During the week they have $5 happy hour appetizer which is a plus and the beef gyoza is perfect. Ordered the Mexican roll and Red Fox roll and it was great too. The chef/owner was quick, friendly, and very accommodating. The waitress was learning but patient. The menu here is very expansive and has a lot of options. Surprisingly great experience. The inside decor is nice and authentic. Now the location isnt the safest. The outside isnt impressive at all. But in the daytime its a welcoming place to go.

This place is a gem! I stopped in for lunch right when they opened and had such a great experience. The restaurant was clean and the staff (just the sushi chef and one server) were incredibly friendly. It happened to be happy hour, and the appetizers were about half off. I ordered the spicy garlic edamame, gyoza, and the chef's special sushi plate -- everything came in generous portions and the sushi was so fresh. I live about 20 minutes away and would absolutely make the trip again and again.

Clean and fast service, went on a Thursday around 5pm, food tasted fresh and good customer service. I shared monkey ball and baked lobster roll. Monkey ball was my favorite! Never had mushrooms in this way with crab meat and Philadelphia cheese. Baked lobster was good but for me it had a little too much of the sauce that was used which over powered the sushi. I also got a crunch hand roll, good taste , good size and very filling. Overall good spot! The sushi prices range from $10-20. They also have boats for 3-4 people. Will definitely be back to try other sushi!

I can confidently say that Chef Bruce served me one of the best meals I've had all year. My family and I went to Kumi Ko a few days before Christmas, and we were absolutely blown away by the quality of ingredients and the skillfulness of execution. We did an omakase style meal, where Chef Bruce basically handcrafted a menu showcasing his signature dishes. Each dish was top-notch, highlighting different flavors and sauces and textures. Two of the standout dishes were the seafood udon, which had a warm kick (chili oil I think?) and the tako sashimi which was served with a citrusy gochujang sauce. But regardless of what you order, I genuinely don't think you could go wrong. Next time our family is in LA, we will definitely be back!

I work right around the corner and I just tried Kumi Ko today! Their sushi was really good and tempura was fresh! I also tried their Iced Matcha drink and I would definitely recommend trying this sushi spot here in Compton! There was only one person working so it did take a little longer to get serviced but overall the service and ambiance of the restaurant was amazing! I plan on returning.

What a Gem! This is truly a delicious and cozy Compton spot. Look beyond the area and go try this delicious place . We had Heart attack and creamy Shrimp for appetizers and my partner got a few fresh sushi and I got the baked salmon roll that was super creamy and yummy! The Matcha LATTE WAS very nice

Went to place a large order and who appeared to be the manager/owner was rude and very unapologetic. He also had the audacity to give himself a huge gratuity of over $60 dollars. He also gave us 2 choices take it or leave it. So we left it. He also snatched the receipt from me, but I took a picture before hand.

Bringing sushi for Compton! my husband and I dined here one afternoon and were the only people in the place. The owner was very attentive and made sure we were taken care of. The sushi was absolutely delicious. I mean, a basic roll was just elevated and you could taste the difference. The place is very well kept and peaceful. We look forward to our next visit! read more

This little place is definitely a little gem in the middle of the hood. It was very clean, and the the people attending were very pleasant and attentive. I ordered a tiger roll and a rainbow roll for take out. Im pretty sure I didn't get the right Rainbow roll, since it's not a rainbow lol. The tiger roll was delicious! The rainbow roll was good too but not what I was expecting. Oh and this place has its own parking lot, which is a plus in this area. My boyfriend & I have been craving sushi for the past week and Kumi Ko is always our go to. It's sooo good, we usually get the Tiger Roll and popcorn lobster roll which we definitely recommend! This time we tried something new which were also so good! Get the Red Fox if you're looking for something fresh, Crunch roll if you want something that truly melts in your mouth! kumi ko on long beach blvd., compton ca. is the worse place to eat sushi. they made me a yellow tail roll and it had the skin still on it; that's a no no. i thought the chef, he got mad and took all my food and put it in the trash. he said he's been making in the u.s. for 30 years, i told him i've been eating s sushi for 39 years. of course i got my money back. then he came back and stuck his finger in my face and said "you come n ever come again". your chef was very rude and you are greatly mistaken about me eating half my food. people if you really want some really good sushi come to pasadena!! don't mess around at this place really!!!! and you had no other choice but to give me my money back. sushi should not smell fishy ; fish skin. lady you're a liar because how would you know what i ate. you got it out of the trash? i will be letting everyone know read more

I thought it was okay. We dropped over a hundred here because we were craving sushi. Maybe my palette is accustomed to the cheap stuff lol but I would rather have a futomaki roll from Sushiboy. Husband got the chicken bowl. He said the sauce wasn't sweet, but the rice was good lol Teenage son liked the pork cutlet. No complaints I got yakisoba with beef. It wasn't bad, but a little greasy. Shrimp n Crab hand roll. Good. Double Famous roll. Good, but smallish. Golden California roll. Good. Crab sushi. Aiiight. Overall, it wasn't bad, but I'm going to stick with my cheap fast food sushi at Marukai/Sushiboy. read more

This Japanese gem in Compton is a surprise and mostly a delight. The location and pricing is the reason for my 4-stars. The area is not bad but I usually approach the restaurant traveling north off the 710. You must not drive too fast or you'll miss the narrow driveway on the corner. The parking is long and narrow, slanted mall parking with one way in, one way out. It's narrow parking especially for trucks. The service is outstanding and the restaurant is clean and not overly decorated. It's small. Ppl aren't sitting on top of each other but you can hear other conversations throughout the restaurant. At the end of our meal, a party of six came and I think that's about the right number. No more or they will be crowded. I ordered a Bento box. My chicken was tender and tasty. The garlic edamame was great with light oil. It was a little pricey but not too high , I think. We'll be returning often for takeout and dining in before dark. read more

There is a good sushi place in Compton and this is it. The people that run it are very friendly. Their menu is varied. I had a sashimi lunch combo that was very good. I also had a pretty nice spicy tuna hand roll and a lovely Saba sushi. I will definitely be back. Straight outta Compton - go figure. read more

I ordered here based on reviews and was extremely disappointed. The sushi falls apart, the customer service was horrible I walked in nobody said anything kept doing what they were doing I was standing in front of cash register for 10 min until I had to express I was here for a pick up order. They charged me extra for everything and california roll was $10 each which is expensive for the quality they gave me. This business is the type that nickels and dime every penny. My recommendation is to find another sushi place read more

This is like an oasis in the the desert. Amazing sushi and Japanese cuisine in the middle of COMPTON! Decoré is on point! First came the roasted garlic edamame! It was a nice sweet take on the already delicious edamame! For the main course we shared 3 rolls! Tiger, spider, and crunchy, Each with there own very unique distinct flavors! The tiger was lightly spicy with a hint of eel sauce that greatly complimented the heat of the spicy tuna. This tempura roll exceeded expectations. The spider roll took on a form of crunchy crabby sweetness with its vibrant orange caviar outside the roll and the fried creamy filling inside the crab roll played together very well, the mixture of flavor and presentation was outstanding to say the least! Lastly, the crunchy tempura roll was our familiar bet, however the classic sushi roll was brought to live by the homemade tempura and spice California combination! All in all I will be coming back and trying more of this amazing menu! Great great food!!! read more

I never thought it would be possible to have a local sushi spot living in Compton. Couldn't believe my eyes. Had a wonderful meal and wont be my last. Best sushi in town. Food is fresh, delicious and always on point. A nice arrange of Japanese food. In my opinion the cherry blossom roll is the best. Perfectly balanced, slightly spicy and fresh. Udon soups are delicious and perfect for rainy days. So far all appetizers are a hit but the dumplings are great! The miso soup is a nice start and the Thai tea is perfect with any meal. Bruce along with all the other employees provide amazing service everytime we stop by. And to finish the meal... you should get the banana tempura, it is spectacular! I ordered the Kumi Ko roll which was so good. Although I ordered it for me, my husband ate most it. I also ordered the bento box w/teriyaki chicken that came w/a small salad, tempura shrimp & veggies, and 4 rolls of spicy tuna. They have other options to choose from. My husband ordered the sashimi mixed boat. It came w/hearty pieces of salmon, albacore, ono and 2 other types of fish. He ate it all & said they were really fresh, which is really important. We went here for lunch and I'm sorry to say it was a solid meh. We both had bento boxes. Positives: excellent service! Really outstanding. Good green tea. Excellent gyoza. Very good purple cauliflower tempura and most of the rest of the tempura good. Negatives: sushi rice not very solid, and almost lukewarm;fell apart. Sushi fish just not particularly good flavor either Tempura dipping sauce not good. Onion and the green bean tempura mushy. I wish it had been better as it's clearly family owned and at least the wait staff is really trying. But I won't be back. Life is too short for mediocre Japanese food read more

Found this little gem online by searching for sushi places that have sweet potato rolls - was very impressed with the menu regarding all their options especially veggie rolls - more than just the typical avocado and cucumber roll options. Hostess and chief were super friendly and since it was our first time here I kept asking the chief what he would recommend with what we wanted since their menus have no pictures and he was super helpful in explaining and everything that he recommended was very good and met our liking. They were also super nice wIth our kids and made sure we were Lways taken care of. The food was delicious and enough to get you full. The outside does look a bit run down but don't let that fool you out of their greatfood . First of all, it's in Compton. Of course I read the reviews but, I was still skeptical. I live in Orange County around a lot of amazing Asian foods including a lot of delicious sushi. I can literally eat sushi every other day. I don't but, I could. The first time I came here, I made the mistake of not ordering ahead. I waited a long time. I was irritated since I was on my lunch. But, I realized it was my fault. There's no indoor dining. The first time I came, it was pouring rain. I came the second time and they had tents and tables set up outside. It was cute. You have to order inside first and take your stuff outside to eat. I got the sashimi and sushi bento the first time. I was shocked how fresh the fish tasted. And how much food it came with. I was feeling a little extra that day and also ordered a hand roll and an order of ikura. It also came with Miso soup. I got the sashimi lunch special and it was just enough. Again, it was tasty and fresh. And they're so nice. I've only been there once and the lady inside remembered me! When I'm craving sushi at work, I'll come have it here! Okay so let me start off by saying that I found out about this place nearly a year ago and omg do I regret not writing a review before because this place is AMAZING. I love sushi and I'm so glad I don't have to drive out of my city to get some now. Kumi Ko is consistent, delicious, and reliable. Never fails. My favorite special roll is the Crunch Red Fox roll and my current favorite is the Spicy Chicken meal, which for the price you also get rice, salad, and a miso soup! If you're thinking of trying this place out pls do so! Since COVID many places have been affected drastically and there's still ways for us to support. They always have my food ready for pick up and I've ordered on Uber eats and my food gets to me on time and still hot and fresh depending on the meal!! What a pleasant surprise. Did not think a restaurant of this quality would exist in the humble city of Compton. I had the Spicy Sashimi Salad and was blown away by the freshness of the ingredients and the bursts of flavor I had with every bite. Walking inside the restaurant felt like teleporting into a different world - with upscale traditional Japanese decor and soft jazz permeating from the speakers. The service was attentive, responsive, and quick. The pricing is slightly more expensive than your Yasais or Niko Nikos but the quality is far superior. You get what you pay for and more. read more

The sushi was fresh and beautifully presented, and the service was top-notch. Although the lunch menu was a bit pricey, the quality justified the cost. Despite not being located in the best part of town, the establishment had its own parking lot, and I felt safe throughout my visit. We were told the chef would arrive between 6:00-6:30 PM to set up so we could begin eating at 7:00 PM. Around 6:15 PM, after hearing nothing, I reached out and was told the previous event was running behind and the chef would arrive closer to 7:00 PM. At 7:30 PM, the chef called and informed us he was still about an hour away. He ultimately didn't arrive until around 8:45 PM, and dinner wasn't served until about 9:30 PM--roughly 2.5 hours later than scheduled. What was most frustrating was that we repeatedly asked for updates and were never given an accurate ETA. Had we known the delay would be this significant, we could have adjusted our plans and informed our guests accordingly. We were also told we only needed to provide tables and chairs, but when the chef arrived, we found out plates and utensils were not included either. I want to emphasize that the chef himself was fantastic. The food was great, he was entertaining, and he handled the situation professionally. My issue is entirely with the company's communication and customer service. After the event, I politely requested consideration for a partial refund or discount due to the delays and miscommunication. I have yet to receive any response. The chef earned 5 stars. The company's communication and customer service earned 1.
