The quote also happened to be the cheapest of the 3 companies I got bids from. - The installation went very smoothly. I understand that direct vent water heaters are a little tricky to install, but Brandon installed perfectly. He arrived on time, got rid of our old water heater, and added a new water heater with several fixes: the overflow pipe now runs to the sink, he used a "flex vent" kit so the water heater can sit on the ground, and he put the water heater in a tray to reduce issues from slow leaks since I don't have a basement drain. - After the install, Brandon taught me how to change the temp / turn the water heater off / how to flush it / how to change the anode rod. Very pleased with the work and my new water heater is working flawlessly. The only downside was that there was no permit. I'm no expert on permits. Portland's website says that water heater changes require a permit. Brandon said it's a "gray area" for residential. I am not planning on selling the house and things looked good to me, so I don't mind too much.

Fast forward to over a month later they came out and did the work and the guys were great as my previous review stated. My husband signed for the work when I wasn't home and assumed it was signing off on the work and not some financial agreement. So I am waiting on the bill and I get a call from their finance company. To which I very clearly tell them NO I do NOT want your financing I will pay them in full. I call Sky and speak to the office and they tell me to just tell the finance company to send it back to them because they cannot cancel it on their end. The finance company tells me that in order to cancel it Sky needs to cancel it because the company already sent them a partial payment and they would need to return that. The salesmen at Sky calls me and swears there is no prepayment penalty and I can just pay the finance company in full with no additional charges. I tell him that I do NOT want to pay a 2nd party because they do not just finance for free. He swears that its too late now and this is the only way, but it will cost exactly the same if I just pay them off. Flash forward to my first bill with this company where I pay it off, but due to the finance charges it costs me and extra $400 for the privilage of being sent over to to them, despite me telling Sky from the very first meeting that I will pay for the system in full. I called to speak to the office person but they won't call me back and I highly doubt they will give me back the $400 extra that I had to pay. I don't know about anyone else but I don't enjoy having to fork out $400 for being lied to and given the run around when it was their mistake after I clearly told them I do not want financing.

There was nothing wrong with either heater, but it had been a while since the gas heater in particular had been checked; we scheduled a service call, fully expecting to be told that the heater might need replacing due to its age. Jesse did an excellent, thorough job. He had to replace the anode rod which was full of minerals, but that was it. He did not tell us it was time to replace the heater, and in fact told us the heater was probably good for another 7 years and we could wait 5 years to get it checked again. He went above and beyond in making sure everything was working as it should (we have a hydronic furnace). We will continue to call this company for our water heater needs.
