Very calm atmosphere, attentive server, delicious food. The restaurant was not busy when I went with a calm atmosphere. I ordered the chicken teriyaki which comes with white rice, ginger salad, and miso soup. The ginger salad and miso soup was good just what you would expect. The chicken teriyaki was good coming out of the kitchen sizzling on a hot skillet. It was delicious and the sauce wasn't super sticky like it is traditionally which I preferred. My girlfriend ordered the ocean roll and shrimp tempura. The ocean roll was delicious but a little expensive in my opinion being $16. The shrimp tempura and vegetables was very refreshing and delicious. Overall would definitely come back. read more

Staff friendly and helpful, cute little place. Decent price lunch special. Chicken teriyaki is similar to boiled chicken with less thickened teriyaki sauce over it on a bed of onions, California roll, rice, miso soup was fine and potstickers, the ginger salad was good but way heavily dressed. First time here, and it was very good. I got the lunch special bento Box. It came with a salad with ginger dressing, miso soup (I asked if I could substitute it with the clear soup, which they were more than happy to do), Teriyaki Beef with Veggies, Rice, 3 Piece of Gyoza and a 4 piece California Roll! What a great deal for only $12.50! Well worth the money and I am leaving very full. The food looked and tasted very good. The service was great. Before my drink could even be finished, the server was refilling my cup. That was great. The lights and sushi bar added to the overall look and feel of the restaurant. Very, very disappointed with this nasty ass restaurant we seen the sushi man that makes the rolls blow his nose in a towel that they used to wipe the counter off very very dissatisfied. My brother is very unhappy at the location thank you Momentos. People did not do nothing to that guy. You were still on the butcher line. Please stay away because it's nasty unless you want. I'm a big sushi fan so I stopped in at Kumo Japanese Restaurant to get some sushi. It was the end of the night, and the woman at the counter wasn't that pleasant, she had a dismissive attitude as of to say "hurry up and buy!" Normally I would have taken my business elsewhere but it was late, my options were limited and I was hungry! Lol. I ordered the hibachi chicken & rice and a sushi roll which came with eight small pieces of sushi which they fell apart when I tried to pick them up. The chopsticks were super cheap and I had to arm wrestle one of the workers to get another soy sauce (just kidding, but my request was met with resistance). Although the food was flavorful the attitude was not part of my order. I'm on the fence about revisiting Kumo Japanese Restaurant again the next time I'm in Orlando. read more

Honestly terrible, moved to the area about a year ago and wanted to give all the local sushi spots a try. Each one has been worse than the last, but this one comes in dead last. It was overall just nasty. The ambiance is awful, the music was also atrocious. The food was borderline in edible. Tuna Tataki was horrible!!!! The whole thing was like scary - almost like ingesting food poisoning but because the meal was like, $50 you don't wanna waste it. This is a really chill, unique, family-run Japanese restaurant. Kumo was very busy when we arrived on a Sunday night and they did a great job serving everyone and being as fast as possible. The food is easily 5 Stars! I had the hibachi chicken with double fried rice (because I didn't want veggies). It came with the clear onion soup and a salad - both of which were great. The chicken and rice came in huge portions and could easily be split between two people. My food was all-around great! My husband ordered the Kumo Roll and the Shumai (steamed shrimp dumplings). He says both were excellent. It was also some of the largest sushi portions I've ever seen. Overall a great restaurant with a laid back atmosphere. We will definitely be back! I wanted to take a star for the wait but honestly, the wait turned out to be shefu's hard work at getting the order correct. I am VERY picky about sashimi. Sashimi is about enjoying the flavor of the fish without the need to drown it. Because of this, I tend towards toro or sake, preferring the belly of the fish. It's difficult, exacting work. First, if you do not understand the difference between Japanese food and Americanized Chinese food, please do not bother these people. Or at least read the menu. On a Saturday the bulk of their business was phoned in take out orders. I had to laugh hearing the very loud tourist on the phone who couldn't understand the difference in cuisine. No beef with broccoli here ma'am. I came in with a mighty want for toro. There was none but it's understandable as it's expensive and hard to get. This is my fifth trip here and I know the food is good. Ignoring my slight disappointment I ordered a soft shell crab appetizer for me and my daughter. They serve the full crab here without taking half the middle (many places do). My daughter ordered the dragon and spider (soft shell crab) rolls. She devoured both in seconds. The soft shell crab roll is fried, so it's huge. I had the Lady in Red and sake nigiri (salmon sashimi). I was very specific that I wanted the fish from the belly and shefu did not disappoint. It's a thin and difficult slice but it was beautifully and perfectly served. Everything tasted very fresh and the owners are clearly proud. Please be patient with the staff - they are a family operated establishment with one young man tending his studies while trying to help. If you are patient, you'll have a wonderful meal. They WILL tend to take out first and I can't blame them. Take out customers aren't very forgiving. If you order fried rice - yes - you'll get rice with shoyu. Because it's Japanese cuisine and fried rice is Chinese food. Iesu kirisuto! Be reasonable! read more

Taste on all items ordered were very good, savory, and fresh. It's a cute little hole-in-the-wall, but obviously, the owner puts a lot of effort into the dishes. We opted for the Japanese cuisine, minus the sushi. Several customers around us ordered sushi only. Very interesting that the owners are Chinese, but make delicious Japanese food!! I'm so glad we didn't have choices to lean towards Chinese food and call it "Asian Fusion". I particularly searched for Japanese food/restaurant, and this did not disappoint me! In Orlando for a volleyball tournament. Our girls wanted Japanese food. Found this place but the one who suggested it apparently didn't read the reviews. Took more than 15 minutes to order. Didn't get water until asking 4 times. Found a gnat in my Arnold Palmer (which could be attributed to the weather I guess). The bus boy was really apologetic about it and replaced it quickly. Female waitress is just rude. Zero tact! Zero courtesy! She appears to be miserable here! Tempura was so greasy the paper doilies were transparent. Tried to squeeze the excess oil out and that helped a little bit but who wants to work to be able to enjoy your meal. Chicken tempura had no flavor. Thankfully there's a sauce. The chicken hibachi was dry. Tasted like they added shoyu to overcooked chicken and veggies. The fried rice was simply rice with shoyu. Don't think it was even fried. If there's one thing I learned with the pandemic it's too to service providers well because they're sacrificing to serve. Well, she was so rude even when we tried to pay. So honestly she was undeserving of any kind of tip! Prior to coming I told the team 'you came to Florida to eat Jaoanese food?!?' Said that since we have really great Japanese food in Hawaii. I usually don't give one star reviews but this place earned it! Overpriced, bland, poor quality and missing condiments. We ordered for 7 people and asked for the dishes to be separate and labeled. Neither happened. Sushi came without Wasabi and Ginger and the amount of soy sauce (which was desperately needed!) was inadequate. One of the expectations of Asian Food is flavor. Kumo falls way short on this one. Save your money and go to Publix next door. Their Sushi is better and cheaper and yes, I am serious! Or go to Bamboo Wok next door as well. We pulled up to a small restaurant and let me tell you, don't judge the outside sis/bro! Just get in there! There were to go menus outside so that was nice especially in a tourist area. What I really love about this restaurant is that it always feels like it belongs to just me and my party when we come. Our orders are always made very quickly which I love. Stopped in after 8 PM 9/28/16 the restaurant was empty except for the staff, we asked if they were closing and they replied no and welcomed us in and never acted annoyed and didn't hurry us. The food came out reasonably fast, the portions were huge and freshly prepared. The restaurant is rather simple on the exterior and interior but it appeared to be very clean and tidy. The service was good, being we had the restaurant to ourselves I guess one would expect that, it wasn't overly attentive which was nice as well. The spicy tuna roll was fresh although the presentation left a little to be desired and the rice was a little on the lighter side. The soup was very good full of flavor and the salad was perfect, crisp and chilled with a very light mild dressing. The chicken teriyaki was just okay, it would have been much more enjoyable if the chicken were cut in to larger pieces it seemed a little on the dry side. The shrimp and beef fried rice was delicious but the small cubes of steak were equally as dry as the chicken, the shrimp were plump and seemed very fresh. Although we weren't rush I think the experience would have been much better an hour earlier. I will definitely try them again if I'm ever in the area and the opportunity presents itself. read more

I am not sure how this place have such high ratings. The sushi rice was hard and dry, fish tasted not fresh at all. Spending $108 for 4 people at lunch time was a bit pricey as well. We were not greeted upon entering and not given a "Thank you bye" when leaving the restaurant. We were the only party eating in the restaurant at the time as well. They can definitely work on their customer service as they seemed like they did not want our business at all first walking in. read more

After reading the yelp reviews on this place I decided to give it a try as it was very close to the house we rented on our vacation to Disney. I want to say that the place was fabulous but it was just all right. The ambience was ok but very average. I asked the sushi chef what was good that night and indicated the tuna, salmon, and yellowtail were all very good. So I ordered teo sushi nigiri of each as well as cucumber roll. The sushi came out and it looked appealing and the rice appeared to be of good quality. However upon eating the tuna I realized that this was your run of the mill tuna but had a slightly fishy flavor to it which was a definite detractor. The real problem was that the rice to fish ratio wasn't balanced and the rice was just oh so slightly sticky which made the sushi taste just average. The salmon and yellowtail were better but were average. I had a small bottle of sake which was very decent for the 7.95 that I paid for it. I finished it off with a huge appetizer portion of vegetable tempura which came out hot and fresh. Unfortunately the tempura had too much breading on it and it was slightly overcooked. I am giving this a three stars because the sushi staff was very nice and the staff was very attentive. Also I'm keeping in mind that I was after all in Orlando so my expectations should be lower than New York. However I doubt I would return to this restaurant. read more
