I had lunch with my assistant today. We originally planned to go to Zombie Chicken, but it was closed, so we ended up going to a Thai restaurant across the street instead because my assistant was craving Thai food. We ordered Pad See Ew and shrimp fried rice, but unfortunately, both dishes were really disappointing. The Pad See Ew was overly salty and lacked flavor, and the shrimp fried rice was incredibly bland. We kept wondering, "What is this supposed to taste like?" My assistant and I both agreed that this was probably the worst Thai food we have ever had in our lives. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service was friendly, but we were seated at a table that was extremely close to the one next to us, making it feel very cramped.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We asked if we could move to another table, but were told that the area was not being used and that we couldn't sit there. Later, however, we saw other customers being seated in that same section, which was a little frustrating. When it was time to pay, she brought a card reader directly to the table. I inserted my credit card into the machine, and it processed both the payment and the tip right there. I will start by saying we came here two days in a row. I was craving curry and this place was super close by and open late enough. We loved everything so much we went back the next night with more people! We've now tried a bunch of stuff off the menu but it's such a big menu that you can barely scratch the surface! My favorite was the Panang curry. The meat was so tender it just falls apart and the sauce was delicious. The mee krob was also delicious, tom yum, yellow curry, and mango sticky rice were all delicious and worth going back for. I've been coming to this spot on 3rd Street since I was a kid, back when my family would pile in for those epic dinners filled with laughter, large plates of BBQ ribs and chicken, and Thai iced teas. The food is still tasty as I remember. The outside of the chicken was a bit burnt but I didn't mind it and the Pad Thai, spring rolls and chicken noodles never disappoint. Portions are generous, flavors are bold and authentic, just like the old times. The service is always fantastic, friendly, attentive staff. They hustle without making you feel rushed, and they're quick with recommendations or refills. That said, the place could really use some updating. It's been around since 1978 (the original location!), and while that vintage charm is part of what I love, the interior feels a bit worn and dated now. A fresh coat of paint, some modern touches, or even just updated seating would go a long way without losing the cozy, old-school vibe that keeps longtime fans like me coming back. It's pretty decent. We got crispy duck, honey duck, garlic ribs, and sate rice plate. My favorite was the garlic ribs which were very well cooked, flavorful, and not overly oily. The crispy duck tasted great but unfortunately there wasn't much meat. The honey duck has more meat but a bit salty with the sauce. Overall the food was fine and it was nice to try a variety of Thai meat plates that's a bit different from your usual Thai place. Maybe if we ordered different dishes we would've enjoyed everything more, I can see the potential of this place with some of the dishes we ordered. My absolute favorite food and restaurant, been coming here for the past 20+ years, a former boyfriend introduced me to this restaurant. Since then, I have brought my husband and parents, who also love this restaurant. To me, this is the original, I know other locations have opened up, but I always come back here for nostalgic reasons. The food has been consistent and always delicious. Went in 40 min before closing so ordered quickly. Got three things, small Thai tea, the s1 dish, and shrimp fried rice. The food was not great and when it came time to pay, they brought a card reader, charged my card without showing the total and then I was prompted to tip. I got a receipt that was not itemized and noticed with tip my food came out to about $45. They are either overcharging tax or charging tip and not disclosing this and then requesting an additional tip. Feels very scammy. read more

It was my first time at this specific location and I ordered takeout for my family. I got angel wings, pad see ew, combo seafood soup, spicy pork, green salad, and the monster. My mom LOVED the monster and we all thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the meals. All were delightful and savory in their own ways. However, it was restaurant policy that they can only serve dine in (100% understandable; I used to work at restaurants before and we had the same policy will alcohol.) I'm only mentioning because the staff who worked with me explained it in such a reasonable and pleasant way. I also appreciate how they double checked the orders. They had me reconfirm after they finished taking the order and once again before I picked it up. We actually looked at all the foods individually inside the bag and confirmed that everything was good to go. Kinda off tangent, but I ended up chatting with a (I assume a regular customer?) while waiting for the food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]His enthusiasm was very much appreciated. Wow. I've been coming here for 16+ YEARS, since I was a child. I work night shifts so I ordered my favorite S-1 for pickup. I pick up my food, get back to work and realized they just gave me shrimp fried rice. So I drive back and ask for a refund. The lady examines my order, acknowledges that they gave me the wrong order and says she will fix it for me. I tell her I just want a refund, not for the order to be fixed. She literally yells at me I WILL GIVE YOU YOUR REFUND! Then storms into the kitchen and starts berating the chefs! She starts yelling to the chefs I WANT A REFUND! I WANT A REFUND! She clearly was not having a good day. I tell her look, you shouldn't be yelling at people. In fact I should be the one mad right now because you wasted my gas, time and I no longer have time to eat dinner anymore. She just stares at me and says here is your refund. Man, what a hateful person. I was being respectful the entire time this happened and I walked out speechless. I will never come back here again. S1 barbecue chicken and rice, so yummy I do at times asked for my chicken to be well done so that the skin is charred and crispy the way I like it but even if it isn't charred, it's still delicious. This restaurant is a savior when you are left struggling to wait in long lines for a restaurant in Koreatown on a Sunday evening! We ended up going here after our first choice left us waiting for 30 minutes and still being only 13th in line. Being incredibly hungry, sad and tired, we were on the way back home when we saw this restaurant we were both familiar with. 1) It's superb enough to be able to park inside a lot for free around Koreatown. 2) We saw vacant tables and lots of servers ready to serve us! We were able to sit down, order food, and eat within 10 minutes. Unfortunately, they told us that they were out of the BBQ chicken and the BBQ spare ribs. However, the other food items we ordered tasted delicious! Combination seafood soup, pork pad see-ew, pork with broccoli, teriyaki salmon with shrimp fried rice, and sate dinner were what we ordered! My favorite out of the dishes was the pad see-ew! The noodles were soft, chewy, and delicious with the meat. The salmon plate was not my cup of tea. I wished it was more moist and had more flavoring in the meat. The sauce ontop of it was good but once you take a larger cut of it more, it tasted bland. Other than that, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful! I enjoyed that other workers (not just our main server) came up to us and asked us for anything several times. The Food and Service is horrendous with very Rude workers. They used to be decent when I lived down the block in 2019 I went there at least 4 times a month. They brought me out some nasty looking Gray colored beef that looks like someone pulled it out of dishwater than a BBQ like the Menu displays (and what they used to serve) . I had that dish at least 7 times in the past (2019) and it was good. I asked the Guy "What is this he brought me" (on a Half Dish no less) and he said "You no like" I said "For one I ordered Spicy and you brought me boiled Beef dripping in water with what looked like Microwaved Broccoli mixed in." He said "Ok I put Spice on Top now ok and come right back" . I assumed the Chef was going to actually cook it this time but the waiter came back out and literally put their Hot seasoning on top and handed me the same dish. There were 3 employees looking from the back when he handed it to me laughing so at that point I had an inkling maybe some "Nefarious" things had been done to my dish so I said "Forget it I am not paying for this and he took it back". I gave them another chance to maybe order something else and waited another 10 minutes but they just let me sit there with a Glass of Water and nothing else so I got up and left. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I am not sure what happened to this place but it went to Hell in a Handbasket for sure.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I wouldn't serve my Aggravating Neighbors Dog food from this establishment and honestly think the "B" rating should be an "F". Beef broccoli, garlic beef (eh), fried rice (was same fried rice that came with chicken and ribs, except had a handful of shrimp in top and that was supposed to make it "shrimp fried rice" (Eh). The panang curry had good flavor, but the chicken had the bone in. Minus two stars for that. Would have been much better if it was served boneless and more potatoes, there was like 1 potato in each dish. C'mon. Service was as quick and friendly. We got in before the lunch rush. Bland, soggy meat, even the ones from the upgraded fried rice meat melts in your mouth in a bad way like you're eating liver. It's my first time leaving a review but we've been at this location a lot of times throughout the past 20 years. Our orders came quickly though, my daughter was even surprised on how fast the food were served. Everything is still really good and flavorful. We had a wonderful dinner and realized just how much we miss coming here. We don't live in LA, so we have no choice but to go to their other location which is closer to us. The BBQ beef rib dinner, the grilled BBQ chicken dinner, and pad thai. My bf and I share this between us and have leftovers for later. If I'm feeling fancy, I'll also throw in a thai tea. The dinners come with shrimp fried rice and their sweet/sour dipping sauce. Minus 1 star because the pad thai I had a couple days ago had pork that didn't taste the freshest and they are giving a much smaller cup of their dipping sauce.
