i love coming to kushimbo , my family has been coming here for generations. the food is amazing Gaby is amazing , good customer service, she's been work for kushimbo for over 20 plus year. Unfortunately, recently had an unpleasant service from a new worker named margarita, she was disrespectful and very aggressive. I called ahead of time before my arrival, she answered the phone very rude , told me how long was I going to take to get here because she didn't want me complaining that my food was cold upon my arrival and hung up on me! once I arrived she grabbed the phone and left the phone off the base so it wouldn't ring. clearly didn't want to take anymore phone orders. She walked away started talking bad about customers with her coworker, little did she know I spoke Spanish. I understood what she was saying. I strongly feel margarita should not be there. Despite this, Kushimbo remains one of our favorite Japanese restaurants, and we look forward to many more family meals here. read more

Solid hole in the wall Japanese restaurant in Ktown that specializes in charcoal grilled foods. Good prices and generous portions. I got the Yakiniku & Chicken Large Entree and it was pretty good. It was large enough to be two meals, so I was able to-go the other half for another meal. The meat was thin, but it wasn't dry and it was flavorful from the charcoal grill and sauce. The meal also came with rice and salad which were also generous portions. The salad was crisp and the dressing was flavorful and tasty. For around $20, this was a solid deal considering the portion size. There is indoor seating and tables, a water station, and to-go materials available. Overall, a solid casual eats spot. read more

Excellent and simple teriyaki! Been a loyal patron for over 40 years since they opened their original location on Wilshire/Wilton. Been coming to this location since pre-COVID. And I want to start off by saying Kuishimbo still hits! My girlfriend and I decided to go there for lunch yesterday, We both got the Yakisoba with beef & two sodas. Price wasn't too bad, 30 dollars. Which I will say doesn't feel too crazy with how everything is so expensive now in days. If this is your first time coming to this restaurant and you don't know what to tryout I would highly recommend getting Yakiniku & chicken (or the Yakiniku which is just beef with teriyaki) or go with the Yakisoba with beef these two are some of my favorite dishes on the menu and you won't be disappointed! A decade later, the flavor of the food is still the same except for the following: 1) The chicken must have had a hammer taken to it. It used to be flat as a pancake, but now it's paper thin, which makes it dry and tough. 2) The protein portions are much smaller, and the prices are higher. This is literally our go to spot when we don't know what to eat but we want something that will always always hit the spot! We bring friends here and will continue to support this establishment. I do agree with the price increase but in all reality.... What hasn't gone up? The portions have gotten a little smaller THAT I can agree with other reviewers it's not ok but, being the loyal customers that we are. We will always return. The staff is always so friendly and I love they make the food on the spot! None of that reheating stuff they cook to order. We're familiar how Kuishimbo prepared its Japanese style food in the '80's in a smaller restaurant like the izakayas in the tiny village alleys with a Jap ambience. To recall that experience, 8 of us friends dined in not expecting a bigger space with the looks of a regular Asian restaurant. This time, the food we're served have lost the Kuishimbo taste & quality of the food ordered from their menu! The salad dressing lacked the hint of wine vinegar as before & no more toasted black sesame seeds sprinkled on the shredded veggies. The meat & chicken tasted like they're smothered with oyster sauce and/or teriyaki sauce we have in our fridge at home! The karaage tasted like the pieces of chicken were fried in overused cooking oil. The rice was not as nutty which glistened like Nishiki on the bowls! What happened? I used to love this place but I don't know what happened. The quality and presentation is not the same. I just ordered on Uber eats, food arrived in less than 30 minutes but my order was wrong and the food was cold. I ordered the Teppan squid and received the shrimp instead. I tried eating it and making the best of it but it was cold and the veggies were soggy. Such a disappointment. My partners food was also cold and the portion was significantly smaller. I love Kuishimbo. I've been eating this since I was in elementary school (the 80's). Granted it was at the other location (that is now sadly closed), but the food tastes the same. I grew up eating the Ika (squid) with my dad. It was a very regular thing we did. I don't think I have much of a taste for it anymore but that's fine because the Yakiniku (beef) is my absolute favorite. This is an easy choice to eat here since grilled meat and white rice is always a top food in my book. I've never been disappointed with the yakiniku. It's consistently the same portion and flavor. They give you extra sauce but I never use it; I think the flavor is perfect as-is. I don't think I even know what the extra sauce is since I can't ever remember even opening it. I assume it's teriyaki sauce. Their gyoza is okay. Their yakitori is good, but a little pricey. You get 2 skewers. Their teriyaki chicken is what you'd expect. Their yakisoba is good. This is the only place I can eat decent yakisoba outside of Little Tokyo or Obon (japanese festival that usually has excellent food). Service is pretty fast. Their cabbage salad is good... actually the dressing is good. If you eat there you will get a decent dressing amount. If you takeout you will barely have enough to dress the volume of cabbage if you actually transfer it to a large bowl and toss it. Not the end of the world but I think they could increase the portion of dressing they give you when you takeout. I think their rice is very good too. I'm a purist and my dad taught me that white rice is best. NO SAUCE ON IT. If you eat there you'll get a small bowl of rice. If you takeout you'll get about twice the amount of rice = GOOD. I suppose this may not be for everyone since the food is a little "simpler", as most Japanese dishes are. To me, this feels and tastes like home. One of my oldest comfort foods that is still available and still tastes exactly how I remember from my childhood. read more

This was my first time here, my boyfriend and his family are long time customers and love it. There's metered parking in front of the store, and it's like a hidden hole in the wall restaurant. At first walking in all you can smell is the grill and char. Reminds me of a nice bbq. There is limited outdoor seating - about 4 tables in total. I ordered the Yakiniku Beef with white rice. The meet was tender and the flavor was good. You can taste the char from the grill. I really enjoyed their side salad and the sauce that comes with it. The portions are a really good size too.
