Close to the courthouse with signs pointing the way to the cafe. Reasonable prices for the drinks. The charcoal mocha was very good and I returned a couple times after my jury duty was done for it. I didn't try any food so I can't comment on how it is. It gets a little crowded when the courthouse lets people go for lunch but there's some outdoor seating so it's not a big issue. read more

It had the typical toppings and I added almond butter for a bit of fat all the fruit was flavorful. It was a bit pricey but açaí bowls are a bit bougie and guess. I love this place!! Opens early! LIFE SAVER for people on early jury duty. They have many great options for breakfast and coffee! I got hot brew coffee and acai bowl. Yum! Really great coffee spot! Stopped in for a quick breakfast and was very pleased! The latte was delicious and came with latte art, the yogurt parfait cup and fruit/granola bowl were so delicious. The avocado toast was pretty basic (just slices of avocado with salt and pepper) but they have fancier options if you prefer an upgrade. Kuma is a cute little spot and despite some fails during my first visit, I can see why it's popular. We ordered 2 Açaí Bowls and 1 Açaí Smoothie. There were 2 people in line in front of us and about 4 people working there and it took a good 15-20 minutes for our order to be ready. Our order wasn't correct ( I asked for my bowl without bananas and they included them.) Also, once we got in the car I realized they didn't put spoons in the bag. Ughh. When I went back to ask for spoons, I literally had to wait in line just to ask for a spoon because no one would acknowledge me waiting there to ask a question. Their Açaí is really delicious, so I get it. But, service was pretty below average for me. I don't know if I'll be back. read more

I LOVE and I HATE venues like these. I love it because it's local and 9 out 10 times, local food and services are way better. I hate it because there is no quick or easy parking available! Hence the 3 stars parking. Especially in downtown where you need a quick cup of coffee, but don't want to pay $25 for parking or pay $15 for courthouse coffee. The street parking spaces were all taken, so I ended up parking in the 3 minute passenger spot-but also my order was taking a while. Anyways, I got the ham, cheese, sandwich combo-5 stars! If you're able to find parking, I highly recommend that. The bread infused with oil added a nice extra savory taste to the sandwich. Good luck with parking! read more

When you have a Kuma in your life even if he's a little pup that lives across the country with your sister, you can't miss the opp to stop by Kuma cafe. From the outside it looks small and like they wouldn't really have much going on, but to your surprise they will have a menu with great selections. I ordered an avocado toast and a smoothie (I forget which but it was green) The avocado toast looks meh - they slice the avocados instead of smashing them. But take a bite bc you judged a toast by its cover. This toast won't have that mushy avocado sensation to it, but the toast is crispy and it's actually a fairly good amount of avo. The smoothie is huge. I probably didn't need all that after the toast but I didn't realize it'd be that big. You can really taste the different fruits that are in the smoothie tho. If I lived in SD I'd probably come again. read more

This breakfast/coffee spot was a few blocks away from our hotel. My sister and I stopped in on a Friday morning at around 8:30 ish before the rest of our group was up because we were in need of some coffee. I ordered the cold brew, and it did not disappoint. For food, we got the Croissant Sandwich (ham, egg, provolone, avocado on fresh-baked butter croissant) - this was amazing. It might have been the best croissant breakfast sandwich I've ever had because it came with some type of garlic aioli inside, which really made the sandwich. It will set you back about $10 though, so it is pretty pricey for a breakfast sandwich. But, it's a good size and you can definitely share amongst two people and be satisfied (we split amongst three just to try it, and we also weren't that hungry). It does take a bit for the food to come out, so just be mindful of that. Might not be the best place if you are in a hurry or are looking to grab a quick bite. We stopped by a second time on the same morning with the rest of the group. I needed another coffee so this time, I got Lavender Vanilla Latte, which they were able to make iced. I liked it at first but the more I drank it, the thicker it tasted and I had just gotten it with skim milk. I would just stick to regular cold brew next time. My sisters actually tried to come a third time on Saturday morning to try and get the croissant sandwich again. Google said they were open, but they are actually closed on the weekends! So no croissant and no coffee :( But I'm glad we got to check this place out. read more

Amazing olive bread however when ordering an egg sandwich the bread is so big that the sandwich needed more than one egg so you had egg in every bite. If not then there was only egg in about 1/2 the sandwich. Staff could have been friendlier but was fine. We stayed at the Westin so this location was extremely convenient. The coffee was amazing. I've been here a couple times because it is at convenient location for me when I'm in DT San Diego. It's a bit tucked away on the side street but it's still very easy to find. The place is a little cafe that has a few tables inside and a few in the patio. I've had a number of things here including the avocado toast, the acai bowl, and the smoothie. Of all of them, I'd choose the smoothie. The avocado toast, although good, was not worth the price that I paid. It was pretty pricey for what felt like slivers of avocado, garlic, on a thin piece of toasted bread. I wouldn't go back for that. The acai bowl was pretty hefty but it felt pre-made and more icy than I had hope. That said, the toppings are sizable and it was overall decent. The smoothie was tasty and although still pricey, it felt that it packed more of a punch than the other items that I've had. All that said, I come for the convenience. It's right there and they are friendly. One thing I wish they would do better is to speed up the process. I feel that every time I'm there, I feel like I'm waiting there for quite a while for items that I feel shouldn't take that long to make. read more

First time in SD and each of the 3 days I was there, I stopped in for breakfast. Each time I had a specialty avo toast (so flavorful!) and a smoothie (tried both the Umi and classic açaí smoothie both with vanilla protein). Each day came up to around $18 before tip so it's a little pricey, but a splurge on vacation. The specialty avo toast and smoothie came out within 10 minutes of ordering each day. The smoothie is one size only and filling alongside of the avo toast. Everything tasted very fresh and the staff was kind. The place is also very cute inside and there's outside seating as well. Yesterday was the first time I entered Kuma Cafe. My mom and I were looking for a place to have breakfast near the Courthouse where I have jury duty. And after driving around in circles and walking around, we finally saw a sign that said COFFEE (vertically). And what did we know? We stumbled upon the cutest cafe in Downtown. I would say it's a decently sized place. Four outdoor tables. Inside you have two bar area seating and three tables available in addition to that. The menu is so colorful and definitely adds brightness to my mornings. Love that. Yesterday (July 31st): I ordered an iced lavender vanilla latte. And you know me, I absolutely LOVE lavender. This was a pretty tasty latte because I could taste both flavor profiles. Yay! (9/10) Oh yeah, it was really odd but I couldn't find any straws at the sugar/utensil table. I usually bring my reusable metal straw, but it's not allowed to the courthouse. Today, August 1st: I decided to order my second favorite latte-- the Viennese. Which is also known as, cinnamon and honey. I must admit, first taste I didn't really enjoy it. Who knows, it could be because of the cinnamon or honey. No big deal, I'm just glad to have a warm drink. (It was actually very hot). Pretty design on top too. I have to say, I really love the way Kuma Cafe makes their Avocado Toast, not to mention their quality Cafe au Lait. The nicely sliced ripe avocado were laid on a Rosemary Olive Oil thick bread. It was nicely toasted, had great texture, and tasted great. The slice cherry tomatoes were just right. They had a bit of sweetness and a touch of acidity. The garnish of chili flakes were a nice move, and as usual, you can't go wrong with some salty feta cheese to bring it all together. Well done. The Cafe au Lait was just right: smooth with a mild richness and easy to drink. The small cafe offers a small amount of seating inside and outside, and they excel at friendly welcoming service. read more

Everything here tastes FABULOUS. It is very small, so seating can be a little difficult, but the decor is bright and relaxing. Although a little pricey, even their simple avocado toast really shines. I even got a croissant ham and egg sandwich to go, and it was still so good hours later! They have quality ingredients and it shows. The employees are very nice, expedient, and friendly. Another amazing meal at the Kumi Cafe with our friends. We don't get together much, but when we do we vote to go to Kumi. Michelle, our server, always remembers us and treats us like family. I had the Shrimp Tempura crunch roll, so yummy. I also tried the calamari rings this time, which were good. Our friends had the ramen and udon, both filling and delicious.
