POV: you found a Tokyo-style izakaya in the middle of Koreatown…read more Hidden inside Madang Mall, Kopan Izakaya is giving low-lit, cozy, authentic Japanese vibes... the kind of spot you accidentally stay at for hours What we ordered: Ginza Sushi (12pc chef's choice) -- fresh, buttery, melts instantly Yuzu Miso Black Snapper Crudo -- citrusy, light, perfectly balanced Negitoro Donburi + fresh uni -- rich, creamy, elite combo Crispy Rice w/ Spicy Tuna -- crunchy + spicy = no notes Geisha Roll -- seared salmon + shrimp tempura, packed with flavor This is your sign to level up on your Ktown sushi

Salty but lacks a depth of flavor. - The truffle sushi roll had a prominent truffle flavor (which I enjoyed, but may not be for everyone). Crunch spider roll was a favorite; just a solid classic with soft shell crab (love that an extra piece of crab is included on top of the roll). The fried onions on top of the Tokyo roll were crispy and sweet. Uni was fresh and delicious! I had uni only one time before and had a bad experience (it was incredibly fishy, and now I realize, not fresh). So I was apprehensive at first but I'm glad I gave it a chance because this uni was buttery, smooth, and briny in all the right ways. - Matcha tea was okay, medium profile matcha flavor. Not bad for the value though. Clean and refreshing. -Might be a small thing to point out, but I like how they include lemon slices automatically in the water. I also like the texture of the ice (evenly crushed and almost like a slush). Service 3.5/5 Not too long a wait for the food. Polite and professional waiters. Aesthetic 4.5/5 Traditional izakaya vibe with a relaxed, warm atmosphere. Low lighting inside. Modern layout with traditional Japanese decor.

It was busy inside but still got seated without waiting. Insane quality of fish not one single item I ordered had an off taste. The fast that my spicy mayo and ponzu was full when I left goes to show how insanely well they prepared the food sauce wise. Overall great place I will be back to try more things for sure. All this food double the salmon roe and scallop sushi because it was that good I had to go for round 2 but all this for 80$ was insaneeeee!!!!! And of course leave tip lol. For sure coming back!

Reasonable sushi eats in k-town…read more Went for a weekend sushi dinner. Theres some parking in the plaza, as well as street parking if you're lucky. We had an rsvp but wasn't busy when we arrived. Was sat immediately and served water. They have a pretty extensive menu of most things you'd find at a sushi cut roll spot. We ended up ordering the toro garlic toast, veggie tempura, ginza roll, and several pieces of nigiri sushi. The toro garlic toast was pretty good - sort of like a spicy tuna crispy rice situation ... but a little fattier and more garlicky than crispy. The ginza roll was pretty good too - a lot of fish in the roll and wasn't overwhelming with too much sauce. The tempura was good too- not super oily and all your typical veg involved. The nigiri sushi were pretty well prepared. The size was pretty good for the price - and each were accompanied by a small garnish on top or a little bit of sauce brushed on. All in all - I wouldn't say it's a date night place, but is a good easy eats sushi spot for rolls and nigiri for the price. Would recommend!

We stopped by Mafia Sushi LA after my daughter finished a gymnastics competition -- she had just…read morewon, so we figured sushi was the perfect way to celebrate. First impressions: the place is pretty simple. Don't expect a super decorated sushi bar or that "wow, this feels like a hidden Tokyo gem" vibe. It's more casual and a bit plain inside. Service also felt a little... rookie. Our waiter was nice but seemed new to the job -- a bit unsure and not very engaging. Now let's talk about the food. We ordered a mix of sashimi, nigiri, and rolls -- salmon sashimi, bluefin sashimi, rainbow roll, Red Dragon roll, sweet shrimp, eel nigiri, and a baked salmon roll. Presentation was actually quite nice (orchids and plating looked great for photos, but the sashimi slices were thinner than expected. The fish tasted fresh enough, but overall the food landed in the "good but not memorable" category. Solid sushi, just nothing that really made us go "wow." If I were judging purely on food and atmosphere, this would probably land around 2.5 stars for me. BUT... here's where the night got sweeter. When the staff heard our daughter had just won her gymnastics competition, they surprised her with a free ice cream to celebrate. That was a really thoughtful gesture and totally made her night. On top of that, they also brought complimentary miso soup for our whole table (4 of us), which was a nice unexpected bonus. Little things like that go a long way, especially when you're dining with kids. It turned what would have been a pretty average dinner into a warm family moment. So while the sushi itself was just okay, the kindness from the staff bumped this review up to 3.5 stars for me. Would I go out of my way to come here? Probably not. But if I'm nearby and craving sushi again, I'd consider stopping in -- especially since they were so sweet to our little champion.

Sushi wasn't anything special but fine! Miso average, vegetable tempura average. Highlight was my spicy scallop handroll! Very good. There were only two girls working the entire restaurant so be aware you might need to be a bit patient as they are the only people there to seat guests, food run, wait tables, bus tables, and reset tables -- they were as attentive and as sweet as they could be. Beats going to WeHo with a QR code auto menu and 10 food runners that glare at you when you ask for an extra napkin! We will be coming back as it's walking distance from us and very chill ambience!
