    Breaded Tenderloin

Great ambience and food at this landmark location in Indianapolis near the speedway. Park on two sides of the building.Food can be brought to your car,(just turn lights on) or to your table outside on the patio. Get into the 50s vibes. Service staff is very nice and efficient. She also did a great job considering it was understaffed that day.

Food: great price for what you get. My peanut butter banana shake was delicious. My son loved his root beer float. Apparently they make their own root beer. Onion rings were light and crispy. Not too much batter which made them easy to eat and not feel full. We got the chicken tenders, hamburger and cheese burger kids meal. All yummy. We will most definitely be back to try more of the big menu. Service was quick, friendly and everything you'd want. Ambiance: place is older/run down but that really just adds to the character. It's been around for a while so it was to be expected. Can't wait to come back and try their desserts and other shake flavors .

I love that this place still has your order taken and brought out to the car window! You can't go wrong with a tasty cheeseburger and French fries or onion rings! Root Beer is a must! The tenderloin is one of my favorites!

Everyone talks about the drive-in, but don't miss the pizza shop in the back! (The pizza shop is carry-out only.) I'm usually not a huge fan of pizza, but I'll eat this one EVERY chance I get! Their pizza is consistently excellent- nice, slight crisp to the crust, great cheese, a nice sauce, plenty of toppings... I'm salivating just thinking of it. My family has been getting pizza here since I was a kid (about 45 years ago)!

Long time old fashion car hop!!! Food is good...they have a full menu with all sorts of things, we ordered double cheeseburger, chili cheese dogs and onion rings and mugs of homemade root beer!!! Service was great and atmosphere is awesome..definitely family and pet friendly. They have a nice covered area with tables to eat and you can also just pull up and someone will come and take your order. Also a walk in restaurant next door!! Give them a try...we definitely will be going back to try other menu items.

I pulled up and received service right at my car door window. I ordered root beer floats, onion rings, and French fries! I didn't wait very long to receive my food once I placed my order. Onions rings were hot and crispy, on the larger side (definitely shareable). The root beer float was deliciously sweet and creamy! The root-beer was one of the best I've had so good!

The chili cheese dog with onions and fries is delicious.

Mug n Bun is a Westside staple after 50 years and loved by many with a steady following. Unfortunately, it is currently for sale and some uncertainty for the future for us who visit often. Our go-to's are the chili dogs and family size French fries. My son loves the breaded tenderloin with everything on it. The milk shakes are good, and I order the peanut butter. The shrimp, chicken, and catfish dinners are very popular. The Italian Sausage and Polish Sausage are decent, and the Sirloin Steak Hoagie is hit and miss. Sometimes it is very tender and next time tough. There is outdoor seating on the deck with indoor seating at the Mug n Bun house next to the parking lot. They are open year round. Mug n Bun Pizza is located at the back of the parking lot. Pizzas are CARRY OUT ONLY. They are very popular with patrons. Pizzas are obviously offered as well as subs, fried chicken, pork chops dinners, and chicken dinners along with family dinners. Family dinners include potatoes, slaw, and rolls. After 54 years, they must be doing something right! Whether you carry out, sit in your car to eat, sit on the deck, or go indoors, it will trigger those nostalgia days of car hops and drive-ins. Stop in and take advantage of Mun n Bun in case they disappear from Speedway soon.

Ask the Community - Mug n Bun

I'm just wondering why they don't do card tip for the servers? I always feel real bad because I don't carry cash with me everytime I go to mug n bun. I understand that it's an old fashion drive in but the servers deserve every opportunity for a tip.

I would assume that this is because of the high transaction costs of credit card machines and the % that the credit card company takes. I did however see today that they are taking zelle, Venmo, and cash app for tips as well as cash.

Is there actually a differences between the superburger and the double cheeseburger?

    The Super has Bacon.

My boyfriend and I came on Mother's day (unintentionally) and we waited about 10-15 minutes to sit at the bar. Getting our orders taken & our food served definitely took a bit of time, but we enjoyed seeing all the cooks in action and getting to smell all the amazing smells!! I got Grandpa's one pan skillet and my boyfriend got the sausage breakfast sandwich on croissant bread. All I gotta say is those chefs definitely knew what they were doing! The flavors were unique and intentional and I enjoyed every bite. The home fries (potatoes) were also so yummy and everything was cooked really well. There's nothing basic about borage and I love that! This place is a gem. They also have a cafe/market area where you can order drinks and pastries. I wish we waited until we got seated to order drinks because the menu was much more extensive than what I saw in the cafe and I would have ordered a different drink had I seen all the other options. We started with Tony's Favorite Nachos which consist of steak, chicken, chorizo or pulled pork (we chose steak) sautéed onions, peppers, house made queso, pico de gallo, guacamole, and black beans on top of freshly fried tri-colored chips. The flavors were truly amazing and often places skimp on the 'stuff' and give you a million chips - Dawsons has the perfect proportion so if anything, you have 'stuff' after the chips are gone. We loved these nachos and were from Texas so that says a lot. We also tried the Firecracker Shrimp, which are shrimp tossed in house-made honey sriracha sauce. These were unlike anything I've had. They had a crispy crunchy exterior and the sauce was to die for - I would buy the sauce alone if I could! It had heat but not crazy heat and the flavor was superb. Our table had the Beef Stroganoff. I must say I am not a fan of beef stroganoff - but this actually was prepared very well and had a very good flavor which kind of surprised me! We also tried the TriColored Tortellini with Chicken which had chicken, mushrooms, peas, sun-dried tomatoes and pesto cream sauce. The flavors were amazing together and I could have eaten more of this as well! We also had the Blackened Chicken Quesadilla which was a Cheddar jalapeño tortilla filled with sautéed chicken, black beans, roasted corn, house tomato relish, roasted red peppers, spinach, Cheddar and Mozzarella cheese. It was served with sour cream and Dawson's Cajun ranch. Although this was on the appetizer menu, it was easily an entree. It was stuffed with the ingredients and very flavorful and filling. All of the ingredients blended together very well and offered a mouth full of flavor in every bite! Finally, we tried the Bayou Chicken Salad which comes with Blackened chicken on top of iceberg/romaine mix with black beans jalapenos, roasted corn, fresh guacamole, house tomato relish, Cheddar, and Mozzarella cheese. It's served with tri-colored chips and Dawson's Cajun ranch. I left the chips and corn off. This was a generous salad with superb flavors. The dressing was wonderful - a little heat and a lot of flavor. Again, this was very filling as well. There was nothing I could find 'wrong' with Dawsons. The service was friendly and prompt and the food was just extremely good. I wish I could transport this place back to Texas so I could eat there more often!

I've eaten many steak omelettes and this is the first time I've ever been able to order the steak cooked to my preference. Most places serve them well done. I asked for medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. It also had cheese and diced green peppers and onions. Nice size and great flavor. Their hash browns were perfect - crispy on the outside but tender inside. The pancakes are large and nicely prepared - not too heavy but not too light! The waffles are also very good - very large and circular - not as thick as Belgian waffles but very good nonetheless. The fried sliced loaded potatoes were excellent. Cheese, bacon, peppers and onions - again, very tasty. Finally, biscuits and sausage gravy were also very good. The gravy had plenty of sausage in it and it was not too runny and not too thick! The 7 Pepper gold sauce and the 7 Pepper BBQ sauce are awesome! Both have great flavors and the perfect heat - and are made in-house. We took a few bottles to go, which says a lot! Food: Pulled Pork Nachos - The toppings are fairly sparse and the pulled pork is only just fine. It really needs something to amp the flavor up like more acidic tomatoes, a stronger pork rub, or punchier drizzle. 3/5 Fried brussels - For enjoyers of this vegetable, this is a good appetizer. They're lightly crispy and well seasoned with the sriracha honey glaze rounding out the bitter profile of brussels well. 4/5 We split a Whiskey Burger and Spicy Bacon Ranch Burger and honestly both were nothing special. The meat didn't stand out in any way. It wasn't particularly large, it wasn't smoked or seared specially, it just tasted like a regular patty. The toppings were fine but I wished there was thicker glaze or they gave you some aoili on the side because they were somewhat dry overall (not the patty itself but the entire burger) 3/5 The regular fries are good, I'm a fan of thicker cuts and these were still crispy. 4/5 The truffle parm fries were drenched in truffle oil which made them soggy and were way too over-powering 1/5 Overall I don't think I'll be back. The restaurant and food itself is fine but there are other places I like better that have either better prices, higher quality, punchier flavors, or more creativity.
