    COCKROACH. ENOUGH SAID?

Never happened to me before, I almost ate a dead cockroach found in my fried rice. Ordered from this restaurant (Uber Eats) many times before. Their food has been really good. No response from the business or Uber. WARNING: check your food out first before consuming.

We ordered delivery and was quoted 35-45 minutes, which is reasonable for dinner. We waited 1 hour and 15 minutes for our food. The food wasn't hot, it was more warm then anything. We ordered General Tso Tofu and Sesame Tofu, both with fried rice, along with egg drop soup and hot and sour soup, and vegetable Spring Rolls. The tofu both were delicious, however the fried rice was not. First it lacked flavor and it wasn't mixed well bc we could see chunks of white rice. Not worth the $1 extra. Soup and spring roll were good. Again, bc we waited so long for delivery they weren't hot. Portion size was very reasonable for the price. We had plenty of tofu for leftover. I don't think I'll be ordering delivery again from here. I'm going to try other places in the area.

The Sweet BBQ pork that tastes like wet beef jerky.

How I ended up in this dumpster of a cafe.... Had a 2 hour wait to get my state inspection done ony car next door. Other then that I would never have given this place a second look since it looks like it needs to be condemned or out of business. As soon as I opened the door I get a punched in the face with a huge cloud of smoke from burned food, (note to self if the restaurant looks like it's on fire when you open the door don't eat there). But I thought maybe it could be a hidden gem since it has 4 stars on yelp, which they deserve none of. I ordered the Sweet BBQ Pork, general Tso's chicken and Combination Fried Rice. I wish I just would have just gotten a bag of chips and a soda from the gas station while I waited for my car to finish. As I waited for my food to be prepared I was looking around the restaurant. As I grabbed my can of soda out of the fridge I noticed how filthy the place was. On top of both fridges there had to be at least a quarter inch of dust and grim, looked like it wasn't cleaned in years. I wish I would have noticed this before I ordered my food because I would have turned around and WOK'd my self back out the front door. The Sweet BBQ pork was beyond terrible. It tasted like it was dehydrated to be stored and then rehydrated and over cooked leaving it tasting like wet beef jerky, absolutely zero flavor or pork. The general Tso's chicken was ehhhhhhhhhh on its very best day, I think Walmarts frozen tso chicken is better. The best part about it was the white rice that was served with it had real cold chunks of rice in it like it was pulled straight out the fridge. Then the fried rice, I opened it saw the chicken and pieces of pork and shrimp.... Didn't even want to try it. Then there's the good old fortune cookies...... Tasted like they were made back in The Ming Dynasty. Felt like I was chewing on rocks. If you're trying to get your fix of Asian food I'd advise you to WOK right past this place. And as I'm writing this review my stomach just bubbled. You have been warned!!!!

If you've driven to Alexandria, you've probably driven by this quaint little hut right where the GW parkway becomes Washington Street. What's the bar for Chinese takeout? Not high, in my book, and that's part of the attraction. Just give me some tofu cooked in something tasty for cheap. By that standard, I was quite pleased. I enjoyed my two basic tofu dishes over the course of several days, and they were better renditions than average (and I would know; I eat a lot of Chinese takeout), and they did not cost much. They had plenty of decent menu options (plenty for the veg crowd; fake meat entrees as well as tofu and veggies), and the food was ready in fifteen minutes. I rejected the proffered free spring rolls (on account of shrimp), but they threw in a couple of canned sodas for free, which is good by me. It was good enough that I wish I were in DC, but since they are not, I might even visit them again whenever I find my way out to Virginia.

I hadn't been here in quite a long time. The place has been there for years and I had stopped going here because I remember the food not being very good, however not opinion has changed. It's still the hole in the wall that it's always been but the food tastes nice and fresh. Usually when it comes to Chinese I tend to order Lo Mein because it's hard to mess that up but some places manage even that. There's really not much to say about this place. It's your standard Chinese affair with the usual Chinese American menu. It's still a pretty good place to go to though. It's small, not a lot of seating but it's quiet and fairly comfortable. It is slightly more pricy than some other area Chinese restaurants but not by that much, really. You can't really go wrong here. They do have their own parking, which is obviously hard to come by here in Old Town and they do have some outdoor seating. Something you rarely find in a Chinese restaurant in this general area. Again, can't go wrong here.

Nice quick please to pick up tasty Chinese food. General tsao chicken is flavorable with real chicken chunks. Not too spicy. But you can ask for more peppers. Nice place to sit and eat for lunch. Staff was friendly and definitely working hard!

My vermicelli bowl was the standout--perfectly seasoned grilled pork with just the right amount of spice, fresh vegetables and herbs, crispy spring rolls, and the perfect balance of noodles and toppings. However, the young male staff is rather rude and indifferent. First, off there is a Wi-Fi available "Caphe Guest" (see photo). I asked one staffer what the password was, because Caphe is in one of those sections of Old Town where wireless access, like Verizon, is notoriously poor. The guy gave me some garbled answer and walked away. Alrighty, so I asked another staffer and he said he didn't know what the password was and walked away. That leads up to my order of chicken pho. I asked for no cilantro and that same waiter repeated my request for no cilantro. But when the pho was brought to my table, the green in the pho looked suspiciously like cilantro. I asked the waiter about it. He looked at the pho and said it was not cilantro. I took a sip and quickly determined there was cilantro in the pho. When I tried to get my server's attention, as he was standing in back of the counter, he saw me and haughtily turned away. So, I took the pho up to counter and asked that my order be remade. To Caphe's credit, Caphe did correctly remake my order.. But the pho broth was brown and had an odd canned flavor. It just wasn't very good.

Good appetizer to share between the three of us. BUTTER CHICKEN - 19 Creamy and rich, tasted a bit sweeter than I was used to, almost like a chicken tikka masala. Pretty standard, but got the job done. Plenty of chicken in our curry. SAAG PANEER - 19 Vibrant green with the perfect loose, creamy texture that wasn't too chunky. Good amount of paneer in our portion. The spinach actually tasted like spinach, which I find rare at other restaurants that also serve saag/palak paneer. Definitely one of the better ones I've had! GARLIC NAAN - 4 Pretty typical, but good nonetheless. It was a bit greasy than I would have liked, but went well with the curries when we wanted to switch between bites of the basmati rice. Delicate Hot Chocolate…read more I have long been an admirer of fine hot chocolate. Traditionally, I would visit Starbucks or a contemporary coffeehouse, only to receive what often felt like mocha syrup blended with steamed milk--pleasant, perhaps, but rarely memorable. This morning marked my first visit to Tatte Bakery & Café in Old Town Alexandria where the hot chocolate proved to be an unexpected delight. The associate explained that it was prepared with semisweet chocolate and warm milk. Intrigued, I ordered a small and chose to enjoy it outdoors. The price was refreshingly reasonable, while the bakery's bright interior and refined ambiance created an inviting first impression. My drink arrived within approximately five minutes, presented elegantly in a cup and saucer. The temperature was perfectly warm--comforting without being excessively hot--and the overall presentation was quietly sophisticated but has room for improvement. Then came the taste.... The texture was exceptionally silky and smooth, with no grainy residue, excessive sweetness, or bitter aftertaste. It was rich without being heavy and indulgent without becoming overwhelming. Even better, it left behind no awkward crown of foam. I have enjoyed hot chocolate in Sicily, where the experience was quite literally a cup of melted chocolate--decadent, dense, and almost dessert-like. Tatte's interpretation was more delicate and restrained, yet equally satisfying in its own way. Tatte has now earned first place in my personal ranking. There is, however, still an opportunity to elevate the service experience. A cloth napkin and small spoon presented alongside the drink would add a more polished touch, while a subtle soupçon of finely shaved chocolate would enhance both the visual presentation and the final sip. Overall, I award Tatte's hot chocolate an A-. I look forward to seeing whether it can achieve an even higher distinction upon my next visit.

4 stars for the food 4 stars for the ambiance…read more3 stars for the service on the water refills, which was sporadic at best. Last night I brought a couple of friends over to the Sisters Thai in Alexandria ... because I had had good experiences in the past. We were seated at our table of four, and had to wait 20 mins to be served water from the start. That was unusual - and although the restaurant was busy it was not packed, so the delay was odd. We ordered the food which was great - high recommendations for the branzino, the crispy eggplant, the roti curry and the mango & sticky rice. The water service was challenging; at one point during the meal when a server came to do a refill, she spilled the water on the table near the food dishes - apologized - but didn't clean up! (It was not a few drops - it was a sizeable amount that warranted wiping up since our group had to reach over for the food dishes in the center). She took off after right after spilling it - and didn't come back! So I eventually caught the eye of another sever and asked for the water to be wiped down. The evening went on - the meal really noteworthy ... but water was clearly becoming more and more of an issue - and this was critical especially considering that the roti curry was spicy! After yet another 20 minutes of trying to catch the eye of anyone with a pitcher I had to get up and request water from the bar area. So although the evening was pleasant it was somewhat disruptive with this lack of coordination - which is really is a basic of any establishment. I would go back again for the food - although I'm disappointed that I brought friends along to try the restaurant and the service was not as expected. As I write this I want to add that if it was a one-off with a water delay I would understand - but it was consistently overlooked, without a spillage being wiped promptly that started to create a less than satisfactory experience. Thank you in advance to the Sisters Thai for more training for their staff on enhancing the customer experience.
