Krispies is your typical chicken joint! I usually order chicken tenders and fries! I try not to be too adventurous with my food. I have never been disappointed with the quality because I order the basics and I I know exactly what to expect. The chicken is very crispy and juicy. They have the perfect balance and do a good job with keeping it tender. The fries are also well cooked and seasoned. They have a sauce similar to mambo sauce or Polynesian that can be paired with the chicken. This is definitely a hidden gem! Everybody in the neighborhood loves Krispies! The potato wedges are delicious and well seasoned, the chicken is soooo good too! Sometimes you may have to wait a few minutes to order or to get some fresh chicken (they're popular, and sometimes run out of white meat but it takes like ten minutes to make more) but there's a nice ledge by the window to sit on. The Asian man was very rude. I tried to get specific pieces like six drumsticks, and four breast, and three thighs he really said I can't have that have to order us on the menu. Food was a little greasy potato wedges were good but needed more spice or salt. I've cast my jaundiced eye on Krispies for at least 20 years, but never stopped in because of the dicey nature of the neighborhood. But after reading +ive reviews here, I decided to give it a try. Got carryout this morning. There is a small shared parking lot in front. The parking lot is short and narrow, with 1 entrance from Parker Street, and 1 exit to Williamsburg Road, and angled spaces that make it awkward to use the wrong egress/ingress. I stopped in about 10 am, and parking was not a problem at that time. Inside were 3 Asian men; the one I interacted with was pleasant. I ordered food: Fried Chicken Breast, $2.29 x 2 Small (5) Hush Puppies, $1.49 Back at home I delved into the Hush Puppies first, and they were excellent. On to the Fried Chicken Breast. It was good. Apparently had not been under the heat lamps long, because it was quite juicy and not dried at all. Good flavor. Good breading. The meat itself was somewhat tough. I wouldn't return for fried chicken, but I'm sure I'll be tempted to get some more Hush Puppies and try their other sides. read more

Nice little hood chicken spot-nothing gourmet. Can't be the price. I got the $6.99 special combo that came with whiting, wings, shrimp, and wedges -as well as a Mumbo sauce (Not DC style but still good) At first glance it looks like everything is fried in the same batter. The wings were good and well seasoned -great with the sauce. The shrimp was ok too. The potato wedges were very bland but after getting home and throwing some season salt and utilizing the mambo sauce they were actually OK. The whiting was Just OK as well-very fishy and the batter was tasteless and didn't make a difference. After putting it on the bun with a little bit of tartar sauce Much better. I love this spot. I had heard about it a while back, but never got a chance to try it till I moved in the neighborhood about a year ago. Now I haven't made it to chicken box since. The price is right, the chicken is freakin awesome (I don't care what you've read) and the mambo sauce is life. I get tenders or nuggets usually, which are made fresh, so you'll wait a little longer. The only thing I don't really like is the cruddy dinner roll you get. I'd honestly rather have nothing. Biscuits would be next level. I bookmarked this place months ago know that whenever I got a chance, I'd love to try their Wings and Mambo (the spelling they use) sauce. There's a parking lot in the front but it seem to tight for my taste. I was not going expend a lot a time on that tiny space I saw betwixt two cars. I whipped it round the back, parked and silently dared somebody to mess with my whip. As I was approaching Krispies, past the man passed out by the GRTC parada, he being admonished by a man in a truck for being passed out--maybe he knew him. I turned the corner and yep, it was packed. This definitely isn't Short Pump but it was cool. I did that dare because I don't like parking behind places but everything was "copasetic," to quote Bojangles. They even have a stack of Richmond Free Press newspapers for you to read while you wait. Since I got the 4 piece dinner and that was already cooked um fried, I didn't have to wait long. Now I was mainly here for the sauce, the Mambo. It was really good. Some of the best I've had. More spicy than sweet. Two thumbs up. The Wedges were good. Better than my Wings I'd say. I love little family-owned places like this. Got some takeout here and will definitely be back. One of the things I judge places like this on are chicken tenders. I didn't want a huge order so I tried some nuggets instead. This chicken was seasoned. Lots of salt and black pepper, good breading, fried fresh for you. Bone-in chicken was lovely too. Wedges were precooked in a hot plate along with bone-in wings for people wanting a quick fix. These weren't as fresh as they could be, but they were batter dipped and seasoned well. Sides were a little disappointing (Potato and Macaroni salads, hush puppies, cole slaw, wedges), but reasonably priced. Included bread was just generic rolls, but they were fresh at least. I would come back here again and definitely try the tenders. The neighborhood is really sketchy, though, so make sure you lock your car. The front of the business is glass so if you are parked in the like 6 spots out front you should be able to see your car. I remember a woman trying to take the squirt bottle of ketchup out to her car to put it in her container and the owner rebuffing that attempt as she was walking out. OMG!!! This chicken is off the hook!! A barber at refuge for men told me about this place. I was showing houses in the area so I decided to try it out. I can't speak for the regular chicken because they batch cook it, but I have always gotten the tenders and they cook them fresh. 8 piece tender with wedge cut fries for $5.99!!! It is so good. Now every time I show houses out here I stop and get chicken. Even if it's right before dinner. I live in the West End, so it's definitely a treat. Here's the deal. The food is the bomb here. The batter they use on the chicken in incredible. Still trying to figure it out. They got this momba sauce they put on the side that taste like a concoction of ketchup ,bbq sauce and cocktail sauce all mixed together and for some reason it works. They give you a generous amount of potato wedges with just about every combo on the menu and again (slammin good). I hear the pink lemonade that's always on the counter is ridiculous so ill have to try that next time. Over all great little spot if you are tired of the typical chain franchises and just want some good fried seafood or chicken on the go. I recommend getting the combo deal. It includes 3 wings, 2 fried shrimp, 1 whiting and wedges. If you really want take it up a notch you can go across the street and get a 40oz to wash it down. Doesn't get much better than this. Krispies is in the Williamsburg Rd/ Government Rd area of Henrico. A simple take-out chicken restaurant they also do large chicken orders for parties, catering etc. whenever in the area I make all attempts to stop here. My friend enjoys the gizzards (not for me though). I enjoy the wings and the pink lemonade is delicious. Not in the best area of Richmond, lots of people walking around this area. Just be aware of your surroundings, I've never had any issues. Prices are great for budget conscious customers. read more

Myself and another gentlemen showed up around 7:15 and were turned away by an unapologetic staff. I honestly hate when businesses close early or don't bother to update information to reflect accurately.
