Came here on a Saturday night with two friends and we were seated right away. Our waters were constantly refilled and our food came out fast. We ordered the following dishes: - Pan-Fried Peking Duck Buns - Scallion Pancake w/Sliced Beef - Pan-Fried Shanghai Pork Buns - Pork Soup Dumplings - Stir-Fried Noodles w/Seafood Of everything we ordered, the only dish I wasn't a fan of was the stir-fried noodle dish with seafood. It was a tomato-based sauce with linguine like noodles and very sauce heavy. Everything else was cooked perfectly and there was a generous portion of protein in each dish. First time ever sampling from this restaurant. Ordered on line and picked up the food. That process worked well without issues. We ordered steam dumplings, and cucumber appetizers. The cucumbers for the cost were disappointing and not good value for me. Cukes in spicy sesame oil with slices of hot pepper. For entrees we ordered Kung Pao Chicken and a spicy tofu dish. Kung Pao was very tasty and good. The tofu sauce was good and nicely spiced but the tofu did not seem to be cooked. The picture of the dish looked like the tofu was fried but what I got was just very soft. Again good, but it could have been much better The real issue was the lack of rice included. When we called to ask after making this discovery at home we were told that they do not include rice automatically. You have to ask for it and then you get it at no cost. Sorry, too much for me to remember. They said that NY style Chinese restaurants do not include rice but I have eaten at several restaurants in NYC Chinatown and I don't recall not getting rice. I have ordered takeout from Kung Fu Kitchen on several occasions and the food has always been delicious. This evening was the first time I ate in the restaurant itself, and the food was even better. I had fried pork dumplings, which were cooked to perfection. The pork filling was great- tender, juicy and it filled the entire dumpling. For a main dish, I had the shredded beef with chilis and fried noodles. I like spice, and this dish had just the right amount of heat to give the dish a kick, without overwhelming my taste buds. The fried noodles were cooked perfectly - just firm enough to provide a bit of a bite or chew, but not at all mushy. Overall, a great meal. I loved my recent experience dining at Kung Fu Kitchen! I came here with fellow CMs Kimi S and MIke B so of course we ordered basically the entire menu, so I feel like I can give a confident big thumbs up to coming out here -- it surpassed my expectations and I know I'll be back before long! The only unfortunate thing was that they were out of two entire sections of their menu -- the noodle soups and the dry noodles. I look forward to being able to go back and try the full gamut in the future! Some standouts included the caramelized pork belly in clay pot, the pan fried pork baos (so juicy they were almost like soup dumplings, but baos!), and the actual soup dumplings. The soup dumplings weren't the best I've ever had but they were very tasty, and considering how few places in Northern VA serve them, it more than satisfied the craving. I also LOVED the scallion pancake with beef wrap -- could definitely see myself taking down a bad boy like that again. Some misses were this spicy hashed potato thing that I did not really enjoy and a steamed bun with a veggie mix inside that I felt lacked flavor. I have crowned this place the Bobs Shanghai of Nova. I will be coming here for quality XLBs and traditional Chinese food from now on. My friends and I ordered the pork XLBs, duck roll, scallion pancake, spicy pig ears and pork belly in clay pot. Food was delicious and the XLBs are perfect. The spice level here can be great for avid spice lovers. The duck roll was great because of the textures and well seasoned duck. The only reason why I'm giving this place a star off is because the prices are a bit high for what you get and the area. read more

Let's get one thing straight here - Kung Fu Kitchen is NOT a Michelin star-rated restaurant - their NY restaurant is a Bib Gourmand. A recently-opened Chinese restaurant in the Alexandria Commons plaza, this place offers various dim sum items (such as scallion pancakes, pan-fried Peking duck buns, steamed bun with mushrooms and bok coy, etc.), xiao long baos (pork, crab meat & pork, and shrimp/Chinese okra/pork), dry noodles, noodle soups, stir-fried noodles, steamed/fried dumplings, and cold dishes (such as cubed cucumber salad, steamed chicken with chili sauce, and braised beef in their house special gravy sauce). The hubs and I came here, excited to try their 'popular' xiao long baos. We ordered: a scallion pancake (probably one of the best scallion pancakes I've had, as it was thin, super crispy, and chock full of scallions; great dipping it in the soy sauce/chili oil mixture); an order of the pork xiao long baos (the dumplings had a thinner skin and it was definitely filled with a generous amount of broth; however, the pork and the broth could have been more flavorful); a beef stir-fried noodle dish, dao xiao-style (hand-cut noodles; the beef slices were large and tender, and the noodles were pretty okay; however, we just were not fans of the sauce, and the tomatoes definitely ruined the dish; rather than it being stir-fried or wok-fried, it was clumpy, super wet, and just not edible); and, a cubed cucumber salad (these were fresh and of a generous portion; I just wished it was more pickled and there were more spice and/or garlic slices to it). I came to Kung Fu Kitchen for New Year's Day lunch with my family. My sister and brother and law had eaten here a week earlier and said it was good. The restaurant is bright, clean, and cozy. We were greeted and seated immediately; we had reservations which helped. The menu is a decent size and has many items to choose from. We ordered a bunch of items to share ( I like it better this way in a restaurant like this). Here is what we ordered: pork soup dumplings (xio long bao), crab and pork soup dumplings, hand pulled noodles two ways (one was dry with a minced meat, one had roasted duck), duck buns, a spicy chicken dish, and cucumbers. The food comes out as it's made. Pro tip- if you like soup dumplings put the order in first, it takes a bit to come out. The soup dumplings here were really good! The dumplings, meat, and broth were flavorful. I appreciated that there was quite a bit of broth in the dumplings. It's a personal pet peeve of mine when a soup dumpling has little or no broth. Everything we ordered was delicious. The duck buns were soft and the duck was tender and well made. The hand pulled noodles were equally good; tender and flavorful. Kungfu Kitchen is located in the Baja Fresh strip mall. Parking is tight because there's a lot of shopping going on. we arrived for an early lunch. There were plenty of tables and a few large seated parties. The friendly staff seated us and offered some options. We asked many questions since this was our first time dining here. After ordering several different items from the various sections of the menu we decided to give soup dumplings a try. Since we were sitting in a two-person table it was nice that food came out 1 to 2 dishes at a time. The most memorable part of the meal was when we began to eat our soup dumplings. The super friendly server came over and showed us how to properly eat the dumplings without losing the liquid. I immediately felt more comfortable. The food was really delicious. The flavors were so different from the local Chinese eateries that we have and Burke. Our drink classes were always felt. We ordered a couple more items as we devoured put other dishes. When my friends and I go up to NY or Philly, there are two things we always eat because it's hard to find the quality and taste in the DMV. Soup Dumplings. There aren't too many places that offer good soup dumpling in the area. But this place restaurant officially seals it. The dumplings here are delicious; they especially know to do the soup dumplings right! The give you the shrimp, pork, and crab/pork option to choose from. I personally enjoyed the crab/pork soup dumpling! I also recommend the scallion pancake with beef & the original shrimp dumpling. The interior is very nicely done! Plz read my experience before you go here. I never posted bad reviews on Yelp but sorry I must say something bad here. I went to this restaurant randomly on my way home. The dining environment was good and they have great Chinese traditional style decorations -- that was probably the only reason I tried to convince myself to pay for that much. Believe or not, that was the worst experience I've ever had in my life!! I saw other reviews complaining about the food portion here, but you know what? The one I got was even less. The food didn't even taste that fresh and the portion was so tiny. After we finished all our foods we were still hungry. And the water glass was dirty , the chopsticks smelled weird too. Ugh. Delicious food, terrific decor but service could be better. This restaurant is a welcomed addition to Alexandria and very conveniently located in Alexandria Commons on Duke Street. The menu has dim sum items as well as soups and noodle dishes. We ordered the scallion pancakes, soup dumplings, steamed shrimp dumplings and buns with mushrooms and bok choy. All the food was delicious except for the scallion pancakes which were rather bland. I saw other customers ordering items that looked mouthwatering and I do plan to return to try other dishes. The service could be more hospitable and inviting. We did not have a wait for our food, having arrived about 1pm on Sunday. Unfortunately, after using the bathroom, I realized there was no soap in the automatic dispenser. I told the host about this and he just shrugged, saying yeah there's no soap in the dispenser. I opted to get the crab n pork ones n they were juicy lil dumplins! The soup base was also very good and although I honestly didn't get much of the crab taste I was just happy the wrapper was thin and the filling was flavourful. The hand pulled noods were also good and definitely better than regular take out lomein (the price reflects that lemme tell ya). The duck buns were yummers, but I gotta say I kiiinnda expected a lil more duck in there...I mean for about $5 a bun I don't think thats unreasonable to expect mo meat right? Idunno maybe I'm giving too much of a duck hehe. Lastly the pan fried dumplings came and by then I already felt like that dumpling from the movie Bao, but a lil more stuffed, yet the show must go on! Worst customer service. No one greets you when you walk in. I had to walk to the back to get someone's attention to seat us. Then we sit down, and it takes forever to a staff member to give us a menu and take our "simple" order. On top of waiting close to 50 minutes to get any of our food. I asked for steamed dumplings, they come back with fried dumplings! They put more effort into their take out orders, than taking care of the customer whose in the chair!!!!! It's overpriced, mediocre food and HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! You are better driving into DC for better service, food and prices! This place was amazing and the only place in Arlington I've found so far with such quality soup dumplings! My friend and I tried the Pork Soup Dumplings, Pan-Fried Peking Duck Bun and the Shrimp & Pork Pan-Fried Dumplings. The dumplings were honestly amazing. The soup dumpling was done perfectly - the skin was not too thick and the soup was delicious. The pan-fried dumplings were crispy on the outside, but had a nice chewy skin. The meat was also flavorful and very yummy. The peking duck bun was good, but definitely was not on the same level as the other dumplings. The employee was also super friendly. He let us sit at the one table outside and gave us water even though we had gotten the food to-go. I can't wait to come back for some soup dumplings and pan fried dumplings. I am so glad Kungfu Kitchen opened close to me. We used to make the drive to Rockville a couple times a month for Chinese food but now we don't have to go so far. Since they've opened a couple of months ago I've probably eaten here at least 10 times already. I take all of my out of town guests to try their soup dumplings and stir fried hand pulled noodles and it never disappoints. Even my mother in law approves! There's usually a wait during peak hours, even on the weekdays but trust me, it is worth the wait. The service and order-to-table time has definitely improved over the months as I've noticed they've increased staffing but there's still room for improvement here. One time the restaurant was able to accommodate our party of 20 during off peak hours on a Sunday. They did require a minimum per person and let us know that in advance but it was easy to meet given their food is so delicious you just want to try everything! I'm looking forward to seeing their full menu after their grand opening. I was told their current menu is only half of the items they'll offer! read more

Was browsing Yelp for a new lunch spot and found this on my route home. Saw they had some staples I was craving and had to check it out. I arrived for lunch at around noon on a Friday and it had been mostly empty, there was a party of six or so in the back of the restaurant and I was a solo diner. I was greeted and seated promptly upon entry. For a single eater, I definitely over ordered, but I have to try a little bit of everything when I go somewhere new. I ordered the pork Xiao Long Bao, the Sticky Rice Shao Mai, Beef Stir Fried Hand pulled noodles, and the Braised Pork Belly in Clay Pot. Based on the photos I saw posted from previous yelpers posts, I wasn't expecting much from the soup dumplings. This was one of those times where a picture doesn't do it justice and was just so surprised. I don't think I can really compare them to Din Tai Fung because these soup dumplings are in a category of their own. The soup and filling of the dumpling was juicy and flavorful. Eating the dumpling wrapper was like biting into pillow-like mochi. Just thinking about the mouthfeel as I write this is making me salivate. I ordered three more orders to-go to share my discovery of a new delicious XLB restaurant with my lady and they were still so tasty four hours later. (PROTIP: If you end up taking some of these home, no more than 30 seconds to reheat in a 1000W Microwave. Perfect temp~! ) Next was the Sticky Rice Shao Mai, a chunky dumpling filled with glutinous rice. Biting into the dumpling, I found within the rice: minced shiitake mushroom, green scallions and meat(Not sure if it was beef or pork) it was very filling for a couple dumplings. As I was munching away on these pockets of rice I was brought back in time when I was child eating Dim Sum with my family, and at the behest of my mother, I had my first bite of Lo Mai Gai(Sticky rice with chicken, wrapped in lotus leaf) That was a foodie life changing moment. Thanks mom! I would definitely get this again just because of the memories and emotions it elicited. Once I finished those little pockets of happiness I was brought the Beef Stir Fried noodles. I dug in and tried the meat first and was surprised at how tender the it was. Definitely was velveted for awhile. The meat by itself was pretty peppery for my tastes, but when eaten with the noodles and vegetables, I found that it balanced the flavors out. It was then I was hit with another wave of nostalgia. As I was trying to figure out what the noodles reminded me of, my Braised Pork Belly in Clay Pot arrived, boiling and piping hot. (S/N: Prior to placing my order the waitress let me know that this dish is very rich and fatty, I guess maybe because previous customers did not enjoy the dish for what it was. I was okay with this because Pork Belly is life.) After cooling a piece I had picked, I popped that sucker in and I felt like I took a dive into the most luxurious Cha Shu Bao. It was definitely rich, and also sweet. I was hoping for more of a savory soy sauce flavor like grandma used to make. But then again, this isn't granny's kitchen. I had a couple more bites of the succulent pork belly and had to call it quits, otherwise I'd be suffering during my drive home due to overeating. So to end. Great food and great service. I want to say I got lucky when I arrived when I did. I can only imagine how long the wait will be once they really build momentum, but this is a place I would wait for. Legit xiao long bao without going to Maryland! Ignore the bad reviews for takeout - obviously XLB should never be eaten for takeout ... these are big incredibly juicy xlb with great flavor. Both pork and pork and crab were delicious. Also the scallion beef rolls were delicious as well! Peking duck buns were pretty good but not amazing. I was excited to try the clay pot pork belly but sad to report not very flavorful and would recommend passing on this. Just stick to the XLB and you won't be disappointed! read more

Ambiance is fine. Not too noisy. I used to come often but will no longer come anymore. I'm honestly disappointed as it used to be a to go place for comfort food and I wanted the restaurant to do well. Recently, their quality of food has dropped drastically. They now provide significantly smaller portions at all levels (meat, veggies, and even the bowls of rice). You can even hear other patrons ask about the price and portion size. We tried the pork XLB and the crab & pork XLB. The one with crab definitely was my favorite - it seemed to have more flavor. My daughter fell in love with soup dumplings a Din Tai Fung in Las Vegas and after moving across the country we were looking for a similar experience. On a lark I ordered the Pork soup dumplings, pork and crab soup dumplings, the Peking duck bun and pork fried rice. We got our food in about 25 minutes once we placed the order minus pork xlb. We asked for our dumplings and server said he will check up on it and never came back to let us know what happened to the order. After following up with the server twice, we finally got our xlb from a server who had mouth full of food- 40 mins after we placed our order without apologizing that they missed it or any explanation. Staffs were eating in the dining hall and open kitchen where you can see before we even got our xlb. Not to mention, the bathroom was disgusting. The food is delicious here, however the wait took a while (their numbering system seemed a little disorganized) and it took a while for us to order our food and get our food. However I didn't take down a star because they just opened and also I heard they were down one staff. Hoping they get more help soon, so if you're looking for a job please apply! Worst place to eat the waiter/manager is so rude he throw us the straws and when I asked for a fork he yielded at me when I told him that he was so rude so me and my wife decided not to eat there and he treated us that he will call the police if we don't pay for the food we even touched . After checking the menu, I found out that this is the $8.95 appetizer tofu salad. Also FYI, there is no rice offered with entree or whatsoever.
