People say honest mechanics don't exist. I had a buddy who worked as a tech look at one of my cars and said it looked like a broken head gasket. Scheduled to get it swapped with Kurata. Hour after I drop off the car they call me and tell me it's actually the valve cover gasket which will be much cheaper and only take an hour of labor compared to a day. Now they could have not done that and charged me for the head gasket and I would have been none the wiser. But they didn't. And that doesn't happen too often with shops in Fresno. So they get my business and I hope they get yours. read more

I scheduled an appointment on a Monday to have the upper and lower ball joints replaced on my truck. I went here because they service the vehicles from my job and I was told they were reasonable. The earliest appointment they had was on a Thursday but the lady said she would call if I could bring in early or to let me know Thursday is a go as the replacement is urgent. I never received a call to come in early or confirm Thursday. I called Thursday morning and was told they couldn't do it today. The best they could do was the following Tuesday. I expressed the urgency when I scheduled the appointment and I didn't get a call back and the best they could do is not honor the appointment and attempt to schedule it 5 days later? If I could give 0 stars I would. Safe to say I will not take my vehicle here, I will tell all I know not to go here and will refrain from taking any Vehicle here. read more

I took my car a few times here for standard oil changes. While more expensive, I assumed since they service higher end cars they would treat my not so high end car very nice...but instead I got shafted when I actually had an issue. They said they fixed my cooling issue by replacing the whole system, costing me $800. Next weekend I went to SF and I broke down on the Bay Bridge with the exact same issue. Took it to the dealer who found I just had an, obvious to them, coolant leak. So instead of my little car getting treated extra special, it was mistreated and misdiagnosed. Also, they listen to conservative radio and love to talk down about the "opposition" democrats. I tried to just smile every time and leave quickly but it was creepy. read more

I did post a review which I felt was very factual. The review has been deleted for some reason. I am not going to mention any names this time. The owner is very HONEST, only does work that needs to be done, no matter how long your check---list is, he only does what is required. This business had been recommended to me. I will never forget about how when I was driving away it just seemed like my car was running so very smoothly. The check engine light was no longer on. It had passed all smog requirements. I have heard a lot of good reviews of them, but I had a bad experience and was turned away without the mechanic who is a tall, bald, caucasian, about 50s or 60s age, who did not troubleshoot or listen to what I was saying. My a/c blowed hot air, I told him the pressure was fine, I even put some frion in it, that the pipe under the hood was cold going into the radio area. Since I put frion that has a sealant, he told me he wouldnt touch it. I told him I think the problem was at the radio because of my troubleshooting, he said "its the ac not the radio, im not risking my ac machine of 6,000$ because you put frion with sealant in it." I took my car to Marlin & Tony Automotive, they listened to me, they found the issue was in the radio control unit, and fixed my problem. read more

Wow! This place really bent over backwards for me, and I cannot thank them enough. My car needed a new battery, and I mean, I coasted into their shop knowing it was never going to start again. I did not have an appointment. I spoke directly with the owner, who was EXTREMELY nice. I told him I desperately needed this done same day, and I knew it might take a really long time and that would be fine, as they were really doing me a solid by even accepting me. And then I set up camp to do some work online in their waiting area for what I assumed would be hours. I will also note, the owner offered to drive me somewhere else if I didn't want to stick around. But I work from home, so I really didn't have anywhere I needed to be. In less than an hour they were giving me my keys back with a new battery. I had asked that they give me an oil change if they could fit it in, which they did. They even vacuumed my floor mats! Because I had been waiting in the shop they apparently bumped me up in line, and I am eternally grateful for it!!! The owner personally explained my bill, which came in under what I expected to pay, and he told me how I could get new tires shipped to them and they'd put them on (another thing I REALLY need done ASAP). He went down the line of other things my car could use, and gave me very reasonable estimates for what it would cost through them. I felt completely taken care of. Usually, I go to an auto shop and I feel talked down to, I feel like I'm going to be ripped off, etc. NOT HERE! NOT FOR A SECOND! This is probably why I let my car go to absolute hell all the time, before finally willing myself to go into an auto repair shop, for real (my poor car has been through a lot with me as its owner). I am so happy that I lucked into this place. I will not be going anywhere else for my auto needs for as long as I live in the area. I know I'm gushing over this place, but seriously, they deserve it all and more. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars! read more

We've taken a few cars here now, and Dave always provides excellent, timely service. Super knowledgeable about various repairs and parts too, just ask if you've got questions. Call to see how the wait is; if the garage is too busy to handle your car immediately, they'll tell you, instead of just trying to make you bring your car in so you don't take it somewhere else. I have found my new mechanic! This shop was recommended to me by a family friend who is a retired mechanic, and they did not disappoint. Before coming here, I took my car to another shop that quoted me around $4,000 to fix my car. Kurata's ended up fixing my car for about $600 and it runs great now! I provided the invoice from the previous shop I went to so Kurata's checked those areas of my car and they said I didn't need a lot of the work that I was told I needed. Kurata's recommended that I get new tires, which they sell, but the gentleman told me that it would take several days before the tires would be delivered because of the bad weather. The level of honesty blew me away. They're more concerned about their customers than they are about making money. Overall, great experience, more than reasonable prices, honest mechanics, and great quality work. Thank you, Kurata's. read more

I've been bringing my 10 year old BMW with 190,000 miles here for the past 2 years and I can say, the service I've received is outstanding in comparsion to other garages. My car is always fixed on time for a reasonable price and there is never any upselling of additional service. David the owner, actaully recommned not fixing a couple of things and getting more mileage out of them before they be changed out years later. How many mechanics do that? He also extensively explains every repair so you understand more about your car. Additionally, he knows high performance German cars and serivces many cars belonging to local Porsche club owners. I've also seen a Ferrari in here too. His shop features a highly specialzed machine which will never scratch your wheels when putting on new tires which is highly prized by many enthusiast who spend thousands on rims and have high performance tires. This isn't to say that he won't service more commom inexpensive cars. I also take my wife's Mazada here too. So if you are looking for a highly knowledgable trustworthy mechanic who cares about his business and developing a relationship with his clients, this is the place to go. read more

After speaking w/ someone on the phone, they told me I could bring my car in to replace the water pump. I live out of town, and had to have the work done that day so I could go home. After looking at my car, the mechanic I was speaking to refused to do the work with the parts I purchased at Auto-zone and insisted that I buy from them. I told them I needed a few minutes to think about it and made one short phone call. After less than 5 min, I told the same mechanic, "Ok, let's do the work." I guess I took to long to make my decision, because he than said that the work couldn't be done that day. "People think that this is like a doctor's office, where you can be diagnosed and taken care of all at once. It doesn't work that way." All in all, my experience was not good. read more

Our highest praises to Kurata Automaotive Services. Particular praise to Les. My wife hit an unseen object on a Sunday morning out on Highway 5 very far from any services. The left rear control arm snapped off and made the car inoperable. The car was towed to Fresno but since everything was closed we needed to wait until Monday to arrange repairs. The car is a Lexus so our first thought was to call the Lexus dealer. We did call and continued to call but each time the call went to the service manger's voice mail. We found the lack of service there very distressing. Since we are not from the Fresno area we began looking for a another repair shop. Luckily, we found Les at the Kuarta location. Absolutely the most prompt and courteous service we could have hoped for. W left the car at Kurata's late Monday afternoon. By 11:00 am on Tuesday the car was repaired and ready to go. Thinking the repair would take several days, we had returned home to Santa Rosa which is 235 miles away. I asked Les if they were open on Saturday. He said no but he gave me his cell phone. He said to call when we got near the shop and he would be right down. That is exactly what happened. For anyone who needs courteous, dependable and honest car work Kurata is the place for you in the Fresno area. read more

Dave (the owner) is awesome. He's been working on all of the cars in my family for over 15 years. The service is always superb, and he is a very approachable person. Case in point: I just took my car in because the air conditioner had pooped out during a long trip. I explained the "symptoms" and left the car for him to check out. He ran the a/c to see if he could duplicate the lack of air flow. When there was nothing wrong, he didn't try to sell me on some unnecessary preventative measure or a costly diagnostic process. One of the scariest things about traveling out of your hometown is having car problems and not knowing an honest and competent mechanic. Well, that's exactly what happened to me when I arrived in Fresno for business from L.A. and began experiencing issues with my Mini Cooper. Fortunately, a really cool vendor we hired for our project recommended Dave and I couldn't have had a better experience. Dave was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and honest. I couldn't believe it when he arranged to have his niece drive me back to the hotel and then pick me up when my car was ready. This level of service would not happen in L.A or most places in the country. Dave also took the time to explain precisely what the issues were with my car and why they needed repair.
