't been able to do. I will say, she didn't really smell any different, but maybe they used an unscented shampoo? I ended up buying a new harness and leash by Ruffwear, and I'm so happy Krisers carries that brand. Used to go to Bentleys for supplies and an independent groomer, but Kriser's was closer to my new place AND they have a groomer on site, so I thought I'd swing by with my little angel for some services and snacks. LOVE IT! The groomers treat my girl like the queen she is. Wish I could remember the name, but I'll try to get it next time I'm in. Very attentive, very friendly, very pet focused. I have been a loyal customer of Kriser's since we moved to Andersonville. This review is for the grooming service. The groomer was late for the appointment. Although it's only 10 mins late, but the appointment was 9:30AM and the store opened at 10, so I did not know if i should wait till 10 or just go home. It's disrespectful of other people's time, especially on a weekday before work hours. Then I clearly told her "Please do not trim down his face, i want a full, round, fluffy face." and she said she got it. When I picked up my dog I was shocked. Sure enough the face is trimmed down to skin and he looks like a rat. When I called back to address the issue, she had bad attitude and raised her voice and went off on me. Totally unacceptable. Also they asked you to tip before you see the result. This is also not right. We should be able to tip based on the service and result. Overall it was not a good experience, I would not recommend the grooming service at this store. read more

We were very excited to finally get our dog groomed and made an appt at this location, called and confirmed. Upon arrival we learned the appointment was incorrectly confirmed for the wrong date. We never got an email or call indicating this. The gentlemen at the register went back and was asked the groomer if they'd be able to still take our appt.we could see them talking. he came back out and tried to tell us the groomer had left for the day, even though he was clearly just talking to her and another dog had just come out of their salon. We rearranged our work schedules and other appointments to make this work. Also they don't close till 7p so the fact that the groomer couldn't take a 3p appointment is baffling. I'm very disappointed with the overall service I have received at Kriser's in Andersonville. The communication I have received from them is horrendous. I have scheduled my little Morkie, Coco, for a grooming service 5 times recently all 5 times they've been canceled and some last minute calls. I've "not been in the system" even though I've visited 2 times before then. On another occasion the groomer, Destiny, was sick and had to cancel with almos 10 days for Coco to get rescheduled again. The staff have also made scheduling mistakes because apparently I have two different accounts under my name and they made the excuse that it happened because I scheduled online, which I don't do. I always call to schedule appointments for Coco. The most recent time I've tried to get Coco groomed, Destiny had to cancel for an emergency. Thus I got rescheduled for over a week later. They told me I should call to confirm my appointment and I did because I never got a call or text to confirm the appointment. I'm glad I did because I learned that the agreed upon reschedule date was wrong and it was still another week away when it wasn't my fault and they did this twice. That was enough to make me not want to go back. I chose to take Coco to Destiny because she "specializes" in smaller dogs. She does an ok job, not the best, but not the worst I've seen. She also seems to not follow directions that well, as everytime I ask her for a teddy bear looking face on Coco, she always makes Coco look like a rat. I've never liked how Coco's final look turns out, especially the face. I've even had a bad experience in the past where I've left Coco with Destiny for a grooming and when she was done, Coco was limping. Destiny said that she didn't know what I was talking about. Coco was limping for 6 days afterwards and it was very concerning to me. Ever since then I've been worried every time I leave her for a grooming that she won't be taken care of properly, like she should be. Everything that I have mentioned made me not want to return with Coco to Kriser's as I no longer trust the staff with my dog and I no longer see them as a credible business. read more

I was treated horribly by the staff and the new groomer Charlie. My dogs were slightly matted and after explaining what I wanted done, I received numerous calls from the groomer asking me over and over what I wanted done and tried to get me to agree to shave the dogs. I finally said just do the best you can and I will not be bringing my dogs back. I then get a call from the assistant manager stating that they are stopping service on dogs since I said I would not be bringing them back and I needed to pick up my dogs, they had bathed them and were sending home wet. I was shocked. When I picked up that dogs they were wet, scared and shaking, one of my poor dogs had a red eye for days and both had colds for a week. Please do not take your dogs here! read more

The manager of this store is just impossible to work with. They repeatedly charged me for things I did not request for my grooming. Whenever I questioned this, they would say they were right and I was wrong, they did it so I have to pay. Then they rescheduled my appointment without telling me until 24 hours prior. When I finally got through, cause there is now voicemail and they don't pick up calls all the time during business hours, the manager was incredibly rude. They wanted to send me a screenshot to prove they called me from their system but see, I didn't get a call on my phone. Their only goal seems to be right at the expense of customer service or basic human kindness. I feel really bad for the nice groomers who have to work for this person as their work was just fine, but I will no longer go to this store. read more

I have been going to Krisers Andersonville for almost three years. I love it. They have my food (Small Batch), reasonable delivery fee, and great groomers--Taylor and Destiny. I am grateful. I don't know how they are able to groom my dogs, but they do. (I have reviewed before. This is an update.). My dogs: Alice, 6 pound Hava-Malt; Ella, 12 pound EngaPoo Shorkie. Doris is an amazing groomer. She is so gentle and sensitive to my 16 year old, frail dog with total vision loss. I have looked far and wide and can't find any other groomer who can or will do what she does. He is a curly haired, small dog, for which grooming is a must. I was unable to get an grooming appointment before our vacation at our regular groomer, so I was happy to see that Kriser's was having their grand opening the coming weekend. I called a few days before the store had opened, and I was pleasantly surprised when someone answered the phone and said they could give me a grooming appointment for my two dogs on the following Tuesday at 12:30p. I get a call from them at 12:11. They've lost power to the grooming salon, can they give me a new appointment? I tell them I need the appointment today, I'm leaving town tomorrow morning. They tell me they have an opening at 4pm, assuming they can get the power back on in the mean time. I tell them to please call me, I need to get this done today. I get a call back at 1:55. So sorry, your dogs are too large and will take too long and you can't have an appointment today (they're big honkers too, at 35 and 48lbs). Come back when you return from your vacation. We'll give you a discount. I'm not interested in a discount. I appreciate that you had a problem that was not in your control. If the power had been out for the rest of the day, I'd have chalked it up to my usual bad luck and moved on. But my dogs are too big and will take too long? No. I will never shop in one of your stores ever again. edited to add... I received a call from Kriser's district manager about an hour after posting this review. He spoke to my husband, was very apologetic, and asked how they could make this right. My husband told him we wanted the dogs groomed today. He said if we got there in the next 15 minutes they would be able to do it, so my husband walked them over (we're less than two blocks away). They told him at the store that there would be no charge for the grooming, and apologized again. I picked them up an hour and a half later, and the groomer did an excellent job. Both hounds are really clean, trimmed, and have nice trimmed nails. I'm not sure I'll ever shop there, or go back for grooming, at least until the bad taste leaves my mouth. I'll stick with my regular groomer a few blocks further away, but I appreciate the effort they made to placate me. read more

Elissa is a wonderful dog groomer. We were so worried about finding someone who could take care of our nervous elder cockapoo, when we ventured back into the city from Lake Forest. A neighbor suggested Elissa, who was at the Clybourn Krisers. We followed her when she moved to the Andersonville location, and are so grateful for her every time we bring Milo to her. Milo has some hot spots, and sensitive skin, and Elissa makes sure he doesn't come home with this much product still in his hair, which is a great help to the whole situation. I liked the store. Good selection, been shopping there since they opened this location. However there was one night I walked there, it started pouring rain while I was in the store buying a 30-lb bag of dog food. My phone died while I was in the store and the manager (Benji, I think) was kind enough to look up when the next bus was coming (7 minutes)- the stop is directly across the street from the store. After I purchased my bag of food, the manager promptly kicked me out at 7p, in the pouring treacherous rain. (store was closing) No umbrella. I was a little disheartened that she wouldn't allow me to wait there for 5 minutes. Perhaps because they work around animals all the time, they've forgotten how to deal with humans beings. This review is for grooming. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE We saw Eliza twice. The first time I asked for a puppy cut and she said that wasn't a grooming term and didn't understand what it meant. She ended up giving my dog a very short haircut which was good for the summer. Second time was this past weekend & I asked to leave his hair longer, trim the bum, and chest. When my dog ran out of grooming he seemed diff but I couldn't figure out why. She shaved off his whiskers! All of them. He is so disoriented and afraid to walk outside. A quick google search or call to the vet will explain why this is cruel. I am sick that I ever left my dog in Krisers hands. Never again!! read more

The staff immediately greets you when you walk through the door and helps you pick the best products for your fur babies without trying to oversell you on things you don't need. And the groomers are so gentle and loving towards the dogs, they really add that personable touch which made me feel very comfortable leaving my dog there for the first time. Taylor did an outstanding job!! I brought our 4 month old puppy in for a full service bath. It was her first grooming experience. Taylor was so good with our energetic pup and was like a dog whisperer. Our puppy came out looking like a princess and so well groomed. Taylor was so kind and gave us helpful tips for home. Let me start by saying that I do not leave Yelp reviews--but I'm so mad after I left Kriser's with my dog...this was the first and last time I will bring my dog to be groomed here. The groomer was very personable but did not listen when I asked her very kindly to NOT shave my Wheaten Terrier mix. I knew my dog had some small matted areas but it is something other groomers have always taken the time to trim/comb out. The groomer called me and informed me of the matting to which I told her to please take the time to comb/trim and again asked her to please NOT shave my dog. About two hours later (thinking they took the time to do as the customer requested) I come back to my pick up my dog and she is SHAVED. Not only that the trimming done around her face is haphazardly done and not even. I know it is hair, and it will grow back, but I am more upset at the lack of respect and listening to the customer's request on how they would prefer their dog to be (and NOT to be) groomed. Next time, go down the street to Jameson Loves Danger. Lesson learned. read more

If you are looking for a groomer that is gentle and treats your dog as if it were her own, Destiny is your groomer! I've taken my dog to other groomers and she dog would tremble and cower when we walked through the door. Now she bounds through the door and almost wags her tail off when she knows she is going to see her favorite groomer. That speaks volumes. And she's all about the details -- my pooch always leaves looking absolutely gorgeous. I'm told she still doesn't enjoy having her nails done, but one step at a time. In a panic, I walked into the store. (It's closer than the one I usually go to which is nice.) My dog has had an upset stomach for a few day. This happens often since he is a dachshund and is prone to stomach aches which is why he gets goats milk with every meal but this time has lasted longer than usual. The associate available was ridiculously helpful, reassuring and happy to answer all my questions despite my panicked state. I left feeling much better.
