Please save your $ and go somewhere else, like a kbbq nearby. First off, we decided this place last minute and saw that they had 4.6 stars, so why not. We love otoro. It was 7:30pm on a Sunday & it was empty with 2 parties. We were greeted & server was very nice on how to order. Second, nigiris are ONLY 1pc & way overpriced for $5-6 each. They usually come in pairs & quality was not good at all. Salmon 3pc didn't taste fresh, crispy rice had no flavor, dragon roll had too much rice & avocado on it which made the texture mushy with no taste. The toro set was a 7/10, the only good thing on there was the less fatty tuna. Still not worth the money tho, you're better off going to AYCE sushi. LASTLY! We could not enjoy our food without a bunch of fruit flies or gnats flying around us! There would be 4-5 flies flying in/out every 5 min while we'd eat & we lost our appetite. Couldn't enjoy something that we paid a lot for. And why did we start hearing an electric bug zapper while eating? They must know about it. Overall, service was great but everything else was not worth it, especially the damn flies. Ew.

Sushi Zanmai serves fresh fish and unique items. Their cold shabu was unique with red snapper. It had a great presentation too. I loved the tuna trio and the toro was super fatty. The baked blue crab hand roll was creamy and tasty. The ice cream was good too. The sakes are high quality and smooth. Service was friendly and efficient. The ambience is upscale and comfortable. How cool the Tuna King is here in Koreatown!

I had an amazing experience at Sushi Zanmai in Los Angeles for a special omakase night hosted by Kiyoshi Kimura also known as the "Tuna King". This was actually my second time meeting him, which made the evening even more memorable. The menu was thoughtfully paced and beautifully executed. We started with a refreshing welcome drink featuring orange and plum wine from Wakayama, followed by a light and flavorful cold shabu shabu with red snapper and rock shrimp in a creamy spicy sauce. The tuna trio and sashimi were incredibly fresh and paired perfectly with their signature sweet soy. One of the standout courses included seared sweet shrimp and salmon with saikyo miso, along with a variety of eel dishes that were rich and satisfying. The baked crab hand roll was definitely a highlight - warm, creamy, and absolutely delicious. We ended the night with vanilla ice cream topped with caramel sea salt, which was the perfect sweet finish. Overall, it was an elevated and memorable omakase experience with high-quality ingredients and great attention to detail. Highly recommend for sushi lovers!

I had such a nice experience at Sushi Zanmai in Ktown for their omakase night everything felt super thoughtful and well-paced. Each course was simple but really good: * welcome drink: light + refreshing * 1st course: clean flavors, the shrimp was creamy + a little spicy * 2nd course: fresh sashimi, super smooth * 3rd course: THIS was my favorite the tuna was sooo good and the seared salmonnnn... literally melted in my mouth * 4th course: baked crab hand roll was warm + comforting * dessert: sweet and simple, perfect ending The staff made the whole night even better everyone was so sweet, attentive, and welcoming without being overwhelming Overall just a really nice, cozy omakase experience. I'd definitely come back for that tuna and seared salmon alone lol.

I wasn't super hungry today, so I just ordered a chirashi don and a cucumber salad. The don was really good, the fish was very fresh with no fishy smell at all. The tuna especially stood out, it was so delicious! I'll definitely come back next time to try the tuna don. Service was amazing. They kept refilling our water and checked in often to make sure everything tasted good. I was also offered a complimentary special infused sake to try, which was a really nice touch. The restaurant itself feels open and airy, so it's very comfortable and not crowded. Overall, a really pleasant experience!

It's been 6 months and we had to come back. We already ate lunch but knew we needed a snack here or else we would regret it. We walked in and asked to do takeout. Service was so friendly and funny. We got: Two seared salmon belly nigiri: 11/10 - the best ever Marinated Mackerel Nigiri: my husband ate it but he devoured it so it must've been good Seared Toro Nigiri: 10/10 melts in your mouth!

Have tried Sushi Zanmai in Japan multipe times. Came here Sunday lunch. Wasn't busy so parked in the lot. Food came out very quickly. Bascially ordered sushi and then chawanmushi which was pretty good. All of the sushi were good as well but still better in Japan. Rice needed more vinegar I think. I was told you can adjust how much rice and wasabi if you tell them ahead of time. Would get the nigiri set next time and add on the Santa Barbara uni. Liked how the sweet shrimp comes with fried head at then. House salad that came with the tuna set was good too. Might order that separately next time if I didn't get the set. Sushi is high quality, fresh and buttery! We each ordered a sushi set (with an array of nigiri; the eel one was interesting and tasty!), an agedashi tofu app, and side of hand rolls. Loved the variety of each nigiri and there's tons of options for sashimi or nigiri by piece, as you order on an iPad (easier than ordering on paper bc you can view your options)! Service was one of the best among the sushi restaurants in LA! Each of the waiters were SO sweet and accommodating. Love the extra care and detail that went into our food and service. A lovely sushi spot in Koreatown !

My partner took me here on a Friday night and told me all about the Tuna King, I didn't know anything about his incredible story. Easy ordering on a tablet; the transaction was still done manually by an employee at the end of meal. Some of the best tuna I've ever had, unsurprisingly! We also got the assorted tempura and a variety of nigiri. The parking lot is very limited and chaotic, we parked in a structure on Kenmore Av for $20

A bit disappointed by Sushi Zanmai, but happy I visited. We decided to stop in here after hearing news that this Japan-based restaurant chain broke the world record by paying ~510M JPY (~$3.24 million USD) for a single bluefin tuna at this year's annual New Year auction at Tokyo's Toyosu Market (which is the largest wholesale fish market in the world). With their recently opened Los Angeles location serving up limited pieces of it, I was pretty excited to have an opportunity to get a taste of sushi history. For those that don't know, Sushi Zanmai operates about 50 restaurants throughout Japan. Los Angeles is its first overseas location. Often referred to as the "Tuna King" of Japan, CEO Kiyoshi Kimura is often the highest bidder at the Japanese new year tuna auction. This comes with a lot of publicity that helps the business. To eat, we each ordered a couple pieces of the coveted "Hatsuseri" tuna. In addition, I ordered some Otoro, Chutoro, and Red Snapper. Overall, I thought the sushi was pretty good. This definitely isn't a high-end sushi bar with the highest quality, but the prices are reflective of that and very reasonable. While I enjoyed the special "Hatsuseri" tuna, the red snapper and chutoro admittedly weren't the best. The chutoro was particularly chewy and I had to spit some of it out. Food aside, service was pretty nice and the ambiance was lively. They don't serve alcohol yet, but they have plenty of food options sure to satisfy. If you are in the area, I'd recommend checking this place out.

The best tuna sushi I've had in a while! Located in the corner unit of the Chapman Plaza (across the parking lot from Quarters). This new sushi restaurant has super fresh tuna from Japan. They don't have their liquor license yet, so only soft drinks and nonalcoholic beer. It was not very busy. We were able to book a last minute reservation on a Saturday night. The interior is clean and minimalist. You place your order thur the iPad on the table, and fresh delicious sushi gets served to your table. Would definitely recommend coming here if you love fresh sushi!

One of the best sushi places in La hands down. Big restaurant and friendly staff, we've had great service from everyone that greeted us. A little pricier but definitely worth the quality. Good for dates or casual dining. Order on the tablet or ask the waiter for help. The only miss is that parking absolutely sucks. The small lot is $20 on the weekends IF they're even available. Half the time, lot is closed. Street parking is abysmal as it's in a very very busy area. It's a little hard to find the entrance in the courtyard, it's tucked on the side door, very easy to miss. They need better signage for sure.

Always wanted to try Sushi Zanmai after found out they opened a restaurant here in LA. Food was amazing while service was top notch. We got seated in approximately 15mins, while we were waiting, the server constantly came to us and let us know how much longer we be seated. I think that show top service. The tuna was excellent. Parking was one of the easiest in Koreatown as well.

$45 lunch special! Comes with soup and salad!

One of the best sushi spots I've had a in a while actually. We didn't really do any appetizers and went straight in for the fish. Started off with a couple of hand rolls, we did the crab hand roll and O toro hand roll. Crab hand roll wasn't as impressive, I've had better to be honest. I didn't let that experience ruin it for me because the toro hand roll was delicious. I think they add a piece of mint and it complimented the hand roll. Very crunchy nori wrapper and good rice to fish ratio. For our sushi we started with chu toro tuna, salmon belly, and halibut. Super fresh melt in your mouth quality. Halibut was interesting with the truffle, first time definitely won't be the last. We ended it with red snapper and black snapper. Nice of the chef to switch out roe for halibut for me on my omakase. However, probably the worst omakase I've ever had. No creativity, nothing felt premium, chewy fish, flavors didn't mesh, and half of it was salty. The miso soup wasn't scorching, which i appreciated at first but that meant the last few sips were fairly room temp. The real crab handroll was good. If the price point was $35 sushi set I'd give 5/5 but this is supposed to be premium omakase. I've been to other Sushi Enya locations and had good experiences, so this was very disappointing. Stick to the rolls and nigiri.

Long story short, our dining experience felt rushed. We waited about 45 min- an hour for a table. Once we were seated, we were pushed to order right away. Well he didn't get much of a chance to look at what he wanted to eat because the server was standing there waiting. Literally staring. What would you like to order? I explained to her that it was his first time here and he needed time to look over the menu and asked her if she can come back later. She proceeded to say it will take longer to get our orders in and delay the kitchen staff. That didn't end there. Right after our food was served, one of the servers came by to ask if everything was ok and if we needed anything. We said no. Shortly after, the server dropped the bill at our desk. Mind you, we were not even close to finishing our meal. I understand there are other customers waiting for a table but you shouldn't be rushing the customers currently eating. They clearly prioritize turning tables faster to make profit. It was not a pleasant or enjoyable dining experience. I would choose another sushi spot.

I find that a lot of the criticism levied against Tokyo Haus expects a restaurant that caters to all types of customers. I find that restaurants are like works of art in that art that tries to appeal to everyone won't appeal to anyone. I think Tokyo Haus's excellence will always be found in the AYCE option. That's what makes it a great restaurant. Becoming a regular here has been a delight, especially after finding our favorite items and sections of the menu. The service was unremarkable at first, but with some geniality and consideration, the servers will open up to you and take care of you. Over the past year or so, we've come to appreciate Alex, who always makes sure our meals are delicious. The restaurant itself is temperate and not too loud with plenty of space between tables/booths. The music playing is not too loud and allows for conversation to flow. They upgraded their ordering system to a tablet-based system a while ago, which has greatly streamlined the ordering process. If you're looking for recommendations on what to order, I highly recommend trying one of the AYCE options and ordering the lemon pepper salmon nigiri (I order at least 50 pieces of it every time!). The eel, salmon, and tuna nigiri are also great choices. The cucumber salad is a new favorite side we found, alongside the brussel sprouts, edamame, and green beans.

I think the nigiri has great rice/fish proportions, and the takoyaki and green beans are my personal favorite appetizers. We love the lemon pepper salmon, very smokey and peppery, but also bright and zesty! Shoutout our host Alex, who made our night fantastic! A week ago we came in a large group celebrating a birthday, and Alex quickly got us seated and set up. It was the first time using the new tablet system for a few of us, but they were very accommodating to make sure things went smoothly. At the end they brought out dessert and helped us wish our friend a happy birthday. Alex was very friendly and brought amazing vibes to our dining experience, definitely made our celebration one to remember! If you're reading this tysm :)

I really enjoyed this sushi spot. Unlike many sushi restaurants that offer combo plates, omakase,…read moreor sushi specials, this place is entirely à la carte, so you build your meal piece by piece. While that can add up quickly, the quality made it worth it for me. Every sushi item we ordered was incredibly fresh and tasted great. The fish was clean, flavorful, and clearly high quality. Nothing felt like an afterthought, and I was happy with everything we tried. Another plus is that they validate 2 hour parking in the same plaza, which made the visit much more convenient. My only minor complaint is that the pace of service was extremely fast. The sushi came out so quickly that I felt a little rushed through the meal. It's certainly better than waiting forever for food, but I would have appreciated a bit more time to relax and enjoy each round before the next dishes arrived. Overall, the food was excellent and I'd gladly return. If you're looking for fresh, high-quality sushi and don't mind ordering everything à la carte, this place is definitely worth a visit.
