Kuma's has been on my list for a long time, but since I'm rarely in the area, I never had a chance to check it out. That is until last week, when a friend invited me to join them for dinner. I was so excited to finally make it there, and I was drooling all day looking at their menu. I'm happy to say it didn't disappoint! They've got a great drink selection, and I started off with a bottle of Ciderboys Strawberry Magic. I went for the Plague Bringer with house-made chips and loved it. The patty was cooked perfectly and super juicy, and the toppings complemented each other nicely. Be warned though, you will get messy. The burgers are huge (picture doesn't do it justice) and the toppings are generous; you could definitely get two meals out of one burger. We've been talking about going here since it came to Indy but living on the Northside makes it a trek. We finally took the time last weekend to check it out. When we got there we were sad to see a lot of people waiting. We still went up to the host and were pleased to find out they had immediate seating for couples, the wait was just for larger groups. Our server was really great. Good timing, personable. Since we'd never been we decided to try a couple things and take home leftovers. I tried the Slayer and got some Mac and cheese with prosciutto and peas. Both had great flavor, I took home well over half and was able to feed myself lunch and dinner the next day. Husband got the Mastadon and Mac and cheese with bacon and more bacon. He loved his as well. I also tried their Bloody Mary, great flavor and spice. Before we went I was a little nervous about the atmosphere because I heard they played loud death metal which is not my thing. They were playing songs exclusively by Dethklok, the burger of the month was based on Metalocalypse. I happened to be in fountain square at lunch time on Sunday and saw Kumas. This is a place I had heard of on many sites as having really good burgers. I ealked in and we were immediately seated at a small table. The restaurant isnt very large so I was glad I decided by sheer luck to eat here on Sunday as it was very busy so at times when you would expect it to be busy I am sure it may be a wait to get in. The decor is bar with a large dose of heavy metal. I love hard rock and thought it was both cool and unique to aee this as a theme. The last and only other place I have ever seen with that theme was the bar at Three Floyds in Muenster. There is a nice dose of nonstop hard rock and a complete wallpapering of the bathroom with concert bills. Service was great and we had a review off the extensive beer menu. I like a place that specializes in lots of choices. I wanted the local Centerpoint El Gato but unfortunately they were out. They did have a good Three Floyds on tap but i felt it would be too heavy so I went with the waitresses recommendation if another local beer from Westfield Our lightest beer. It was a good german beer. Note you can find the current beer tap list on Untapped app. Now for the burgers, I didn't think twice about getting a burger as I had head so many good things about them. I chose the Iron Maiden burger. There was no mark of the beast in this huge 10 oz delicious sandwich. I wisely chose the chips as those aren't as filling as fries. The chips were pretty good. The burger tasted fresh and was adequately juicy. I ordered it medium well and didn't see any pink. It was hard to even get this into my mouth it was so big that i ate it at an angle. The toppings were each a great addition. I love avocados and these added a nice richness to the burger which was not greasy at all. The onion had a great taste and no bitterness. The peppers aded enough heat. I didn't notice the cheese in the burger as it was so large. The pretzel bun seemed cold though not heated and part broke while eating the sandwich. I was slightly disappointed in the bun but otherwise a top tier burger. Thoughts overall cool place, super expensive for Indy but probably not Chicagoland area. Service great food excellent. Many have asked if you can bring kids here well the music is loud metal but if you go I think Sunday afternoon would be the best time. Been to Kuma's many times and their burgers are fantastic! To be honest I really don't think you can go wrong with any of them. On top of that their jalapeño poppers are a must get every time you come in, no questions asked. The ambience is nice, but it can certainty be off putting to some and to them I say just get takeout and your problem is solved. The only negative I really have is that you get charged extra for sauces and that personally always annoys me, but other than that you can't go wrong stopping in here! Wow! The last time I saw canned mushrooms on something in a restaurant was when I ordered a pizza in a third-world country (expected.) The pleasant side was that there was a ton of blue cheese on it. We were asked how we wanted the burger cooked: ie. "Pink or no pink" I take that as medium or well, so I said pink, alas the burger had no pink. I still ate it, and it was not bad, I'm just being a bit hyper-critical per se. I got a side of mac and cheese which was a ridiculous portion, again it was okay. I've been to Kuma's a handful of times. It's great, but I just don't think I'm the target clientele. The metal music is loud -- I'm not a metal fan and I like to chat with my table mates (which is hard to do inside due to the loud music; outside is fine). The burgers are huge and charbroiled (if I eat red meat, I prefer slimmer, non-Smokey burgers; they do allow you to swap beef for other proteins, but when I actually go to a burger place, I get beef). I realize my feedback is all due to my personal preference; my husband is fine with the music and loves the charbroiled beef. While those aren't my preference, I will definitely return to Kuma's solely on the reason of service. The service here is incomparable to most places in Indy. It's quite the place, I really like it I've been a few times and have never had a bad experience the burgers are hearty and always have something creative put on them, and are named after a heavy metal band. Took another 10 minutes to get our drinks. Mind you at this time there were only a couple of tables who all had food and drinks. 4 groups of people walked in before us who got their drinks and some food before we were even asked for our food order. Took about another 45 minutes to get our food. Not once did our bartender ask if we wanted another drink or even asked how our food was. My Mac n Cheese was dry and the burger we got was wrong. She was on her phone almost the ENTIRE time. This other guy came in and took over for her. Super nice but at that point we were done with being there . Fried pickles 4.5/5 such a good double crunch to these pickles and the breading has a good seasoning to it. Goat Burger 4.8/5 this one was amazing. The flavors worked so well together and the patty was thiccc and juicy. I loved the goat cheese and Cholula lemon vinaigrette flavor combo. My only beef (get it?) was that the bun was cold. Not sure if that's intentional but it made me a little sad. Fries 4/5 the showstopper was the spicy ketchup served with the fries. I prefer my fries on the crispier side but these were not bad. Iron Maiden 4/5 This juicy burger is pretty classic with a little bite from the jalapeño. The patty is also perfect on this one, and the bun was also cold. For my last day living in Fountain Square, where else could we go than the recently reborn Kuma's Corner?? This is my personal favorite food destination in all of Indianapolis. Coming here, you should expect 3 things: a heavy metal loud atmosphere, huge portions, and the most friendly and helpful staff you'll find in the whole city. This time was no different: they played amazing classics like Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Avenged sevenfold at max volume, the staff was friendly and talkative, making you feel at home in a possibly foreign environment, and the portions of delicious food were large and delicious. We started with the jalapeño poppers, which we should've realized would've taken real estate in our main course appetites, but we couldn't help it!! They were spicy, creamy, and the raspberry jam sauce that came with it perfectly balanced the flavors of the poppers alone. Usually, poppers come with cheese, but these coming with a berry sauce and being larger portions truly blew out any expectation I previously had with Jalapeño poppers! My wife got the goat snake burger, which had goat cheese, fried onions, a corn salsa, cilantro, and a poblano chili relish. This burger is masterfully crafted, hitting the sweet, bitter, spicy, and savory flavor nodes in a way that makes you savor every bite you take. It is not only refreshing, but also salty and filling with the dairy and fried aspects of the burger. My personal favorite, but I had to try the burger of the month!! If you love cheese and pizza flavors, this burger is for you! It came with 2 slices of provolone, Cheeto crusted mozzarella sticks, pizza sauce, and a sort of Chimichurri sauce, along with the normal burger toppings. Obviously with the dairy and heavy meat combo, this burger will fill you up QUICKLY. Keep in mind it was 6:30 on a weeknight and they were at about half capacity. We did end up sitting on the patio and it was great. Then our server was less than enthusiastic it seemed. Maybe having a bad day. Our food and our drinks made up for the sub par service. We had cheese curds which were the best I've had in a while and I had the Iron Maiden burger. Really delicious burger and chips! The beer they have is unique and a big variety. I loved how the services was honestly and helpful. I did find it hard to eat; the burger was as big as my face and very sticky from the maple syrup. Loved that there was a whole area for parking, makes going downtown less if a headache. I had the metallica burger and just added a sunny side up and my mouth had to open really wide for it to really not spill the contents. My son chowed down on the fries and the chips. Plenty of good beer on tap as well. My one knock was are fries was way over cooked and not very good. I normally don't write reviews but unfortunately the service I received was so bad it has stuck with me enough for me to write this. I've been going to Kuma's Corner for a while now and have always recommended it to my friends. My friend was visiting from out of state for GenCon so I said "Hey let's go to my favorite burger place, good beer, great burgers and the staff is always really chill." We're both metalheads and I love being able to listen to some of my favorite bands while enjoying a beer and a good burger. We got seated quickly and the hostess was great and polite, getting our initial waters took a second but nothing too bad and we were ready to order pretty quickly. The server has a "kill all yuppies" shirt and I thought it was cool and was looking forward to our meal because I had never been served by this person before. After ordering I didn't see my server for the next hour. They were attending to all of their tables except us. I had finished my beer and another person ran our food out to us after about 35-40 minutes from ordering. My friend ordered another beer from the person running the food and I ordered a Diet Coke because I was driving. I saw the runner tell the server the drink order and after another 10-15 minutes he got his beer and he told me "I'll be back later with your diet coke." Remember, this is the second time I've seen him in maybe an hour while he was checking on all the tables surrounding us every 5-10ish minutes. I asked my friend if I had done anything wrong and he said he didn't notice anything and asked me why and I brought up what had been happening. after another 20-25 minutes my friend flagged the server down to ask for my diet coke because at this point I was about to finish my food finally since I was waiting for a drink. My friend asked for a takeout container which the server almost gave to the wrong table and He offered to pay for our meal as a thank you since I've been driving him around while he's visiting. He stated he wasn't sure if he should even tip because at that point he really didn't feel like he had been given any service. I said that I could leave something in that case since I used to be a restaurant manager years ago and I understand things happen but that they still should get something. When he paid the server made it a point to not look while my friend was putting in the tip only to IMMEDIATELY look at the tip and give a snarky "Thank you so very much" to the lower than average tip he left. Both my friend and I typically tip between 30-45% on good service because we feel like we should let people know we appreciate being cared for but for the first time in years I didn't do this because even while locking eyes with the server multiple times through the service they just stayed at the kitchen window ignoring my table for almost the entire time we were there. I don't think I'll be going back anymore because the one thing I had enjoyed was the great service but, at least in this case, it's no longer present. read more

- Food: my dish was really good. I got the Kuma burger, with grilled chicken & without a bun. The chicken was freshly grilled, and the marinade was really nice. It wasn't dry, and they provided a thick slice of tomato, onion & a wedge of fresh lettuce. Loved the fried egg (I added some salt & pepper to the yolk and used it as a dip for my fires). The crispy bacon & cheddar cheese brought it all together: Overall the food exceeded my expectations! - Atmosphere: loved the music as I grew up listening to metal, and had a warm nostalgic feeling upon hearing the tunes that were playing . If you you dig metal (thrash, death, doom, popular and even other less popular European metal bands) -the music alone would make it worth the trip. The decor was perfectly in tune with the metal theme, and the burgers all have names of epic metal bands which was clever and a lot of fun. Our server was friendly and service was on point.
