Without question the best BBQ in Boulder County. Their pork is great; however, their specialty, in my opinion, is there delicious beef brisket sandwiches. The ribs have great bark and are consistently, fall-off-the-bone good. The beans and mashers are fantastic. Coleslaw is also very tasty, freshly made. All of the KT's locations are great - that being said, the staff at central boulder location is beyond friendly. If you go in enough, you'll become a regular and they'll know what you want before you even have to order it. I've been enjoying KT's BBQ since they opened their original spot at 63rd and Arapahoe in the early 90s, and this location, near where I work and live, is a take-out staple for me. The June Bowl is my favorite menu item, and I love the idea of layering the meat with sides and sauces. Recently I've discovered their breakfast burritos, which are also good. I've been here twice. First time was about a year ago, second time recently. The first time I got the pulled pork sandwich. It was alright, a little dry, but pricey and I left a little disappointed for paying so much for so little food. The second time I got a lunch special which was a Styrofoam cup full of turkey, cranberries, and mashed potatoes, and a shot glass sized plastic container of dried macaroni and cheese. The turkey was very dry and tasteless. The mashed potatoes were alright. Cranberries were negligible due to the small amount. My "meals" came out to around $16 and were the smallest portions I have ever had at a BBQ restaraunt. When I was handed the Styrofoam cup full of slop, I was expecting more and when I realized that was all I was getting, I just gave an embarrassed, "oh, thanks, ha!". The staff seemed very disinterested. No acknowledgement or thanks for a $5 tip. I don't think there were any smiles. I don't generally judge people too much on that type of thing, but at least make someone feel welcomed and not like your're burdening them. Also, the chairs felt like they would fall apart if you moved too fast. They are put together loose or becoming loose and are made out of hollow wood. I would honestly say this is the most disappointing BBQ restaurant I have ever been to. I didn't like the food, the prices are really high, tiny portions served in Styrofoam cups and the staff seems disinterested in being there. Usually, this is a sign of how things are handled from the top down. Because who would want people being able to say those types of things about the restaurant they run. read more

It's ok, not horrible or great. The bread is not very fresh (kinda stale in my opinion). The barbecue was a little bit dry. The staff were friendly and the service was quick. There are not many barbecue options in Boulder so if you are craviing barbecue it's a go, but if you're craving good barbecue then no, you might be disappointed. read more

Worst BBQ I have had in all of Colorado. The meat was tasteless and full of huge hunks of fat. The sauce just tastes of black pepper and vinegar. The beans and the chili are so overloaded with pepper that they are not even edible. When I dont eat something you know its bad. read more

New location but felt the food quality dropped. I ordered a pound of ribs and brought them home, they were so overcooked and dry. There was zero flavor. I thought the chicken was ok- but also pretty dry. The BBQ sauce is very good and helped make up for the dry chicken but there was nothing that could help the ribs. The beans are good but the coleslaw also sort of mediocre. I would definitely skip coming back here for my next night of takeout- two of us and it was $45 and because the ribs were so bad I am glad I ordered a pound of chicken. read more

Not good. Just plain not good. I got 1/3 lb of brisket ribs and pork shoulder. I gave my wife a piece of the brisket and shoulder and she couldn't tell the difference between the two. That's really bad!!! The ribs are terrible. The skin has some flavor and the meat is flavorless. The only reason it am giving 2 stars is because the sauce and sides are good. read more

Best little hidden gem in Boulder! It is the antithesis of Boulder in its healthiness. I'm always looking for a great places stuff myself and this never disappoints! For BBQ, KT's is disappointingly mediocre. The pulled pork sandwich I ordered was edible but otherwise uninteresting, and the sides of mashed potatoes and cole slaw - both of which were tastier than the meat - were small and insignificant. (To see how BBQ portioning is done right, check out Red Eyed Pig in Boston.) It also didn't help matters that the guy who took down my order seemed easily exasperated and impatient. I'm usually not one to get miffed about questionable service - I was once a waiter myself. But I had a lot of "did they really just say that?" moments in Boulder. read more

I've had KT's cater several parties in the past. It's delicious BBQ and I like their sauces. What particularly impressed me this time was that after organizing an evening gathering for a community displaced by a massive flood that mauled their nearby mountain town of Salina, KT's donated a substantial portion of the meal. Several Salina community members almost lost their lives in the flood, so this was an emotional evening and comfort food was just what they needed--and just what they got! The dinky portion might be forgivable with decent brisket, but now I know why the sauce was most of the weight in the bag. You need the sauce to re-hydrate the brisket. The sauce saves the review actually. Without the sauce, this would be a 1-star review. I'm going to assume I showed up on a bad day and had accidentally lousy brisket. They give you a pile of it with a to-go sandwich, so I brought the rest home. I've used it on a couple of things now & kinda want to see if I can find a jar of it. I didn't try any side offerings. Nice breakfast stop. I had the egg sandwich and my wife had the grits. We also picked up some extra biscuits. The atmosphere is super casual and the food came out quickly. My sandwich was pretty good and had a little spice to it. The biscuits were scratch made and excellent. The grits stood out. KT's is my favorite BBQ joint in Colorado by far. The food is excellent and the service is fast. The East Boulder location on Arapahoe is my favorite because there is a lot of room, outdoor picnic tables, and the people have always been SUPER friendly at that store. It gets busy at lunch time! I've taken two of the KT BBQ classes in Broomfield, and Kirk (one of the owners) taught the class. I HIGHLY recommend the classes, they go through all of the basics and then some. You get to eat a fantastic meal at the end... chicken, salmon, pizza, ribs, or whatever they taught in class. LOVE IT! read more

We just used KT's to cater our outdoor, rustic wedding. They were SO wonderful. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the food was fantastic. So much so that people were raving about it for days (and when does that ever happen at a wedding??). They even wrapped up our leftovers and put them on ice for us to take home. First time there, orderered June bowl because I didnt want a sandwich but when I realized he was going to serve it in a big styrofoam cup I nixed that order (before the cup was wasted). I then had to order the most expensive thing - the plate (forget the name). The guy kept struggling with making tin foil compartmentts on top of a plate for the different meat - why not just have a paper plate with compartments? It comes with 2 sides that are each served in a little plastic container that dont fit on the plate. They really need to have a tray for all the items because it then becomes an awkward balancing act for the customer. I got cornbread hyped as "special". It was cold and wrapped in saran wrap. I had to ask for a cube of butter sitting behind the counter and was also given one of those plastic single serve packs of honey. Guys! ? Yes I should have refused it. At least I wasnt handed a plastic straw and at least the drink cup was paper. This is Boulder, noone wants to be guilty of using styrofoam and non recyclable plastics. As far as the food goes, The meat was ok. The best was the pork rib but only was given one. The medium sauce had a good flavor but the sauces are pretty watery. Even if I were starving, I probably would not go back just because I cant get the sight of the massive styrofoam containers out of my head. read more

Dropped by this place on the way home from Estes Park. After passing Big Daddy's from no lights on, my family and I decided on this place. I've had ribs at many places, but theirs are BETTER than Chili's, hands down. They may have a limited selection of sides, and their mild sauce may be medium to hot, and the Elvis decor might be a bit much, but it's a pretty decent place. And the Tea is ALWAYS Sweet! First place I've been to out here since moving out of TN that has No Unsweet Tea visible. They gets props for that one! Like I said, better than Chili's ribs, may rival Texas Roadhouse! I want to commend KT on their 'killer beans', 'sauces', hot links, beef. I am a native Texan, and I must admit the beans were unlike any I have ever eaten.
