I am so not a fan of Krispy Kreme. I find their glazed donuts to be way, way too sweet and I'm more of a cake donut person, which they don't have. OMG YUMMM. If I'm passing by here and the HOT NOW sign is on. It takes everything for me not to stop and get an original glazed. They are the most delicious donuts in the world ( ok I haven't tasted donuts everywhere but that's the way they make you feel). Fri night 11:00 and the drive thru line is wrapped around the building and the wait is a good 15 minutes which is fine until you finally get to place your order and your told they only have three flavors, never mind the fact that the employee thinks it's funny! Would it not make sense to have an employee telling customers or at the very least put a sign up so that we don't sit and waste time and gas for nothing? I've heard of this happening before, certainly they know when the busy times are and can plan accordingly, at least have original glazed. I won't be back! I recently visited Krispy Kerme... typically they have the hot and ready doughnuts but, this visit that wasn't an option! Also, when I asked the associate when the next round would be coming they said, they couldn't tell me a time! May sound like a snob with this next comment, and I will agree, I am a doughnut snob, I really only like the hot glazed doughnuts. This place can't be beat. I like a simple hot glazed donut and this is the place. Way better than the heavy cake style donuts.

As far as I'm concerned this is the Richmond Krispy Creme central location. If the light's are on, they're hot! We ordered a dozen donuts & I still consider the Original the best! A little coffee & even thought we tried a number of other excellent donuts....it's still the Original that serves my palette the best. It's actually rather neat to watch the preparation and flow of the donuts. It's a somewhat large restaurant and lots of people come through .....in other words, even at 9:30-10 PM they're busy. Very polite workers, even a taste or freebie may come your way. OK, who doesn't like donut holes? You'll get a cup for a very inexpensive price. Lived in Va 15 years ago before KK Broad st's new re-facing. I stopped in back in the day since i worked late and it was the only place open. I felt they were 'too sweet' then in comparison..... But i didnt try the hot original glazed... What a foolish mistake Moved the family back here in Nov and our 1st breakfast i figured the kids would enjoy seeing their doughnuts made and enjoying fresh ones... HOLY S*** am I glad we did!!! Our 1st visit was the best thing we could have done being the wife had never been in the south. The doughnuts were KILLER, the staff both young and old were very friendly, even 2 patrons walked past us smiled and said hello to which my wife looked at me holding a box of hot fresh donuts and said "what the h*** is going on here!?" Haha I guess it's tough to be grumpy with a nose and/or mouthful of warm fresh doughnuts! We've had KK doughnuts 4 times in 7 weeks.... I wish there is a negative star. We went to this store to order 5 donuts in drive thru. The server Yahzara kept on asking the count and I told 5 at least 3 times. When I got the receipt I found I was charged for dozen donuts and I told her politely that I ordered for only 5 then she didn't even bother to apologize rather she and 4 other people were chatting as if they were in a party and I had to wait for 20 minutes before she responded. Once I got my order I opened the box and was verifying if this my order was good which took just few seconds but she was so rude asking me why I'm still waiting there. This is so frustrating and annoying to see such a bad customer experience. We always had bad experience in this store but this incident is the height of all. We've decided we are not going go back there. People who serve there doesn't have basic manners and they act as if we are getting everything for free there. Unfortunately, this was my first bad experience at Krispy Kreme and I have been many times before to this location. Sad to say that this location is going down hill, probably due to the staff. First off, the doughnuts were horrible, we ordered a dozen, cost over $12 because we ordered some of the specialty doughnuts. Our visit was on 11/7 at approximately 8:20 pm. We walked in and all the staff was black, usually it is a mix of everything, and yes, this does matter and I will get to why. Most of the employees looked fresh out of high school. My husband is black and I am white (ages 40+). We were greeted by a very young guy and he immediately offered my husband a sample of a doughnut hole, did not offer me one, a mistake you don't make with any couple. I am not saying he was racist to white people (probably was), but you don't do this with ANY couple. What an a**hole. Anyway, this particular KK will not be getting our business again and I do plan on contacting their Corporate office. If you let these things slide, the business suffers. read more

What a waste of 20 minutes. I ordered a Latte and 4 donuts. I go to the bathroom, come back, walk around, check the donut making, wait a while... someone asks me if I've been taken care of and I say I think so, I go and check and the guy has been making the coffee for like 10 minutes in THE SLOWEST WAY POSSIBLE, this is no exaggeration, he barely moved, on top of that he made it cold, I wanted it hot, he never asked. I try to tell him, he doesn't hear me, finally he turns around and I tell him, now 6 more minutes of making the hot coffee. It's finally done, he comes to the register, can't work it, calls someone else, can't work it, calls someone else, can't either, then 4 people standing around the register looking at it like it's the controls of the Chernobyl reactor, 20 minutes and I still don't have my coffee and donuts, finally the guy that asked me before if I was taken care of says he'll ring me up somewhere else. Does he think I'm going to pay after he's seen me stand there bewildered for 20 minutes looking at people who can't do the most basic task? I just say that I'm done and that I'm leaving since this task is too much for them. Do they try to do anything to appease an upset customer? Of course not. 20 minutes wasted and no coffee or donuts. read more

This will is long review, but an epic doughnut deserves an epic review. Both me and my bestie had an enlightening experience at the Krispy Kreme this past weekend. Having gone to college in Richmond, I was familiar with the magic that is a hot fresh Krispy Kreme. The lore of its awesomeness had spread to a childhood friend who was gracious enough to accompany me to the wedding at last minute. I told her we should only stop if the "HOT/FRESH" light was on, but she wanted to stop regardless and since she made the two hour ride to be my date I wouldn't begrudge her. But I tried to explain that although they would be good, they are magical when hot. As we pulled up and waited to turn in, I was still ranting about my fiance having to work at the last minute and bailing as my date when she asked where this sign was? Snapping out of it I told her it was hiding behind a tree and it seemed to be on. As we turned down the side street we found the light was on and I thought....Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba! (Its from the Lion King, and I love that movie). We both squealed with delight and went inside to get our doughnuts on. On the way in we asked some folks enjoying their doughnuts outside if they would snap our pic in front to the sign since it was her first time. The lady we asked said that her guy was better at taking pics which blows my mind since it took like 4 tries and my eyes were tearing up from staring at the sun. But it is while I'm waiting for him to figure out how to use the camera feature of an iPhone, I notice that the sign doesn't say "HOT/FRESH" it says "HOT/NOW". Not that it makes a difference but I think that it would be better as "HOT/FRESH", not just b/c that is how I've always referenced the sign whenever I come across other Krispy Kreme's, but research shows that people buy stuff when there are more adjectives b/c really who wants a brownie when you can get a double chocolate chunk brownie. Back to my epic tale, the guy finally gets the shot, and I really do appreciate that he was willing to walk away from his hot doughnuts to take our pic, really and truly - thanks guy) We head inside and I ordered two doughnuts one for me, one for her (we were on our way to a reception). Even the cashier thought we were nuts, she was like really you only want one a piece? No, I wanted a dozen for myself but me being up 15lbs and my friend looking as awesome as she did in high school made me exert some self control. As we walk back to the car I get a little nervous, what if it isn't like I remembered? What if they are just ok, pretty good, nothing special doughnuts. My friend is super picky, and I don't want to feel Pause for more pics in the car, then she goes for it, and she loves it! Yay! I taste mine and its just like I remembered. It was a magical moment - so magical that I needed to leave the parking lot ASAP before I went through the drive through for one more! read more

I would give this place 100 stars if I could. I was never a fan of donuts and didn't even like famous NY cronuts but Krispy Kreme is sooooo goooood. We ordered a 3-pack original. The super friendly staff gave us a freshly made batch and even offered to give us the donuts for free because we waited a bit for our lemonade. The donuts are moist, fluffy, and so delicious. we moved from Rich in 04 and until we moved back from the frozen north in Maine were unable to get this wonderful donut except in a box. but that was better than nothing. if you take the boxed ones and put them in the micro for about 30 seconds it's almost as good as having a hot and now, just wish there was a KKD either in Elkins or Petersburg, WV or Harrisonburg, VA. sure would make my donut eating a whole bunch better.
